Well hi, im new here (from Spain, sorry my english hehe). This is not really exactly about Xmen 3, but is a purpose to comment what actors/actresses would have you chosen to make the movies instead the actual ones. I´ve made several substitutions i´d consider better to be more similar to the original comic characters. I also added actors for characters that actually don´t appear in the movies bt we also would love to. What do you think about? :)
MAGNETO (Sean Bean)

STORM (Angela Basset)

Well, Sean is 17 April (http://www.imdb.com/OnThisDay?day=17&month=April) 1959 (http://www.imdb.com/BornInYear?1959), i dont remember the age of Magneto in comics, but i think the actual magneto in the movie is too old and physically weak. If you think Sean needs a litle older face is easy to do that with Makeup as always. ;)
When i search for actors here i try to match their natural faces and facial features with their Relative comic characters. :)

Here i go with another 2. Wolverine and Charles Xavier
WOLVERINE (Nick Chinlund)
http://img466.imageshack.us/img466/1577/lobeznoalternativonickc2ey.jpg
CHARLES XAVIER (Yul Brynner) I know he is dead lol, but is so cool to be the professor Xavier.

I have no idea who that Chinlund guy is, but what you may not know is that Xavier was originally based off of Yul.

Chinlund could be seen for example in The Chronicles of Riddick, is the bountyhunter that pursues Riddick. You can also see him in Denzel Washington´s Training Day. I didnt know the Yul / Xavier thing, is cool to know that, now i understand the great face similarity, thanks :)

if I had to choose one character to change actor, it'd be Juggernaut. not because Vinnie Jones is a particularly bad choice, but because I'd probably pee my pants in excitement at seeing Ray Stevenson as Juggs.

Zaxon, genius ideas. Sean Bean looks great as Magneto. Sure, he would be too young but the comics have never really portrayed him as an aged man, he's like a silver haired Stallone in those pics.
Wasn't Angela Bassett originally tipped to be Storm? She would have been so much better.

I liked the casting, other than Halle Berry and Anna Paquin. It's not really Anna Paquin herself that I don't like; it's more the Rogue character in the movie in general.
That Yul brunner guy (first time i've heard of him--shows my age) looks exactly like Xavier even down to the arched eyebrows.

i know this is off topic, but i forgot who they had play Gambits cameo in the bar scene of X2, but i think Stephen Dorff would be a good fit.
He was in Blade as Deacon Frost...and they actually gave him red eyes
I could actually see that if they were playing Magneto as unrealistically young.
In the comic books a couple decades into publishing the stories the character got a new, relatively young body. He was de-aged to a little boy and then re-aged to a man in his late prime.
So if they wrote some parallel same end-result storyline or jsut reference to that in the movieverse they could go with a plenty younger actor than Ian McKellan, someone decades older than the character was ever physically drawn as looking.
My alternative cast would be:
X-Men (2000)
Professor X: Billy Zane
Magneto: Daniel Day-Lewis
http://img456.imageshack.us/img456/921/billyzddlxmen6mt.jpg
Storm: Tyra Banks

Cyclops: Vince Vaughn

Jean Grey: Jennifer Connelly

Wolverine: Joe Rogan

Nightcrawler: James Franco

Rogue: Mandy Moore (not introduced till the 2nd or 3rd film in my franchise)
http://img398.imageshack.us/img398/4140/mmrogue13dn.jpg
Shadowcat: Emmy Rossum

I like the idea of Mandy Moore as Rogue, because she's pretty hot, but as far as seeing her play the role i dont think she has the "skills" to do it. She's not that great of an actress. :xmen:
Sean Bean would be a nice alternative for Magneto, along with Nick Chinlund for Wolverine.

She is plenty good enough an actress. She pretty consistantly gets good reviews as an actress. She's just had too high a ratio of too light, too lame chick flick movies. Movies that obviously are on the other side of the spectrum from X-Men.

THANK YOU. Some people insult me for this idea. They've probably gotten used to "leading man Wolverine".

I've got to admit, it's impossible that my pick for Juggernaut, Nathan Jones (Troy), is as good an actor as Ray (Titus Pullio) Stevenson. That guy rules.
Although maybe I can have my cake and eat it too in suggesting Nathan for Juggernaut and Ray for Beast, if both can successfully affect an American accent.

