I thought I'd start a new Scrubs thread since Season 5 begins next Tuesday, January 3rd. I just got the first two seasons on DVD and am very happy to see that the new season is finally coming on air.
BTW, did a search and the last Scrubs thread was started by a real jack@$$ so I figured I'd start something new.

Scrubs is the best show on tv, up there with Arrested Development and The Office. I've been watching religiously since the get-go, and I own the first two seasons on dvd. Brilliant stuff. Everyone in the world should be forced to watch it.

I can't wait for Scrubs to come back. As much as I think the Office is great and My Name is Earl enjoyable, I think it was a mistake to cut down such an awesome show to a 6 episode season.

Scrubs and now Everybody Hates Chris are the only sitcoms I watch religiously. I can´t watch My Name is Earl cuz in my country it plays only on FX and my cable package doesn´t get it... ****.

I rarely get to see any tellevision shows when they actually air, I pretty much have to download everything I want to watch. You should give Earl a download, it's not bad.

First two episodes of this season weren't quite up to par in my opinion, however it could be because I've been watching the first two seasons on DVD this past weekend. Loved the janitor trick in the first episode with the cutouts of JD and the "Man" cards.

I absolutely agree, though the "Man" cards were good, there wasn't any bust a gut laugh moments in the first two episodes, though I did think the second one was better than the first.
Of course, I can't wait for Season 3 to come out on DVD either....

I was pretty disappointed with the first episode as well. Not only was it not funny, both the humor and general look/tone of the episode felt different as well. The second episode was better, and the humor felt more familiar (i.e. conjoined twin doctor man thingy)

Too bad one's being cancelled (most likely), one seems to have no support from their network (it seems like NBC just wants to run as many eps as fast as possible for Scrubs by airing two/week) and one's on a network no one really watches. These shows should be leading the way, but they aren't.
I agree with you WallCrawl in the different feel of the episodes, but I couldn't stop laughing about the cutout JD's and Man cards. Although Dr. Cox and the Janitor giving JD crap are always some of my favorite moments on the show.

The cardboard cutout gags were definitely the funniest part of the episode, and of course anytime Dr. Cox does or says anything it's bound to end up a Scrubs classic moment. :D

Don't dare compare Scrubs to that collection. Sure Earl is funny myabe now that it's on Thurdays I can actually watch it. I've said what I think about AD (I'm still glad it's going  ). Everybody hates Chris is sooo bland and not funny it's painful. The previews for it has all the good jokes. The episodes blow, it proves that if you take away the swearing Chris Rock ain't got nothin. And The Office, the British version sucked and the american one makes me want to put my boot through the TV.

The Office, Arrested Developement, Scrubs and maybe My Name is Earl are the funniest shows on TV. Coincidentally, or pehaps not, none of them are filmed before a studio audience.

Thinking about it more I think Scrubs is a little better than the Office and Arrested Development because while being extrememly funny, it can also turn on a dime into a very dramatic show. Everyone always talks about the funny in Scrubs and forget that there are more than a few dramatic parts. Some of the best are with Brendan Fraser's character

My favorite line tonight:
"When the water is poured on that little bastard's head, I swear to you, I will be there."
I'm not wild about J.D. calling Dr.Cox, Perry....I also don't care for Cox's beard.

Has John McGinley ever been nominated or won an Emmy or Golden Globe for Scrubs because if he hasn't that's a real crime. His first bit in the first episode and last line in the second were great, completely different, but both delivered perfectly.
Ted's band is back! And they're doing movie songs! :D :D :D
Great episodes though. I love how J.D. is calling himself Turk's Vanilla Bear now.

Great episodes. The Wizard of Oz tribute was cute, and handled in a way that wasn't too heavy-handed. As soon as you realized what they were doing, everything fell into place without being too clunky. One of my favorite episodes in a while.
And no, McGinley hasn't really won anything for Scrubs. I'm waiting on him to get a best supporting actor nod somewhere. He's perfect in his role.

