Large Rant
Wow Twistim!! Fantastic post, I just hope that WB is looking at the same things here.
I second that. Or erm... Quoted the quote for accurate assessment.
That's how that's supposed to go, right? It's been awhile since I was actively posting things. :woot:

OMG...so long ago. That was...crazy, to say the least. It feels weird to be entering somewhat similar territory, though perhaps not as entertaining. All we keep getting are conflicting statements from various "in the know" parties. Gah. Something juicy has gotta come out soon about this movie. They can't cast forever if they actually have any hope of actually getting to the production stage.

I think Warner Bros. may be going as crazy as we are because they are backed up against a wall in a sense. We don't know if Tom was being considered or was aproached for the role in the initial stages or as someone mentioned he might have been and then things fell through. But thanks to the leaks, even if they wanted to go with another guy or go back to Brandon, they can't because of the huge publicity and support that Welling's name has generated.
Now they can try to milk the publicity as much as they want before crushing everybody's dreams like the last time but they (at least we all hope they did) have learned the error of their ways and want to try and please the fans and that means getting Welling by any means necessary.
And if wasn't ever considered, there's enough evidence from all these polls and websites and comments.
Remember before Welling's name was thrown in the mix, there was barely any discussion on the JLA movie, it was even though of as rumor. After Welling was mentioned it was free publicity of the likes Warner could never buy. And in 2004 the same thing had already happaned and they seazed that publicity but failed to capitalize it. They never thought their movie and their choice would be rejected by a large number of the public.
That (the publicity and public that Welling brings) deserves attention and they would be idiots if they hadn't noticed it by now. I believe they will try to get Tom. If now they will have to prepare for a backlash, possibly bigger than the last time and face the possibility of a big rejection of this movie that up until Welling was thought of as a huge rushed up joke.
Welling's name brings credibility to the project and someone that ppl really want to see as a super-hero in the theaters. He may not be a hude draw in other movies but the name Welling and Superman are guaranteed money in the bank. I would bet everything I own in it.

Wait wait wait. You would -bet- everything you have that someone who's already characterized as Superman, would bring in money if they actually cast him as Superman? Someone tie this man down. He can't be thinking rationally.

Of course, but Welling only spent three weeks shooting his scenes.
Excerpt from Variety, 1/25/06:"I did 'The Fog' in a fog," Welling laughs. "They shot for a month before I got there and it was shot at night and really fast."
http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117936815There's another article/interview out there where it is stated specifically. When I find it, I'll post it. But I do remember being surprised by that because he was the star of the film. He did his CBTD2 scenes in ten days. He might not have been the full on star of that pic, but it was a much bigger production than The Fog.
Anyhoo... the point is, they can make it work if they want to. That goes for Welling OR Routh.
Thanks Pat for posting this article:word:
As for TW being able to shoot THE FOG and juggle SV, as we know both were shot in Vancouver so even though it was probably pretty tiring with proper scheduling The FOG got done. Where they filmed THE FOG was like a 10 minute speed boat ride from where SV does "on location" shoots as well so that helped ALOT I bet. What a sceduling nightmare if TW does get JLA if its shooting in OZ. 16 hours from Vancouver!
I remember last year at the beginning of season 6 that Alison Mack did an interview with Chuck at KRYPTONFAN and she mentioned SR and Tom.
If I remember right she said she was glad that Tom didn't do the movie because SV would have been over but he would have made a great Superman:) She also said she knew BR.

"Although there was chatter early on about his taking on the bigscreen role of Superman (which ultimately went to newcomer Brandon Routh), there were too many conflicts, scheduling and otherwise for Welling to be cast, says Gough.....
"I think if he had ever been offered the movie, it would have killed the series," admits Gough. "I don't think Warner Bros. would have done that on a corporate level.....
Welling, 28, is coy when discussing the negotiations that took place. If he's disappointed at not being the new Superman, he won't say.
"It's such an odd thing to talk about. There were so many issues that would have had to have been dealt with -- scheduling, the future of the show -- for it to have happened.""
http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117936815
Doesnt this confirm that WB did want TW for SR? And that negotiations did take place between them, NOT necessarly with BS?
That means that Welling WAS talking about SR at the TCAs. :)
It confirms that WB wants Welling for Superman, and has for YEARS.

