This is inspired by a thread from Threshold at the X3 forums. The point of it is share your experience of seeing a Superman Returns poster in theaters or else where. So if you've seen a poster for the film please post details and/or a pic (would be great!).:)

Maybe it look dark, 'cause it the pic. I'm sure seeing it in person look better than the pic. And since when does dark colors or look respresent dark characters? Some just miss this point. And it might not be overly bright, but no way does it mean just "dark". I wear some dark clothes like black shirt a lot more than bright colors. Does this mean I'm a vigilante or some evil person, hmm?

And that poster look beautiful. I can't wait till my local theater start putting one up asap. Look like SR promotion is finally up & running. Now the public are going to be aware of the new Superman movie coming out soon.

You sure? Maybe it 'cause King Kong is coming out in 2 weeks, while Supes come out in 7 months or so. I guess people pay attention to movie poster for a movie that is coming out closer than those coming out for months & months. ;)

Well then, 6 Million people per week is quite a few people that are still interested in Superman-based mythology on TV every week isn't it?

That isn't exactly nobody. I'd love to see anyone else (Superhero) try to carry their own show on a weekly sindicated network. Maybe Batman....but, that's pretty much it. And 'early years' X-Men show might work...but how long would the general audience be interested? Smallville is going on it's 5th season. And you know why? It's not because of the actors, or the sometimes confusing storylines, it's because it's an interpretation ABOUT CLARK KENT BECOMING SUPERMAN.

What? not because of the actors? so if they replace all the cast or TW everything would still be the same? I don't think so, SV wouldn't work with a different cast.

Don't get me wrong, they do an adequate job...and some of them are worth watching every damn week. (Glover/Rosenbaum) However, I don't watch the show to see 'names' or pretty faces. I watch the show to see Clark become Superman. The show is, and ALWAYS has been, one big tease to SUPERMAN fans.

I didn't say I wanted the cast replaced. I said that I watch the show for the premise. Not to see said actor walking about for the umpteenth time without a t-shirt to get more girls (and married women) to boost demographics...I know it comes with the territory, but when it comes to 'names', people thought Dean Cain WAS Superman at one point. Where is he now? The audience that you love so much when you're on top, is so easy to forget just 1 year later when the hype machine is no longer there.

I'll take it one step further, I WANTED said actor to don the tights for SR...BUT, that haze whisked away one day when I realized I was only thinking that way because I was so accustomed to it after 3 years. Now, I can look at what is going on in a very different manner. It's windy outside and the view is clear all the way to the ocean.

That fair enough for ya?

Well then, 6 Million people per week is quite a few people that are still interested in Superman-based mythology on TV every week isn't it?Sure, if that were the only reason, but it's not. Here's two excerpts from Daily Variety articles, both dated 1/25/06. The articles were about SV and discussed some of the elements that make it such a successful show...

...Still, fealty to the spirit of the comics alone would hardly explain "Smallville's" resilience, surviving a handful of time-period shifts, including the always dicey proposition of being relocated in its fifth season, when viewer loyalty is easily shaken. Part of the show's durability stems from its playing on multiple levels to different constituencies. At various moments, "Smallville" is an action hour, sci-fi romp, teen soap, family drama and rethinking of comicbook mythology -- often all within the same episode. Small wonder that when the program was honored by the Museum of TV & Radio, the audience included children, teenage girls swooning over Welling and middle-aged men, asking about Clark's wardrobe and where the TV show exists vis-a-vis the films.

http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117936818

...The show's ability to reach a large audience has given "Smallville" a shot at becoming the longest-running live-action superhero comicbook series in history: It's about to surpass the 104 episodes of Reeves' "Adventures of Superman" skein and looks likely to top the 120 episodes of the 1960s "Batman" next season.

http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117936819

Basically, it's SV's broad appeal. SV's fanship reaches more than just comicbook aficionados. To pigeon hole all 6 million or so viewers into such a small demographic would be like saying the only people that watched Buffy were vampire fans.

<- hated Buffy. :O

I will be very shocked if this movie bombs this year, I doubt it, but I would be shocked and it would probably be the biggest surprise in box office history if it did. Also if it did, I think the chances of any new Superman movie would be put on the back burner for a few years.

