"I have an interview today for Spider-Man 3. A couple of people have already given me recommendations, but we'll see what happens. I still have to hear the details of the job before I'm even sure I'll want it. I'd really like to get on something this big, just to see what's it's like. But I'm not going to take on something that'll just make me miserable. And I have to find out if there's any location work...JT mentioned New York and/or Cleveland. Don't know what's up with Cleveland, but that's movie making for you."
Hmm... since when has Cleveland been mentioned for filming? Has anyone else heard anything about this? I hope it's true... (I'm heading in that direction soon :p) Obviously "extras" are being needed there... perhaps some principle actors will be called to Cleveland as well.

They might shoot a specific area of Cleveland that has something NY doesn't. Similar to the way they shot Spidey 2 scenes in Chicago, because it has elevated trains that run through the city, which NY doesn't.

Why would they use Cleveland? They have enough money to film in New York.
I guess cleveland has something that New York doesn't. Maybe it's a landmarkish thing that could become a sort of building used in an action scene or just a basic locale, like the RockinRole Hall of Fame or Terminal Tower or something. Who knows. I can't think of too many exciting things here. (I live in the greater cleveland area).

what could cleveland have that New York doesn't? New York has tons of awesome landmarks that they can used, more things then cleveland, not to knock cleveland. Lordofthenerds is right, they have enough money to film in New York. it just doesn't make sense. with each villian, you can have spidey fight them at different landmarks. i think they should use at least 2 landmarks from the city.(New York that is)

SIGH... And I thought Cincinnati was close... *becomes jealous of RedIsNotBlue*
It's absolutely not true that New York City has "everything". New York City only has what New York City has, hence the reason why some scenes in Spiderman 2 were shot in Chicago. Cleveland has a few unique buildings that New York doesn't, and perhaps one of the buildings or landscapes has the right look for a particular scene.
Although it's a must that they will include landmarks from New York city galore, to drive the point home that it's supposed to be New York City.

UPDATE
I think Redisnotblue can jump for joy (and all the fans who live in Cleveland).;) :)
From the Hype! mainpage...
Meanwhile, COSE has released this interesting announcement:
The Council of Smaller Enterprises (COSE), the small business arm of the Greater Cleveland Partnership, today announced that it will partner with Greater Cleveland's Film Commission and "Spider-Man 3" to steer sales to Cleveland businesses.
"The package assembled by COSE and Greater Cleveland's Film Commission is impressive," said Peter Martorano, location manager for "Spider-Man 3". "Cleveland has really embraced this production. The discount program will help the cast and crew take advantage of all the things that Cleveland has to offer and it will encourage us to concentrate our spending with Cleveland companies -- from sign makers to grocers to lumber suppliers."
Participating retailers and businesses will offer the film's cast, crew and production team discounts at Downtown, University Circle, Little Italy and Tremont retailers. COSE will issue special "Spider-Man 3" stickers for display in the windows of merchants participating in the discount program and the merchants will be included in a directory that will be available to the cast and crew. COSE will also distribute discount cards to the production's cast and crew that can be used in participating shops, restaurants, entertainment venues and businesses for a 10 percent discount. Design work for the stickers and discount cards was done pro bono by Adcom Communications.
"We're excited that COSE members will be able to play a role in supporting this major Hollywood production," said Steve Millard, executive director of COSE. "Cleveland's small businesses stand to gain tremendously in the short term. And our hope is that we will make a positive impression on Hollywood decision makers and by showing Cleveland's willingness to work with film productions, Cleveland will be selected as the site for more films."
COSE has also assembled a team to assist the film's procurement staff in securing construction materials, props, costumes, equipment and other items that will be used during the fifteen days the production will be in downtown Cleveland. COSE staff is already working with props, procurement, set construction and costume crewmembers from "Spider-Man 3" to ascertain and anticipate their needs. Many items used by the crew and production team will be purchased or rented in Cleveland.
In the next couple of days, COSE members in Downtown, University Circle, Little Italy and Tremont will be notified by letter about the program. Merchants interested in participating in the program can contact Richard Rivera at (216) 592-2561.
COSE, the small business arm of the Greater Cleveland Partnership, serves as a one-stop resource for its members by providing: group-purchasing programs that reduce the cost of doing business; education and development programs for small- and mid-sized businesses; advocacy on legislative and regulatory issues affecting the business community; a wide range of resources focused on helping firms grow; and economic development partners that can address business concerns. Sometimes there are things you can simply do more easily in a smaller city as far as cordoning off more streets or entire blocks than you can in New York due to population density, street traffic and crowd control issues. For example, John Carpenter filmed some of Escape From New York in St. Louis, because it was much easier to get near complete control of several streets - particularly for nighttime filming.
Update on Cleveland filming:
Read this in today's Plain Dealer. Obviously a lot less ambitious than the COSO blurb made it appear. In a nutshell:
Cleveland was chosen because it's cheaper to close down streets here than in New York;the ability to use vacant space in the Cleveland Convention Center; buildings from the late 1800's mimic New York buildings of the same era, and lots of old vacant office space that can supply office space and headquarters for the filming.
The shoot will begin in early April and last 7-10 days.
It will be a small second unit crew that will shoot action shots that don't involve the entire cast. It is doubtful that Maguire and Dunst will be here.
The filming will be along Euclid Avenue between east 9th Street and Public Square. (For folks unfamiliar with Cleveland, Euclid is pretty well the main drag downtown). While there are only a few tall buildings, special efects teams can extend the tops of existing buildings using CGI.
My guess is that the scene(s) will be of one of the villains creating general mayham and panic. Shutting down Euclid and filling it with police cars and screaming extras will create the impression of a city under seige. I wouldn't be surprised if Thomas Hayden Church made it to downtown, but it doesn't sound like any of the rest of the primary cast will, and probably not even Raimi.
Yep just saw it on the news, said it was early april when they are shooting. Cool