Update from infamous_emijayne at Countingdown.com
http://www.countingdown.com/movies/343447/board?viewpost=3996605&folder=0
"Because I've started having my own doubts, I wanted to make sure I was right about what an NDA does so I contacted 5 different attorneys that specialize in the entertainment industry. I asked them hypothetically what someone would say if they were under an NDA and asked direct questions and they confirmed the person would have to decline comment or completely deny all knowledge of the subject depending on how the NDA was written. If you don't believe me, pick up a phone book and call any attorney in the business and do the same thing.
Now, this doesn't mean Gough isn't telling the truth and I will admit that, but it also means that my sources and Robert's at IESB may be right about Welling if an NDA is in fact in place. And as many have pointed out, all info stopped dead at the same time after some oddly coincidental things.
Anyway, I will be going on a much needed 2 week vacation starting Saturday so hopefully we will get some news before then. I know WB is still preparing a press release but only God knows how long they will drag it out. I am definitely as annoyed as everyone else and just want it to end. Even if that means Welling is out. I just want WB to step up and let us know what the hell is going on."

Just got thru catching up on 2+ days of posts and it seems we're still at square one! My computer crashed on Sat. and I have been in withdrawal mode waiting to get back online. (I just knew the big announcement would come and I'd miss it.) Anyway, I don't have any inside info and I'm admittedly biased but in my heart of hearts I just really think Tom Welling is going to be Superman in JLA. Noone else makes any sense to me given all that we know.
1. Tom embodies the part. He has the look, the talent, the experience and noone deserves it more.
2. Superman Returns was a disappointment. We wouldn't even be having this discussion if that was not a fact. Yeah, it made its money back but it did not break box office records and did not inspire a new generation of fans which was the plan. It did however split the already-existig fan base.
3. WB still wants a piece of the comic/movie world pie. And now they want vindication for the misstep they made.
4. Welling was/is the fan favorite overall to portray this beloved character. He was considered last time but in the end they wanted their cake (a successful TV show) and to eat it too (a successful movie franchise). Not wanting to sacrifice their #1 show they took a chance and tried to have both.
5. This time around the TV show has already passed the 100th episode mark and is gearing down to the final moment when Clark becomes Superman to the world. It is actually at a point to be used as the perfect lead in/promotion vehicle for the movie.
6. This movie is a great opportunity for Tom. If it is successful it opens all kinds of doors for him. He is already typecast as Superman. This doesn't mean he can't break out of that but in order to do it he has to be given the chance and offered roles to play. The real problem is he may be typecast as a tv actor if he doesn't get a big break soon. This movie moves him into a whole new category.
7. If WB wants Tom they can make it happen. The bottomline in Hollywood is always money. This movie is their big money maker for summer 2009. They already have a great script and a reputable director. Now they have to get the casting right and the pieces will all fall into place.
I'll be glad when this wait is over.
And if my sheer force of will could have anything to do with it we'd be celebrating right now! :super:

Maybe he flipped out because it is happening & he hates to be reminded of it :huh:Nah. He flipped out because he's been painting as the Devil's Spawn. People have been accusing HIM as being the impediment to any negotiations that may or may not be going on between Welling and Warners. Imagine for a moment what people will say IF some other actor is announced in the role? Everybody will assume it was Gough's fault, that it was HE who stopped the presses and kept Welling from being Superman in JL. The SV producers take a HELL of a lot of heat as it is; can you imagine the unadulterated vitriol that will spew forth onto Gough's head if it doesn't happen? True or not, Gough will take the blame.
Now reference his last sentence in his vehement denial:
So, there you have it from the horse's mouth--or ass--given some of the message board postings I've seen about myself!Make sense now? ;)
Hulk, so Feb 11th is the date, huh? That's a Monday. Anybody know when SV has their production hiatus? NOT the air break when they run a month of reruns, but the actual break in production.

Nah.

Why is that news, didn't we all know what an NDA consisted of? That doesn't explain why Gough flipped out. He could have just said, "No Comment" or "It's not happening."
I didn't have a clue what an NDA consisted of although I could have ventured a pretty decent guess.
As to why he flipped out, I would say he's either a "sorry loser" and a "hothead" or the whole thing was exaggerated. The fact that he does seem to have overresponded makes me feel even more confident that this thing is a go and the rumors of his interference were the holdup.

