MSG thanks for answering my questions before. Here's some more:

1) Were you ever even approached to make a Daredevil Sequel by Fox? Has there been any talk about it in your circles with or without Affleck.

2) With the long wait...Are you going to be doing any test screenings early to get some more feedback. You have plenty of time to add footage, do reshoots, etc...if needed.

3) Sorry if this has already been asked: What's the approximate running time of Ghost Rider? 1.5 hours, 2 hours, 2+ hours?

4) Just a fan curious question. Say Nic Cage chose not to do Ghost Rider or couldn't do it with his schedule...what other names were on the list to play Ghost Rider? Were there any back ups?

Mr Nick

Q: Did you ever consider keeping Ghost Rider himself under wraps right until the movie came out?

What exactly is Sony expecting from this film in terms gross? I'm curious because it's been move to febuary and also the budget numbers being thrown out range from 50-100 mil. Also considering the fact that Constantine which is a similar movie did pretty well in nearly the same spot but that only manage to garner 75 mil, and Hellboy only did about 60 mil so the question is, what exactly are Sony's expectations for this film?

Also this is your second superhero film, and it's also the second time you casted a well-known actor. This seems to fly in the face of what has now become the formula for super-hero films which is cast unknowns. I was wondering did this happen to fall like that or is it easier working with seasoned actors?

Hi Mark, thanks for answering all the questions my fellow hypsters have been asking, it is a great thing for the director of an upcoming super-hero flick to answer the questions of his fans on a constant basis.

I have two questions, one about DD and one about Ghost Rider:

1. I'm not sure if you've been asked this, you probably have, but who besides Affleck and Farrell did you have in mind for DD and Bullseye?

2. You've stated that GR is like a "gothic western", is there any way to describe that a little more detailed so we can get a feel for the movie?

Thank you.

Edd.

I loved Daredevil. The theatrical cut was cool, but the Director's Cut was even better.

You have a great visual style and when it came to DD, you just really got him perfect.

Don't take the criticism of DD or the skepticism of Ghost Rider too hard. You DO have a lot of fans and supporters out there, like me. And I know Ghost Rider is going to be a great comic-book movie

Ditto. I thoroughly enjoyed Daredevil. I think Avi Arad/Marvel knows that MSJ is an exceptional talent. With Marvel making their own slate of films now, don't be surprised to see other Marvel characters soon on MSJ's plate.

Daredevil made too much money to ignore long-term. Fox may want to let the anti-Affleck buzz die down but if they fail to act, the Daredevil rights will eventually revert back to Marvel. Then, you'll see a DD2 with them (and hopefully MSJ) in full control. So, saying we'll never see a DD2 is wrong. It just may take a while.

I'm a huge Marvel fan but know very little about Ghost Rider. When he wasn't running around with The Champions or in a mainstream book, I can't say I followed the character. Even so, MSJ has done his job here because I'm officially jacked for this movie.

Marvel needs to start production on their new slate soon. Cap will be first up in 2008. Can you say... Captain America, a film by Mark Steven Johnson?

1. Will the release date change have any effect on the rating, or is PG-13 still the official? And if so, is the usual unrated DVD gig gonna happen and would it be any different than the theatrical release as the DareDevil DVD was?

2. How long into the movie until Blaze actually becomes The Rider and will he have more screentime than Blaze? I'm always one for cutting straight to the chase, but understand the need for intros and such for the plot and story explanations.

Wicked job on the reveal, too. Some excellent drops of blood for us very hungry sharks.

Hi Mark, I was wondering if the new short with no sound was shot outside the Little Lonsdale Street garage set? The door in the background on the right looked real familar. MSJ,

For Ghost Rider 2 (putting studio rights aside for a moment) do you see any cross over potential for Ghost Rider, or any other semi-popular Marvel characters making a cameo or having a small role? Dr. Strange? Punisher? Adam Warlock? I think it'd be great to see Ghost Rider going after a baddie and crossing paths with the Punisher. They're both on separate missions they bump into one another...they look at each other briefly, Ghost Rider would nod his head in approval, then they'd keep going on their own path.

Not that it would happen but I'd actually think it'd be quite cool. Sony and LGF did work together on Punisher at least for International distribution. :)

I'm a huge Punisher fan, so that would be badass. If you think about it, they have basically the same vendetta when it comes to ridding the earth of scum. Makes me think of the Wolverine/Punisher thing they did not too long ago.