I actually live in the city of Cleveland and I'll try to get down town but doubt i will. Now why would they choose Cleveland? I'm not sure, but it has to be exspensive to film on the streets of New York so maybe they would do it in Cleveland. I know Cleveland isn't is big as NY but for street level scenes it would work. As for what does Cleveland have that NY doesn't? Well we do have polluted rivers and a giant polluted lake.Other then that I don't know I'll try to be there when their shooting.

Just go to clevelandfilms.com or clevelandfilm.com and then click on news and updates on the scrolldown bar and you'll find the post about extra's needed (and they are searching for a DP of sorts for this little second unit shoot as well). I went to the site anyway to check times for the cleveland international film festival, and when my parents checked for the same they pretty much forced me to submit. I mean, i'm in school for directing, but they see it as an "opportunity" to see how things work.
Sounds neat, but i'd never want to make a movie like Spiderman or something remotely as big.

More news from Cleveland. I think the casting people are going to have disappoint quite a few people.
From The Plain Dealer:
Many leap at chance to be in 'Spider-Man'
Saturday, April 01, 2006
Julie Washington
Plain Dealer Columnist
Greater Clevelanders are eager to be in "Spider-Man 3" when action scenes are shot here in April. The movie, starring Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst, is slated to open in theaters in 2007.
About 2,000 people already have signed up for a chance to be extras in "Spider-Man 3" when it films action scenes here this month.
No one knows if the filmmak ers will be able to use that many extras. The Greater Cleveland Film Commission was getting so many inquiries that it set up a place on its Web site, www.clevelandfilm.com, where people can submit their photos and contact information, said Dennis Eckart, the commission's board chairman. Go to the "news and updates" link.
In March, word came down that a small second-unit "Spider-Man 3" crew is coming here to shoot action shots that do not include the entire cast. The downtown portion of Euclid Avenue has been identified as a possible location.
The film commission is also collecting names via the Web site of people who want to be crew members. About 150 prospective crew members have signed up, Eckart said.
A skeleton film crew from "Spider-Man 3" is expected to arrive Monday and start setting up offices in the Cleveland Convention Center, commission president Chris Carmody said. The commission has been pushing the city to allow film companies to use the convention center as a soundstage. "Spider-Man 3" will be a good test of that plan, Carmody said.
"Spider-Man 3," starring Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst, continues the adventures of the mild-mannered Peter Parker, who morphs into the crime-fighting superhero. The movie is scheduled to open in May 2007.

