With the new season 2 weeks away I think it's time to begin the official discussion thread. Especially with the new preview on Fox.com.

The season looks great. It looks like Audrey may be in charge of CTU...which is...strange...I wish they brought back Erin Driscoll. She had potential.

Why would Audrey be incharge of CTU?

Why would Audrey be incharge of CTU?

Well, Bill Buchanan has Chapelle's job, so I doubt he'd step down to run CTU LA which would be a huge demotion...Audrey is the only other official we saw with Buchanan in CTU in the preview. It seems like she at the very least works there.

no way in hell audrey can be in charge of ctu, shes not the take charge kinda chick.

SPOILERS

Season Premiere Info

What’s it called?
7:00 A.M.- 8:00 A.M.
Who’s responsible?
Teleplay is said to be credited to “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”/“Angel” vet Howard Gordon.
Does Jack start out with that hoodie-Cobain look he sported in the season-four DVD’s 10-minute season-five prequel?
He does not. Jack starts the season looking pretty much the way he does in Fox’s season-five promos.
Season one began with a plane crash. Last season began with a train crash. What action sets the plot in motion this season?
Within the first five minutes, a sniper’s bullet pierces the brain of one of the world’s most famous political figures. A character we’ve met before this season will cradle this political figure’s brain matter and skull fragments.
The big news?
In the first 20 minutes, a woman we’ve met in a prior season will die. A character we met in season one will witness her death.
Have Edgar and Chloe and Curtis gone the way of Milo?
No fewer than 12 characters from prior seasons return for the season premiere. Here are 10 of them:
07:00 DOD Vet Jack Bauer
07:05 President Charles Logan
07:05 Presidential Aide Mike Novick
07:07 CTU vet Bill Buchanan
07:07 CTU Vet Curtis Manning
07:07 CTU Vet Edgar Stiles
07:10 CTU Vet Chloe O’Brien
07:12 CTU Vet Tony Almeida
07:12 CTU Vet Michelle Dessler
07:20 DOD Vet Audrey Raines
Is it true, as reported on IMDb, that Tzi Ma is back for 5.1?
IMDb lies about 5.1. If our intel is correct, Tzi Ma does not reprise the role of Cheng Zhi in 5.1. Ping Wu does not reprise the role of Su Ming in 5.1. William Devane does not reprise the role of James Heller in 5.1. Sean Astin is not in 5.1. Sabrina Lloyd is not in 5.1. And IMDb fails to list several returning cast members who will return in 5.1, including Bill Buchanan.
But. But. Sean Astin. TV Guide said he was playing a CTU?
Astin does not appear until 5.4.
Is Chloe still working for CTU at episode’s start?
She is. In her first scene, we learn that Chloe has something in common with fellow CTU vets Jack Bauer, Chase Edmunds, Michelle Dessler, “Soul Patch” Tony Almeida, Nina Myers, Curtis Manning and Kim Bauer.
What does Chloe now have in common with Jack Bauer, Chase Edmunds, Michelle Dessler, Tony Almeida, Nina Myers, Curtis Manning and Kim Bauer?? I must know!
Chloe likes to bone the occasional CTU employee!!
Ew! Edgar??
That. Would be. Telling.
Is Audrey now working for CTU?
No. She’s just comes to visit CTU on behalf of President Logan shortly after all hell breaks loose.
Is Logan in D.C., as he was last season?
No. Like all the other returnees, he is in California.
Any new key characters TV Guide fails to mention?
Two of the biggest are First Lady Martha Logan (Jean Smart), who has a history of mental instability, and Martha’s stunning aide Evelyn (“Rapa Nui” star Sandrine Holt).
Is Milo back?
Eric Balfour was busy with that witless primetime soap about Silverlake.
Supersexy lesbian assassin Mandy? Naked cavorting?
Not in the first four.
Will this be a good episode?
One of the best ever. The stuff with the Bakersfield teenager learning of Jack’s secret identity is priceless.
How does it end, spoiler boy?
A photograph of Jack Bauer appears on a computer monitor.

why? I mean I like Michelle and all but she's definetly not my favorite character. Im curious about why it affects your viewership of the show. One of my favorite characters (Palmer) is probably gonna bite, but he's not what the show is about. In my opinion 24 needs its unpredictability, for that to happen major characters need to die and anybody outside of Jack Bauer (who IS 24) should be fair game. That's just my opinion though. And I respect your opinion. Im just curious about why that would affect wether or not you watch the show.

I doubt it will be. I fail to see what could be served by killing her. Other than shock value, and I really hope they don't go that way. Killing someone simply for the sake of killing them is a bad thing.

Honestly, I'll believe it when I see it. 24's crew has been known to leak spoilers and even film false takes. Since this season seems to be full of shocks, I wouldn't be suprised if everything we know is false.