MSJ I have a few questions but before, I want to say that I loved DD and b/c of that I can't wait for GR! The lil clip looks awesome! Anyways....

1. Is there any progression with DD2? If so will u be introducing a new villian or with the Kingpin and good ol Bullseye be back (or both possiblities).

2. I personally haven't read many GR comics, but b/c u r directing, I have been into the movie. Is there anything inperticular (spelling) that I should read? I no Barnes and Nobles has the Essentials to GR, but is that all? The DD movie got me into reading DD and Elektra and now I really want to read GR, so...

3. Finally. Have you ever thought about making and Elektra film? U wrote and directed her soooo well in DD and a lot of ppl are saying that u should direct a sequel or a kind of revamp like Batman Begins for her in a few years. Possibility?

Uhmmm in the Ghost Rider/Punisher crossover actually there was some grudge about GR serving vengeance whereas Punisher serving death...and GR quite owned him, but they did get along quite well...

Hiho Mr. Johnson!

I also have a few questions for you. Sorry if they were asked before! Here we go:

1. Im not really familiar with the GR comics at all, but I would like to know if there is any portrayal of hell itself and how different it is from other movies like "Constantine" and films like that?

2. So, this movie is very rich in FX stuff and has a big budget. But GR isn`t as well-known as other Marvel characters, such as Spider-Man or X-Men for example. And this will be the first movie in a possible series. Do you think that this could be a disadvantage at the boxoffice? Will there be a huge marketing campagne for the film?

3. Now this is dark and gritty material with all the hell stuff and a kind of "Bounty Hunter" in the lead. It is a huge movie, but I heard that it will stay true to the spirit of the comics, so is there any chance that it will be rated R?

4. Will there be any backstory in the movie around the Medallion, Zarathos and Mephisto through flashbacks? And will Noble Kale, Badilino or John`s brother Daniel play any role in this or in future GR films probably?

5. Which part was intended for Jon Voight before he left the project?

I wish you all the best and I hope that Ghost Rider will rock :ghost:

Ok that was it. Thanks in advance!

Since the other thread was so long and MSJ already answered a lot of the questions in his newest post, here's another thread.

Sir,

In the comice Blaze and Danny Ketch ended up becoming "partners" of a sort, and although I don't remember it being resolved, it was hinted there were originally 4 Ghost Riders on flaming horses. Will this movie (or a sequel) cover these other GRs, and will Dan Ketch make an appearance?

Thanks for the time, looking forward to GR more than any other film!

These are questions that people posted in part 3 after MSJ last responded.

I have anfew question for MSJ .

BEfore i continue , i'll say this. It's great to have a director who respects the fans and actually talks with them. So kudos to you MSJ , YOU ROCK !

Anyhoo back to my questions

1 How fill the fighting style of Ghost Rider BE ?
Will be raw and hardcore or more stylised like martial arts . If you're going for raw , please MSJ. No nausea inducing MTV editing.......

2 For the sake of coolness , will you try to do impossible things with Ghost Rider or are you keeping the action more grounded to reality.
For example riding a bike verticallly and climbing a building

3 Was it you're choice to go more for a rock soundtrack then a traditional score . And would you also have included techno songs ?

4 I know that fire is one of the more difficult things to create in VFX.
But how will the fire look ? Will it be more in the lines of balrog creature in the fellowship of the ring , the storm in fantastic four ( didn't sony image works to do the fire effects on Johnny  ) or like liquid fire ( the matrix reloaded)

5 Finally. Do you think that with the movie being pushed back to 2007 , it'll be better for the VFX schedule. I often get the impression that reason why the budget of many big VFX movies are so high is due to the fact that the VFX companies have to deliver their shots in a short while. You see that movies who take a longer time to work on their effects , tend to produce better results

Dear Mr. MSJ,

I am a big fan and I am looking very much forward to Ghost Rider.:ghost:

But I have only one question: Is Daredevil 2 going to be made and will you direct?

I speak on the behalf of the many, many Daredevil fans who have been left with their ***** hanging for a long time, and I figured if anyone can give us a straight answer it'd be you.

I anticipate your reply.