Well said Patty. Thanks, Show. It makes sense to me. Gough is just covering his ass. Welling could have *absolutely* nothing to do with JL, but that won't stop people from believing it. So if and when somebody else is cast, who gets thrown under the bus? Al Gough. If you were him, wouldn't YOU be denying seven different ways till Sunday that any of this was true? He's pissed. Wicked pissed. And in a way I guess... I don't blame him.
And like Hulk has said in the past, IF any of it IS true, IF Welling IS cast, people won't give two poops about Gough's denial after the fact. We'll all be drunk and celebrating. People will laugh at Gough, not set his car on fire - with him in it. So Gough is just covering his ass, just in case.

frankly I've grown a bit tired of the whole "is he? or isn't he?" thing. It was somewhat fun after the initial IESB stuff but its become tiresome either way. IESB has been pretty spot on in the past with most of their stuff but I'm starting to have doubts about the latest round of Tom negotiations that were allegedly going down last week, I think Sanchez may be guilty of playing to the crowd a bit too much. His message forum EXPLODED after the Welling news and I can see him wanting to keep people talking.
As for emijayne, who really knows? I've been lurking over there for a while and she does seem to have credibility with the longtime posters there for scooping previous things but I think she may be a bit overwhelmed by all of the attention she's gotten recently both positive and negative. I was recently sent a link to some previous remarks she had made a year or so ago that I found outright disgusting, so the shine has come off her a bit IMO.
Whomever it's going to be, let's just have it already. WB has been making announcements about 2009 movies like T4 this week so lets hope JLA isnt far behind. The thing that really scares me is if this follows the new Star Trek film and how their "Kirk" isnt even known a month before filming. Can you imagine how hairy this place is going to be if its January and we still don't know who Supes is going to be?
Whomever it finally is, good for them. If it's Tom than fantastic I'm there 10 times as long as its halfway decent. If its Routh, I wont be as excited, but even though I like to tease about the guy to our cousins over yonder I've long since gotten over that and dont really have the energy that some do to debate it much. Count me in for one viewing. If its a new guy, than may God have mercy on his poor soul because he immediately becomes the most nit-picked actor in Hollywood.

frankly I've grown a bit tired of the whole "is he? or isn't he?" thing.Same here. I just posted on IESB for the first time in a few days. I haven't really been paying attention over there because it's a complete clusterbleep of arguing fanboys. I don't need that; I've got that here. Don't need to go there for it too, y'know? LOL
...I think Sanchez may be guilty of playing to the crowd a bit too much. His message forum EXPLODED after the Welling news and I can see him wanting to keep people talking.I noticed that. Also noticed they had a board "update" and now there's more ads per page and less posts. Somebody said they didn't think Sanchez would approve of the arguing on his board. Are you kidding? Can you imagine how hairy this place is going to be if its January and we still don't know who Supes is going to be? :eek:That would be hysterical, in a really sad sort of way, 'cause you know how people can be.
So wait... the Star Trek film starts shooting in a month, and they haven't announced who will be playing Kirk? Oh wow! I can't believe I'm missing that. Somebody post it here (Talon thread) when it happens. I'd love to know who the knew sap is gonna be.
Whomever it finally is, good for them. If it's Tom than fantastic I'm there 10 times as long as its halfway decent. If Welling is cast, is it wrong to say that I'd be there 10 times even if it's not decent? Tom Welling AS Superman in a live action feature film? Oh c'mon! I don't care if they cast Madonna as Wonder Woman, I'm there. LOL (Hyperbole for humor)
If its Routh, I wont be as excited, but even though I like to tease about the guy to our cousins over yonder I've long since gotten over that and dont really have the energy that some do to debate it much. Count me in for one viewing.I'll catch it when it comes to cable in that situation. He's my deal breaker. Sorry. Just is.
If its a new guy, than may God have mercy on his poor soul because he immediately becomes the most nit-picked actor in Hollywood.Jeeze, you got that right. It makes me laugh that Jett was trying to perpetrate the rumor that actors were shying away from Batman because they didn't want to step on Bale's toes. Meh. I think that's utter nonsense. And while there really isn't any toes to step on in accepting the Superman role, the fanship is so divided on who they do want that *anybody* is gonna catch hell, no matter what.
PS: Hey Showtime, how come you don't want people knowing that's you posting there? Other than Sanchez and a few drive bys, they're mostly just a bunch of youngish fanboys. They're opinionated, but they seem to be pretty harmless. No?