Actually Steven S. DeKnight and Drew Z Greenberg are the only writers from Buffy to work on Smallville as of late. Greenberg left and DeKnight is still a staff writer. The rest of Buffy's writers are on NBC shows or Gilmore Girls. But several of them actually are working on Lost. The big difference here is Whedon. He wrote a majority of the episodes and if he didnt he had a major hand in the story. Sorry but Gough and Millar are certainly no Whedon.

But as for posting excerpts to encourage slamming? Well then just dont do it. I dont quite understand a lot of peoples mentality these days. It's either Superman Returns or Smallville. No one can seem to agree to like both. But also no one can seem to stray into each forum without trashing the other or speaking poorly about the production. However when someone posts critically about either production it's because they are just bitter. There seems to be a lemming effect going on in all of these forums.

By the way Pat I wasnt trying to be critical of you. Just giving contrasting opinion. If you know of other writers from Buffy on Smallville I'm not trying to argue that. :)

If they get some hardcore trailers out, that even the non-loving comic book fan will find breathtaking, it'll attract 1000's of viewers that wasn't planning on going.. It also depends on how exstreme they are willing to go with the marketing campaign.. if they make this movie (through the PR) up to be the wildest movie experience ever, then it doesn't matter weather or not you're a fan of superman, cause even the scepticals will go see it just for the heck of it... Then if the movie truely rocks, the word will be spread, and then things could really head up...
I wonder what they're planning for the PR for this movie...Singer says it's huge! The S sield will be everywhere... I heard a while back, something about a huge S-shield-statue, spinning on a platform would be in every theater when aproaching the release.. this is gonna be way awesome!

I thought they were simply shown the teaser one, which was hanging in Singer's office. They say something like "yes, the teaser poster is real". I hope it isn't the real one. I want a nice Superman 1-esque poster of him flying past the city or something.

Maybe I misunderstood but I thought it was a new poster.

We all thought that he was going to show us some drawings; after all, he had brought in a mock-up of the new Superman Returns poster just as we finished the interview. We followed him, our hearts thumping and not saying anything, as he led us into the room where we first heard the theme song come out of.Source: http://star-ecentral.com/news/story.asp?file=/2006/2/24/movies/13460846&sec=movies

I am glad that the Superman Returns Campaign is NOTHING the Batman Begins one. With Batman Begins they showed so much so soon & also when the time came Marketing was basically non existent AFTER the Movie came out. Particuarly with the TV Spots. They stopped airing them completely AFTER the Movie came out when that s the time they should be airing NON STOP. I am glad in the long run that WB is doing it like this, They are LEARNING from their Batman Begins MISTAKES. That is the way I see it. Batman Begins had MUCH MORE against that Movie then Superman Returns does. Especially with the last 2 Batman Movies.

With Icahn issuing a blistering report against TW a while back and his criticism of the waste in the movie division he has suits at WB running scared. So a part of the non-existent marketing so far is probably due to a cutback in the marketing budget. Right now WB would be scared to throw another 50 million into the film. Especially is Icahn gets control of the board. Jobs could be on the line.

I'm sure hype would know something by now...considering nothing has been said... well draw your own conclusions.this is also what i have been thinking. there is no way that this trailer would pup up from nowhere. they will promote the realese of the trailer like they did with star wars and if i remember batman.

I think that what we saw in the teaser will be extended in the movie and we will see a close up of him floating through the sky, possibly taking a flight and pondering what to do next. Then maybe a disaster hits!

I think you are probably right. That would be great to see him just flying around then up above the clouds. I also like the idea someone had, of him having to fly back up there to recharge being closer to the sun.

I sensed much fear in you..but i knew the darkside hadn't taken you fully.this movie is the reason i am back. you have to be on the lightside to enjoy this master piece.

because i can feel that this movie will be good because of that i want to see some new stuff. i dont want to watch every traielr and every tv-spot. i only want to watch this theatrical final trailer. thats the reason why i can not wait.
international trailers,tv-spots and tv-shows show to much of the good scenes. and i am that knd of guy who will watch this stuff on the net 100 times. and if i watch all tv-spots and trailer than it will be boring for me in the thater. and because i know what kind of a person i am i will nto watch other stuff.

But its good in a way that not much has been released, nothing has been revealed yet really, so its going to make the movie and even the trailer that much better.

i dont want to compare batman begins with SR. but was not the second poster realesed at the end of april? i think they will realese the new poster with the trailer.

p.s. someone said that on the posters behind singer it says only ''returns''.that would mean than that it is a second teaser poster.

so i am expecting the final poster in may/june.
