Man, I'm such a happy boy today. I feel happier today than I did on my B-day a couple of weeks ago. We finally have a GR hype... a section of our very own. Hmm... now what can we fill it up with?

Oh... speakin' of which, there are tonnes of threads on Ghost Rider that I'm subscribed too. I'm assuming they'll all be moved over as well. I see have been already. I'm sure you have ways of getting to them but if you need the links, I can send them along. I'm speaking to the mods right now btw.

Do you?

I probably didn't need a new thread for this but, screw it.

What's awesome is that we have have more than 1 or 2 people chatting/viewing this section on a constant basis. It's refreshing to know that more people are checkin' out this place and sharing their minds. We all spent far to many hours with each other and frankly, I'm sick of the regulars.

LoL. I kid, I kid. Without you guys, I'd be dead somewhere probably. Well, that's a little dramatic but... I'm an actor and that's what I do best.

So, welcome to all the new ones to Ghost Rider's hype spot and be sure to spread the word further so that we have even more in the future (which I'm sure won't be a problem as the movie closes in). Oh... but, only tell the cool people because we don't need arseheads here... besides me. hehe.

Oh... well, you're pretty new to the section yourself.

Basically, for a long time there were only 3 of us chatting about Ghost Rider. Then it turned into about 5 or 6 regulars. Now, when you come here there are 20-30 people viewing the threads. I find that refreshing.

FlameHead
01-06-2006, 01:20 AM
Wow, a thread just for me? I'm shocked... mostly that it wasn't closed yet. ha.

Just as well I answer the questions eh?

What brought me to the boards; well, that's easy, I'm a comic geek and movie freak. What better place to dork out than here eh? Actually, I gotta admit that I found Comics2film.com first. An article on there led me to here and I haven't turned back since. Goin' on 3 years now. Cwazy.

First gettin' into Ghost Rider comics? You know, this may be strange but, that's a hard question to answer. I mean, I know I'm obsessed with the character but, I really don't know when it first developed. I wasn't into him really as a kid. I started with DarkHawk actually... and then happened to get the Midnight Masacre crossover (READ THIS) which first introduced me to him. Shortly after that I fell out of comics until at least the new milenium... so, the complete obsession had to have had come after that. You know, this site, the conversations with Biggun and MarvelMovies over the years is probably the main root of my obsession. It certainly brought me further into the world of comics and movies than I could have ever expected.

10 thousand posts is a lot of words. Weird to think about really...

What else do I need to become a moderator? I don't know, ask? That's one thing I haven't tried. In fact, I barely talk to any of the mods, C. Lee being the only one. That's who I do my merge talkin' with. The fact is, I guess they don't really need a mod here yet. I'm sure as the movie gets closer to release this place will (hopefully) become busier, much busier; thus, they'll need a mod. If they want me to help, they know where to find me. I'd love to contribute further to this second home of mine.

A Newfie Joke? Hmm, sure I know a bunch. We're created them all, dont'cha know.

How many Newfie's does it take to change a lightbulb?

100. 1 to hold the lightbulb and a 99 to turn the house around.

i just wanted to express how mice it is here on the Rider boards...so peacefull..so quiet. everyone here is nothing but helpful...some even devot their time to make sure that the fans who may not be 100% familier with the Rider's history are pointed in the right directions for answers (without having an attitude about it)

it can get so frustrating on the other more current movie boards and sometimes everything is so negative.....

i just wanted to have a place to talk about how nice it is to "get away" from all that hustle and bussel.....so for those of you who know what i am talking about and are part of this community: join in and praise the Rider community with you thoughts and/or memories of some good things that you have experianced here.

That's really nice, Toxin. I feel the same.

After the X-Men posters were revealed last week, I popped in to look at the threads on that board and, man, it was so noisy and there was so much venom being spat! Thank goodness I love a character who's not as well known, which keeps the community of fans here small and friendly.

(Group hug). I love you guys!

:)

FlameHead
02-13-2006, 11:35 AM
I hate every single one of you.

I kid, I kid. I'm very fond of the regulars to this section. I've met several people here now who I consider close friends, brought together by a flaming skeleton. Some of whom I've been chatting with for almost 3 years. What's even better is that the new folk to the section, like Nick and Toxin are as awesome as the oldbies. Maybe it's the tone we've set for the section or it's the fact that Ghost Rider fans are the best but, everyone is fantastic!

I've said it before and I'll say it forever; this is the best section on the hype and it's because of the people who fill it.