I think you're right, I think Al Gough is covering his tracks either way.
Are you still going to stick with your original "No Tights, No Flights" policy, considering how far we've come with the mythology and the fact that Supergirl [aka Kara, played by Laura Vandervoort] will be flying? — Salchan
Al Gough: Yes, we are sticking with that policy as far as Clark is concerned. (Obviously Bizarro can fly as well as Kara.) But following up on what Chloe said about his lack of flying in the season premiere ("Clark, you need to get on that"), Kara will be giving him "flying lessons" later in the season. Although with Clark, they end up being more like "falling lessons."
Since there is going to be a JLA movie and [Superman Returns'] Brandon Routh and [Batman Begins'] Christian Bale are not going to be in it, is there any chance that Tom Welling and the rest of the gang from Smallville's own Justice League could be featured in the roles? — cooper2000
Al Gough: That, unfortunately, isn't how Hollywood works. You will see a brand-spanking-new group of actors donning the tights for that film. I heard it is under the direction of George (Mad Max) Miller, so I am personally very excited to see it.

Thing is, Gough has been rumored to have been the problem in this Welling as superman thing for a good amount of time the negotiations went down.
Even when we were hearing news from both Sanchez and Emijayne that Welling was under negotiations, Gough openly denied it. He COULD very well be right, but he could also just be that he`s covering his ass, like mentioned earlier by some of the posters here.
One thing about Gough though, I don`t have the slightest bit of trust in the guy, he has a bad tendency to lie.

I know, and if Gough honestly is bound by that legal agreement people are talking about, it won't matter where he denies that Tom was in contention for Superman ... on TV Guide or on the web. If he has to deny, he's probably legally bound to no matter where he's interviewed.
The thing that feels like deja vu here is that the fans caught wind of these talks and ran with it, just like back in 2004. If nothing else comes of this, at least the WB realizes that Tom is still a huge fan favorite. Sucks to be on this roller coaster again however. It's a fun ride up, but if this turns out to be like 2004, the ride down was a big kick in the pants.

If I was in charge of a studio. I would certainly keep an eye on what the fans were saying. Besides creating buzz. Its a good way to see how the fans think of story ideas and casting. Not that I would base every decision on what fans on a forum think. But, if you can get the core fans behind it. They are the ones who see the movie multiple times. Look at Superman Returns. It split the Supes fan base. And didn't do as well as it could have. I saw it once. If I would have liked it (hating the story plots) I would have seen in 2 or 3 times.

For a guy who claimed discussion of JL hadn't come up once in past conversation, Gough sure seems pretty confident on a few details: "You will see a brand-spanking-new group of actors donning the tights for that film."
That a fact? That right there speaks volumes, because even the trade papers couldn't nail down what was going on with casting. All anybody has said so far is that various "sources" say they doubt Bale or Routh would be involved.
And if by "Hollywood doesn't work like that" Gough means, "Hollywood isn't in the habit of taking it up the ying yang by dipsquat tv show producers," then yes, yes, I agree. They'd rather move on.
Between the JL comments and Gough's other statements about SV, he better get in the habit of watching over his shoulder and avoid dark alleys at night. I... I... just don't know where to begin. :cmad:

What could be misinformation though is Routh and Bales involvement or many other things.