Matt
12-28-2005, 02:27 PM
I'm still not entirely sure these spoilers are accurate. Since this season seems to rely heavily on shock value, I could see multiple takes being filmed of several characters deathes and certain ones being leaked intentionally.

24 cast and crew are known for their intentional misdirection. Remember last season? Carlos Bernard said in an interview that Tony dies in the finale. Tony is alive and well, post-finale though.

It really wouldn't suprise me if our legs are being pulled.

TheVileOne

Its all part of the fun GoldenAgehero. Besides its not like we know how EVERYTHING is going to go down.

I guarantee you about halfway through things are going to go in reversal or shift dramatically. The "threat" early on probably won't even be the real threat by the end of the season.

Also,

As for the Bernard thing, I didn't hear Reiko Aylesworth say she was going to die early on this season. So I'm not taking that argument into account.

Matt
12-28-2005, 05:55 PM
I never remember Bernard saying that.

He said it on the TV guide channel...he was really coy about it. He didn't directly say it, but he was alluding to it big time, sort of like "A woman from a previous season will die while someone from season 1 watches"...only person who fits the description is Michelle...which is why I doubt the spoiler. It is vague without being vague, almost intentionally trying to be vague, and the same **** Bernard was doing last season.

I really wanna see Jack and Tony shooting up ALOT of people.

I think michelle and palmer bit the big one, especially since dennis haysbert is on another TV show now.Its still a shame to see them go.

As much as i'm excited, this season really just seems like shock, shock, shock....

It's simply an example of how the crew uses misdirection and false information. Reiko Aylesworth doesn't have to say it for the point to be valid. It is simply showing an example of the crew and cast doing it in the past.

Shifty
12-28-2005, 06:37 PM
Well the worst kept essentially is that Palmer dies. I was hoping that it appeared he died and then later we discover he barely survived or was brought back to life. But doesn't look good. Michelle will go to because the writers of 24 want the viewers to know that 24 is still 24, anyone can go. Which sucks since both wer great characters, especially Palmer.

Anyone click on the the theme song on the main page? Gets you in the mood. http://www.fox.com/24/ There seems to be a couple tracks.

Spoilers generally come from cast and crew, or at least people who are somehow connected to someone on the cast or crew...and sometimes they leak false spoilers to throw people off. It's not a new tactic.

how doesn't Chloe fit this descripton?

Honestly, she doesn't fit it because the character kicks it in the first ten minutes. In the trailer for Season 5 we can see Chloe being interrogated by CTU, talking on the phone to Jack, etc...I really doubt CTU finds out Jack is alive, she calls Jack, CTU captures her, interrogates her, and she dies all in ten minutes.

May President Palmer and Michelle Dessler Almedia rest in peace. Saddest deathes in TV history :(

Also, I can't believe Walt is the mole. Isn't he Logan's attorney general and the one who gave secret service the order to kill Jack last season?

Well how many times have they tried to kill David Palmer? Fourth time is the charm. I knew sadly that Palmer and the sexy Michelle were joining Chappelle, Mason, and Walsh from the second ever episode of 24. Actually, their deaths were exactly like Walsh's in that we didn't expect a friend of Jack's to die so short into the season. I actually laughed when the show went to the clock, since it had only been 15 minutes. I was thinking that the characters might get another scene, and they would have a final moment, that's what shocked me and I enjoyed it.

It took balls to fake Jack's death and it took even bigger balls to do what they did tonight. They got some new writers (from Lost) consulted with an author, it seemed like 24 but it didn't. But in a good way. Its the same characters, same location, and everything but its great to watch 24 again. I'm just amazed that its the fifth season and way back before Jack even stormed into the Gaines Compound there was talk of cancelation.

Its back to conspiracies but of course along with moles, workplace tension, action scenes, parking lot scenes, a stupid teenager and high stakes (but maybe not as high last year's).

For once Global's simulcast wasn't a annoyance, since they skipped the post game show and ate some commerical time so 24 wouldn't be too delayed. Then I watched the ending again on Fox to see the previews. I've got class Monday nights, I just hope the nothing screws with the VCR.

Michelle is definitely hot. Sometimes Chloe is, other times, not so much. At any rate, Chloe was great on the premiere.

Y'know what's depressing, Tony, Jack, and Kim are the only regulars from the original cast who are still alive. :(

Secret Service Agent Pierce is still alive. Besides being Palmer's go to guy, he was also head of security during season one's first attempt on David Palmer's life. While not a 'regular', he's gotta be upset with what's happened. Actually he does appear soon

During season four because of the great ratings, Fox signed 24 for two more seasons (so there would be six seasons of 24). Then they'll probably shift over to movies. I remember Sutherland on Kilborn during the first and he was asked how long will the show go and he said the writers have ideas it could go to six. It seemed silly to say at the time, but even after these episodes, a sixth or even seventh episode will just make it even harder for the writers.

