View Full Version : Mageina Tovah aka 'The Chocolate Cake Girl' Is Back!

Retroman

The actress -Mageina Tovah- who played the infamous role of 'Ursula Ditkovich' (Landlord's daughter aka 'Chocolate Cake Girl') in Spider-Man 2 is back in SM3. I stumbled upon this interview she did last year where she said this. I know the interview itself is a little 'old' but after doing a few searches i couldn't find any evidence that this was ever posted here or at any other website.

From the Toronto Star:
In the meantime, he has a lot to keep him busy. Including plans to direct his own film, using a script he's writing around his Waterborne co-star and close friend Mageina Tovah, 24.

"I'm writing this script right now. I've fallen so mad about Mageina, I'm writing this part for her. I just think it's an incredible part. And I'm really ready to direct."

Tovah inspires her own double takes. She had a small part in Spider-Man 2 as the Russian neighbour to Tobey Maguire.

A lot of fans figure that was a tip by Spider-Man writer/director Sam Raimi that Tovah is going to play the role of Black Widow in the third Spidey film. Black Widow is a Russian spy who becomes a superhero.

"I don't know," Tovah herself said coyly. "Sam Raimi told me there's a part for me in Spider-Man 3, but I don't know if it's big or small. We'll see."Source: http://thenextattack.com/ftp/Press/TorontoStar-Can_Uncle_Rico_protect_LA.pdf

UPDATE
Mageina's official site confirms she's in the movie and that she's just wrapped filming.

Mageina has just finished filming Spider-man 3, due out May, 2007 and Live!, a film with Eva Mendes, (Hitch, 2 Fast 2 Furious, Once Upon a Time in Mexico), and David Krumholtz, (Numb3rs, 10 Things I Hate About You).

Mageina recently won the Method Fest's Best Supporting Actress award for her role in the film Dark Heart.

Her film Bickford Shmeckler's Cool Ideas with Patrick Fugit, John Cho, Olivia Wilde and Matthew Lillard, is making the film festival circuit, catch it at a festival near you!

I actually liked the cake scene. For once, Raimi actually used silence to get a point across (versus having a 20 minute speech based on completely obvious statements).

In some respects this might be good. It means they didn't rapidly advance the romance. Pete and MJ will actually be dating for the first time, and won't be living together (which to me also suggests no marriage at the end  ).

On the other hand, if Pete's still in that apartment, it leaves room for more "comic relief" with the landlord and Ursula (remember her scenes other than the Cake scene... her "ackward, bumbling" sort of presence?

I also thought Tovah did a good job with her klutzy cute character.

If she's in SM3, I'm sure it will be a very quick scene where Ursula passes MJ on the stairs to Peter's apartment and gives MJ a dirty look or something funny like that.

THAT MEANS PETER IS STILL IN THAT S**TTY APARTMENT AFTER 3 FRICKIN YEARS!!!!
Do we have confirmation that SM3 is supposed to take place three years after SM2? I don't think so...

Hmmm... so the chocolate cake girl is back, eh? Will there be more chocolate cakes to eat or will she offer a mocha one instead? Would she gain weight? Would Raimi redesign the character because most viewers found her first appearance "unsatisfying"? Will she wear a mask? The possibilities are endless...

I read in an interview with Raimi that the movie will take place immediately after part 2 ended. I don't know if he means it will begind uring the last swing of spider-man 2 or the next day or what. Becaues I do wonder what is up with those fake looking helicopters in the last scene.

I love it, it means Peter is still in that roach nest of an apartment, I love my Peter Parker to be poor. No moving on up to the East Side crap. I hope MJ/Peter are living in sin. But at the same time, I hope MJ career is taking off and she's making some really good money--and want to move out of the roach infested apartment. I'm just glad my Peter is still poor, I couldn't take him living in Harry's rich ass condo.