Converting the Convention Center to sound stages?
http://img105.imageshack.us/img105/4331/0645192058conventioncenterlg6f.jpg
CLEVELAND -- Today, the City of Cleveland takes a big step toward winning more Hollywood location shooting business, like Spiderman 3, which is shooting here next month.
Can you imagine the Convention Center as a movie sound stage? The Spiderman sequel will be using unused portions of the Convention Center. And today, the city and the Cleveland Film Commission announced plans to make the Convention Center available to film companies as a sound stage and storage area for location shooting.
Every movie crew that comes here means major benefits for the city.
"The city gets payroll taxes, sales taxes, car rental taxes and very substantial hotel bed taxes," said Chris Carmody of the Cleveland Film Commission.
"The City of Cleveland will be a place where people automatically think, well, they make movies in Cleveland," added Mayor Frank Jackson.
The Cleveland Film Commission leaves for Hollywood Thursday to tout the new facility.

:::::: CLEVELAND UPDATE ::::::
According to a Spider-Man 3 crew member, the Cleveland filming will be of a car chase and will last 7-10 days. Lots of roads will be closed.
Ok so for some exciting news right off the bat.* I'M WORKING ON* THE CREW OF SPIDERMAN 3!!!!!* Yep, doesn't get much cooler than that.* It turns out that they're planning on shooting a car chase up in Cleveland for 7-10 days and they'll be shutting down a lot of road to film it.* I just can't even to begin saying how excited I am to do this, and I got so many questions about it.* I don't know who's going to be there (although I guess Sam Raimi, the director, is a no brainer).* Maybe none of the actors will be there and it's all just stunt crew, I really have no idea.* All I know is that this is by far one of the best gigs I've had since I've moved back home and can't wait.* Just flat out awesome.

Hell yes. Downtown's sooo nasty now. Hardly any business and like most of the buildings have for lease signs. The city's been dead since the 90s. It LOOKED like it was alive 1999-2001 but that was a facade. I'm extremely curious to go drive there right now and check out the cleaning going on cause it's pretty crack-ho dirty from what I recall.

Also, there is a bit of a synopsis about the SM3 story....excerpt:
In "Spider-Man 3," Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) has struck a balance between his responsibilities as a superhero and his relationship with Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst). The public adores him, and he's caught the attention of love-interest Gwen Stacy (Bryce Dallas Howard).
Peter's overconfidence leads to doom when he must battle Sandman, played by Thomas Haden Church ("Sideways"). Sandman, alias Flint Marko, can transform his body into a hard, sandlike substance.
Of course the next line in the this article references internet fansites as a source, so who know what credibility the above has....
Internet fan sites say that Topher Grace, who formerly starred on television's "That '70s Show," will play the evil Venom in "Spider-Man 3." Venom, aka failed reporter Eddie Brock, is a shape-shifter with a grudge against the webslinger.

If the overconfidence thing has any merit then we might be treated to a more confident, ass-kicking possibly wise-cracking spidey this go round...  But the "public adores him" thing is kind of

Hmm... sounds very interesting.
Peter's overconfidence leads to doom
Seems like Peter will be quite a happy guy in the third film. Everything is going fine... and then Sandman appears and destroys the happiness
The public adores him
Sounds like there will be indeed a "Spider-Man Day"
he's caught the attention of love-interest Gwen Stacy
He's caught her attention, but she hasn't caught his attention?
Flint Marko, can transform his body into a hard, sandlike substance.
Is he only able to turn his body into hard sand? No "melting" into fine sand, no shape-shifting hands?? Hmmm... And since when is Venom a shape-shifter??

