Porter is not Superman, DJ is not Batman and Minka is not WW. They auditioned for the JL movie, but not as those characters.

Porter might have auditioned for the Flash, Minka maybe for Talia, and no clue who DJ might me.... People are getting up in arms for no reason at all.

I don't think we're up in arms over nothing, there is a lot of indications that he was passed over for reasons not given. Some things I've heard was that he was never really under consideration at all...

I don't know what to think, but I think anyone (and I'm not talking about you specifically) who still thinks that Welling has a chance is probably fooling themselves.

I've moved on, changed my avie back to my Superbeefcake and I hope the any new Kara centric episodes aren't as FOTW and dreck filled as Fierce was.

You are right. Wasn't Welling suppose to be in the running for the SR movie? All the hype and speculation for nothing. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

But until an official cast has been announce everyone is free game. Routh or Welling...

Sometimes I can't tell the difference between the Superman fans and the Welling fans.

Well, I think the same thing sorta happened the last time too.

It seemed like he was considered for that too, but then didn't get it for reasons maybe no one really knows for sure.

Other people said he was never really seriously considered at all for that either.

*shrug*

We're just fans who want what we want, I guess we're lucky we've got Tom playing Clark on TV for 7 seasons, maybe even in an 8th, but we're never going to get him in tights in the local cineplex.

Damn them all to hell for them being the idiots they are, but despite it being a sad fact, it is probably a fact.

I may still see it depending on who gets the big three parts, but if it's Scott Porter I'm not sure I will.

I don't think he looks like Superman at all. It's not like he's ugly or anything but he's just too bland looking to me...

*shrug*

I guess we'll see when we see.

I believe the casting options that were announced might be completely fake. There's no way one of those people could be part of the big three given what we've heard already.

Something's not adding up. Either those people auditioning are for real (as it pertains to the big three), and the movie is going to be more on the light hearted side, which would mean the tone of the movie can't remain one with so much death and destruction (see Flash/Maxwell Lord) as previously rumored.
-or-
The tone of the movie hasn't changed, and that cast list is fake (at least as it pertains to the big three) since it doesn't really jive with the previously rumored plot points.

Of course there's one last "-or-" i might be missing: WB are morons. But even I'm not willing to believe they're this stupid.

I have the same feeling Zing, what is interesting about the whole thing is that common stands out very odd among the whole bunch whole were recently rumored to have auditioned. I mean dude is older than 35 and is the only black actor rumored among the whole bunch.

Maybe he didn't get it since Gough/Millar got their 5th season and he didn't get it this time since it looks like Gough/Millar got their 8th season.

Reason why Bale is not in JLA simply because he has his own successful franchise that is currently going on right now. WB doesn't want to mess with that. The same way can be look at Welling and Smallville.

A lot of people are claiming they won't see this movie for whatever reason. I disagree. Once you see that JLA trailer it will get you pumped no matter who is playing who. Those who won't feel that way aren't DC comic fans.

Wait wait wait.... Superman HAS to be attractive? No wonder you like Welling over Routh... :cwink:

WTF?

So I guess you could say (if this is legit) that the younger actors recently auditioned could have been for the

roles of We then learn that Lord has captured a team of superheroes already – “ULTRAMAN, SUPERWOMAN, OWLMAN, JOHNNY QUICK and POWER RING...” – who he plans to use for his own devious mission : pit them against the “Justice League (http://www.moviehole.net/news/20071018_clints_got_the_rundown_on_just.html#)”.

Man, I can't wait to hear something official about all of this.

With all the work that Tom has put in to developing the character of Clark Kent, I'm actually thankful that he's not associated with this lightheared film. :ninja:

I think Porter's name on the list is genuine, although I agree with you, maybe he's not Big 3 material. I still think he's more likely going for Flash or GL. His myspace still has a picture of him standing next to a picture of Flash and next to his picture he's written: "I wanna be a SuperHero....Pray for me." He seems to be a pretty religious guy, I looked at his blogs and he mentions prayer quite a few time.