Having said that, we can expect to have a lot more people in this area in the coming months... and with more people comes trolls and arseholes. The key to these people and these idiotic threads is to just ignore them. Don't feed the trolls, as they say. The threads will be removed and all will be fine once again. Be preparred for it. I expect a flood of people to come here as soon as heavy promotion starts. The people will flock to this character, both good and bad.

str8raz0r
02-13-2006, 12:19 PM
The acidic tone that prevails in the other boards also comes from, and I'm going to sound rather nasty here, rampant fanboyism.

There are people who can't accept the (sometimes necessary) changes to their beloved characters to translate them to the big screen. They could write a better script. They could hire a better cast and crew. They could make a movie that would be loved by everyone whereas the one in production is nothing more than a celluloid nightmare.

Maybe it's MSJ's devotion to the character, and his occasional droppings-in (which are very missed right now!), but there has been virtually NO *****ing and moaning about the subtle changes to the character. Nobody's complaining about Cage being a brunette when Blaze was blonde (Ennis/Crain's miniseries aside), or how the Grace/Hellcycle looks completely different from either comic incarnation. We may discuss these changes, but in a non-confrontational, rather calm manner. Kind of ironic that the group of fans for one of Marvel's most dark, violent characters is the most laid-back!

For that, I'd like to thank each and every one of you. Let's have a big leathery, flamey group hug!

Errr...poor word choice there!

What are you talking about? They all hate spiderman.

Yet, despite their hatred, they still find the time to watch the movies and analyze them like Raimi's the second coming of Fassbinder or Godard or something.

My ultimate point was that everyone here is being very mature and open-minded about the changes being made to GR. Whereas the S-M boards have countless threads that devolve into people rattling on about the attractiveness of Kirsten Dunst or her bloody HAIR COLOR, the GR folk keep their minds open towards changes. For that, I love you all.

These are movies...changes like this are a product of an artist's vision...McFarlane's Spider-Man had huge eyes and a contortionist's body, Lim's Silver Surfer was statuesque compared to the more waifish incarnation of Marshall Rogers, and Saltares/Tex made GR much nastier-looking than Ploog (although I've got nothing but love for Ploog). It's nice that we can accept an artist's changes until we see the final product that proves/disproves the change as good.

Is there potential that GR could potentially be weak? Sure, there always is. However, it's cool that we can all get together and discuss maturely without homophobic epithets or pointless insults.

BIGGUN
02-14-2006, 02:59 AM
i do agree that its pretty friendly in here...as it was mentioned before mainly because GR has a small (but loyal!) following. also many of us are a little older than your typical comic book fan boy. as a result i think the older we get we have less energy getting into pointless online shouting matches and being able to type out "you got OWNED NOOB!!!" on a consistent basis :D
but seriously i don't have time for kiddie drama...like "the movie is gonna suck" or "Cage is a horrible choice!"...that crap belongs on IMDB, CHUD, and Aint it Cool.
im all for calm reasonable arguments but childish tempertantrums arnt my bag.

Doc D
02-14-2006, 04:50 AM
Well, I also have to confess that we have this friendly atmosphere here.

Man, we even have a thread about this topic...strange, isn't it?

Thanks for starting it and sharing your insights.

:ghost:

It's good to see there are more people out there that care about this character, whether he's treated the way one feels comfortable with, or not.
And that's quite an astonishing thing to happen...to still love the core idea about GR despite stories like e.g. "hammer lane" that could have made you go: "now they did it...I'm off...forget about GR".
Well, maybe it's just that: he cannot be killed, not even by writers and artists:)
There is always the image everyone of us has in his own mind about him and we are able to adapt any form given to that image, and thus still feel there's "MY GHOST RIDER" deep inside these different stories and volumes and hosts and so on and so on...

Oh, I'm an X fan. Big fan of the comic, bigger fan of the movie franchise. Hate the fact that Singer jumped ship to take on (blech) Superman but, that's the dislike of DC within me.

I'm a big fan of all things Marvel actually. I just happen to be a supernatual nut as well which leads me to Ghost Rider and all things of that realm within the Marvel Verse.

About this little community of ours, I have to agree with you all. We're all very open to change with our beloved Ghost Rider. It may have something to do with the fact that he's already gone through so many changes to date.

Maybe we are generally older folk...

... Or maybe, we're just aware that a comic and a movie are two completly different beasts. What works in one doesn't always work in the other.

Perhaps even, as Ghost Rider fans, we were inspired to be better people in our dealing with other humans. Maybe ol' Ghost Rider taught us lessons that non fans would have not learn't. Wait, what the hell am I talking about? By all rights, this should be the worst place to discuss. We should all be bad ass bikers with attitudes or something...

Yeah, there's definatly something wrong with the picture but, I'll take it.