Yours Sincerly DarkMurdock

I know this is the Ask MJ thread but I figured his answers in another forum should go here:

Director Talks Ghost Rider Transformation

How do you get Nicolas Cage to look like a demonically possessed hell rider?

Ghost Rider director Mark Steven Johnson explained how star Nicolas Cage transforms into the spectral biker.

"We film Nic or his double, dressed as the Ghost Rider, with the spikes, chains, leather and everything on him. But he wears an interactive light collar around his neck, sometimes a whole green helmet, and that's what we're going to be removing," Johnson told Comics Continuum. "So it is the person, it is the actor, but the head itself is CG. And that was our biggest challenge, making sure it looks absolutely fantastic.

"And being able to use fire as a way to give expression, which you can't with a skull. You take the shadows of the fire and the way the fire moves to give expressions and moods, which is really great because you can't get that in the comic. You can see it change before your eyes.

"When Ghost Rider's angry, he'll go white-hot with flame. When he gets sad, it will literally go blue. There's a way you can use the fire as an extension of his personality," Johnson said.

I'll likely clean this thread up a bit when I get time... or am bored. There are a lot of questions asked that have already been asked in previous threads.

Dont' hold your breath on that cleanup though. Until Jan 23rd I'm going to be a busy man. Not to busy to post here of course.

Will the original Ghost Rider be incorporated? Y'know, that guy who dressed in white and rode a horse. In fact, will we see any previous form of Ghost Rider (like a Clint Eastwood GR from the Old West)?

Thanks a bunch.

They did that sort of thing with stickies on the Blade Trinity boards with Goyer, Snipes, Reynolds and Biels all having they're own thread. Id would be nice (wink wink) if maybe we could ask some questions directed at Nic Cage and maybe MSJ could print them out and hand them to Cage at the premiere in an envelope.

Lock the other thread and when MSJ is done here, re-open it. It's the only thing that makes sense.

Hey Mark... I'll keep this short and to the point. Here are the things that went wrong with Daredevil (please note I truly enjoyed the film and loved the director's cut), and should be avoided for Ghost Rider:

1. effects: unfortunately some shots in DD play out like a video game... if you can't pull it off properly due to time and/or budget don't do it... you're a film maker, there are work arounds that can be just as effective.

2. story: without a story (or extensive visual vocabulary for that matter) you're left with something that has as much personality as a car commercial. Your director's cut truly added substance to your picture so I am sure you'll never let another project of yours be butchered again.

3. music: ouch. DD's soundtrack hurt. Sure some may say that certain songs were top forty hits and broke bands out and so forth, but use it sparringly not as a narrative piece. Scores are timeless. What gives an audience goosebumps still, Danny Elfman's score to Batman or 'Batdance' by Prince? Of course certain scenes like the biker bar need songs, but Elektra's training scene might feel like it is being dumbed down in time.

So that's it - you are a talented guy and your heart is in the right place so I am sure you'll do GR justice. Just wanted to give you my two cents.

Halloween is unlikey now especially with today's news. Marvel just signed a huge agreement with Hasbro to make all of it's toys starting in 2007. This gives Marvel huge exposure worldwide which Toy Biz could not provide and Marvel will surely want Ghost Rider to be part of this. See General movies section for this info under Marvel films.

Unless I'm reading the news wrong. I think Hasbro fully takes over in 2007 and Ghost Rider is from what I understand going to have a great toy line.

What i am trying to say is that we have a helluva lot more than say, x-men. and that is coming out in a few months.....we should relish in what we have

now, would i like more information: sure, but for now i am happy with what he was nice enough to go out of his way to give us. no rush...i think the other boards are so hostile because they dont have faith in the other movies.....we as Ghost Rider fans have faith....we know, with what we have seen so far, that it will turn out great.....you dont really want it spoiled right away...do you? how long have we waited for The Rider to ride on the silver screen? what is a few more months??

^ I'm not MSJ but I can tell you that if he's completed with Ghost Rider then he can of course start on other projects. Directors often have 2 films released in a year and I've seen some come out only a few weeks apart by the same director. I think one year John McTiernan had 2 films in the same 3 weeks time frame. It's common to have directors already filming new projects before their last one is on the big screen. Of course when the movie does come out he'll be back here online since he's such a nice guy. :)

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I didn't see it anywhere. I know the movie is a mixture of the Blaze and Ketch stories, but I was wondering if there are any shots in the movie that are directly taken from the comics. I know the scene in Spiderman 2 where he throws the costume in the trash is pretty much framed just like it is in the comics. And obviously Sin City was all shot using the comics as storyboards. So, without giving too much away, can we expect any shots from the comics?