Ray as Beast? That would be so bizarre... I would love to see Ray Stevenson play some role though. He's brilliant, I adore him.
Since I'm thinking about "Rome" now, James Purefoy reminds me of Hugh Jackman for some reason. He wouldn't make a bad Wolverine (I've never been hung up on the height issue where he's concerned). Not that I'd ever want anyone other than Jackman --who nails the character perfectly IMO-- I'm just throwing alternative ideas around for fun.
Hmmm... Keira Knightley as Rogue. Jensen Ackles as Angel. Angela Bassett as Storm. I like the idea of Emmy Rossum as Kitty, if I were casting her older. I still think Josh Holloway would be perfect for Gambit.
Who would y'all cast as Iceman? If you were casting him closer to the comic's version?

Good nightcrawler choice someone do a manip of Adrien as kurt I have to se it, Also good choice for the professor.
Philip Seymour Hoffman could only play Beast if he was completely computer generated. He's pretty predisposed to having a massively unathletic body and his face doesn't quite match up either. Ian McKellan is a bit too feeble for magneto but compared to Christopher Lee he's freaking Mr. Universe. Brody could work because he's basically got sharp features and is a very good actor. I just think James Franco is worlds closer to Nightcrawlers usual appearance and age in the 70's/80's drawings of him in Uncanny.

I like Pearlman better as Cable than a Sabertooth.
^ he is entirely too ugly to play Cable. The guy is the son of Scott Summers (played at acurate handsomeness level by James Marsden) and Madelyn Prior, a clone of Jean Grey(played at almost acurate gorgeousness level by Famke Janssen). So not only is he too ugly based on comic book canon (in which Cable was standard movie guy handsome, just weathered) it's illogical to non comic readers based on the films characters looks.

Does anyone reckon Josh Holloway would be pretty nice playing Gambit? In LOST, he has the hair do. Give em nice red eyes, keep the stubble and give im a red bandana! Well, kinda. But I think he'd do nicely as a Gambit.
EDIT: Actually, has anyone watched the X-Men:EVO DVD's? On one disc, it shows you the voice actors with such greats as Scott McNeil, but the woman that voices Rogue looks perfect!

I don't want an Appalachian accent Gambit and I'd also prefer one who doesn't overact 90 percent of the time. Which for me rules Holloway out twice. He can't do accents other than his own and he's neck and neck with the kid who plays Walt for worst actor on that show.

Malcom would be an interesting choice, definently looks like Bishop.. Bishop is a badass though and Malcom has a pretty soft voice.. hes a good actor though and he could definently pull off Bishop.
Malcom Jamal Warner is just washed up and annoying. The few times I've seen him on anything interviewed or whatever in the last couple years he doesn't ever get off this pretentious blabbering pedistal. He thinks because he was on the Cosby show that he's a social hero or something.
He doesn't look like Bishop. He has long hair and facial hair. That's it. He looks like what you get if Theo ever got old and became a punchline.

Wow! Some of these are really good choices I never would've thought of myself. Adrien Brody as Nightcrawler and Ben Kingsley as Prof. X -- love it. I only have one idea to add (sorry if someone already said it), but how about Eric Bana for Wolverine? (He played Hector in the movie Troy and "Hoot" in Black Hawk Down) And though I would never seriously consider replacing Hugh Jackman, don't you think it might be nice to pass the role on to a fellow Australian? lol

The accent is as far enough away as you can get within America and Matthew is McCrapehey when it comes to talking in any other way than his own Texas redneckese. He doesn't look like Gambit and he doesn't take character parts for reduced pay (atleast not unless it's some oscar bait he can take or something). All he cares about is cashing those 8 figure checks for increasingly awful movies he keeps crapping out these days.
It really doesn't matter about geographic proximity of where a person was born when it comes to accents when they're still different accents.

True... and even though the sarcastic target of my offhand comment was compeltely incorrect, I still manage to think it's very funny, simply because of the irony it points out. If you hadn't mixed your correction with so much hate for the actor, it would be funny too. :)

Storm also isn't middle aged, even after 40 years of comics. Bassett's body really isn't all that great, despite what some annoying tabloid magazine editors/VH1 producers and the cretins that patronize those things probably would have you believe. Pretty standard gym-going-mom-type-desperately trying-to-hang-on-to-anything body.
Angela Bassett simply doesn't look anything close to idealized unless you want to pretend she does. Halle Berry does, and is in the same range of acting skill as Bassett, who again doesn't even look like she comes from the same species in comparison.