It's funny, his myspace song is called "Hero" and starts out "Will you, let me, be your hero.." and he has one of those "Which Superhero Are You" memes that shows him as being the Flash.

I like him. He's a SV fan. :)

I emailed him in case he wouldn't add me and he seemed nice, asked me to pray for him too. I'm tempted to ask about the film :O

You know, I was hoping for a movie that would appeal to all ages, but not ONLY kids.

I guess it might be jumping the gun to judge the movie entirely on one report about leaked script pages, but it certainly sounds...concerning.

Also, regarding this line: We then learn that Lord has captured a team of superheroes already – “ULTRAMAN, SUPERWOMAN, OWLMAN, JOHNNY QUICK and POWER RING...”

Wtf? Am I supposed to know those characters? I remember Ultraman as a Japanese kids show I used to watch in Hawaii back in the 70's. But is there a DC version of Ultraman too?

More Byrnes era where Clark is the guy and Superman is what he does. Lex Luthor as head of Lexcorp and a smart business tycoon. Bring in a physical threat for villain such as Metallo created through tech by Lex who gained in from Brainiac. Brainiac manipulates Lex, Lex manipulates Corben, bam... Action, story, SUPERMAN.

This whole project is just moronic on every level (if the current rumours are true).

WB wants a tentpole aimed more towards teens/kids? Fine. That idea even sounds promising. May I suggest they use the G.D. Teen Titans for that! They fit the bill pretty well.

Dragging A-list characters into this thing is a colossal mistake. Any character not named Batman will suffer irreparable damage from this.

I fully believe this movie will kill any chance we’ll get of seeing a Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, or Green Lantern movie aimed at the 18-34 demographic.

I have no problem with MOS being made I really liked Superman Returns and I really like Smallville. I see no problem with liking both. Doesnt make me a bad person or anything like that. Make MOS just make it right, more action, super villains, and maybe just maybe you could recast Lois. I dont have a problem with the kid or anything, maybe make Superman not so depressed. I mean at the end he seems at peace, he had a nice chat with his boy and flew off into the sunset. Singer is great with telling a story but you have to add more. So if WB wants to make MOS then by all means go for it. Granted I am also up for a reboot as well. Just give me "GOOD" Superman. Give me Tom give me Brandon, hell give me someone that i can see as Superman and make it special and make it fun and give the greatest Hero of all time some meaning! Let this generation of teenagers and children and hell even adults fall in love with "The Man of Steel" too.

And.....I'm done. I used to really fascinated following these kinds of things, but I've had it. Time for me to move on to green pastures. Would have liked to have seen Tom as Superman at some point. Hope after Smallville is finished, I'll one day get to see a Superman that had me as excited as I was when I first watched Superman: The Movie on a crappy VHS tape with my mom. Later folks!

So apparently all that script stuff was complete BS. IESB has a report on it now.Just saw that. Phew! What a relief. I bet that "script" came from a rival studio. It fooled Clint *and* Sanchez, so it must have looked REAL good. Format-wise, not content-wise. We all saw their reactions to the script itself. Heh! *shudders* LOL ;)

And.....I'm done. I used to really fascinated following these kinds of things, but I've had it. Time for me to move on to green pastures.Awwww.... hang in there, Lighthouse. That script was a hoax, and Warners hasn't announced the cast yet, so there's still hope for a more adult story with adult characters. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that it won't be Sky High II in a pretty package. Hopefully, we'll know soon, 'cause if it's true a rival studio(s) is trying to sabotage the buzz (just speculation on my part), maybe it'll be a great film after all. They seem to be going out of their way to take JL down a few notches.

Would have liked to have seen Tom as Superman at some point. Hope after Smallville is finished, I'll one day get to see a Superman that had me as excited as I was when I first watched Superman: The Movie on a crappy VHS tape with my mom. Later folks!