In "Spider-Man 3," Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) has struck a balance between his responsibilities as a superhero and his relationship with Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst).
If that's true, I'm ecstatic. He'll have that attitude in the costume we all want to see. But then he confronts a foe he can't stop. Then the symbiote comes in, and now he has this greater power. But how does he deal with it? Think about Banks' statement, people....
he's caught the attention of love-interest Gwen Stacy (Bryce Dallas Howard).
And that's how it should be. Gwen sees him, not vice versa. He loves Mary Jane. And so do I.... ;)
Peter's overconfidence leads to doom when he must battle Sandman, played by Thomas Haden Church ("Sideways"). Sandman, alias Flint Marko, can transform his body into a hard, sandlike substance.
 Oooh, what kind of doom? Sounds juicy...
Topher Grace, who formerly starred on television's "That '70s Show," will play the evil Venom in "Spider-Man 3." Venom, aka failed reporter Eddie Brock, is a shape-shifter with a grudge against the webslinger.
Well can't the symbiote take different shapes? I mean, this is a newspaper that probably knows little to nothing about the V-Man, so they're probably just wording it based on what they have heard about the character.

Saturday, April 22: Euclid Avenue from East 18th Street to Public Square and East Ninth Street from Prospect to Superior avenues.

Brilliant news, keep up with the updates guys. And be sure to tell us if you manage to see the filming taking place at Cleveland.
The car chase sounds exciting, I sincerely hope its Sandman trying to make a quick exit. We haven't had a good car chase since Spidey 1 with our hero chasing Uncle Bens killer.
The above film synopsis pleases me too, I was happy to see that Peter will have finally struck some kind of balance between his responsibilites. Some will say that this is because of MJ's love and that that's all a bit lovey-dovey, but I like it.
Seeing Peter go through some kind of tragedy such as the loss of Harry or maybe even Aunt May will make his plight even more dramatic, knowing that he had to work so hard to achieve some kind of happiness.
The "Spider-Man Day" doesn't sound so bad, and hopefully we will see a more confident and outgoing Peter - the kind of man to attract the attention from women like Gwen Stacy.

I drove down that street the last weekend and didn't notice much cleaner. There's a good amount of road work being done, but I've seen that for months now and that has to be unrelated. I'll be through the area routinely anyways, doubt I'll see anything but if I do I'll let you guys know. It's also fashion week in Cleveland starting this coming weekend, so I have added incentive to go to this one vantage point spot where I can sit back and notice both Spidey stuff and some hot models...my guess is the filming crew will incidentally find this spot and hang out here as well.

The stunt director Scottie will be testing the potential drivers abilities and then deciding on who he wants and how long he needs them. Also, on a side note, my cousin is the VP of Operations for the Union Club in Downtown Cleveland. He told me that Sam Raimi and some of the producers have been in for lunch a few times already in the past week. Scott, who had just overseen the renovations done to the Union Club during the past year, said that Sam was very taken with the building. In fact, Sam had mentioned that he is seriously considering using the club for the interior sequences of the Wayne Manor for his upcoming Batman movie that he will be directing. Wouldn't that be awesome. That would really put Cleveland on the map as a legitimate film production city!!! I'll keep you guys informed as best as I can during the filming. GG is right its time for some Pics,it seems like Spiderman 3 is the Area 51 of Movies.
And as it should be.
Unlike the other two big franchises that launched around the same time as Spidey (LotR and HP) we don't know what the flip is going to happen in this film (the majority of the people familiar with the Rings and Potter books knew, of course, what would take place, so why would the studio need to be as secretive). Couple this with the fact that we had a semi-cliffhanger ending (with Harry) and you can't expect pictures to be rolling in like a flood, especially when the damn thing is still a year away.
burke122101
04-20-2006, 06:58 AM
It is definitely a confirmed topic. The precision driving director explained the 'weave' formation that we were all tested on and explained that there will be an armored car chase sequence. We were also told that we will only be used as on-coming traffic on the opposite side of the street because they have 25 stunt drivers coming in to do all of the 'beating and banging'.