On the other hand, if Pete's still in that apartment, it leaves room for more "comic relief" with the landlord and Ursula (remember her scenes other than the Cake scene... her "ackward, bumbling" sort of presence?

I'm hoping they do advance the relationship between Peter and MJ. For me, the extreme sets up the Redhead to Heaven in 2007 storyline the best, assuming that is where they plan to take it.

I think/hope we will get to see the relationship advancing, with some bumps along the way (MJ dealing with Peter risking is life for nothing, how it impacts their time, them struggling financially, depending on MJ's meager earnings and whatever scraps Peter can get from the Bugle and JJ, Aunt May suffering at the same time... and HOPEFULLY (although it should of been in SM2 damnit with Ock)... Peter coming home beaten and battered... barely able to drag himself through the window and into bed). And of course... Dealing with the situation with Harry that the three of them face.

But, show them growing stronger together through all this. And have Gwen there as a friend from college, helping Peter out with all the time he has to miss due to webswinging (not that she knows mind you), being kind of a shoulder for Peter to lean on when times with MJ get tough (without making MJ seem like a biatch either)... AND PLEASE SAM!!!... Intro the Captain too.

So, basically, even with the hard times, they manage to get through in SM3, and even grow, maybe with Gwen helping Peter to realize... how much he loves MJ... all leading to... yes (takes a deep breath)... a planned (planned being the key word here) wedding.

Basically... finally everything looks like its coming up roses... and then...

ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE.... Harry snaps and the real show... "begins"

So I was thinking why something as important as having the "chocolate cake girl" is a huge thing and I realized why she's back.
We all saw the way Peter looked at her, and we all know we saw lust in her eyes when she sat across from him while he ate that cake, so it only leads to one conclusion....
Peter is going to be caught up in a love triangle consisting of MJ, Gwen, and the loveable "Chocolate Cake Girl".
The way I see it is, that Peter will "get to know" all three of them quite personally. But, he'll realize that CCG isnt what he was looking for but did enjoy their "company." However, he'll enjoy his company with Gwen and MJ equally and is ultimately torn between them, but when Gwen meets her untimely end he goes back to the tried and true Mary Jane Watson.

I swear, it's going to happen.

The Spider-Man films, especially Spider-Man 2, take many leaps in logic, especially concerning the villains:

-Peter becomes friends with Doc Ock. Peter sees Doc Ock have accident. Spider-Man fights Doc Ock. Peter Parker shows no remorse after the accident, and doesn't hesitate to fight Doc Ock despite having lunch with the very same man a few days ago.

-Peter refuses to be with MJ at the end of Spider-Man, but is desperate to get her to go out with him in Spider-Man 2.

-Harry has recently found out his best friend is Spider-Man, has seen a vision of his dead father, found out his father is the Green Goblin, but he still attends MJ's wedding. Aww.

It is very possible that Raimi could have Harry be conveniently waiting for 3 years before becoming GGII.

Doc Ock was robbing a bank and threw a freakin' vault door nearly killing Peter and May. Peter is Spider-Man. So he's supposed to not stop him from robbing a bank because he liked the guy as a person? In the end at the dock, he takes off his mask and talks to him as Peter Parker realizing that he can now reason with Ock.

-Peter refuses to be with MJ at the end of Spider-Man, but is desperate to get her to go out with him in Spider-Man 2.

Okay, let's clarify this for a second. In SM1 Peter didn't "refuse" to go out with her, he simply didn't want her to get too close to him now that he was this hero. That doesn't mean he didn't love her. And then in SM2 when he starts to see that this life as a hero is giving him no life of his own and he gives it up, he then tries to go back to her, and she rejects him because she's trying to move on from the pain of his rejection.

-Harry has recently found out his best friend is Spider-Man, has seen a vision of his dead father, found out his father is the Green Goblin, but he still attends MJ's wedding. Aww.