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j6/Lighthouse27/lighthousesunset.jpgIt's hard not to get sucked into the rumors and buzz, so I hear where you're coming from. I do have faith that one day we'll get a really good, enjoyable Superman film. And even though JL is an ensemble pic, it might even be it, so who knows?

Since Welling isn't doing JL, and SV's ratings are actually UP from last year, I think an eighth season is pretty likely. And I did like what I read in Gough's last posted TV Guide interview. Hard to believe, I know LOL. Furthermore, even if the Welling rumors over the last few months were exaggerated, it did prove to Warners that the mainstream media and general public were hip to the idea of him being cast as Supes in a film. So I'm seeing a lot of silver in the previously dark cloud we had raining on our parade.

I say stick around, things are actually looking up - up in the sky... :ninja:

Does anyone think because of one bull***** peice of news after another they just might want to throw a wrench in the Welling rumors and put out false info to save their big announcement? Think about it, the internet has been going crazy over this story and they were obviously sick of the leaks. why would this Noveck dude even say anything, isn't there a gag order all the way around with anyone involved? Could he be trying to throw off someone already letting the cat out of the bag? Why wouldn't Welling's own people put this down from day 1 if he wasn't involved? This guy says MOS is still a go, but is delayed. Why in the hell would they go with another Singer movie if they are so into the new JL film but insist on a new Superman. If their new product is good why abort the new successful Superman and give the subpar Superman another shot? Too many questions still with all of this. I'm guessing when everything comes out it will all be completey different then what is being reported with or without Welling anyway.

I can see where you are coming from. :csad:

Something still doesn't sit right with me about all this but honestly I think wanting it so badly has been clouding my perception of things. I still believe that Welling was approached for this role. Maybe he just didn't think it was right for him. If what we are now hearing is true it makes sense that he wouldn't be interested in it.

Maybe it only changed to a kiddie flick after they couldn't get Welling (for whatever reason). They were also in talks with other "older" actors at that time (Jessica Biel, the other Australian actress, etc.).

I am finally at peace with it and ready to move on. I just hope whatever went down benefits Tom in the long run.

As to bashing between forums, eh. What else is new? The real irony is most people interested in the JL subject post and read everywhere, not just on one board. That includes the dude that made the comment that Robert got all bent over. A lot of users don't use the same handles everywhere they go, so that complicates matters. "Rogzilla," for example? While he uses the same handle at BT's, he's "The Marvel" at The Hype. There are even posters from TWoP posting at IESB. Point is, if you're a fan, you probably make the rounds. Very interesting casting info from AICN

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/34488

We know that a bunch of young actors recently read for roles in George Miller's upcoming epic JUSTICE LEAGUE.
Those actors included Adam Brody, Joseph Cross (RUNNING WITH SCISSORS), Michael Angarano (SKY HIGH), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (GRINDHOUSE)and Teresa Palmer (WOLF CREEK)........
I've since spoken with a source buried deep in the production who shed some light on this casting session.
This source said that all those people above (and many more) were only reading for two characters: The Flash and Wonder Woman.
The source assured me that the casting is skewing very young only for The Flash because he's the youngest member of the Justice League. And Wonder Woman is a goddess that doesn't age, so it's understandable she'd be cast young.....
I'm also hearing rumblings from inside the production that now the film will be mostly, if not completely, done live action and not performance capture as was originally thought.
That makes me smile, but it also has me hoping they keep continuity with the ongoing superhero franchises and they get Bale and Routh in as Batman and Superman.

That means that Superman IS cast already as previous reports confirmed.
We know now it isnt Welling.....but just throwing that out there. :)

I'm not on board with the mentality that WW can look young just because she's WW. That's not to say she should look old, but the big three should be played by actors with gravitas, and NONE of those actresses from the casting marathon last weekend have the right look for WW, imho.

As to the Superman and Batman roles, oh boy. I've said casting will make or break the film; it starts with THOSE two characters. The better part of the general public and every fanboy/girl from here to Timbuktu has a very clear, preconceived expectation for what Superman and Batman should look like. Okay everyone...I emailed Robert after hearing about AICN's report and he suggested I posted it here. To make life easy, I'll just copy what I sent Robert. BTW, make note the first took place on Weds so that should be proof I had the info before AICN.

