This movie is going to kick ass! Even though it's not a comic book movie, it deserves it's own board! I can't wait for this movie! Trailer below...

Silent Hill movie trailer (http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1808718754/trailer)

For fans of the games, this has alot good going for it! The same guy that did the music for the games doing the music for this. They've got the atmosphere spot on from what we've seen so far, everything looks right. Great looking monsters straight from the game! And they're sticking very closely to the story.

Is this the most accurate and best game to movie translation?

This movie is one of the few movies I'm really looking forward to this year. It's pretty much just this, Superman Returns, and X-Men 3.

After too many video game adaptations by you-know-who this one looks almost like a masterpiece in comparison. One of the creepier trailers for a horror movie in a while. Hopefully it can be everything that Resident Evil wasn't

This does look like it could finally emerge as a quality move based on a computer game. I must admit, I do have high hopes for this and the trailer is partly responsible with that. I am trying to keep those hopes doewn a little though, as we all know the history video game movies have. I will certainly be checking this out though.

silent hill was always a better game than resident evil in terms of sheer unsettling imagery and scares....i always like the fact how the protagonists were never u know trained-to-kick-zombie-ass ppl, but normal u and i kinda people...
As far as the movie is concerned....i was alone in my dorm room when i first saw the trailer...suffice to say i am a scaredy cat....it looks amazing...like right out of the game....amzing visuals....when i saw that little peak of the pyramid head i was like o my god...i wu d like to think this is the movie that is going to change the whole game to movie thing...but chances are higher that this will be a one off and then things will resume to normal...eitherways cant wait to see this movie.

Looks like a painting about a freak, an old painting to boost. Which is creepy, and fascinating at the same time. Doesn't seem so bad to me. ;)

Oh, and it's not what looks like the most complex poster that makes it the most visually provoquing, but how they uses their techniques to disturb us.

What does it change that it could easily be done or not. Someone can, with 3D technology, and several days, make someone bald. Doesn't make it more scary than if I go and shoot with my camera with a very little budget (but with a great team and lots of talent) an old lady being raped by a white painted naked huge teeth monsters.

I mean, yeah, what you're saying, the creepiness and all...but, the shadow looks so UNREAL, that if handled for a bit longer and more care it probably would be a lot more frightening. Or they could have just make-uped her mouth and photographed her.

I knwo you're talking about the image, but with my spoiler I was just guessing. OMG IS IT TRUE?

Anyways. You'll see it eventually. That's the thing about pirate movies I don't get. People think they ar o cool if they have a big summer blockbuster on pirate, but if it is a big summer blockbuster, there's a fair chance it will be released on DVD with awesome features. I think piracy is only good in cases such as Fantastic Four 94 and rare movies, and movies out of copyright. Other than that there's no point. You'll se the movie anyway. Only if you'll never see the movie properly, should you watch/own a pirate copy.

Agreed. I have never liked pirate movie, they usually suck for one thing. But I enjoy going to the cinema, especially on a movie like Silent Hill, where the atmosphere in the cinema will help with the freakiness on the screen.

To me, that'd be a more scarier way to watch the movie.

I am afraid of the dark if I'm by myself, not so often now, but I still am, but when I'm with heaps of people I'm cool with it. I recommend seeing it in the theatre. That way, you can get desensitized to it all so you can enjoy it later on on DVD.

Unfortuantely, that's what happened with me and War of the Worlds...

I'm not holding my breath, not because video games movies have sucked (even though that's true), but because Hollywood just doesn't know how to make something scary anymore. It's all about how grossed out the audience can get. I find excessive gore and disgusting imagery only makes it easier to laugh at the goofiness rather than be scared. The Silent Hill games knew how to psychologically scare you (a rare find), Hollywood on the other hand doesn't. If they remain faithful to the game then it will work, but if they just make it a cheesey gorefest then I give up on horror completely.

Can you believe that before it seemed like a long wait, now we're so much closer to SH, X3, and Superman Returns? Time flies when you're not thinking about them as much.

However, Silent Hill looks great and I have a feeling it'll maintain the frightening atmosphere of the game.

Well they are actually adapting this game to film instead of just taking the idea of the game and making their own little spin of it. Pretty much what happened with every other videogame movie. Resident Evil could have been great but they had to change it around.

I remember when i was at university lol.. Me and my friend Jacklyn would sit down and play Silent Hill on the PS2 and she'd end up handin it to me because she got scared lol..