Lets be very clear about what has happened. At first news was very easy to get on Justice League, we nailed the fact that the studio wanted it for 2009, that it would have a early 2008 start date (pre-strike), which characters were in the film, parts of the storyline including the death of one of the heroes, i'm sure by now everyone know who was going to die, right?
Even the early reports that WB was looking at mo-cap, which Variety confirmed.
even when I confronted David Slade about his involvement on JL, he confirmed it, we didn't report on Slade early because we were asked not to but this was all info from my sources, all 100% right regardless what a couple haters keep on saying.
Tom Welling was also given to me by the same source which I confirmed with multiple people at WB.
Even Clint Morris over at Moviehole, who is producing a handful of movies, heard rumblings about Tom. The Gough/Millar thing came from the same camp, was it BS? I find it very unlikely.
Regarding Countingdown.com's source, I have talked to her and I am pretty confident that her sources are solid.
What is going on right now? I don't know, we have been super busy on tons of other films that we have to report on. That whole IndyGate photo thing took up plenty of my free time last week plus the visit to the Indy set and Amblin offices to talk to Spielberg was very hectic.
I am trying very hard to find things out right now but I am running into a dead end.
Things might change soon and hopefully someone cracks. I am planning on taking out a few WB friends next week for drinks and if nothing has been confirmed or announced I will try to pry something from them at that time.
like I mentioned last week, I have been told my multiple WB contacts that I have pissed off a few execs, oh well, its my job to try to get news.
WB was really pissed off at us, Chud and a few others earlier in the year because between us and a few sites we had broken the entire cast of Watchmen and they were planning this big thing over at Comic Con.
I think that they are trying to avoid that all over again.
We will keep digging.

I thought Captain America was dead?
WB obviously has spoken to the right people to keep whatever is happening with this movie quiet. Whether they found the leaks and plugged them or have spoken with the webmasters on sites like IESB, remains to be seen.
My opinion is that WB is planning a big release of this news and is goi to Hype it up, most likely a press release given to all sites to release when they deem it time.
I think WB got ticked off at Rob for going on live television and announcing that Welling was going to be Superman in JLA while he was still in negotiations, that set of a chain reaction on all the major movie sites reporting Welling as Superman. The problem is the negtiations fell through, and it is also possible this was going on behind Gough's back, and once he heard and got involved the negotiations were then killed.
That is all speculation, just one scenario. I think it's also possible that Welling was simply in talks and it didn't work out contractually for whatever reason, that happens all the time in Hollywood. No fault of anybody in particular.

While I am not a Welling fan (read indifferent), if he gets his shot at wearing the tights, well good for him. Maybe he will do a great job, or possibly stink it up. Time will tell (if he gets the part that is). I find it odd that WB will be recasting their popular franchises (Superman and Batman) for this film, but since it is a completely different story and does not fit into the other films continuity, then what is it going to hurt?

My email is down so I'm posting this here for you. Something for you to look into while I'm on vacation.
I've been trying to find out more about the press release I told you about and got almost nowhere. However, someone who my husband worked with on a few projects last year that is usually a reliable source told him today that WB is planning to release all info about JLA including cast, filming dates, release date, etc on Nov 18th. After making some calls myself, it turns out that is the last day of the Wizard World Texas Convention. Would they really wait that long to release anything?? I tried confirming it and ran into big brick walls here. I'm hoping you might have better luck.
Let me know what you find out.

Sounds like you are thinking that it's not going to happen. BUMMER! :csad:
Your post would explain a lot of things - for one thing the angry, vehement denials of Gough.
If there is any hope left in me at this point it is that in this last Gough denial (TV Guide) he didn't come out and say directly that Tom wasn't going to be in the movie like he has in the past and the tone is completely different. But on the other hand I almost pick up a scent of "backtracking" from Robert, saying that misinformation has been leaked.
I'm so sick of all of this. Maybe Gough is not the bad guy in this JLA scenario but does it p**s anybody else off that Gough said Clark will be taking "falling lessons?" I can't even begin to speak about how irritated that makes me!!!!!!! :cmad: :cmad: :cmad:

Really? What was it for then? That's the big question. Nobody knows. It was NOT The Fog, and it wasn't the CBTD sequel either. Both of those films happened much much later in time. The proximity in dates to all of the other rumors at the time however - Welling being involved with SR - made Welling's words that much more eye-opening. He said that stuff four days after the S5 rumors, and two days after other "insiders" were saying Welling indeed signed something. Something was CLEARLY going on, but nobody knows EXACTLY what happened between the time rumors said Welling would be in the film to Routh being formally announced.
And here we are, aye-freakin'-gain. It's like some cruel joke being perpetrated by... somebody. "Hey, it worked three years ago. Lets do it again!" Gah!