Don't read if you don't wanna know what's going to happen..
Tonight, on Scrubs:
Mandy Moore plays someone who has the potential to be J.D.'s perfect love match; Elliot offers J.D. relationship advice and tries to help break his bad habit of ruining romantic moments by uttering really inappropriate things. Elsewhere, Turk lip-synchs in an “air band” made up of Sacred Heart regulars; and Carla encourages Dr. Cox to treat a Jehovah's Witness patient. Jordan: Christa Miller. Ted: Sam Lloyd. Lonnie: Michael Hobert.
and then..
J.D.'s friends and colleagues meet Julie (Mandy Moore) and absolutely adore her. Therefore, they worry that “commit-a-phobe” J.D. is going to ruin the relationship, especially after he begins saying his thoughts out loud. Meanwhile, Carla is fuming inside over not being pregnant after two months of trying with Turk. Billy Dee Williams. Jordan: Christa Miller. Mrs. Wilk: Michael Learned. Dr. Matthews: Jay Kenneth Johnson.

Great episodes tonight, Billy Dee Williams was awesome in that cameo, the air band stuff was great, relationship intervention, the one doctor getting busted and a bunch more stuff I'm probably forgetting. Only bad thing was the girl on girl kiss was ruined by Elliot in the JD wig.

I doubt he's been written out. He's a recurring gag the writers seem to love, and I'm willing to bet he'l appear again soon. Keep in mind that he Rowdy is only just a little more than a recurring gag/prop, so he can't be written out or off, perse. It's more like they pull him out for bits when they need him.

Oh yeah, that's happened to me. Same with movies on tv or variety shows you generally watch.
I remember a few years back Jay and Silent Bob Strike back was rented from blockbuster and I wasnt sure cause although I liked it I wasnt sure the others might, but my friend who hadnt seen it but liked Kevin Smith movies was like yeah let's check that out. Well a couple of the others liked a Kevin Smith movie (they didnt see all of them) so it kinda made sense. Anyway me thinking that everyone in college knew of Jay and Silent Bob was like yeah this is funny **** and they just sat there for the first 30 minutes not getting the jokes or the cross references, expressionless and almost embaressed to be watching.
I was into it but I noticed they werent feeling and I kept turning to my buddy and giving him a look like yo I thought you said they would like this and he gave them a look like "Man dont blame me he picked it" I was like "Muther****er you told me to get the damn movie!!!!" anyways they stopped watching after half an hour and then let the girls watch gay ass Footloose instead which oh they liked, Damn homos:mad:

Then don't watch it and don't bring it up just cause other people watch it.
Obviously, you must've watched it at one point to know that it's a "horrible show" so don't be a hypiocrite and be shocked when others do.
Or, if you've never seen the show and are just judging a conclusion based on what others have said, then that's even worse.

When Dr. Cox scoffs at reading lines with a patient preparing for a play, J.D. urges Cox and his fellow doctors to do special, unconventional things for their patients, but when J.D. scores a date with a hot babe who loves his hair, he's not sure he can shave his head for a woman undergoing chemo. Turk and Carla attempt to eliminate all the stress in their lives to better their chances of conceiving, but Turk has to compete for a surgical resident spot and Carla loses Dr. Kelso's VIP patient. Tonight on Scrubs! (spoilers do follow)
Turk accidentally learns that Carla is pregnant before she does, so J.D. convinces Turk to tell the entire hospital staff so they can all surprise Carla with the joyous news. But when Carla confides to Turk that she can't wait for the day when she can personally share her baby news with the world, Turk and J.D. have to quickly figure out how to contain hospital gossip until Carla can make the discovery on her own. Meanwhile, J.D. tricks the Janitor into swallowing a tiny GPS tracking device. When J.D.'s underachieving brother Dan (Thomas Cavanagh) returns for a surprise visit, Elliott learns that J.D. has been telling Dan that she's still into him, but when the truth comes out, Dan turns to the Janitor to get back at J.D. As everyone reacts to the pregnancy in different ways, Carla and Turk begin to discuss baby names, and despite his promise to Carla, Turk is unable to keep quiet about their initial choices. After assigning someone else to assist "sweaty Teddy" (Sam Lloyd) with incoming malpractice claim paperwork, Dr. Cox is caught off guard when Dr. Kelso steps in to stick him with the job. Maybe it's the comedy before and in between, but the show just works so well as a drama and comedy it's totally amazing. I'm with you Matt, the Todd's sexuality was funny, but Dr. Cox owned the episode. Can't wait till next episode cause it's supposed to deal with Cox's failure even more.
Oh man, thats gonna be rough on Cox. :(
Anyone else hope Elliot is somewhat effected by Jill's death? I mean, they bonded quite a bit during her stays...it seems stupid to have Elliot just shrug it off.

