Maybe it's to protect his neck, like a neck brace, when he know's he's gonna be doing a lot of fighting/ramming. Especially when he's ramming, I imagine that if he rammed through walls without that around his neck he'd break/crush his neck but if he wears that thing it'll protect it.

Why does everyone hate Dakota Fanning?

I have no qualms with her acting ability. In fact, I thought her performance in WOTW was actually pretty solid. She did a decent job in Uptown Girls as well. I didn't much care for the movie, but she plays her roles well. My I have two issues forever. First, she may actually be a child of the corn. Second, I had a female roomate for a while (not a girlfriend, just a girl that was living with me and some other guys in a 5 bedroom house) that looked exactly like dakota fanning as a young adult. Said roommate signed the contract with us before we really knew her, and she turned out to be a complete psycho. And by psycho, I mean she literally killed one of her pet paretkeets via neck breakage and tried to cover it up. So Dakota Fanning reminds me of my old roomate, who is the reason I lock my room at night.

I think there was an old script draft that was gonna show Beast's transformation, but I don't think they'll do all of that...
