Notes:
Psylocke was originally a telepath, had limited precognitive abilities, and was a psycho-blaster, able to direct mental energy as destructive mind blasts. After a brief period as Captain Britain -- in CB (2nd Series) #12-13 -- she was blinded by Slaymaster, and later received bionic eyes from Mojo in New Mutants Annual #2 which could compensate for intense light.
Matsu'o later commissioned Spiral to exchange Betsy's mind with the assassin Kwannon, and Psylocke gained a new Asian body with depleted power levels and the ability to generate a psychic knife in Uncanny X-Men #256. After Kwannon died in X-Men #31, her full potential returned.

When Archangel and Doctor Strange saved her life using the Crimson Dawn in Uncanny X-Men #330, Psylocke manifested mystically enhanced fighting skills and shadow-teleporting powers. Months later, in X-Men #78, Betsy was forced to shut down her telepathy in order to keep the Shadow King trapped within her mind. Later still, in an as-of-yet unexplained incident, her telepathic powers were transplanted into Jean Grey in exchange for Jean's own telekinetic abilities.

Psylocke was killed by Vargas in X-Treme X-Men #2, but spontaneously and mysteriously resurrected on the same spot in Uncanny X-Men #455. As a member of the Australian X-Men, Psylocke was once rendered invisible to all forms of electronic detection.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - The evil mutant assassin Psylocke has joined the lineup of "X-Men 3," the latest installment of the Marvel superhero franchise.
The character will be played by Filipina actress Mei Melancon, who previously worked with "X-Men 3" director Brett Ratner in "Rush Hour 2."
Word began leaking last week from the Vancouver set that "X-Men 3" would introduce Psylocke, who has had several incarnations in the Marvel comic book series and is best known for her fighting and telepathic skills as well as an ability to transport herself and others through shadows. In the film, she will fight against the X-Men as a member of Magneto‘s ( Ian McKellen ) Brotherhood of Mutants.

The role is probably very minor, which is consistent with the actress’s limited resume of bit parts.

As the scooper reported seeing the actress onset a couple weeks ago, so who knows how longs she has been filming her scenes.

With the news of “Psylocke sightings,” Fox PR probably just finally confirmed the casting.

Betsy's one of my favorite X-Men, but personally, I was hoping they would save her for the Wolverine movie. Eh, well. Either way, it'll be nice to see her on the big screen.

As much as I like the charcter, it's getting somewhat obnoxious. I mean..I know that Psylocke won't be a main character, but it kinda contridicts what Kinberg and Penn said about 'cameos' and name dropping.

While Penn may have been right, and how it's better to use real mutant characters instead of "mutant extra 23", I think that there's more than meets the eye....TO QUOTE THE TRANSFORMERS.

I don't know if I like this or not. Psylocke, among others we've heard about deserve better than this. Now she's just on Mags team doing who knows what for how many minutes...maybe seconds.

It makes me wish Gambit doesn't end up in the film, if he's going to get the same treatment. I don't really like his character much, but he's a major character that deserves better than that, and fans would probably be angry if it was something of no importance. Now I understand Avi Arad's comments (if he wasn't lying). :p

Of course maybe Psylocke has a worthwhile cameo role? Can't jump to conclusions, but if it's just a really tiny cameo with no major purpose for importance, maybe they should've stuck with more obscure characters for this purpose? Psylocke is a major character in the Marvel universe.

I'm very happy about this news. This made my morning. From everything we've seen i'm guessing her role is probably not as big as Callisto's or Juggernaut but maybe she'll be in a major fight scene and be seen throughout the movie in little pieces with a line or two of dialogue.

She's one of my favorite x-men and I never EVER thought she'd get into any of the movies so this is good enough for me.

I don't really see the big deal with Psylocke. When I used to read comics, her character wasn't really that big. Except for the fact that she fought evil-doers practically half naked. I distinctly remember in 2002 a certain canadian was casted as Piotr Rasputin, and lo and behold, he was in an extra/cameo role. Know what you are talking about before you say it....

