yeah but c'mon... your name has somethign to do with that opinion and that's what is driving me nuts about this thing already. I'm getting so many emails asking when I'm going to continue the "Nintendo vs. XBOX/PS" war and stuff. I mean, clearly I'm a Nintendo fan but I made this thing to be fun to watch also. I didn't mean to start an internet war... and that's exactly what's happened. Forget who your favorite is and enjoy it...

By the way... here's one of the MANY emails I've gotten... I laughed but I also thought it was flattering:

Fan-friggin-tastic!

I saw your Yahoo post and followed the iFilm link. Loved it.
Absolutely loved it.

I've got a Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance,
Nintendo 64, and Game Cube here at home, and I've played the hell out of
every one of them. The heart of the story, good gameplay vs.
blood/sex/violence, is one I'm really into.

Every few seconds, I was nodding and smiling at jokes that the lifetime
gamers get. (Luigi forgiving past differences with Sonic and his
gang... beautiful.) My boys (Michael and Joel), are following in their
father's footsteps in terms of borderline video game addiction. This
weekend, I'm going to sit down and watch it again with them.

And the ending... the last line... goosebumps. I **** you not.

Please pass on my compliments to the animator. Everything really came
together in this one. Congrats on a job well done!

The Zelda music was a pain the ass because there are about 8 billion awesome versions of it. Try Bearshare and search "Legend of Zelda" by artists like Apocalyptica, John Williams (it's not really him but that's what it's under), The Minibosses, etc... I SOOO wanted to use the temple of time music from 64 but it just didn't fit. CLASSIC.

You want me to explain why it sucked ass? Half the characters arent even Nintendo related and it kinda renders your point moot when Sega makes Sonic games for EVERY console. Thanks for your honesty... but dude, 4 days - 16,000 views. Check the reviews... I'm getting A++++ all up and down the boards. I'm getting emails from grown men telling me they were misty eyed (ridiculous, I realize that), emails saying "FINALLY", emails saying "I forgot how good they used to be", and emails saying "I WANT MORE NOW!". I understand the production quality wasn't up to par, and I explained the SONIC thing if you watch it... "bury past differences". Originally there was a line that sooner or later everybody had to choose a side but that was getting to anal, and it was meant to be fun, not a highly detailed, over analysis of games. Thanks for you honesty - I mean that, but I totally disagree with anybdoy who says "it sucks".

I went to see Underworld 2 today. While I sat watching it, over 12,000 people watched my short film. Trust me, I don't need to promote it anymore. It's the truth, not bragging, and not promotion. I'm discussing it because I just spent 4-5 weeks at a time working down in Texas (i live in Ohio) in order to be able to afford making this thing and a 16mm short film I have in the works. it's a huge part of how I spent the last few months... that's why I'm defending it. That, and I can honestly say I know it's good. I've made bad stuff before, and this isn't bad. If you don't wanna hear or read about it anymore, stop clicking on the thread.

Thats the damn point. Nintendo's games are meant to be fun, playing a game, not playing a damn movie. I can understand what you mean about Super Mario but the Legend of Zelda is starting to form a very deep plotline and continuity. Donkey Kong and Metroid already have continuity.

But Megaman is the only Sony reference in the whole darn thing. If he took that out, it would just obviously be a movie about a Nintendo fanboy who was mad at Halo, because I don't think there were any other Xbox characters there, either.

HALO is a GREAT game. So is MORROWIND. This thing is being way too over analyzed and the use of the word "fanboy" is as about insulting and silly as you can get. FanBOY? I'm a 24 year old man with a full time job who's a fan of games (not just Nintendo), movies, books, etc. Why even bother hurling that term at somebody like it's an insult? I made this thing because I do feel Nintendo is by far the superior product but that it's overlooked because everybody today feels they are too mature... and as a result, today's popular games are a dime-a-dozen. Anti-hero with mysterious origins, raspy voice, gun, etc. I sold GTA and Vice City the first day I bought them, but I kept Paper Mario forever. It's a shame everybody thinks something has to be "gritty" to be good. Just go buy Eternal Darkness, RE4, Animal Crossing, Paper Mario, Windwaker, Fire Emblem, Gladius, the Resident Evil 1 REMAKE (which is amazing), and Mario Kart Double Dash. Now I must be a "fanboy" for saying this, but nothing on the other systems besides for Halo, Morrowind, Shenmue, and from what I hear, San Andreas, come close to those games in fun factor. Keep in mind, I have an XBOX, PS, and a GAMECUBE and I'd had tons of games for each.