Well, just for the sake of the Venom fans, granted there is no Spider-Woman to base the design on, but I think it would be a dissapointment to all the people that really wanted to see a comic accurate Venom

Great Day in Cleveland
Today has been a great day to be in Cleveland - - particularly along Euclid Avenue! I had an 11 a.m. meeting in the Mt. Pleasant neighborhood, so I walked my typical walk this morning, down Euclid Avenue from Public Square to the Hanna Building, around 8:30 a.m. Around 10:30 a.m., I rode the new, green Trolley back through Euclid Avenue to W. 6th to drive out to Mt. Pleasant. Those two trips down Euclid Avenue were quite different than most days...
On my walk in to work this morning, I first noticed something had changed when the building on the corner of E. 4th Street and Euclid Avenue (being renovated to become downtown's first upscale martini bar/bowling alley) had become an Irish Pub, Flannigan's, OVERNIGHT. Slowly I began to realize that every once-vacant storefront on Euclid Avenue was occupied with clothing stores, ethnic eateries, art galleries, ticket booths and pet stores. The truth is, they aren't really occupied at all, but Spiderman has made them LOOK like they're occupied. Even the old Cleveland Trust Rotunda, on the corner of E. 9th and Euclid, is BLOOMING with flowers. It is amazing what some time, energy and certainly a little bit of $$$ can do to a once-vacant street overnight.
Cleveland's Euclid Avenue has officially become a movie set. I even heard talk around the office today that they are taking down some of the street signs temporarily!

I work on Euclid Avenue "within" the filming zone. They have basically done a ton of setup work today, getting all the vehicles situated, getting the empty storefronts "filled"....a lot of art galleries for what it's worth.
All the Cleveland references are being removed......our building was asked to remove the State of Ohio flag and they will be covering our sign as it includes the name Cleveland....
So nothing major has happened today.
Now, I am guessing that the majority of the filiming will be taking place down at Public Square and my building is down towards E.14th street (they have the road closed from 18th to Public Square). The trailers and such are in a parking lot a bit east and on the other side of the street but our building manager has been informed that there will be some filming done in front of our building.....
I will try and post some more on Monday. If you have a specific question, I'll consult with the "office walkers" to see if I can get more information.......

::UPDATE - CLEVELAND REPORTS::
Here's a report that I found.
"So, Spiderman 3 is filming downtown today, right in front of my building! The whole area is closed off, and when I arrived they were apparently setting up for a car chase, or so someone speculated. In the lot across the street from my building, which I've been looking down on from my window, they've set up a ton of trailers, and on the back of a truck I can see a huge crane with a camera on it. They also just backed out a blue truck that said "Manhattan Safe (something)" on it. I guess the producers thought that the area where I work looks Manhattan-esque enough, and they've brought in NYC cabs and have changed signs, etc."
source: http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=7887119&blogID=112517886
Could this be extended filming of the Los Angeles Bank scene? There's been numerous rumors that Cleveland is being used for a car chase (this source adding to it) and if the safe is to represent perhaps money from a bank, this could be the same bank robbery scene. Remember how Chris Tucker and Black Spidey got into a taxi - Car Chase! It's possible.
Oh, and here's something else that I found. Pay attention to the bold words.
"Spiderman 3 began filming in Cleveland today right in front of my building. I'll have to post some pics soon but it's really pretty cool. I have never seen a major production in the works before. So many people. They will be filming here for the next 2 weeks. Kind of a pain in the ass because all the streets are closed off. There is about 15 cars in front of my building that are supposed to be ran over by a tank sometime in the next 2 days. None of the cars have engines or license plates. It should be pretty amazing to see."

There are a quite a few cars on the street. Many have had NY license plates added (over top of the OH plates)......there are obvious enhancements to a number of cars for stunt purposes and as I posted previously, many of the vacant store fronts have been "made-over".....
nothing has happened yet. I'm guessing most of that will take place either tonight (if it's a night scene obviously) or over the weekend when there are fewer people working down here. Across from the Wyndham Hotel there were at least 30 cars parked bumper to bumper probably waiting to be positioned up and down the street. Some look as if they are "disposable" but some of the other more expensive models are likely just for show......

I bet, considering Chris Tucker's onscreen personality and the fact he is a comedian, he'll pull his taxi over for spidey because spidey is "black". He'll probably say something like "No problem, anything for a brother". Should be a funny scence. But I still wonder why spider-man needs to take a cab. Maybe doesn't know his way around part of town?
I just realized someone may have already mentioned a joke like this when his cameo was announced, sorry if it is so.