Only thing i hated about it was getting lost although to be honest i'm not all that keen on 'zombie' based movies.. Small town, no escape (in most cases) full of zombie type creatures and in this case an eary fog *shudders* lol...

I hate these kinda movies yet i'll still watch them by myself lol.. It's like my friend Stephany was like "Ohh this movie is scary don't watch it by urself!" so i watch it by myself anyhoo and end up thinking "Ummmmm yeh.. Real scary that... *yawning*"

To me scary is something that makes you alert and paranoid lol.. I much prefferre fear to gore.. Gore is a visual disliking but fear is both a visual and an emotional... Yeh that was just total crap.. I HATE that OTT action hero bull****.. Slow motion action scenes, etc..

Destroyes a movie... I think movies should have good CGI and camera effects to a certain extent but only to make the movie look and feel more realistic.. I like a movie that keeps realism to it because you can feel the fear better that way..

To me all them slow motion scenes like totally say "And now you're remembering it's a movie again!!" i hate when that happens!

I hope no one minds, but as per zer00's request, I have taken Armoured-Fury's post and...restyled it in my own little way. And, I can only hope, made it all the better for my effort.
I remember back fondly to my younger years at my alma mater. Oh what days they were! Me, and my contemporary Jacklyn would pull up a up chair and have a good spirited contest at video gaming. One such game we played was none other than Silent Hill itself. Sadly, innocent Jacklyn became oh so terribly frightened by the award-winning game's infamous thrills and chills.

I had some qualms about the video simulation myself - I seemed to develop the rather regrettable of losing my way inside the game's darkened corridors, and spooky forests.

Much like the game, I do indeed have one or two mental question marks about the forcoming film as well - caveat, if you will. Firstly, and dare I say, shocking, I have never been one for the genre know as Zombie cinema.

Secondly, due to my roguish, fearless nature the so-called "horror" of these films is anything but to me; I sit there with a sigh upon my breath, and sleep in my eyes as I watch attempt after attempt of scare pass unnoticed across my mighty tolerance for all that is wicked. This shocks many - my peers frequently warn be of the foreboding evils of watching these types of pictures alone for the fright they may induce, but has yet to come, my reader.

No, to truly scare a man (of female...I honestly don't know) of my high caliber, you must forgo the visuals, the scenes of mayhem, and instead attack me in the area in which I place the utmost importance one; my glorious mind. I demand highly intellectually fear, I demand paranoia, for that, is the true fear for me.

In closing, I would like to reminisce once again back, all the way back, to when I was a mere boy. One evening, as sat excitedly on my mother's knee, I caught my first glimpse of true fear. This fear came in the form of a film, film which will go nameless at this time but, suffice it to say, it was as if Satan himself reached up from the pits of hell and grasp me by my very gullet. The sounds that echoed from myself were near unspeakable; laughter. Actual laughter of unprecedented decibel echoed from me, oh yes it did, for that's good deeply the terror had gripped me.

Ah, what glorious times they were. Now, of course, I am much to noble to ever fall ill of such a terrible condition again, and, with those words, I will leave you.

Until next time,
Claude Rains

Well they are actually adapting this game to film instead of just taking the idea of the game and making their own little spin of it. Pretty much what happened with every other videogame movie. Resident Evil could have been great but they had to change it around.

how do you figure? they aren't taking the story from any one silent hill game, they're making their own... i've read that straight from the director. they're doing the same thing that resident evil did, same universe as the game, same ideas, different version. the only thing that silent hill has in common with the games that we can see so far are the bad guys and the town's name. hm... kind of like resident evil, now that i think about it.

How do you figure? It's pretty much the first game's story from the looks of it, with a woman instead of a man, and a bit of Silent Hill 2 thrown in.

Resident Evil was pulling things out from nowhere.

The only thing different I see is a female lead. Is there something I am missing?? And I know the movie isn't going to be EXACTLY like the games but pretty damn close.

No Mr. Credible. That's not right.

We're trying to explain to you that Silent Hill the movie has stuck very close to the games. There are minor changes, like the lead character being male instead of female. But except for these minor changes, the story is exactly the same. It looks to be a good adaptation.

Resident Evil the movie was totally different from the games. They didn't have any of the game characters in the first movie. They didn't have the same story or the same atmosphere or anything!

They're completely different films.