1. Will Blaze's 1st change into GR be as an older man (Cage) or will you infer that Blaze has been GR before when he was younger?
2. Any possibility that in the flashback scene involving a young Johnny Blaze that he might be wearing something similar to the classic 70's "blue" leather jumpsuit?
3. Any news if the video game is still planned to be released at the same time w/ the movie?
4. Also Toy Biz will no longer be producing Marvel characters after 2006 w/ Hasbro taking up the job for 2007 and beyond. Do you know if the sculpted Toy Biz line will be used by Hasbro or will they start over w/ a line of their own?

Okay, I had way to much time on my hands today and far too much energy to spare. I've gone ahead and cleaned the thread up, seperating unanswered questions and answered ones. Hopefully this'll help MSJ if he ever finds the time to get back here.

These are the answered ones. The next post will be the unanswered.

Dan Question answered here:
http://www.superherohype.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7695620&postcount=1

The first part of the question has not directly been answered but, we now know from pictures and random conversations that a western Ghost Rider is in it which leads us to believe that the history, the mythos, of Ghost Rider will be present.

1. We know that it's going to definatly not be martial arts style. Definatly.

2. The powers the bike has can be found here:
http://www.superherohype.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7695647&postcount=2

3. I don't think the final soundtrack idea has been released. It's been months since he's chatted about the music and so much could have changed. Anyhoo, soundtrack questions found here as well:
http://www.superherohype.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7695647&postcount=2

4. We know how it will look from recent footage. Somebody here could probably answer the who did what questions.

Dear Mr. MSJ,

I am a big fan and I am looking very much forward to Ghost Rider.:ghost:

But I have only one question: Is Daredevil 2 going to be made and will you direct?

Most of these I'll put in a seperate thread of not asked.

3) Not sure if it's changed but the answer has been answered here:
http://www.superherohype.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7695647&postcount=2

4) I'm pretty sure that Nic has been involved with this for years before shooting began. He was a major force behind getting it done, from what I understand. I could be wrong though, so I'll add it to the other post.

Hiho Mr.

Greetings from Vienna

3) It's PG 13.

Hey Mark,

I'll put you on the spot. :) What's your box office prediction for opening weekend including Holiday. I'm guessing 60-65, and trust you're doing everything on your end to prevent the 70% 2nd week drop. :)

MSJ,

Are you working closely with the game developers so the effects and the storyline and everything run together nicely? Do you know if the cast members are doing the voice overs on the game? I don't think Nic has done that before.

Heres My Question:
Is Stan Lee making an appearance?

Hey Mark,

You need to have a fan competition for that Hell Cylce. Start it in a few months. Have some sort of drawing for it. Let the media know about the contest and the hype begins. Every person on Earth would want that bike.

Another Question: C'mon Mark you can take a few snaps with your digital camera of the crew working in the post production offices, or with you sitting on the bike wearing GRiders's Jacket...right? ;)

Thank you.

Edd.

I know this is crappy question of absolute no importance but I loved cruising around that set on weekends, soaking in the feel of the dirty back street garage. It was sad to see that thing come down. :(

Hiho Mr.

Will there be a huge marketing campagne for the film?

...

4. Will there be any backstory in the movie around the Medallion, Zarathos and Mephisto through flashbacks? And will Noble Kale, Badilino or John`s brother Daniel play any role in this or in future GR films probably?

5. Which part was intended for Jon Voight before he left the project?

I wish you all the best and I hope that Ghost Rider will rock

Ok that was it. Thanks in advance!

Greetings from Vienna

I have a question. Your gonna supply us loyal fans here with tickets to an advance screening right?? ;);) I don't mind if the effects are not there yet.

Probably the most important question I have right now......

Is this Aquinnah really a producer for the movie?

Howdy, i think its great that you talk to on these boards, i respect that and thank you... my questions..

...

2nd after working with both talented actors (Ben Affleck and Nic Cage) who do you think would win in a fist fight? (not their super-hero's)

Hey MSJ, looks like round 4 is started. We look forward to the day you have time to answer some of our new inquiries.