Hey all, just got home, so I figured I would pop in with some updates, not that I have anything major.
They didn't really film anything today, just background stuff. There were only about 20-25 of us called down there (as opposed to 200 or so that will be walking the streets during actual filming). Basically they put NY plates over our plates and had us park them down by Playhouse Square (the theater district in Cleveland). They then proceeded to stick us in a room in what is basically "home base" for them at E. 9th and Euclid. After hours or sitting around someone came in and informed us they were wrapped shooting what they were doing for the day and they would let us know if they needed us the next day.
Seeing as how I'm one of the core drivers, as of now I'm not on for tomorrow, but they said to expect a call tonight because the drivers were not put on the list they had, it was a seperate list.
Only real news is that they told us it's supposed to be a "business district" and it's set fall/winter. Indeed empty storefronts were converted over to different things for the movie, and signs were hung off the light poles for the Gugenheim.
Also I know I won't be able to provide any pictures as that was rule #1 they laid down. I may like you guys, but not enough to get sent home from the shoot. :O

Spider-Man comes to Cleveland, sans big stars
6:42 p.m.
By Joanna Connors and Julie E. Washington
Plain Dealer Reporters
Tobey Maguire did not come to Cleveland yesterday for the start of second-unit action shooting for "Spider-Man 3," but Spider-Man sure did.
Make that Spider-Men.
Like Spider-Man's alter-ego, Peter Parker of the Daily Bugle, these men in tights were really members of the media. Intrepid members of the media.
They had a story to report, and - severely limited by the studio's closed-set, no-interview policy - they had clearly decided that with great powerlessness comes great irresponsibility.
The first of the masked "reporters" showed up at about 7:30 a.m., three hours after the pre-dawn closing of Euclid Avenue, from Playhouse Square to Public Square, to traffic.
This Spider-Man, his spidey-sense tingling, tracked down second-unit director Dan Bradley and about 30 of his top crew people as they conferred in the middle of the quiet street.
"I'm ready!" he yelled to them, striking a Spidey action pose.
The crew looked at him with blank faces, and went back to work.
Spider-Man, bowed but not beaten, walked away with the face-saving aplomb of a stand-up comic with a sober audience.
"I don't think they got the joke," he said.
Unlike the Spider-Man of comic-strip, cartoon and movie fame, this Spidey was happy to reveal his true identity: Randall Scott, 24, of Lakewood, a weekend disc jockey for WQAL FM/104.1, who was calling in live reports to the "Wilde and Fee" morning show.
In more familiar Spidey fashion, the second Spider-Man of the day kept mum about the man under the mask. All he would reveal was his occupation: reporter for Channel 19 News.
When he began performing, the reason for his secrecy became clear - and it had nothing to do with the Green Goblin or any of the other Spidey nemesi.
Channel 19 cameraman Gary Graves played director, enlisting a small group from the crowd of about 200 lunch-time gawkers to look up into the sky, see "Spider-Man," and gasp "Woo!" and "Look at that!"
Graves, ready for his Cecil B. DeMille moment, made his instant actors repeat take after take.
"Stay in character, stay in character," he kept telling them, as curious passers-by stopped to look into the sky along with them, trying to figure out what they were watching. "No, no, no," he said, "don't look at the camera!"
After he finally got the shot, Graves called in his star, who leapt into the crowd in full-on Halloween-costume-party glory. He shook a few hands and then - in a move Tobey Maguire may want to avoid - he began to dance an Ashlee Simpson, "Saturday Night Live" lipsynch-debacle jig for the cheering crowd. "You have just witnessed the end of my career as I know it," the reporter said a few minutes later. "After almost 25 years in the business."
Later he could be seen running down Euclid in slo-mo for Graves' camera, and wrestling another instant "actor" to the ground after a staged purse-snatching.
Like Peter Parker, the reporter managed to be philosophical about his radioactive predicament. With desperate times come desperate measures.
"This is Channel 19," he said. "Pride is not in the mantra."

The brilliant news just keeps coming in, drip by drip...
I'm really excited about a fall/winter setting for the films, I always dreamed of seeing Spidey on film swinging in the snow, just like a panel out of Spider-Man: Blue...
The other films have had a summery setting where it's mostly sunny - rain, snow and wind are all powerful tools and could signal a much darker film in tone.
I like the fact that all these cars are getting destroyed - without much detail, at least we know that we are in for a fun ride. Hopefully, Sandman driving away a money truck with Spidey in hot (or cold) pursuit.