RedIsNotBlue
04-04-2006, 08:09 AM
sure, but by those standards, resident evil was "pretty damn close" too.

Resident Evil had a bunch of characters, locations, and events that were NOT in ANY of the games. So far it looks like Silent Hill has exceeded in ALL of those areas. How was Resident Evil pretty damn close?? Because it had zombies and some monsters from the game?? Everything else that made the games great were missing. The games were about tension and build-up horror when these movies were pretty much action in your face horror. Yeah it was great seeing half of the people in the movie killed off by a ****ing defense computer system. Paul Anderson is a hack and ruined the Resident Evil franchise. I wish Romero's script treatment would have been used instead.

Armoured-Fury

To me it looks like Silent Hill has managed to capture the essence of the games, to make it feel like it's the computer game but on a big screen. Resident Evil didn't manage to do that, that felt nothing like the Resident Evil I know. To my recollection, they didn't even say the word zombie in the RE movie.

I simply cannot wait for this film and if pictures/trailers are any indication, then this movie can be the best video game movie to date.

Mr. Credible

i still think resident evil sucks, and i think (and hope) silent hill will be good. the point i'm trying to make is that most, if not all of you guys whine when a videogame/comicbook adaptation changed some detail, no matter how small. well, we know for a fact that silent hill is using characters that don't exist in any of the video games. so why is everyone not pitching some fit about that? i'm sure that this movie is changing someother things, too, but honestly, i've never played through a whole silent hill game, so... like i said, i still have high hopes for this movie, but i'm more than prepared for it to suck, and i just don't think that you guys are.

LastSunrise1981

I fully understand what you're saying. I mean this movie could very well suck in a major way, but I doubt it, considering the director of Brotherhood of the Wolf brought it to life and it looks amazing.

I just hope that when I see the film it maintains the same atmosphere and the same mind**** aspect of the game.

OtepApe

The changes in Resident Evil were far from small but whatever. And the made-up characters for Silent (even though there are a good chunk of characters from the game) still are going to be like the characters that are in the games just made-up names. So the main gist of the games is there from everything I have seen. I am only prepared for a movie to suck if I see any hints of suckage in the trailers or pics and I am just not seeing it. And trust me it is very hard for me to get into any of these newer horror films lately.

There's a great article in Fangoria (most recent?) that answers a lot of what people here are arguing about.

Highlights from tehre and other sources.

--They tried to do SH2, but found it didn't work without backstory on the town, so they're pretty much remaking game one. SH2 is Gans favorite SH.

--Gans went thru a lot of loopholes to convince the SH team he would stay true to their work.

--Only the bugs are CGI. All other monsters are actors/dancers in costume

--Konami will re-make the game with a female lead in the future. It is unclear how this will be done or how much of an overhaul it will be.

--Harry Mason came across too "feminine" on script, which is why Gans changed the lead to a female. Yamaoka (director of SH) agreed, hence the above statement.

--The soundtrack will be the same used from the game. Why mess with it? was Gans' thoughts

--Gans claims he made the moviethe way the games are in play, basically characters doing more evading then shooting, more reacting then attacking. According to Gans, even when a character kills a creature in the games it's kinda of a "emotional moment."

Yes it's a very good asset if you understand every little detail of the game, how it makes people feel, how it's layed out, who/ what everybody and everything is in the game..

I think a person who can rebuild a game on the 'big screen' brick by brick, so to say, and still make it look really good and authentic to the game will get a LOT of kudos from the fans.

In regards to the picture... Yes that is kinda creepy, lol... I see there's a suspended sign in the background whih says "Surgery" on it.. Looks like theirs didn't go too good lol..

I don't get the hype surrounding that remake. It's better than alot of American horrors, but it isn't scary. It relies on alot of cheap scares and cheap laughs for the first half of the movie. It's an ok movie, but it's no classic horror by any stretch.

The Hills Have Eyes remake was pretty average, but compared to recent horror movies, that's actually pretty good.

But yeah, I saw the behind the scenes silent hill video and on one hand I'm glad I saw it because my faith in this movie has skyrocketed, but on the other hand I wish I hadn't watched it because I know too much of the story to be surprised when I see it in theaters.

Doubt it. I assume you've never played the game? Personally I feel it's captured the very essence of the game. I admit it's very challenging to recreate the tension, fear, confusion, and overall atmosphere that the console has for its concept.