Yea, I do think the Jim Lee costume was a great improvement. Jim Lee was THE reason I got into comics back in the 80s. But the point I was trying to make was that Psylocke was never really an important character. To me she was just something to look at. That's why ppl paid attention to her.

To be fair, I'm not really complaining about her being in the film, just complaining about the cameo/henchman status of some of these characters. yeah i agree plus they'll probally recast the role if there is an x4 (hopefully caucasian). its not like it would be bad continiuty cause the cameo is like 4 seconds long. but some may argue (then why not gambit??? why not have him in a cameo?)

I´m not exactly thrilled that her part in this movie lasts about a nanosecond. But I do understand that Psylocke is a very complicated character and it would take a lot of time to explain her slighty difficult past. It would "steal" screentime from far more important characters than her. So I just have to be happy that i get to see my favourite character... even if it is just for few seconds. :) And if they make x4 she might get a bigger role. Maybe even a diffrent actress. But I do think/hope that Mei will do fine and she gets to continue.

I was bored so I went through all of Hockeyhero's posts regarding psylocke and decided to gather them all together. I was mostly looking for the description of the "look" for the character.




Guys! I have been doing extra work for XMEN 3 and we have been shooting at this set called "alcatraz" and I know for sure that there IS a Psylocke her name is Mei Melancon I don't know if she has done a lot of stuff, I looked on IMDB and it is mostly TV stuff on there but she looks really cool! This short purple hair and purple eyes and kinda strappy looking stuff on her arms. I talked to her because she came over to the extra tent and I saw the call sheet (which I am not suppose to) well, I hope you guys believe me. I didn't get to ask her any questions about the part, BUT she has some kind of asian in her and the Crimson red mark over her eye! She is probably early 20's i think it will be Totally awesome. Well let me know what you guys think or if anyone else knows anything let me know!

Those pictures of her look like they are taken from a bad angle, I agree if I saw her just in those pictures I would not like her either. But she is tall at least 5'8and very thin but shapy. She is very hot and I don't usually go for asian girls but I don't think she is full asian. Those pictures don't do her justice I promise you guys are not going to be dissapointed. I was working as a stunt double/extra for awhile and I wrapped this week. Ask me a question and if it doesn't point who I am I will answer. I have always loved psylocke and right when she came in I could tell that is who she was her outfit was so great.

From what I remember she had a purple or black corset? is that what it is called? The thing that makes a girls waist look really small and hourglass and she also had leather straps on her arms, they might of been tied, a brown shirt underneath and her stomach showing and motorcyle boots it was hard to tell because it was dark what color they were and a black necklace. She had a tattoo mark on her neck too I think the asian guy had one on the back of his head. It is called the Omega mark I think but don't quote me. It looks like a horseshoe. A lot of the different mutants had them pasted on them. She came in with the supermodel girl and was hanging out for a little while. I have only worked on second unit so I only got to see some stuff. One scene they were running really fast and some of the soldier extra's had to get out of the way. There were also cars being fired in the air, one day. I think Magneto is throwing them. There are about 100 extras it seems like.

That Tweedy girl looks a lot older then the girl that I saw. You know when you see someone in person it is just different, she was really funny jocking around with that Omyhr girl. When I saw the imdb photo I dont think it did her justice. maybe there will more pictures somewhere of her. The only thing is that her hair looked cool in the front cause it was all piecy but I thought it was too short in the back I wish it was a little longer. it was black and purple. Well, i wont say any more.

