Comic-based only. I wonder how many votes Halle Berry will get?
Besides mine of course.

You're a thorough guy, Wallace - thorough guy.

The Question
12-02-2005, 04:23 PM
I'd say, Ben Afleck's Daredevil in Daredevil. He wasn't horrible, but he wasn't as good as the others (although his day to day Matt Murdock was great).

Every performance in B&R besides Michael Gough's. :o

War Lord

John Travolta in the Punisher.

A gang leader should be a little tougher than whiny.

The only performance in DD I really didn't like was Elektra's dad. That actor is just annoying looking anyway. But I really didn't like the movie

I'd say, starting at the top:

Toad in X-Men
Aunt May in both Spider-Man movies.
Bruce Banner in Hulk (he looks subtely retarded to me, the guy, not Hulk)
Nomak in Blade 2
Vinnie Barbarino in the Punisher
Drake in Blade 3 (I actually liked both Reynolds + Biel, I know I'm in the minority)
Henri Ducard/Ra's Al Ghul in Batman Begins
Dr. Doom in FF (cliche/bandwagon to not like him, but I suppose against the majority to like the movie)

The Question

The sad thing is, McMahon would have made a great Doom if he had been given better material. He can play sadistic ******* very well.

I liked the Phantom Menace, but that Jake Lloyd stunk worse than day-old Gungan.

That's not what he said.

Did you read my opening post?

Marvel:
Kirsten as Mary Jane
Tobey as Spider-man
Ben as Daredevil--not bad, but, meh some else should of been DD imo
Anna as Rouge in X-men 1
Travolta in Punisher
That dude that played Iceman
Garner as Eleckra
Dafoe as Green Goblin..actually it was the costume fault and a few bad lines.
McMahon as Dr. Doom
Alba as Sue Storm

DC:
Everyone in Batman & Robin
Tommy lee Jones as Two Face
Jim Carrey as Riddler
Katie Holmes as Racheal
Hackman as Lex--way too campy for my taste though he did have a few good lines
Kidder as Lois when she's in front of Superman in S:TM
Lex's henchman and woman in S:TM

Whoops, my bad. Okay, then, Rob Schneider in Judge Dredd. Totally unnecessary comic relief.

I think alot of people are confusing "casting" with "performance". I don't like Halle Berry as Storm, nor did I like the way the script portrayed the character, but Halle's performance as Storm was good and believable. Bad performances are where you can tell they're acting.

Ignore the unaccurate portrayal in the script, was the performance believable? Was there a point where you accepted this character as a fully realized person (in the world created in the film)?

Judging performance means judging acting ability, something that Halle Berry has quite a bit of.

Chris Wallace

Not necessarily; a lot of the time you just didn't believe Halle was Storm. Likewise w/Kirsten. The only time I really bought her as MJ was when she was playing off of Tobey.

SuperFerret

Just to clarify: I meant "Storm" as the Storm presented in the movies, not the comic book one.

If you still disagree with me, fine. I can respect that.

She was inconsistent, IMO. Her shining moment was in the first one when she was trying to convince Logan to stay. And she was really good in some of the deleted scenes. Apart from that, her accent kept slipping & she only had the swagger & demeanor down when in costume. In the second one she was just there. Storm is my favorite of the X-Men & I don't feel she's been done justice. But maybe-just maybe-she'll turn it around in X3.

Iiii don't know...
I usually blame only the writing and direction…

I truly hate Uma Thurman in B&R. I've never read any Poison Ivy issues, so maybe she was playing it right, but it just came across as too Mae West-ian. I kept waiting for her to say, "Come up and see me sometime, big boy."

But I agree basically with Spider-X-Treme. The main problem with B&R is the overall direction they decided to take that film. It's hard to blame Thurman or Arnold when that's the way they were told to be.

But this thread is entitled "Performances you didn't like in movies that you did". Unless you actually liked "Batman & Robin", apart from Uma's hammy performance, then it doesn't qualify. Neither does writng & direction.

Selma Blair in Hellboy. See is an awful actress that I wish would go away.

Chris Wallace

Really? The only time I found her truly annoying was in "Cruel Intentions". But then again, I haven't seen her in that many movies.

Selma Blair has done some really good work outside of mainstream movies. I thought she was decent in Hellboy.

Both Dunst and McGuire were lackluster in Spider-Man. Dunst came off as generic, and McGuire played Peter like a stalker, thus the entire romance angle felt incredibly forced. I mean honestly, some of it was poor dialouge, but MJ seeing Peter as anything but creepy in many of their scenes together felt totally unbeleivable, and Dunst didn't help by playing it without any real emotion. Spider-Man 2's script was much better in terms of character relationships and I felt both actors improved.

Tom Wilkinson as Carmine Falcone, I just didn't believe in him as a gangsta. He didn't look Italian, he didn't sound Italian and I just think it was a poorly cast role.

I have to agree with Kirsten as MJ just not believable to me at all.
Actually everybody in FF except for the guy who played Johnny Storm and Chiklis as Thing.
Katie Holmes in Batman Begins.