I think its a bit late now, it would have made sense for her to be depressed aswell. They had become friends and even if they'd grown apart she'd still be upset when she heard Jill died.

I've caught some episodes of ER, never seen Grey's Anatomy. One of the reasons Scrubs could have more impactive drama moments is because the characters are more real than the other shows.

Try season 8. There isn't one episode in that season where you don't feel like sad at the end. Especially Beyond Repair, The Beach and The Letter.

I agree 100%
John C. McGinley(Dr. Cox) is one of the most under-rated actors of all time. I want to see him in more things, at least not playing some a-hole (see: Se7en, Point Break). The only time I have seen him out of character in Identity, which he came off as more annoying then a talented actor.

McGinley probably isn't in much b/c he enjoys doing Scrubs now. Once that is over, he'll probably go back to movies or continue in TV. He is a great actor.
BTW, he was also in Office Space.

Just saw next week's summary on TV.com
Dr. Cox starts drinking after his decisions result in the death of three of his patients. The staff tries to cover for him at the hospital while everyone tries to convince him how inspiring he is for them. Turk starts his new rotation with orthopedic surgery, but isn't so fond of his attending doctor's touchy-feely methods. Thus, J.D. and the Janitor attempt to help Turk find ways to bond with his new supervisor.

He played a very un-McGinley character in Platoon.

Ya know, I downloaded this ep as soon as it became available on iTunes, and I can't stop watching it. The damn thing is brilliant.
Is anyone else sick of th entire Dr.Cox issue of the week this season? First it was Dr. Cox's father beat him and his sister. Now it is going to be Dr. Cox the alcoholic. I don't mind dramatic episodes (this episode was great)...but don't turn him into the poster boy for "very special episodes"

Dr. Cox>>> you
and that was a sad episode but Dr. Cox is the best character on the show so it's all good whether it's comedy or drama it's still compelling

I want Heather Graham to come back to Scrubs. I really did like Dr Molly Clock on the show.

Not really. He's only mentioned his problems, but they did touch on them when his sister came to visit and now this week. I hope Jordan is the one who brings him out his slump rather than JD.

Man, tonight was a really good episode. Johnny C deserves a freakin Emmy right now.
I agree 100%. I was actually thinking that at the end.

this show kicks so much ass. I can't wait to see how Cox handles this.
My favorite episode would have to be the one where Ben dies, because it's just so damn well-written, and so damn sad when you finally realize that he's gone. As somebody else said, Scrubs is able to hit that drama, and I think the reason is that we really feel involved with the characters, and know them so well. The writers are also just damn talented.

I think the drama in the show works so well because it always catches you offguard. The comedy disarms you, the show gets you into this nice easygoing state of mind that you're not expecting a dramatic moment. However, the dramatic moment is also handled without any heavyhandedness, it doesn't seem out of place because it was always lurking just beneath the comedy and works perfectly with the story.

I thought that was funny too. I wish the Donkey Boy was gonna be a subplot like the Pig Man in Seinfeld.
