Recasting the X-Men

If you had to recast each member of the X-Men from the first film to X3 who would your back up's be? I'll submit my answers later but I'm hoping to see what others think because it'll be kind of fun to see what we come up with and more will pop up at the same time.

From A-Z.

Some of them are hard because Kelsey is the perfect Beast and Patrick Stewart is Professor X and will be the hardest to switch. I think it'll be easier to accept someone else replacing Jackman as Wolverine than Proessor X. I know it's hard to get passed what we're used to but it's gonna happen at some point be it in X4 or X8. Choose from actors that are old enough to play the role today not 10 years ago and not 10 years from now.

Not that I'd ever want to recast most of the already established cast, but I thought this would be fun anyway. Obviously this isn't everyone. I was drawing a blank on certain characters (like Beast). Also, some of the younger members I had trouble with because I don't know many good, young actors.

rogue: if they went older, evangeline lilly would be nice (and proof that a hot rogue does not mean we just want dumb boobaliciousness). younger, they could just cast anyone. anna paquin looks as much like rogue as anyone.

i really liked that most of the real cast was relatively unknown when x1 came out. so i chose accordingly and only picked people who, IMO, can act.

Jeremy Irons was my pick for Magneto and should have been Magneto from the start. I like the idea of Rutger Hauer too.

My choice for Wolverine is none other than Jason Statham and I think he SHOULD replace Jackman which would give Wolverine a much more physcially capable actor.

he can VERY easily pass off as old enough. he's what, in his 50's? and he can certainly have a "dignified air about him". it's all in the acting, and let's face it, if Stewart can do it, so can Spacey.

Proffesor X-Jason Issacs HE plays a good villain but I think he could easily pull off the part as a more passionate aggresive charles Xavier that I dont think Patrick Stewart pulls off.Also thought about what it would be like to cast him as an african-american and thought Avery Brooks would be great.

Magneto-Jeremy Irons I love the fact that other people beat me to the punch but I think he would be very good

Cyclops-I really like Billy Zane hear.may not be the physical perfect type but I think would give the character more flare and charisma(I do like James Marsden though)

Jean Grey-CLaire Forlani is definetly my pick here although I think Rachel wiez wouldnt be bad either..Just think Forlani gives Jean more spunk.

My not naked mystique would be either Juliana Marguilles From ER or the ageless Selena Ward.

Nightcrawler- alexander siddig would be my first choice(played in deep space nine and also is in syrania.

Beast-gotta go with kelsey but definetly think sam neill could pull it off and if you wanted a younger beast why not Jason Mathew Smith from THe espn show Playmakers.

Professor X was never an old man in the comics.

If in the 60's or 70's they wrote Professor X as being a 17-year-old in the Korean war, they only meant for him to be at most in his late 30's when he founded the X-Men, probably not more than 20 , and possibly as little as 15 years older than his oldest students in the founding team.

Neither Patrick Stewart, and especially not Terry O'Quinn posess any other relatively uncommon physical characteristics that make them anything close to "perfect" for the professor other than being bald, which anyone with a bic can become.

Stewart is atleast in the approximate right shape (on the leaner, but built side). But he's also the wrong freaking nationality and without the comfort to immitate the right nationality enough that Singer had him do just that.

The perfect actor would have the hard-featured eyes and eyebrows and lips and concave forehead that the most common representations of the character have had. And they'd have been American or able to do a damn good American accent.

To elaborate: I think that Locke from "Lost" would add a new degree of darkness and intregue to Xavier. We don't want someone who will be a Stewart copy-cat. If we've gotta have a new actor for Xavier (which frankly, I don't think will ever be the case...), it should be someone with a vastly different approach to the character.

Professor Xavier is a genuinely creepy character. No matter how benevolent he is, you're always thinking about his psychic powers. Harris could sound powerful and noble while still maintaining a hint of creepy.

Since casting well knowns has caused nothing but problems, Id do it properly and as I always said.

Unknown or little known actors in the early 20s. This would also allow for multiple sequels and let us watch the team grow and mature.

If I had to recast these people, the only ones Id keep would be Paquin and prob Jackman as Wolv should appear older than the others.

No damn Halle and no Famke (shes too old)

Brian singer was toying with the idea of filming 2 moives at once and I also think LOTR has shown this is really a great way to do films like this. keeps budget down and wait time is less which means your hitting the people with another sequel while the previous are still fresh in their minds.

I think Iman is Storm pretty much; she has: the height, the ethnic look, the accent and the overall presence of Storm. I saw her recently on an awards show and she looks GOOD. All I and my sister could say is "That's Storm."

I really like Kate Bosworth as Alison and James Franco as Kurt - nice job on this :up: I don't agree with all your choices, but can tell you put a lot of thought and time into it. I'm currently working on something similar in my spare time - casting the characters in my AU, mostly with models, since there is so much more variety than with actors. And since it's fantasy, and fic to boot, it doesn't matter if they can act, have an accent, or are dead (I always think of a bald Gregory Peck, circa Mockingbird, when I think of Charles :)

I kind of agree there.. Cyclops is a hard character to cast. You want someone who's at least semi well-known, but not a major star. Plus, he needs to show emotion without eyes, so a good actor needs to take it. All that in mind, I just couldn't think of anyone.

Professor X was never an old man in the comics.

If in the 60's or 70's they wrote Professor X as being a 17-year-old in the Korean war, they only meant for him to be at most in his late 30's when he founded the X-Men, probably not more than 20 , and possibly as little as 15 years older than his oldest students in the founding team.

Neither Patrick Stewart, and especially not Terry O'Quinn posess any other relatively uncommon physical characteristics that make them anything close to "perfect" for the professor other than being bald, which anyone with a bic can become.

Stewart is atleast in the approximate right shape (on the leaner, but built side). But he's also the wrong freaking nationality and without the comfort to immitate the right nationality enough that Singer had him do just that.

The perfect actor would have the hard-featured eyes and eyebrows and lips and concave forehead that the most common representations of the character have had. And they'd have been American or able to do a damn good American accent.

I know nits close to the comics but a 5'3 Wolverine would look freaking ridiculous. IF they're re-casting, then a 5'10-5'11 Christian Kane would be the perfect mix.