Here's a couple I have... for now.

1) Angry Anderson is reported (by crappy IMDB) to have Angry Anderson in the film however there is reportidly close friend of his saying that he's not involved at all. Could you clear this up?

2) Avi Arad seems like the coolest guy in the world. Is he?

Hey Mark, how many times have you reinvented this movie since you began production... since you finished production for that matter. This ample time to tweak the movie must be pretty sweet.

Oooh, and in addition to this; have any new CGI scenes been developed since post production began? Perhaps scenes that you didn't think you had time for but, now are doable?

I haven't read a Ghost Rider comic ever. How accessible will this movie be to me and others like me? Thanks.

When you make GR 2 will it be made in Melbourne?
It was great to watch (from the sidelines) you guys work.
...

Apologies if this has been asked before:

Can you give us some idea of Ghost Rider's fighting style? Batman Begins had a very brutal, grounded, no-BS style which perfectly suited the character. Will Ghost Rider's be similar?

Also, please have a gander at the captions thread and tell us which is your favourite!

1. Will there be any deaths in this movie?

2. Will there be any evidence or nods to other Marvel characters?

3. You seem to have assembled quite an amazing cast for a comic book film. What attracted these A-list stars? Are there any hardcore GR fans besides you and Nic? Or were they just really attracted to the story, characters, etc.?

Ghost Rider was one of my favorite comic books when I was a kid... I'll be at the movie opening night!

Just one question, if it's been answered before I'm sorry (if so anybody that knows can answer).

Who built the bikes?

Thanks

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I didn't see it anywhere. I know the movie is a mixture of the Blaze and Ketch stories, but I was wondering if there are any shots in the movie that are directly taken from the comics. I know the scene in Spiderman 2 where he throws the costume in the trash is pretty much framed just like it is in the comics. And obviously Sin City was all shot using the comics as storyboards. So, without giving too much away, can we expect any shots from the comics?

MSJ I was wondering what made you go with the brownish skull instead of white? Will there be any test footage shown on the DVD of the white skull?

Here are 4; 2 of which are relating to the merchandise:

One more question from me that has just popped up:

There is a website (http://www.johnnyblaze.com) that was written on a brochure used as a prop in the movie for (I assume) Blaze's big jump. Is this URL (which is active) owed by the studio or anyone involved in the movie? And, will it be updated in the future?

Hey flamehead I just noticed something about your Avatar the GR flaming head. Have you ever seen those moving waterfall pictures they sell at malls that light up and it looks like the water is moving. They could make a kickass Ghost Rider picture with the same technology. It's just a plastic sheet behind the pic that's in front of a light and rolls on a belt. It would be very easy to make and every GR fan would buy one.

That's an awesome idea! They should definalty do that.

I know they're doing one of those 3d changing ones, so MSJ says anyway. One like the recent monster house one if anyone's seen it. I guess it'll be Blaze in Ghost Rider. Duh.

1) As being one of the producers of ELEKTRA what do you think about the movie, did u like it & how was the ROB BOWMAN direction in it?

2) Did u ever wanted to Direct ELEKTRA-THE MOVIE?

3) Before filming DAREDEVIL, do you always wanted to make it a R-rated movie(as your director's cut version is R-rated)?

4)Recently some sites pop-up the news that ROSWELL star JASON BEHR is going to play DAREDEVIL in a direct to DvD sequel, just want to know is there any truth to these reports.
I think fans would love to see BEN AFFLECK again because he was superb in DAREDEVIL???

Hello MSJ, I love DD and I am definetly sure I'll love GR, but I was wondering something. You see, I love movies (all kinds of them) and I love comic books. So, it seemed logical for me to direct a comic book movie (I want to be a director when I'm older...It's my dream job). I chose "Space Ghost" as my hero, and you can check out my section on him over in the DC Comics Films section. I was just wondering, director to director, if.........

How much credit is David Goyer getting for this movie? Will his name be present at all and has he had much imput besides the initial script writting?

FlameHead

Well folks, if you all remember, MSJ's first real response to our questions came about this time last year. The first ever Q&A thread (I think created by BG) was made for people who were going to the Con last year and possibly ask these questions. To our surprise, the man himself answered them directly to us. Sweet stuff.