Gaye has never been held up to any of the same critical scrutiny as Berry nor has she ever had any lead roles I know of.
Say what you want to say, but Berry hasn't built her huge career from humble beginnings on stellar looks alone. Without nepotism or implants, and with plenty of challenging lead roles in addition to challenging character parts.

Halle fan I take it?
I have no real problem with Halle's acting abilities. But let's be honest, she doesn't fit the role of Storm. Arguably if her character were written closer to the comic Storm she could possibly pull it off....but she just isn't storm. Angela/Nona Bassett/Gaye look the part of an African goddess. I can see Angela or Nona grabbing Hugh by the front of his shirt and telling him he will help her rather than do his lonewolf routine (Silvestri run I believe).
I really liked Sean Bean as Magneto. If they were to ever do a prequel and show Magneto in his younger days, Sean would would do fine.
Angela Bassett and Nona Gaye would both have been stronger as actresses for Storm but for looks alone, the model Iman (David Bowie's wife) would have been perfect. There's a certain regal quality to Storm and Iman has striking looks that would have carried that well. Plus she's got a cool accent that would have been perfect for Storm.

 I wouldn't say she can't act!!! Catwoman was a terrible movie all together, you can't blame her for making a bad career movie!!! Besides Catwoman and her portrayl of Storm in the first 2 movies. I think Halle's acting has been very consistent.

Well I can argue against all of that that and only have to point out a single movie (although I can point out many other examples) .
Reign of Fire.
Matthew McConaughey was in that and there was no chance in hell of getting an Oscar (along with many movies he has been in).
Also accent does not mean much to an actor. Even with a mediocre actor, they can go to voice coaches to get what ever they want/need. Hell in the same movie you have an English guy with a pronounced English accent who ended up playing :batman: .
Christian Bale… you may have heard of him. ;)
As far as his "look" ... he is a semi-well built white dude. Don't need much more than that. You can make people look how ever you want on film. I mean, he looked way different in Reign of Fire from the posted pic, than he has in any other movie... hair and makeup can do a lot... seen White Chicks?

They should do alternate future X-men film with all these other actors and have The Age of Apocalypse or something. I would not mind, different reality different actors. More X-men films would be great. No replacements there just alternate future. Good idea or a waste. Might be good if X-3 is the last film.

WOW! A lot of these choices are right on the money! Mandy Moore isn't that great a choice but hey anything is pretty much better than the loser playing Rogue now! My choice for Rogue is Kate Beckinsale! She looks like her, is the same height, can speak french, can play a kick-ass girl, can be flirty, and can be emotional, etc. All she needs is green eye contacts, a white streak in her hair, and the outfit and there is a very good if not perfect Rogue! She looked very much like her in Van Hellsing! Can someone post pics of her next to Rogue?

I can see it.
Kate Beckinsale wishes. She's uber-average, by show biz standards anyway.
Just due to her:
* Smokey voice (not that dissimilar from the animated series voice)
* Green eyes
* acting credibility
* fact that she was 17 at the time they filmed the second movie (the part of the franchise they should have introduced Rogue in ideally)
Scarlett Johansson would have made a really strong choice for Rogue. She looks better with light hair than dark/brown hair so they'd just have to make the white streak more prominent than they did in the movies thus far.

I was going mostly by outer looks, since the ugly thing playing Rogue now is soooo far from what Rogue really looks like. I haven't seen Kate in more than 2 movies so I don't know how she is exactly with acting. Scarlett I can't picture as Rogue. Can someone manipulate a pic of her so she looks like Rogue(like that person did with Mandy Moore?), then I'll give you an answer.
Rogue was supposed to be a teenager when she joined the team, that's one thing the movies did get right about her. Kate Beckinsale is overrated in every department including especially looks. She dolls herself up with a ton of hair and makeup specialists and has "enhanced" herself with the worst pair of implants outside of a turnpike strip club, but that doesn't make her a true beauty. She's got that ape space between her nose and lip, boring-ass plain eyes, rabbit teeth, and unspectacular overall body shape and skin.