Oh, and to answer the HUGE amount of emails I've gotten asking if there will be a sequel or a feature, no there won't. Some other people have already informed me and hinted at doing stuff similar, and I'm sure some angry XBOX fan is already making a rebuttal or something, but I'm back to live action stuff now... it was fun but I've said my piece with it. Thanks for checking it out folks

Dude, the stuff before the cartoon got way better reviews than the toon itself did. I said it before... there's no point in "shameless promotion"... it's had over 170,000 hits in a week. No forum talk is gonna do that. Before the cartoon, Troma had just requested a copy of our last short film to consider for distribution and the executive producer of LORD OF THE RINGS requested he be the first to read our feature script when it's done. I don't need to self promote... quality stuff will carry itself.

Anyways... the one question I didn't get to answer was the "Where's the music from?" question I've gotten too many emails about to respond to. Here's the answer...

1) The Chronicles of Narnia - Harry Gregson-Williams: "Here Comes the King"
2) The Chronicles of Narnia - HGW - "The Battle"
3) Blackhawk Down - Hans Zimmer - "Leave no Man Behind"
thanks for enjoying it - Larry

LetsHangBendis
01-31-2006, 03:12 PM
Troma? Big name there. They'll distribute ANYTHING that constitutes a "film". As long as they can buy it so cheap that ANY sales will constitute a profit. Manos the Hands of Fate got distrubution. It's not an indication of quality.

And I'll just take your word on the Exec. Producer for LotR. Since there were like 8. And I'm guessing it wasn't Peter Jackson or the Weinsteins, aka the real ones, or you'd have mentioned them by name. Executive Producer is the credit they give you to shut you up in favor of actual credit. It certainly indicates some standing in the industry, but not a hell of a lot else.

Also, it gets hundreds of thousands of hits because your shameless self promotion got others to do it for you. That's how it works. If you leave it to be seen on it's own merits it will do just the same, but it will be honest.

Pretty cool... Highly entertaining, I think some of the good vibe (and bad) hype this clip gets is because of the message... and it's correctness... and how it's reflected in the sales of the Wii vs the PS3... for gamers, these are extremely touchy subjects.

Cuz honestly, while I thought it was a very cute film with excellent dialogue, I would never chose this over Grayson, or get misty eyed, even though I knew every character on there. I think a lot of the appeal of this movie comes from the ingeinous way the message, already believed in anyway, is delivered... the actual film itself strikes me as 'pretty good' not outstanding.

The Dialogue is deep though, I have to give it up for that.

I think the reason a lot of people on the Hype complain about this video is because we have a very pro-Microsoft base in the gaming forum and this movie takes the most shots at them being as they tend to be the graphic/violence whores.

Eh, I know they are now and not to knit-pick, but they aren't as much to me. I'll remember Ninja Gaiden more for it's NES games then I ever will for the Xbox versions. The first two Oddworld games for the playstation were brilliant, and the two ppl I know that played the Xbox version forgot about it pretty quick. Sam Fisher I'll give you though, but the other two aren't Xbox chars to me atleast.

The only problem I had was it was a bit too serious, it could have used just a bit more humor. Otherwise I liked it.

To be honest, as much as I KIND OF agree with the theme of the cartoon, it really is a big joke. Baby Mario and Luigi's speech is meant to be deep but we weren't taking it seriously at the same time. We knew it was retarded, that was sort of the tongue-in-cheek gag the whole time. The over dramatics were the joke, but they still had some heart too.

I like how all the characters are represented.

Very cool animation, wish it was longer though.

You want me to explain why it sucked ass? Half the characters arent even Nintendo related and it kinda renders your point moot when Sega makes Sonic games for EVERY console. Not to mention the designs were elementary school at best. And god, did I want to hit the voice "actors." The guy who did Luigi was particularly bad. Like I said, nice concept, terrible execution.

Translation - I am in my mommies basement right now crying with envy, & wishing that I could even draw a stick figure.

I thought it was alright. Didn't care for Luigi holding the plunger though, him on Yoshi would've been enough. Other than that, it was pretty funny.

7/10.