So, I'm wondering if he'll do the same again.

Also, is there anybody here going to the con to ask some of these questions? I'd much rather people asking questions that weren't answered yet instead of all the same stuff, ya know?

FlameHead
07-13-2006, 10:28 AM
Here's an edidted list of questions in this thread. I've removed anything related to DD, ELEKTRA or anything outside of GR.

This list will have to be shorted further if we're going to try and pass it in to MSJ. No more than 10 questions I think. Suggestions?

I'm gonna go through and try and organize them by topic in a little while....

...

[/B]

MSG thanks for answering my questions before. Here's some more:

2) With the long wait...Are you going to be doing any test screenings early to get some more feedback. You have plenty of time to add footage, do reshoots, etc...if needed.

...

4) Just a fan curious question. Say Nic Cage chose not to do Ghost Rider or couldn't do it with his schedule...what other names were on the list to play Ghost Rider? Were there any back ups?

2. You've stated that GR is like a "gothic western", is there any way to describe that a little more detailed so we can get a feel for the movie?

Thank you.

Edd.

2. How long into the movie until Blaze actually becomes The Rider and will he have more screentime than Blaze? I'm always one for cutting straight to the chase, but understand the need for intros and such for the plot and story explanations.

Simple question about the soundtrack...

Ghost Rider by the Rollins Band, in or no? cause it would be great for the end credits :o

1) While writing your version of the script, how much of Goyer's '95, Goyer's '01, and Salerno's scriptwork did you base yours off of. I've only read Goyer's 2001 script of the bunch to which I know the story has changed from his version to yours, but was anything kept around (such as Caretaker in '95 script and now in the current version).

2) Johnny Depp, Keifer Sutherland, and even Eric Bana were names that were thrown around or attached as some point to play the part of Johnny Blaze, but in the end Nicolas Cage was the constant throughout the years. Did you have any other names in mind for the role, or was it always Nic Cage?

3) Originally, the production was slated to start in 2001 before you come on board. After you came on the project as director in 2003, the production was set to start in late '03 / early '04, though some troubles pushed the production back to the official start time of early '05. What were the factors that pushed the filming time back this far? Were there any times during the pre (and now post) production that aggravation started to settle in since the project seemed to have a "curse" on it or something?

4) The release date has obviously been moved around all over the place from August '06 to July '06 and now finally to February '06. What were the reasons for this moving, first moving up and then back? Was it post production reasons like CGI development or something else? Many sites have stated that Sony has "not liked the movie and thus throwing it into February and doing all these reshoots to in a sense 'redo' the movie." This is not true, I know, especially after reading your post with the lassoing of the helicopter. Please put these claims to rest!

Hi Mark, Since Nic would consider a sequel only if its better than the first movie, then how about doing the Midnight Sons with Ghost Rider and Blade as a semi-sequel??? It would accually be a origin film starring 2 existing movie charactors. David

Anyway, my question of the day (besdies the one I just asked) is have you ever met or chatted with any of GR's creators?

WiscoD
07-25-2006, 10:44 PM
That would be one way to keep Cage out of another movie, but I don't understand why that would be your goal. Not to keep him out, but to keep him in. If you take away the pressure of a sequel to Ghost Rider, but keep the charactor in a new Superhero movie with another established charactor(Blade). You would have a semi-blank canvass to write with, while bringing in the Blade/Snipes fans in to see an interesting take on doing sequels. D

FlameHead
07-26-2006, 02:12 PM
SwitchBlade man. Tell that tale. Midnight Masacre. Now that would be the ****. Probably would only work in an animated feature but, with a little adapting, it could really work in film as well.

Anyway, I'll leave it at that. We can chat about this in the Sequel section, which we hardly ever use...

AND here's what he replied with on August 15th, 2006 at 8:25 pm....

Hey dude! How the hell are you? To answer your questions: I'd love to do a DD2. Don't think that's going to happen for now. DD made Fox a lot of $$ but Elektra tanked (somehow, they've got it in their head that Elektra WAS the sequel to DD -- sigh).

I'm actually talking about a couple of other things in the comic world but can't say just yet. But one would be for HBO as a series. Keep your fingers crossed. Of course, all would take a back seat to a Ghost Rider sequel!