I hope that 'terrorist' that's orchestrating the attack on the airport is not inside CTU. He looked like he is, as he stood in front of some big monitors watching over things. Like i said, i hope this is not the case as this is exactly what they did in season 3, with Giel (can't spell his name) and it would be so predictable.

We know who the mole is at the white house already, but who is the mole in CTU? Remember the head terrorist said "Let CTU get him (Jack), we'll get him once CTU has him in custody".(or something to that effect). That indicates to me that someone inside CTU is a mole also.

I have a funny feeling that when curtis gets to the oil refinery, the bodies will have already been removed, making Chloes story questionable...

Last season was great but the lack of twists made it feel different, i hope this season has more twists.....

Not really, as it would make no sense. In fact, even if they had a brilliant explanation for it, it would still suck.

I'm not sure what to make of McGill. So far he seems like the show's new Chapelle. Well, he seems a bit more competant than Chapelle (picking up on the Flank 2 code)...but for the most part he seems like a bueracratic ass.

Last season, if I'm not mistaken, Bill Buchanan had Chapelle's job, correct? So why did he step down from it? Why would Buchanan have taken a demotion from Division to CTU LA? Then again, with Tony and Michelle out of the game and Driscoll unlikely to want to return to CTU LA due to what happened, maybe he was the only choice? But what about Curtis? I actually wouldn't mind seeing Driscoll again this season, I liked her.

Anyway, it seems like the threat for Season 5.0 (first half, as there are usually two major threats per season) is going to be nerve gas. However, I wonder where they will go for Season 5.5? I don't think the guy in the computer room is the main threat, but more of an Ira Gaines type villian.

Next week it also looks as though Jack is going to break out of CTU custody and be on the run (with the aide of Mike Novick?)...I'm relieved to see he isn't getting cleared so easily, especially since the tag line is "To the world Jack Bauer is dead...but soon he will become the world's most wanted man."...I'm looking forward to seeing a manhunt for JAck and the tagline fulfilling it's promise.

Prez. Logan is such a freakin' dumba**. It's so frustrating.

So this season they're using nerve gas... Cool!

Nah, nerve gas won't be the season threat...it'll just be the early threat.

LOL! Yeah, the show does really have a system. The first threat is always resolved in the first four episodes. Take last season for example. Audrey and her father were rescued so quickly and then they learned of another threat.

Anyway, Sean Astin hasn't really done anything too incredible for the show yet. It was strange how he just showed up.

Hopefully there will be some more cool deaths to keep us happy throughout the season.

Interesting...wonder if he'll pop up this season. He was a pretty cool character. "Jack Jr.," if you will. Didn't he and Kim get married off-screen?

I believe Chloe mentioned something about it to Jack at the beginning of last season.

Well, Division usually does send someone when the threat gets too heavy (Chapelle got sent whenever it escalated to the final threat during seasons 1-3...earlier in Season 3 because they set up for his death). Buchanan got sent last season during the melt down threat (which was fairly big)...and since this day started off with a massive threat (President Palmer's death)...division sent Rudy...I mean McGill.

Maybe the threat for 5.5 will be some kind of nuclear weapon, or something equally as dangerous, and McGill and Jack have to team up to take it to a volcano to destroy it...and maybe they'll later be joined by Chloe (possibly Edgar), who've become addicted to the plutonium used to power the weapon, calling it "their precious"?

...sorry. You know someone had to do a LOTR joke...I figured I'd take one for the team.

Kim and Chase never got married, they were just living together. Kim will be in this season and she has a new boyfriend, who is said to be very controlling.

Good premiere for 24, this season is off to a fast start, I was really suprised at the turn they gave for the First Lady, cool stuff. The President's aid is gonna get caught very soon, the terrorists reacted too quickly to the info he gave. Jack's gonna put that together quickly. Also Rudy got sent to CTU on behalf of the White House. I'm really rooting for another Presidential assasination this season, Logan is just such a horrible president, he needs to be taken out of office.

Yeah the head of CTU LA seems really messed up. Jack was in charge during season one, Mason who I believe worked for District during season one then became head of CTU during season two, Tony and Jack both shared duties but Jack was in charge of the field during season three, Driscoll for season four and now Bill. Which means he probably won't have the job at the end of the season. :down But why is it whenever someone from District or Division arrives they're a douche? Chappelle, Alberta Green, Brad Hammond, Nothing can top Mason going after Jack in season one, though.

Another two great episodes. I love 24.

As for China, I could see them declaring war on America.

Now that I've thought more about it, at least last season and season one also had an unlikely accomplice who managed to escape during CTU's raid and then became the primary person whom CTU was searching for.