Uncanny X-men issues #256 - 257, Its really not explained except for a bunch of pictures of Psylocke in a holding cell, but she becomes an assasin for The Hand (as their replacement from Elektra who had recently been murdered by Bullseye) and begins laying the smack down on her fellow X-men in order to collect ten rings. Yes, she kicks Storm's @ss, Colossus' @ss, Dazzler's @ss, and Rogue's @ss. Wolverine confronts her in issue 257 and gets his @ss handed to him. And without warning, she turns on Mandarin and kicks his @ss, once again joining the X-men. I don't know. I think she was under some sort of mental stress:o

It really is lazy writing/story telling to have one of your foremost heroes as a villain especially based on once-in-a-while ;) instances from the comics. I was thinking about who else could be included this the other day and Psylocke came to mind. While I agree she is a huge part of the comic world, and one of my faves, I don't think she has much of a place in the movies. Doing the combo version, including making her a villain, is a good way to make her unique and include her. I'm all for it.

(However, since they are making the combo version, that does make her more unique so maybe her part could have bigger. :( In another movie without a dozen other characters.)

Honestly, I think it's better to keep her part smaller. She may be a big part of the comic world, but there are too many other characters that are bigger. Hopefully this will lead to something bigger as a hero later on.

I'm torn between "I wish they had made her British and told the story of how she became Asian" and "I understand why they didn't".

It's very telling that Worthington Sr. was, at one time, thought to be the main villain. And of course we know that it's him that triggers the production of the Cure.

That is why i don't get why a lot of people actually think that anyone who is administered with the Cure will be cured permanently. We already know Magneto's position with the cure. I doubt Xavier and his X-men is for it either. We can't have our heroes fight against something that is beneficial to the lot. So there's something else to the Cure.

One thing has crossed my mind (apologies if already mentioned): If main filming has wrapped, how come Mei has just been announced as being in it as Psylocke? Surely they will have filmed all the scenes that may involve her - the mansion, lab, forest, prison and bridge scenes are already in the can, aren't they?

Does this mean they they cast her ages ago but are revealing characters bit by bit, drip-feeding us with information to keep us going to the actual release? Well, this is a Superhero movie, so why not go over-the-top with the visualization of superpowers? American are too restrained when it comes to that. That´s why Hong Kong/Japanese fantasy movies are way more visually interesting. Casshern is a great example.

I'm all for Psylocke splitting open a sentinel in half with her teke katana.

Visually I think the knife would look cooler than the katana. The sword might just come off looking like a pink lightsaber. Unless they find a neat way of doing it.

Would you rather have 5 seconds of her in this film, or never see her. We wouldnt see her in any sequels. If we finally get Beast/Angel/Juggernaut in the 3rd film, how long would it take to get Psylocke?

I never was a fan of Psylocke to begin with, so I really don´t care that much. And 5 seconds? C´mon, she can be any generic mutant for all I know. Besides... a Ninja with Psychic Daggers? More like Wolverine with Electric Claws. And we already had Lady Deathstrike on X2, so who needs more of the same? Plus, they´ll be dropping all the Mojo + X-Babies subplot, the camera eyes and stuff, so why bother?

At least 2/3 of them are perfectly expendable, derivative, boring or just plain silly. Psylocke is among my "eh" characters, even if I stopped reading the book WAY before she was de-Excaliberized.

So you are saying that there are better characters, in your opinion, that should be in X3 for 5 seconds? Fine, thats your opinion. But in saying that, you are telling the thousands of Psylocke fans who have wanted to see her in an Xmen film since X1 came out that we shouldnt have her. We might as well see her pull off some shadow moves, then cut to another character. Whats the worse that can happen? Give the fans something to have, to cherish. One of the fav parts of X2 for many fans was Colossus. He was in it for what, a minute?

I would not get too excited about Psylocke being in the film. I had a preview last night and she has a very small part in the film. Very little action from her just a lot of standing around.

Psylocke is one of my favorite characters and she gets absolutely no respect in X3. Mei is hot and I like her as Psylocke but the role is wasted. She doesn't even use psi-blades!

After the movie I said to my friends: "At least they didn't kill Psylocke as I read they would!". And on of them said: "Yes, they did. Phoenix turned her into ashes when she was on the balcony/roof." Fck.

i really was pissed when they killed psylock, but might i recall that the scene zoomed in at quill and arclight as they turn to ashes they didnt show psylock, maybe she vanishes into the shadows, lol.