I'm not sure when the next trailer will be coming out for Ghost Rider. Be sure and check the official site from time to time as I'm hoping they'll let me slip some key stuff onto it for the fans.

So glad you like what you're seeing! The movie's way cooler! Thanks again for writing!

as far as the trailer goes it reads there isnt any time frame for the new one to hit theaters. there will be one eventually of course...my bet will be in Nov or Dec to take advantage of the holiday crowds. would be cool if it was in late Oct but we will see.
wish Sony will get off their a$$ and redo the current trailer proper...at least redo the online version. you cant see the detail in the skull and gives more fuel for the ones who are claiming the cgi will be crap.
what is interesting is the HBO series comment.. .could it be a Marvel series? maybe even a GR series? hmmmm....

I am also curious about this.

Mark only said that it was a comic book series for HBO...nothing specific....but I would REALLY like it to be a GR series. Live action! That'd be awesome! Of course itr'd be WAAAY too expensive to be a live action series, so cartoon will do it for me. MAYBE it's a new character that no one's heard of (maybe Mark's own creation) or it could be something for Marvel/DC. He hasn't done any DC things yet, so that could be interesting.

would be cool to see a live action GR series...but it would be have to be done fairly cheap which would suck! :(
would be better if it was an animated series...maybe make it a little more violent/gory.

I'd LOVE to see a live-ation GR series, but yes...it would have to be done VERY cheap. So I'd say no to that.

But I think MSJ has plans for a Ghost Rider 2. AND a Ghost Rider 3.

What I want to know is if Zarathos is mentioned at all? Like is he mentioned as the demon that Blaze is joined with or not? Or if in the movie it's just going to be a case of the demon side being called Ghost Rider and not letting the audience know that part of the story.

To keep the juices flowing, here's some questions for you Mark...

1)For GR2, are you aiming for 2010, 2011, etc.? (I know you're taking a big break when GR opens in Feb.)

2)Do you think some of us SHH! members could get in on GR sequel casting? Because I know that I, among MANY others, would LOVE to meet you in person and be in the films.

3)Is Caretaker (Sam Eliott) the GR riding the horse in the trailer? Or is it someone else? Because I heard someone on here say it was Peter Fonda, which I highly, HIGHLY doubt. Also, does the horse GR have a big part, or is it just that one part in the trailer? Does he help Johnny fight Mephisto and Blackheart?

4)Have you made a final cut of the film that you like yet? Although I'm sure that the CGI and editing is not com pletely done yet, you probably have a cut you like. And if so, how long is this cut? I'm hoping for 2 hours, 15 minutes. <<<Perfect amount of time!

Anyways Mark, thanks for being awesome and chsttin' with us fans here!

Don't know if this is even a good idea I am practically asleep so probably but I will give it a try.

1. What do you think about all of these upcoming comic book films? The Dark Knight, Iron Man (Downey!), The Incredible Hulk, Spider-Man 3, and F42.

2. What do you have in mind for the future after Ghost Rider? Are you a director that likes to stay completely focused on one film at a time?

3. Is doing another comic book film outside of Ghost Rider and Daredevil possible?

I think it's a great idea if MSJ ( or for that matter any other director) gets these kind of questions. For starters they can answer a question properly without saying "Just wait and see :cwink: ".

Anyway here are my questions :

1 Are you more of a DC fan or a Marvel fan
2 With the release of several comic book movies lately , which movies have impressed you alot and which ones didn't ?
3 What movies have inspired you to become a movie director.
4 Ditto with film directors
5 What movies did leave a deep impression on you ?
6 Post ghost rider , is there another film genre that you would definately try to make a movie in. Such a drama , comedy , art-house or even a musical :oldrazz:
7 Tell us a movie you like but everyone hates
8 Tell us a movie you hate but everyone loves :woot:
9 What's the last movie ( aside from Ghost Rider of course) that you've watched
10 Have you had any big film scripts , but eventually couldn't/wouldn't film them. Care to tell us what they were :cwink:
10 Obligatory Matrix Question :D : What is you're opinion of the matrix trilogy. Like it , hate it ? And please do explain
11 Final question. If it were up to you , what would you change in the movie industry RIGHT NOW. It could be any topic in the movie making business , from producing a movie , to VFX , to marketing. Anything related to movie making , what would YOU change.