Sent Wed, 17 Oct 2007 16:50:40 -0700 (PDT)

Anything new on your end? I turned my cell off and decided to enjoy some peace and quiet. All I have are more emails of the same stuff. Some say Welling, some say Porter, some say they never even had anyone read for the big 3 because they were already cast. I'm done until something comes from a WB employee.

Sent Thu, 18 Oct 2007 17:08:11 -0700 (PDT)

In the last email I sent you, I mentioned how I was just being told more of the same and that a few said nobody read for the parts of the big 3 at the auditions because they were already cast. Well, I just got a call that Ain't It Cool News is reporting pretty much the same thing with the exception of Wonder Woman. So, I responded to the emails I got and each person admitted having things mixed up a bit and that the 3 who were already cast are Batman, Superman, and Green Lantern. Now it may be nothing, but these are the same people who still swear to me that Welling will end up being revealed as Superman and that Gough and Noveck are both covering up until it's made official in WB's press release. If they were right about nobody reading for the parts, could they actually be right about Welling too?? I have a headache.....

So you guys be the judges. They have yet to be wrong with anything I've asked them. They appear to right about the auditions with the recent AICN report, so are they also right about Welling??

What would be the reason Emily's sources keep insisting Welling is in? Are they jerking her and us around for sport? Is she? This is all so confusing.

Now it may be nothing, but these are the same people who still swear to me that Welling will end up being revealed as Superman and that Gough and Noveck are both covering up until it's made official in WB's press release. If they were right about nobody reading for the parts, could they actually be right about Welling too?? I have a headache.....

It did strike me odd that both Gough and Noveck used the exact same phrasing in their denials, "Not happening."

I hear ya! However, there is one other thing - those recent photos of Tom on his porch in LA. That was during the time they were auditioning the young Hollywood stars. It was reported that Miller wanted to auditon characters together to test for chemistry. Supes and WW?

We rarely see Tom in LA and then recently we have two sightings. The photos of Tom buying groceries coincided with rumors he was negotiating a contract. These latest appear at another time when the auditions are reported. Worth a ponder, I think.

I've still made my peace about it so if it doesn't mean anything, so be it. I'm lovin this new episode tonight and next week looks promising, too. That makes me happy. :yay:

Good Lord when will these Welling rumors end.

OK I can believe that the actor list was only casting as WW and Flash. Makes sense if they want to spin off these characters especially...

Having Bats, Sups, and GL already cast seems odd. OK Common as GL, thas fine.

But if the WB already knows their Superman and Batman I give them props for this not getting leaked out.

All I have to say is I hope Welling is cast as Superman for JLA. Because if JLA is indeed going to be a restart to all franchises even Batman (and by the looks of it that might happen) then I would want none other then Welling to take over as Superman.

I think it is safe to say that George Miller is looking for 20 year olds or maybe even younger & an all Aussie cast & will not settle for less  It is sounding like George may not be the right director for this movie. I wonder if the WB will end up firing Miller & just hire a yes man director ? It seems like a yes man director is what this movie needs.

I'm reading through that thread over there and some other people have said it's not real, no way is it real...

Robert clarified that he's not sending it out just on the off-chance it's real, not that he really thinks it is.

Seems fake to me.... I wish I could get a copy, though.

One guy on there said he'd read it and although the pages seem to be in the correct format, it doesn't "read right" for a professional script.

I've read my fair share of bad scripts back when I was trying harder to be a script writer and you can tell the difference between a "real" script and a noob one.

They do "read" differently... so maybe it is a fake after all, although I was rereading Metamorphosis (Season 1, ep2) last week and Al & Miles wrote that and they had some noob mistakes in there...

Like putting in "there" where they shoulda had "their" and other typos.

Even pros can sometimes write like noobs.