Number one: we don't know how long after that discovery (of the Goblin secrets) the wedding was. So Harry could have...for lack of a better term, "cooled down" by then. Number two: MJ was his friend. So he went to support his friend as she was becoming a bride. In his mind, she had nothing to do with Peter anymore.

I wonder if, when, and how... Peter will put it together that the new Goblin is Harry. God... I hope they're talking. I hope we get the full Goblin treatment this time, now that Harry knows Peter's secret. Mind games and all.

I wonder if, when, and how... Peter will put it together that the new Goblin is Harry. I think, we will not see the Goblin in costume til near the end and I suspect it will be extremely clear to Peter who is behind the mask, after (I hope) the mind games Harry plays on Peter and his beloved ones. MANNNN... Gonna be sooo frickin Good. (if done right SAM....  )

i'm sure peter well know its harry. if he knows it was harry's father who was the green goblin, and now theres a new one, his first guess would be its harry. especially all that time harry was plotting revenge on spider-man. so no mystery there for peter i think.

Yep. Kinda the way I'm leaning too. But it's a slam dunk IF Harry is already playing mind games in sheep's clothing (as Harry not GG2) with Peter, MJ, Gwen, Aunt May, JJ... others. THOSE... should be some excellent scenes if done right, and really give all actors involved a chance to shine... and stretch from their normal roles.

Doc Ock was robbing a bank and threw a freakin' vault door nearly killing Peter and May. Peter is Spider-Man. So he's supposed to not stop him from robbing a bank because he liked the guy as a person?Um.. yeah. That's what Spider-Man would do in the comics. Talking something out of doing something is a lot safer for both of you rather than fighting. In the end at the dock, he takes off his mask and talks to him as Peter Parker realizing that he can now reason with Ock.Yeah, after electrocuting him.

Well, Peter Parker from the comics would never do that. He would never try to go out with her again. He'd mope from afar, but not try again. He realises that MJ would be in danger if he is with her. Movie Peter Parker is so selfish, that he is willing to go out with MJ because he was 'tired' of being a superhero, putting her in danger.

You don't understand. Harry had just went insane. He saw and talked to his dead father. He found the Goblin equipment. You don't get over that.

The Spider-Man films, especially Spider-Man 2, take many leaps in logic, especially concerning the villains:

No more leaps than any other superhero based movie IMO.

-Peter becomes friends with Doc Ock. Peter sees Doc Ock have accident. Spider-Man fights Doc Ock. Peter Parker shows no remorse after the accident, and doesn't hesitate to fight Doc Ock despite having lunch with the very same man a few days ago.

Peter had lunch with Octavius. Spider-Man was trying to stop Doc Ock who was in the middle of robbing a bank, and had already placed serveral lifes in jeopardy in the process. Doc Ock initiated the fight at the bank too, prior to any discussion.

And besides, it's a movie. Did you expect them to settle the first fight through talking? It was bad enough with the final battle (and they still battled in that one, if you can call it a battle, as it was puny compared to the others in the film).

-Peter refuses to be with MJ at the end of Spider-Man, but is desperate to get her to go out with him in Spider-Man 2.

I'll agree it did not say hero with the approach they used for the Spider-Man No More storyline, as compared to the comic, but as we both know (unfortunately), the movie version is ALL about ONE girl. Peter saw that he was losing MJ, and losing the battle for his life with being Spider-Man, and the mental effects (*yuk*) we're resulting in the power losses (Big Yuk).

It would of been better IMO IF Peter had made the decision without the power loss bit, but whatever. The point is, he thought he was done with being Spider-Man at the point he went back after MJ (you know, the love of his life). Could he have possibly known that there would still be danger since he was not that long removed from being Spidey, perhaps, but it's nitpicking IMO there, and again, a movie where the Damsel in Distress... must be put in "distress".

-Harry has recently found out his best friend is Spider-Man, has seen a vision of his dead father, found out his father is the Green Goblin, but he still attends MJ's wedding. Aww.