::ANOTHER CLEVELAND UPDATE::
Parts of "Spider-Man 3" are being filmed right outside my hotel!!!! There's a sign posted in the elevator saying they plan on filming some chase scenes inside the hotel lobby too. Nifty. It was cool seeing the film crews this morning while walking down to the conference hotel, but they weren't doing anything special then. I walked down the closed street, looking around me, wondering how they're going to make partially blighted, downtown Cleveland look like New York. Ah well, movie magic at its finest.

I wouldn't count on snow, they're definitely going more towards the "fall" direction I think. That was just the description the wardrobe people gave us so we had a better idea for clothes to wear.
I am back on set tomorrow, and they should be fully shooting as they've got 200 extras and everyone is being told to bring wardrobe with them. Gotta go for now though, 6:30 am is going to come very early and I've still got to figure out a second pair of pants to bring so they have options.
And as for the question, no, I didn't get too wet. We were cut for the day just as it was starting to drizzle.

Scooper 'Pat' sent in this report on the shooting of Spider-Man 3 in Cleveland, Ohio:
Hello everybody, my name is Pat and i was down in Cleveland last night. I was walking around the set there were new york cabs, fake stores and cars that were set to blow up. It was cool, there was a huge sign that said "in HEART with NY." There were posters of footloose all over the place and fake restaurants. What really got me was what the head of security said. I asked him exactly what they were filming there he said "some sort of chase scene" he said it was either Electro or Venom that Spidey was chasing. Ohhh, one more thing, Sam Raimi will be in today and they are still taking people as extras. This will continue all week. From what the security guy told me, "all the cars you see are going to be destroyed.

Awesome. That Flannigan's Pub used to be a Wendy's, it's on the corner across from the House of Blues and on the block where I used to work as a nightclub singer. Us girls used to eat at Wendy's after rehearsal (but it shut down an has been vacant for a while now).
That street was all vacant. Perfect spot for them to film!
I now work at a music agency, and we had a bride book one of our bands for tonight; she's getting married on the street that is closed, so she's pissed.
They sure as hell better not be "still taking extras." I stood in line for about an hour with 2,999 other folks and they have my number!

To put it simply, the scoop on the front page is completely and absolutely wrong on every point. Raimi was not in town today and the chase is of Sandman. This was blatently told to the drivers today and they used two armored cars. The first scene was just as Sandman attacked the car and the scenes later in the day were after he had stolen it. This was shown by a cool effect when the second armored car was made to appear as if it was filled with sand as only the driver's head was visible. They also did an incredible stunt out on E. 4th where the armored car crashed into a "NYC cab" and sent it flipping into the air with another cab swerving at the last second to the smashed cab.
I know Burke was down there as I talked to him so I'm sure he'll have more to add as he actually got to drive all day where as I -- well I didn't. As of now I'm not on call for Monday, so Burke will continue to have to be a source. Hopefully I get the call for more extra work.
And no, they're not still taking extras either, they have 4000 apps sitting in the casting office of people they never called.

padraig, cheers for the info. I'm loving the description of the two drivers of the truck being submerged in sand to their necks - does Sandman kill them by "drowning" them in sand...?
And I see that Les Miserables is playing on the street that Sandy drives down.
Well, I'll be very "miserable" if we don't get some more set pics.
I'll see myself out.

::ANOTHER UPDATE (perhaps my 5th in 2 days?)::
More on the armored truck... filming officially took place today :)
"so today some of the people in my study group and i had an outlining party. it was actually more productive and entertaining than it sounds. but yeah, because we decided to do it at kevin's dad's office in public square, we figured it would be easier to meet at school and walk over. well, it would've been pretty simple had this not been the week that spiderman 3 is filming in cleveland. euclid is closed from 18th to public square, but you can still walk on it. so because the law school is on euclid, we walked down euclid to get to public square. little did we know they were actually filming on e. 9th today. we found out when we got to e. 9th. some pa told us that e. 9th was closed, so we couldn't cross. so what did we do? turned and walked down e. 9th. oops. there were people just standing there and we were pretty confused until we realized they were all extras. haha. so we were walking through the spiderman 3 set right before they shot. hilarious. so when you see the movie, there's going to be a scene with a blue armored car driving quickly down the road. when there's a shot into the front of the armored car? that's the scene we walked through. haha. hilarious."