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=38501

Asked about Green Lantern

We asked him if he got the comic bug while doing that movie or whether he was a fan of comic books. "I just like to go out for good roles, anything, that's all it is really, whether it's a comic book or true story or whatever it may be. I wanna be a part of great projects, but yeah, I'm familiar with Green Lantern because I collected (them) when I grew up." When we asked how the auditions went, it was obvious that he had been prepped well by his handler, because he said with a smile that he couldn't talk about it right now. (Tomorrow is the press conference for American Gangster and maybe someone will get more out of him about it then.)

In one picture he looks like a Superman but in another picture he looks like Bruce WayneI know him as an actor having seen him on different projects, most recently in Transformers. I think he could pull off either role well, and I wouldn't object to having him. In fact, I hope he lands one of the two roles. That would be great from my POV.

I dont know Pat I think Common could be a good Green Lantern & I can get used to Winstead as Wonder Woman.I was specifically referring to Superman and Batman. Winstead as WW? Eh. I wouldn't complain too loudly, but I would prefer an actress with a little more... oomph. I don't really care all that much who they cast in the other roles. I don't know Common from a hole in the wall. But I don't "know" Green Lantern either, so whatever on that LOL. Same thing happened with Sam Raimi and Spiderman. Tobey Maguire was the "compromise". Sony wanted Leo DiCaprio. Raimi wanted Wes Bentley.I could give another example, but I won't. LOL

I'll be honest folks, George Miller's rumored insistence on a teen-styled JL has me shaking in my red boots. That will suck like a Hoover if it comes to pass.

Look at Morris as MM on SV. THAT's what we should be getting for the character in a blockbuster film about the Justice League. Actors with a real solid style and talent. It's okay if they want to make *one* of the ensemble a "kid." Think Rogue on X-Men. But the Teen Titan approach for the whole group will blow chunks. I really want to see something epic and great, not childish and silly. I know that's asking a lot from a summer popcorn flick based on comic book characters, but it CAN be done. Mix the fun of F4, the message of X-Men, the style of Spider-Man, the screenwriting of BB, and the production value SR, and we'll have a winner here. Just get the bloody casting right! :cmad:

Talia.

:ninja:

Oh, she'd be good for that...

Also, if they're doing more of the story from the OMAC project than those (maybe fake) 14 pages might indicate, she'd be good as Sasha as well (Black King's Knight in Checkmate and former lover of Bruce's).

What? Warners wants Routh. Miller wants Porter. Welling is the "compromise". Im kidding of course. :)

I really doubt the entire cast will be "young". That HR audition list was for Flash and Wonder Woman ONLY.

I agree completely.

With Miller, Osborne, WETA at least it will "look" good. But your right, casting is EVERYTHING.

What about Olivia Wilde for Wonder Woman?Ugghh.... :(

I really, REALLY hate the fancasting thing. If only because it's a fruitless endeavor. Rarely do directors give a crap about what we the fans want. They have their glorious "vision" to fulfill with millions of dollars of somebody else's coin. I think JL is a perfect example of this.

But in a world where sequels and actor's salaries don't matter, here's who I would cast for WW, just for the sake of argument...

And our chances of seeing THAT ^ happen are..... ZERO!!! So... I'll go back to waiting for Miller's choice. 'Cause then I can either applaud or throw stones. I'm hoping it's not the latter. :(

That said, c'mon folks, lets try to keep this thread on-topic kay? Fan casting can get out of hand, and there's a dozen or more threads for it in the Comic Film's forum. Just saying.

As to TW... he's still far and away my first choice. Seeing anybody else in the role is going to take some getting used to, and just being cast doesn't guarantee that will even happen. It certainly didn't for me the last time. So hopefully, Miller has better luck. :)

I wouldn't put much stock into it. What I realized they have been so many damn rumors out there, that they have covered all the bases so when this movie comes out, some random guy will say "SEE, my sources was 100% correct!"