Yes. So what? Maybe he had plans to confront Peter at the wedding. Maybe he wanted to confront MJ about Peter at the wedding. Maybe.... he had not completely snapped yet. Maybe he had completely snapped and was now in the process of playing mind games with Peter and/or MJ. As in a toast to the new couple that included Peter and how many secret lives or loves some have?????

Who knows?? Who cares???? You're really grasping at straws with this one IMO.

It is very possible that Raimi could have Harry be conveniently waiting for 3 years before becoming GGII.

Anything's possible, but IMO, that is VERY unlikely.

I love chocolate cake girl. They should have t-shirts and stuff.

Chocolate Cake, Chocolate Cake
Does whatever a cake can take!
Is is strong? Listen Bud,
It's strong enough to fuel Parker's blood
Look out!! Ursula's got cake....

But seriously, to all of you who dissed Ursula, consider this:

"And speaking of the love story, it is the most frustrating love story I've had to sit through since Forrest Gump. MJ really reminds me of Jenny from Forrest Gump because she is always dissing Peter Parker, and even though she "claims" to love him, she has no problem running around with other guys and getting engaged and stuff like that. It is not until she sees him in his Spider-Man suit that she realizes what she's missing and comes running back. Man...if I was Spider-Man, I'd be like, "Screw you MJ. I'm going out with Chocolate Cake Girl!" Chocolate Cake Girl is introduced in this movie as a young, waif-like daughter of Parker's landlord who, although terribly shy, musters up the courage to offer Peter some chocolate cake. Personally, I thought she was much hotter and much nicer than MJ, hence my statement. Most importantly, Chocolate Cake Girl liked Peter for who he was WITHOUT knowing about his Spidey Powers. A girl who likes you for who you are, even when your nothing, AND brings you chocolate cake is pretty much the perfect woman if you ask me."-http://www.the-reel-mccoy.com/movies/2004/Spider-Man2.html

I think chocolate girl's character will be used a little more. Her crush will grow on peter. I don't think peter will ever have the same feelings for her, but the audience will feel sorry for her. And I think she will die in this one. I think their plan is for pete and MJ to break up, and Gwen will be the new love interest for future movies. I think they wont kill off MJ, and leave the possibility of her coming back later down the road. Because I think Dunst will ultimately change her mind about the franchise.

i thought the scene with the chocolate cake girl was very good and served as an uplifting experience for peter when he was at his lowest, maybe the same thing will happen in this movie or they will show peter's negative reaction as a way to show how the symbiote is affecting him

Yeah I know, but she needs some love too. Gwen never made peter any cake and heh, we might as well burn the comics during a cold day in december. they don't really weight in much regarding the films...
Ohk...the comics are deffinitely a huge influence on these films. Sure the movieverse doesn't mirror the comics 100%, but every character yet far has had pretty good justice when it comes to their comic counterpart. UNTIL...that is we saw GG2:down

Don't knock skinny chicks. In a lot of asian models it is a good thing to be skinny. Now that I think of it....American and European models think the same way.

Regardless, I'd gladly take some chocolate cake from a cute chick in my apartment.

If Peter doesn't end up with Gwen he should end up with this girl. Ursala's her name, right?

not just the character or their style choice, but when you look at it from a height, this'll be the least like the comics out of all the films. that's why I think accuracy is irrelevant when thinking of how making apple pie woman into gwen would be too much unlike the books. Gwens existence in this part of spidey's life is too much unlike the books, i believe.... so it squarely doesn't matter what happens to be changed. If I were making sm3, I'd have the symbiote do what he's doing here but with the Dunkin Donut Dame instead... sniff... oh well...

and yeh, this is usurla, the baking babe.

I actually liked the cake scene. For once, Raimi actually used silence to get a point across (versus having a 20 minute speech based on completely obvious statements).

Yeah, it was amazing.....subtlety in a Raimi movie?! What next?