I don't want to see him try and fail, try and fail and stall until the end of the show. There's too many who will have a field day with this one. They've already said that once he flies the show is over, which I don't understand the thinking behind that one, but if they push eight seasons it doesn't sound good to me. I hope you are right and it's not something that emasculates Clark or makes him look stupid for laughs.

Regarding Countingdown.com's source, I have talked to her and I am pretty confident that her sources are solid.
It's become rather annoying to me to see Jayne continually bashed in passive aggressive ways. If you have a source, e-mail Sanchez and compare notes. If you'd rather not, that's fine too. But don't bash somebody who may indeed be VERY connected despite their personal bias. If you trust Sanchez, trust that he apparently trusts Jayne's sources too and has gone on record saying her sources are "solid."
My exacerbation over the big picture here is the possibility that we may have to wait till Nov 18th for something official, not the change in "story" itself. If there's one thing I've learned about this business it's that things change on a dime. What's set in stone today could be dynamited tomorrow.

My Thoughts and Fellings And Replys
1)Respones to Goughs Answers to TV Guide
"Al Gough: Yes, we are sticking with that policy as far as Clark is concerned. (Obviously Bizarro can fly as well as Kara.) But following up on what Chloe said about his lack of flying in the season premiere ("Clark, you need to get on that"), Kara will be giving him "flying lessons" later in the season. Although with Clark, they end up being more like "falling lessons."
So, its NOT a budget issue anymore since Bizarro and Kara can fly? I still hate that Kara is teaching him to fly. Why cant he learn on his own? And he HAS flown in the past.
"Gough: I am glad you are hooked; that way, when I don't give you any new information, you will keep watching. Mwhahahaaha! Here's what I can say: You'll see Martian Manhunter, Supergirl, Bizarro, and the return of Brainiac and the Green Arrow... as well as a future hero to be named later!
Are you trying to be a smartass? Future hero? Who could that be?
"Gough: That, unfortunately, isn't how Hollywood works. You will see a brand-spanking-new group of actors donning the tights for that film. I heard it is under the direction of George (Mad Max) Miller, so I am personally very excited to see it."
So, first you dont know anything about the film. Now you say its going to be a new group of actors donning the tights. I notice you didnt mention Welling's name. You "heard" George Miller is directing? Mr. Miller, your poker face sucks!
"Gough: .....There may also be someone on the show who is currently on Lex's side and we don't know it yet. (Kids, fire up the TiVos and put on those thinking caps!)
Who could that be?
"Gough: You also know that Lex will become evil, that Clark becomes Superman, and that the two will be mortal enemies, yet you've been watching for seven seasons! The fact is, Clark loves Lana, and that is one of the central relationships of the show. She is that crucial first relationship that helps define him and his future relationships with women. The fact that he screws it up so badly, no matter how hard he tries, is one of the reasons he ends up with Lois. Remember, my young Padawan, our story is the journey, not the conclusion."
Clark screws it up? Do you know anything about the comics? Clark choses to leave, cause he knows he cant be Superman and be with her at the same time.
"Gough: Clark's journey this season revolves around his struggle between his Kryptonian heritage and his earthly upbringing, and dealing with his cousin — which ain't easy! Kara will give him an insight into his family (which is seriously screwed up) and his birth planet (which went boom, so there was something seriously screwed up there as well). He will grapple with his past and his future. And now that Lana is back, will he finally realize that this relationship, no matter how hard he tries, is ultimately doomed."
His family is screwed up? SHUT UP NOW!
I cant take this anymore.
2) On a lighter note, check out these old interview clips with Welling, Rosenbaum, and Kruek. I think these are from Season 3.