Advanced Dark

MSJ,

Most of us are eagerly anticipating your film next month and it really appears you've done the character some justice. It's surely been a long struggle for this franchise to get off the ground for a variety of reasons. Looking forward to it so here's my questions: (Answer what you can...much appreciated.)

1) You said you'd surely do a sequel if the fan's show up, the box office is suitable enough to warrant a sequel, and the script can top this one. I know we got to wait and see what happens but at the same time surely you've thought up a general idea of what villains you'd like to see in the sequel should everything fall into place. Do you have a short list of favorites??? Even if you can't tell us who could you at least tell us that you do have something in mind???

2) Are you going to be attending the San Diego Comic-Con in 2007 to promote the Ghost Rider DVD? Since it's a February release I'd imagine the DVD would hit the stores in July right in time huh?

3) Regarding Daredevil and Elektra. I'd really love to see those characters in a film where you have more control and the studio has more confidence in you. I've read plenty of interviews with you that state how you'd go about it. To me though I think a Kingpin franchise is even more interesting. Kind of like the Scarface of the Marvel Universe. I can't imagine New Regency/Fox doing the right thing by these characters or having any confidence in them since they can always fall back on X-men and FF so hopefully the rights will go back home. Would you be interested in tackling a Kingpin feature(s)???

4) I'm sure I'll get flamed for this. LOL. I really love all your blogs on Sony's site, and how you visit us here from time to time but you don't seem to have a myspace presence which is the trend right now. Jon Favreau, Tim Story, Louis Leterrier, Steve Niles, Edgar Wright, and one of your producer friends has their pages set up there. Most of the feature films even have their own official myspace site as well. I think it's a very powerful tool to have a site like that even if you don't use it to respond individually to fans. The bulletins are a great way to get the message across, etc...Have you considered opening up at least a generic site to pass on info or are you happy with the outlets you use now???

5) Lastly, back to Daredevil. You talked in one interview about possibly going back to the yellow duds. Hopefully not yellow leather. How would that translate onto the big screen??? :wow:

Thanks for everything. Ghost Rider looks like it's gonna be alot of fun. I'm predicting it's gonna break the Presidents Day weekend record myself and crack 60-65 million over the Holiday weekend. :)

InVictus
01-04-2007, 04:28 AM
To MSJ,

1)This character allows to explore some themes and visuals never seen before in a Marvel movie. How does it feel to establish the possible start of the Marvel's movie universe supernatural aspect?

2)How do you feel about the inability to have different marvel movie characters crossover/appearance due to their rights aquired by various companies?

Mr Nick

Mark Steven Johnson, after three years plus of working on Ghost Rider, the release date is almost here. What's going though your mind, right now? :cwink:

Hi MSJ, cant wait for the movie, here some questions if you can answer them!

1) Have ANY other comic book/superhero movies had any influence/s on the tone, direction, casting, etc, etc of Ghost Rider? For example, the Spiderman movies have similar tones to the Donner Superman movies (they almost mimic them at times as wle, Constantine had a similar feel to Blade, etc, etc.

2) Was it an asset or a bit of a burden having more control on how this movie turned out from the studio than you had on Daredevil?

3) What are your top 5 CB movies of all time?

Thats all for now, thanks MSJ, i hope GR is great and makes lots of money!

3)How far are you on Preacher? And if you get to direct the pilot for Preacher, when do you think it would happen...like 2008?

I understand that your not getting into the whole Zarathos/Kale thing in the movie, but is there any indication at all of who or what GR is in the movie?

thanks

Ill put up a real question, but its more the comic element.

Has Ghost Rider ever been part of a major Marvel event?Has he ever really interacted with any other Marvel character.

I doubt Mark'll have the time to answer a lot of these questions. He hasn't really been able to do that for a while now. We still have a whole thread (which is merged with all the others now, btw... and this one will likely be moved there in time) that he hasn't been able to get around too.

Of course, this is totally understandable. We're lucky he gets the time to post at all.

Now, before I start, I know that Wizard isn't the great mag on Earth. :o But I was reading their movie update section, which is for Marvel, DC, etc flicks. It has a Luke Cage update, and says that you're doing a rewrite for the script!

Then I went to hollywood.com, and it has the project on your profile, with the screenplay.

So I wanted to ask, is this true? If so, kickass!