However, from the looks of it, it appears they got it right and it could actually be an excellent horror movie.

If it does well then I assume we'll get a new video game movie franchise where it's taken seriously.

I suggest, (Only if you don't mind seeing a few spoilers) is to give a gander at the Making Of Silent Hill Movie, it's very interesting and to me, it seems to movie just might convey a sense of dread and fear. But that of course, is my opinion.

Review in UK newspaper News Of The World...

"At last, after the naff nonsence that was Lara Croft, Doom and Resident Evil, a movie adapted from a computer game that isnt bad.

In fact it's pretty damn good, mainly becuase director Christopher Gans - the bloke behind weird french horror the brotherhood of the wolves isnt afraid to mess with the franchise. So instead of an Arnold Schwarzenegger style hero trying to save a missing child from a bunch of ghosts, you get a mother trying to track down her missing and terminally ill daughter.
The film doesnt stint on action, with mum Radha Mitchell, from Pitch Black, and cop Laurie Holden kicking some serious butt. Sean Bean also stars as the missing girls dad.
Theres plenty of gore and big scares, especially when the mum has to creep through a nightmareish hospital staffed by bandage clad killer nurses.
It's enough to make you wish you'd gone private!
4/5 stars"

This movie looks so frickin' creepy and disturbing! I'm actually somewhat excited about it, but if it turns out as good as I hope then the hard part will be convincing my brothers to see it with me, since we all grew up total squeams. The only horror movies we ever watched were ancient black and white ones till I was like, 16 (and even then we barely ever watched anything that intense). :p

Regarding the no critics screening thing....I'm wondering if it was Gan's idea. TO basically screw about with the critics and perhaps, Roger Ebert.

Sounds crazy, I know, but I can't see a movie like this being really really bad you know? If they had 'critic screenings' of Big Momma's House 2, why not Silent Hill? I'm sure it's on par with Momma.

does pyramid head anally rape other monsters?

Nothing has really shown him doing that in the movie, in one of the picture it did show him mutilating a corpse.

So there's always a chance of showing him anally rape monsters, but don't be surprised if they didn't include that, as it would be too creepy and probably would garner quite a bit of controversy too.

No, some idiot got the idea that's what it was.

Actually, that's exactly what he's doing in the game.

Source: Wikipedia.com

Later he enters Room 307, where Pyramid Head appears to be raping, while still clothed, two Mannequins. Terrified, James hides in a closet. The monster walks up to the closet slowly, and panicked James shoots him with his handgun a number of times, with the bullets deflecting harmlessly off the monster's helmet. After a moment, Pyramid Head hesitates and walks away.

Pyramid Head is then fought in Blue Creek apartments. When James enters the door leading to a stairway, his antagonist again appears to be raping and subsequently murdering another creature. He turns to James and tries to kill him. Luckily his movements are severely hampered by the Great Knife he's wielding. After a few minutes, sirens sound in the distance and Pyramid Head descends the flooded stairway, opening the door at the bottom and removing the water.

@Spider-Face- There was and is a picture of him holding a mutilated corpse. It should be in this thread a few pages or a lot of pages back, but I'll try to find a good picture for you.

Pyramid Head. Who is he? What does he want?

Some say Pryamid Head is the Red God, one of the Gods that The Order worships. Some say Pryamid Head is an executioner from the Silent Hill prison. Some say Pyramid Head is the creation of James' subconcious, created to torment him, representing his sexual frustration.

What we know - He is sometimes referred to as "the Red Pyramid". There are two of them. James found a painting of him. There are texts in the prison that talk about executioners. Pyramid Head rapes and murders monsters in Silent Hill.

Here is something that I thought of. What if Pyramid Head is not the creation of James' subconcious. Say that the Otherworld version of Silent Hill Alessa created stayed, and Pyramid Head just roams this world, doing as he pleases, raping and killing monsters. Was Pyramid Head even aware of James' presence until James walked into the room Pyramid Head was raping the manequin?? Why did Pyramid Head walk away from James at that point? The next time you encounter him, he is raping yet another monster, and then he fights you. Eventually the famous Silent Hill siren sounds, and he walks away. Why?? The siren usually signifies the SH reality changing over to Otherworld... why does it call Pyramid Head away? Maybe the dog controls the siren, hahaha! Maybe it was lunch time for PH!

What does the book of Lost Memories say about it?

What do you think?

Mr. Credible