I thought it was rather funny, and it's exactly the scenario I imagined when we'd first start seeing Clark try to fly. I would never have expected him to just up, up and away.:yay:Everybody walks away from a series of statements having placed different emphasis on the points they feel are important. Clark falling during his initial attempts to fly sound like it will be a riot. I've got no problem with that at all - I think it'll be funny, endearing, and very memorable. How could it not? Remember him looking into the women's locker room? Remember the popcorn? The scarecrow? The BARN DOOR!? But like every other power Clark has discovered, he has it mastered by the episode's end. It plays into the plot in some way and it's not done just for laughs.
So here we have Gough saying they're sticking with the no flights policy as far as Clark is concerned. He'll try to fly, but ultimately fail. But Gough doesn't have any problem with Kara and MM fling, not to mention the whole concept of how cute it's going to be to see Supergirl give Superman flying lessons but have it turn out to be "falling lessons" instead. Golly, I can't wait. :whatever:
I think Gough's an idiot for making some *really* stupid comments w/o thinking first. I believe the success of SV has more to do with its heartwarming cast and the Superman mythos than it does some of the asinine decisions Gough has made. But just to be clear, I don't hate Gough. I don't know the man. I do however LOATHE some of the comments he's made. He comes off sounding completely clueless sometimes.

So here we have Gough saying they're sticking with the no flights policy as far as Clark is concerned.
Which implies to me, that they are keeping Clark grounded because that's one of the last steps he'll take before he dons the red, yellow and blue.
He'll try to fly, but ultimately fail.
He wont ultimately fail, because in the end he does fly. It's just going to take alot of practice. Seeing him do this is better than not seeing him even try. In my opinion any way.
But Gough doesn't have any problem with Kara and MM fling,
Because the show isnt about them learning to be Superheroes. Its about Clark Kent. Who cares if they can fly or not?
not to mention the whole concept of how cute it's going to be to see Supergirl give Superman flying lessons but have it turn out to be "falling lessons" instead. Golly, I can't wait. :whatever:
Did he say it would be cute? I'm betting that secretly you think it will be cute. :cwink:
Actually, I dont see the problem in her giving him a few pointers. After all, she can fly. Its not like she's going to be holding his hand when they take off, and then she gradually lets go. Well it might be, but I seriously doubt it. MM cant show him, because his physique is different.
I think Gough's an idiot for making some *really* stupid comments w/o thinking first.
And he's been doing it for six seasons, coming on seven.
I believe the success of SV has more to do with its heartwarming cast and the Superman mythos than it does some of the asinine decisions Gough has made.
True, that's what I love about the show. By asinine I presume you mean some of their more wilder plots and new character introductions, however it may not have lasted as long as it has if those elements hadnt been introduced.
But just to be clear, I don't hate Gough. I don't know the man. I do however LOATHE some of the comments he's made. He comes off sounding completely clueless sometimes.
I dont think he's clueless, I think he thinks he's being funny. Someone should tell him that his sense of humour is completely lacking.
He tries not to give ANYTHING away, and ends up sounding like a moron in his attempts to be evasive.
I also see this first lesson that Jor-el has handed him as a test to see whether he can lead the world by example. If he succeeds in teaching Kara by his lead, then he'll be ready to take the next step up, city by city, country by country. :super:

Yes yes, he's Superman. He'll wear the suit and fly when he's 30. Okay, moving on. :D
Somebody brought up an interesting theory over at IESB, and there may be more to it than the poster even realizes.
The understanding has always been that G&M would need to know by November at the latest if the show was going to be renewed for another year. They need to know in order to start the launch sequence or not. Everything up to that point is technically "filler."
Now what if Warner Features has two actors signed for the Superman role in JL. One is the primary (Welling), and a second (?) is the back-up actor who would step in if the primary couldn't. Speculation about such a situation actually started back in Singer's day when Warners supposedly had Caviezel signed as a fall back for SR, and Welling was a verbal tertiary. Reference the MTV comments.
Okay, so the argument for not killing SV has always been money. Hello? The show makes MILLIONS of dollars for Warners every year. What if the November announcement for JL is linked to CW's verbal to G&M, because IF CW pays for an eighth season of SV, that's more coin in Warners coffers, so they would just go with the fall back actor - whoever that may be - who's signed to take the role if Welling can't?
Is that too way out there? I'm thinking dollars and cents here at the end of the day, which is what Warners would be thinking. Remember, options. They always want options.

There needs to be an end at some point. Even ABC & the Lost creators both agreed on a time to give Lost a "proper" ending. Smallville is the next X-Files in terms of going on & on continuing for all of the wrong reasons.