Yes this movie will be aimed at children, but it probably be around the lines of the Spiderman franchise... where Adults can enjoy it.

Zorex
10-20-2007, 02:12 AM
If it could be anything along the quality of say, something anywhere between Spider-Man & Spider-Man 2, I'd be damn fine with that. Hopefully it won't be skewed too kiddy-friendly, or just that "fun family adventure" crap. Something enjoyable, adventurous, but not sacrificing any seriousness or drama that would be deemed unsellable to wee ones.

I think seeing the final cast lineup will be a good first, albeit minor, indication of what we can expect from the film.

AgentPat

I wouldn't put much stock into it.Hee! That's why I think it's "funny." I care on one level, but I'm completely ignoring it on another. I'm just gonna sit back and wait for official announcements at this point.

I think seeing the final cast lineup will be a good first, albeit minor, indication of what we can expect from the film."Minor?" Bah! It's do or die when it comes to the cast at this point. LOL At the end of the day though, the CinemaBlend dude probably summed it up the best...

...Let’s get something straight: Justice League is not some complicated, Shakespearean superhero allegory. It's not a deep, relationship movie about the bonds of brotherhood and family. That's just not a part of this property. There's one reason and one reason only for it to exist: To deliver an orgy of incredible superpowers. There's no other reason for anyone to buy a ticket for it. We want to watch The Flash racing Superman! Wonder Woman deflecting bullets! Aquaman calling the creatures of the deep into battle! I want to see Martian Manhunter levitate Aquaman’s whales and throw them at his enemies like giant, squirting torpedoes!! If we can't really get all of that, then what's the point in doing it? JLA should be a superhero, superpower orgasm… or why bother?

Zorex
10-20-2007, 03:24 AM
Well, IMO, beyond one's appreciation of the cast lineup chosen (whether or not favourites were cast or not), it still likely won't give us a very clear view of what to expect in terms of the film's quality, but at least maybe what type of JL it'll be, how experienced or established the characters might be, other somewhat minor stuff. The cast could turn people off at first and surprise them (or vice versa).

But...I dunno. I don't really entirely agree with CinemaBlend. At least, that's not what I want in the film. If I did, I'd be campaigning for Bay to direct it. Which, really, could be kind of cool. If you want straight up, visually engaging popcorn action, call. that. man. Imagine the visual style of Armageddon and Transformers with these characters. But frankly, I don't think it's too much to ask for at least...a few moments? of what...maybe depth, or maybe just strong themes, or, at the very least, a good cast that does a lot with a little.

Now I feel like I'm just rambling. This is how I feel about this film. I almost don't know WHAT to feel about this film.

Exclusive Video Interview: Mary Elizabeth Winstead on Wonder Woman!

Written by Robert Sanchez
Saturday, 20 October 2007

IESB tracks down Justice League hopeful Mary Elizabeth Winstead to talk about her recent audition for Wonder Woman.

Spike TV’s Scream Awards took place last night at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles and the IESB is back doing what we have done for years, tracking down celebrities on the red carpet and having them talk about some of the biggest movies that fans are looking forward to.

In the past few years we have talked a few times with Mary Elizabeth Winstead and she has always been fun to interview. But in less than year she has gone from that cute girl to an incredibly beautiful woman. When it was leaked that she had auditioned for Wonder Woman I had to giggle a little bit because in the past I had asked her about possibly auditioning for the Amazonian Princess when Joss Whedon was involved in the stand alone film. In less than a year, she is one of the leading contenders for the role in George Miller's Justice League of America.

Does she look the part? Little Mary is all grown up now and she has an incredible physique, that is why we have created a special photo gallery of her from tonight’s black carpet event. I for one can’t wait to see her in that Wonder Woman costume.

So how did her audition go? When will she hear if she got the gig? Who did she read with? How was it auditioning with George Miller? All those questions and more are answered in our exclusive video interview with the talented and extremely beautiful Mary Elizabeth Winstead. I have to admit, I have a school boy crush after that interview. We wish her luck!