Sandman will rock! That scene sounds kickass. I love how Raimi found original ways to handle Sandman's powers.

Well, here goes the update. Padarig pretty much hit all of the major points, especially the tidbit about the 'stunt' armored car being filled up with sand! It was a pretty fun day overall. We started with a shot of the armored car turning a corner and joining traffic. They ran one specific shot where the camera's followed real close to the armored car without any extra drivers. It was pretty funny to see the actor inside driving the armored car and trying to react to Sandman breaking into it! The second shot we filmed was a 'strobe' effect shot where we extra drivers drove down the fast land south bound and the armored car and camera rig truck drove north bound on either side of us sandwiching us in the middle. It's probably going to look really cool in the final version. The final stunt run was the coolest part of the day, though. They ran the first run with the precision camera Suburban capturing the action. I had to sit on the sidelines for that shot, but Padarig, I, and some other extra drivers got to at least have some fun with crowd control!! Sorry, that's kind of an inside joke. Anyways, the second run was filmed at a different camera angle and I got to be a part of this one. They had cameras rigged in the middle of the street, on the ground, and suspending over the street by a cable. Padarig actually had a better look at the crash, because I just caught the action in my rearview mirrors. I did get to watch all of the onlooker's reactions to the scene, though, and that was pretty awesome. Just the sound alone was worth the whole day. LOL Anyways, I'm going to attempt to put up a couple of pics a friend of mine took. I have been told to be there on Monday, so I'll try to send along more info Monday night or Tuesday morning.

Indeed the video isn't of the actual car chase, it's of the stuff they did Friday which didn't involve any extras, just the cars of a few of us, and includes interviews with some of the people that gathered to watch.

Nope. Second Unit (which usually consists of exterior shots, B roll stuff, etc.) do that kind of stuff. The director usually isn't there for that (he's off doing more "imporant" stuff ;) )
Spidey Example: The scene where the taxis and cars go flying in NY as Ock's experiment goes crazy at the end, those scenes were shot by a second unit director and crew. Sam Raimi was not there for those shootings. There's no need for him because the shots were already designed and the second unit knows what Sam wants.

I'm thinking we won't get any information about GG or Venom from these shoots. Sounds like it's all just Sandman and Spider-man. Maybe we will get a picture of the black costume though. Fingers crossed!

Doc Ock.. robbed a bank.
Sandman... attacking an armored truck.
Financial troubles for villians :D
Yeah it kind of sucks that we are probably getting yet another sympathetic villain.

No the reason he is probably doing it isn't for greed but for a reason like for his family or something.

Maybe. Maybe not. Russell (who is playing Marko's wife) could be in on all of Sandy's robbings. If that "villanous couple" deal is true, that will be the case. We'll see.

And to complete the inside joke:
"It's ok -- we're drivers."
So yeah, I wouldn't anticipate any shots of costumes of either Sandman or black costumed Spidey. The way they've been doing everything it seems they'll be CG'd in later.
I absolutely wouldn't count on anything new coming out today or tonight because they're not filming today, Sunday is their day off. Starts fresh Monday morning, but as I said before, as of now I'm not down there. I know Burke is though and hopefully even though I'm not driving anymore I get a call for background extra stuff.

Don't forget they have a daughter too. That is what makes me think yet another sympathetic villain. I want to see a villain that wants to be bad not because he is somehow forced to be it.

WTH. I hope Sandman kills and steals for the fun of it. Not because he has to. But because he wants to. He's evil.

True. The daughter could be a throw away, add-in just for more "naturalism" or she could be sick and that could be their motivation.
(Which reminds me of that idea people had about the symbiote being the cancer deal from USM, and Sandman trying to get his hands on it for his dying daughter, but Spidey stops him and in turn the symbiote attaches itself to him, and so on...)