They can always kill Smallville & then bring in a Supergirl Series with her in the tights & all in Metropolis :oSure, but SV is guaranteed money in the bank. Supergirl isn't. They could go another year and THEN try to spin off Supergirl.
Just to be clear, I don't WANT them to do that. Given how they've been dragging it out the last two years (S6, and now going into S7), as much as I love the show, they probably should wrap it up. That's not to say I wouldn't watch it next year if it went S8. Hell, I'm here till it ends, or I'm six feet under, whichever comes first. But dragging things out with Lex and Lana last year, and now Supergirl this year... meh. I want the show to be about Clark at its heart. I don't want to see any more parallels between him and his cousin, or Lex's excursion with divine intervention instead of all out evil. Enough. Get that launch sequence started and make it the best 12 hours of television EVER. I know it'll be amazing... when they finally get around to it. End it with a shirt rip or flying out of the FOS, or something along those lines. And then bang, the following year, Welling is Superman in Justice League.
I've known of Jayne's posts long before she was popular around these here parts. She's not "new". I am insinuating that anybody can say Today, Tomorrow, Two Weeks from Tuesday, and then say no its going to be announced at one of the said industrys biggest events, yes. My point is, it's not really breaking news when every week it's been said the announcement is coming.

No, I've said it in several of my posts; I believe on The Hype and maybe in this forum, I believe she does have some sort of connection but it is turning out to be quite inaccurate at times. I also have pointed out instances where there is alot of vagueness in her posts. You can't always fall back on, the well Hollywood changes day to day phrase. The fact of the matter is, whether Rob says she is solid or not, he has been much more accurate with JLA news than she is and he does this for a living. I'd go to battle with him on JLA news any day.

I think she is completely bias, but so was/is Rob on some occasions, thats not really the rub. It's not her checked history on the Countingdown boards either, it's just that she is not that accurate with some of her info and is vague on some accounts. Whether it is her sources or her in general, I am not sure. To me I rather trust Variety, IESB, and other sources.

I personally feel people have allowed her to dangle their hopes of Tom Welling as Superman in her hands...You said it yourself Pat, she isn't a news source, but people treat her posts like they are Headline material.
My personal biased opinion, ;), enjoy the rest of this season...don't let it be hampered by something out of your hands, again. They could press that 'Launch Sequence' at any minute, and it will feel like S2 or S3 all over again. And everyone wins with great eppy's.

Must be a gift from Bryan Singer.
Seriously though, he seems to be concentrating hard on something....could it be the yellow \S/ ?
Remember in the glimpse of the future we saw his cape did have one...interesting.
Don't understand as well why he would be given a cape? I guess all will be known in due time.
On another note..WTF with Singer wanting Stamp as Zod? Can't help but think that was some playful talk on set that someone overheard and took wrong.

I thought Robert over at IESB said that MOS is on the backburner; aka...indefinite hold. If that's true, then this is a bogus rumor. If that's not true, then maybe some of Robert's other info is going to turn out to be false too. :csad:

It is, it's been reported everywhere.
The Zod rumor IS a rumor, it's labeled as such. If it's true, fans certainly won't be pleased.

That's why I think this was just something said and repeated out of context.
You can't help but think that since BS and TS both worked on Superman at one point in there careers and with BS being such a fan of Donner's that the subject hasn't come up during filming. I just don't think it was a serious statement.

That's crazy.
I love Terrance, he has a great speaking voice but the dude's a bit long in the tooth to be playing a baddie in an action adventure film.

It's hard to say whether there is an :super: on that, can't tell from those images, but :down on Singer using Stamp as Zod.
The guy's too old and if MOS is still going to happen, can't Bryan make his own superman movie without stealing from Donner?

However, I'll just tell you briefly, that its given to him by the actor who plays Warrior Angel

The cape is a gift TO Clark; he's not going to give it to his dippy cousin. It IS a "costume" in context with the episode's story however. IOW, there's no \S/ on it. I doubt it will become Superman's actual uniform cape, but you never know. It does give Clark ideas, and you'll see from his reaction in the episode that the wheels will be turning in his head when he holds it.
I love the bright crimson color, the fact that this cape is cloth, and it looks lighter than a feather. Go Smallville!!!! :D

There will be a character in an upcoming episode who wears a cape and tights however. He's been established in show canon as "Warrior Angel." See the "Action" thread for more spoilers on the episode. Many of us are really looking forward to it - for obvious reasons.