Hullo, first post here, though I've been following X-Men message boards all over for a while :xmen: .
I've always wondered what it would have been like if we were able to cast the X-Men the way we wanted. I like a lot of the suggested actors you guys have posted, and was pleasantly surprised (as in "Hey, why not?") at some choices - like Rutger Hauer or Daniel Day-Lewis as Magneto, for instance.
My personal beef, however, is with Storm. Halle Berry is objectively an attractive woman, but imho she was all wrong for the part.
We've gotten all the way to X-3 and my grouse is that I still have to see her onscreen mangling one of my favorite X-Men characters of all time.
Oh, well...maybe in one of the multiverses...like below:

Cliché I know, but Angela Bassett all the way for Storm. She has the regalness and stature that I expected from her character in the movies, but she was sadly lacking.
Like Baredevil said, I have nothing against Halle Berry, she was just not right for the role at all.
Cliché I know, but Angela Bassett all the way for Storm. She has the regalness and stature that I expected from her character in the movies, but she was sadly lacking.
Naw, being shorter than Wolverine would have been bad enough, without being shorter that ROGUE!!

Yul Brynner was actually the inspiration of Professor X as far as looks goes, and I'm sure his onscreen persona played a part as well.

He comes from the Carradine acting family. David Carradine, Keith's half brother is the guy from Kill Bill and Kung Fu. His brother Robert is from Revenge of the Nerds and I think he was on some Nickelodeon show. His dad John was in very old Horror movies I think.
I only know Keith from some Altman movies in the 70's.

Here's my recast for the current series. I had a pretty hard time coming up with some good picks of my own, so the majority of them are picks that some other users came up with that I really liked. I couldn't come up with all of them, just the ones of the most prominence in the three films (I couldn't come up with a good pick for Pyro, though.)
Professor X - John Malkovich

Wolverine - Billy Crudup

I was just wondering, apart from the photo posted in this forum, where I admit Nona Gaye looks really amazing (and I suppose everyone here who saw the pic, praises her for her "acting" talents right??) did you check her out in Matrix 2 & 3??
I did and wasn't impressed either by her performance or looks (heck- Jada Pinkett-Smith was far better)
Also, please get over the whole Angela Bassett as Storm thing-she was the first choice and turned down the part-end of story
Just to clarify, I am not a Halle Berry fan but she is really hot, so is Storm and I am fine with that. Personnally I think the X-men movies had the BEST casting choices of any other comic book movie
I always wondered who would take the part of Emma Frost (I remember hearing a rumour that there was an early X3 draft who included her and they wanted Sigourney Weaver for the part!!
How about Sienna Miller? (I also thought of Sharon Stone in the 90's)
^ I don't know if Sienna Miller can do an American accent, and I don't want Emma Frost to be/sound British. Despite some peoples claim an X-Men writer once wrote she faked some Posh accent it's just dumb and would weaken the character. We have enough English accents on characters who shouldn't have them in this franchise already. People from Massachusetts just don't sound British, and neither do people from 40 miles north of NYC, or people who moved to any part of America from Poland 60 years ago.
Sienna would make a good Psylocke though. Too bad we already have some nobody playing her already Asian.

Scarlett would have been a million times Better for Rogue than Anna Paquin, particularly if they waited to introduced Rogue till the second or third film, and didn't re-imagine Rogue as some Rogitty hybrid who never gets the powers she always had as an X-Man. Not only was Rogue known for her green eyes, she was probably more than any other main X-girl known for her s**t brick house body, and atleast since the animated series, thought of as having an attractive raspy voice. The perfect full lips don't hurt either. Scarlett's natural hair is brown but you could still achieve some of her light-haired ideal look if you had an amount of white hair on Rogue closer to what the character posessed in the comics. Not that I'm for ever having Rogue wear a spandex or Lycra uniform (atleast not for her main mission uniform, perhaps a training one though) but this (BELOW) body is a hellof alot closer to what one thinks of Rogue being drawn as. Anna Paquin is just dumpy. She looked ok in a belly shirt in 25th Hour, but that's about the closest she's ever come to looking better than average for a late teen/20 something.

I hadn't thought of Scarlett Johansson as Rogue, but I think it could work! Especially when you look at her with brown hair, she'd be able to pull off the sexy voice and she's got the body! However, I don't think they'd be able to get Scarlett to do X-Men...
