Hidden off to one side, almost casually dumped while it awaits the next shot, is something that makes the inner geek jump for joy: a full size sentinel head. It will be features in something that has only been a pipe dream for the films- a Danger Room training sequence.

Gorder enlists visual effects supervisor (and regular James Cameron co-worker) John Bruno to enlighten us: " It's full size practical/ It really is, we've built the set...Simon [Crane, second unit director] flew Halle, flew Wolverine in some sequences. We have something called a Fastball Special that's part of the Marvel Universe, done for real. Basically it's a Terminator 2 landscape...I've been there and I was having some flashbacks when we were shooting it."

Production designer Ed Verreaux is just as eager to talk Sentinels. "We took the design from the comics. We were having this meeting with Brett and there were a whole bunch of Sentinel designs done for X2. And I was showing those to him just to get a starting point, and he said, "No, no, no." And I said, "Well, what about this?" And I showed him one of the comic versions and he saud 'Yeah, like THAT."

Do you see the humans target-practicing the tripods in War of the Worlds before they came to? No. I want the Sentinels to be a surprise in the final battle.