Last season it was the guy Audrey recognized and in season 1 it was that buisness man with the bad heart who Jack punched in the chest which resulted in his death. According to the "24 Plan", the guy who managed to escape the airport should end up being found and then immediately dying... Then Jack will yell "DAMN IT!". :)

Good episodes. I'm surprise Jack didn't mention to Curtis that there has to be a Mole somewhere in CTU or whatever, that's how his position got compromised. I think that once the chinese know he's alive-like others have said-**** will really hit the fan. And, if there's gonna be a sixth season-Jack will go to jail at the end of this season, as i can't see him living happily ever after...

I dunno if that'll be a focus this season, but I can see it being a major role next season. I think it would be weird to have a terrorist threat until about episode 12, and then all of the sudden it's about Jack trying to fix things between China and America. Wouldn't make much sense to me, you know?

"Well,it could be, that Jack is under the assumption that Derek cracked and said he was there."

The previews showed Jack confronting Novick about a possible mole. Jack just hasn't didn't the time to put everything together in last night's episode, on his way back to CTU he'll put it together. That or Jack already does suspect, but wants Curtis to focus finding the fake hostage and he'll go after the mole himself. Jack was watching Derek most of the time and the terrorist had a lot more information than Derek would know, so I don't think he suspects Derek had anything to do with him getting caught.

So who else thinks Curtis was basically CTU's Jack-in-waiting? It struck me as that. Last season, who was one of the new characters, but he was almost as much of an unstoppable badass as Jack, and now he seems to be one of the head field agents.

amazingfantasy15
01-17-2006, 02:25 PM
Curtis was the number two person in CTU last season (well after Jack's replacement bit the dust in hour two or three). I think Curtis has Jack's old position of head of field ops this season.

I really don't think China's gonna let the U.S. slide for a while once they find out Bauer's still alive. His actions last season were an act of war and a former President helped to fake his death to get out of the situation. I think the terrorists are planning to leak that Bauer's still alive to help cover up their actions.

Well,it could be, that Jack is under the assumption that Derek cracked and said he was there.
Give Jack more credit than that, he's alot smarter. Jack observed the terrorist come off the phone, walk over to his labtop then jam Jacks communication with Curtis. It makes no sense for him not to realise that the phone call is what gave away his position....maybe they'll get into it next week......

...well it's obvious that the airport roose was a diversion to cover up the drilling/digging than revealled those nerve gas canisters....

..and like i said before Jack ending up in prison at the end of the season is the perfect logical way to end it. The big happy ending for Bauer is, well, not in 24 fashion. I'd like to see CTU pardon him or whatever then think he's o.k and left with Derek and his mom, and then the chinese covertly abduct him like they did that other agent in season 4...then open season 6 with jack imprisoned a year or two later...sounds good to me anyway!

Oh, i have a quick question: I was watching season 4 on A&E yesterday morning and they are on the episodes where Sarah is tortured by richards because Marianne has planted evidence on her server and they all think she is the mole. I can't remember-where is Chloe during all this? I know she's in seaon 4 but i watched 3 episodes yesterday and didn't see her at all, and i can't remember where she was....don't have it on dvd yet either....

Great start to the season!!
One thing confuses me though....Probably because it hasnt been explained, or I just totally missed something. But how did the terrorists, or anyone for that matter outside Palmer, Chloe, Michelle, and Tony, know that Jack was alive in the first place?? Obviously one of them must've told someone, and the information some how made it's way to the terrorists. Correct? And in that same vain, how did the terrorists know that Palmer, Chloe, Michelle, and Tony, we're the ones that knew about Jack's cover up?? Are we lead to believe that Palmer was the one who leaked the info??

amazingfantasy15
01-17-2006, 06:25 PM
Chloe was fired at the time for helping Jack track the terrorist. Just the first of many examples why going by the book is a bad idea.

As for how the terrorists knew about Jack, it's revealed in the teaser on the season 4 DVD, someone hacked into Chloe's system and learned that Jack's autospy was faked. Obviously someone wasn't totally convinced and did some digging of their own, the scary part is that the terrorists are tech savvy enough to get past Chloe's computer defenses.

Yeah, now that Fox has finally learned how to schedule that show, it´s becoming a phenomen. You don´t make pre-emptions for a show like 24, you have to keep the eps coming to keep the adrenaline rush and anticipation. Here in Brazillian Fox we watch two eps in a row, always a new ep each week since season one, that´s how you watch 24!

That's Fox twisting the truth. Again. They did that last season. They took Sunday's ratings and Monday's ratings and combined them since they've hyped it as the 24 Premiere. So 35 million people watched 24 on Sunday Jan 15th and Monday Jan 16th but ABC could say over 50 million watched Desperate Housewives (on Sunday Jan 8th and Sunday Jan 15th).

You can see that Sunday's two episodes found themesleves in the top 15, I think in the top 10 for the first time. Of course the football game helped, but after 4 seasons on DVD its about time it got a large audience.