Hey whats up people.

I bought 2 GR issues from a yard sale back in 1993, they were issue 5 and 6 from the DK run. I was hooked, but being dirt poor I never bought any issues until Larrocas run. I quickly backtracked and bought every issue I could get my hands into. I even got a few rare door posters, posters, and other left over goodies. I even have a complete box set of the GR Trading Cards including a never before open box of trading cards that I havent even opened yet. I was hooked for a long time and I've been followin the new series run and Im glad that so much attention is being put on this character now.

Im stoked about the new movie, the new Texeira run, , and the future of the series in general.

im new to the board but i been a ghost rider fan since way back. I have had every issue at one point or another but lost them all moving.that was a big problem for me since whenever i used to see my father when i was young he would have a stack of gr comics for me which is where i gained most of the collection.
now a couple years later i read about the gr movie which is great. so i told my dad (who is considerably older and not in great condition not to mention over 800 miles away)and we decided that no matter what upon release of this movie we are gonna meet somewhere and watch it on opening night together.i cant wait for this movie i havent seen my dad in years.
also with the news of a movie came all the memories and i always liked the dan ketch version best so i went on a mission to find all 93 issues and got them.also i got the hammer lane(those who havent had the pleasure save yourself the pain) and also the latest mini(which was decent but not up to par with the 70s and 90s series.i luv gr let him ride for eternity.

so much info, so little time! :)
got to shake hands with the great man himself, mark steven johnson, on the set of Ghost Rider. it was the night they blew up Little Lonsdale Street, and it was about 11pm that they did it.
so what you'll see, in terms of the explosion, is all real, and on a very small street (across the road from a carpark where all their camera equipment was).
the only cgi you'll see in that scene, is johnny's stunt double on the motorbike riding past the shops (before they explode).
from my understanding, it's the first time johnny transforms into GR, and the first time the bike becomes the hellcycle.
it's really quite cool to look back on it and recall that i (and 3 mates) were there for such a huge event.
what else.... hmmmm. so much more to talk about. :)

the uncanny orb is correct.
i've never been to the states, although i have been to vancouver. vancouver is much like melbourne, although vancouver is cleaner, and the people are nicer.
back onto GR; i did see another scene, which was shot along the yarra river. there was SWAT teams, and the stunt double wearing a green mask (with yellow balls on it).
funnily enough, out of all the times i was on the set, i never once saw one of the cast. the closest i got was Nic Cage's stunt double (who is a nice bloke).
i watched another scene which was shot outside the AXA Plaza. i saw the hellcycle amid a tonne of rubble, and Nic Cage's stunt double (again with the green mask and yellow balls), walking towards armed SWAT patrolmen, with his right arm stretched out.
the hellcycle had the yellow balls all around the tyres, which i can only assume indicates the wheels will be on fire.
the stunt double was wearing the GR outfit, and it was a BIG thrill to see it in person.
that's about all i saw in way of production (except for another instance were i snuck onto the set with my brother, but i'll tell you that later).
cheers.
abe.

FlameHead
04-14-2006, 09:53 AM
Snuck onto set eh? Pretty risky business there. Find anything you weren't supposed to?

I've never been to the States either or Australia or Vancouver for that matter. The land down under I've always been fascinated with though and will visit there someday. Vancouver, well, that'll be my home someday. I've been workin' on getting there for almost 2 years now and still haven't left this side of Canada. If everything works out, 2007 will be my move year... perhaps by the time GR is released.

Anyway, that has nothing to do with anything so, I'm gonna shut up now.

Felt like my little village had been invaded. Mad.

:)

Fine we'll leave. See if I care...don't want to see this stupid movie anyway :(

Sorry I can't keep a straight face...this movie is going to Rock...seriously ROCK!!!

Believe us Wolfsfang, we like the company. Some of spent 3 years here with only very few chatting. In fact, some of us where around before this section was even started and there was only one GR thread (which we use a lounge of sorts now).

Welcome to all the newcomers!!!

Probably because next to Spidey, X-Men and a few others GR is just not well known. Everyone knows who Spidey is (even none comic fans) but only a handful of people know the Rider.

FlameHead
05-24-2006, 11:54 AM
Indeed. As strange as it is that an image like that isn't well known, that's the fact in the matter. I'm sure the ongoing comic, the games and the movie will change that though.

If you asked most people to name the skeleton guy with the flaming skull head, 90% of them would probably say "isn't he that Scorpion guy from Mortal Kombat?"

...and I would smack them. Hard. On the mouth. :D

I have a distinct feeling that between the solid cast, neat FX, and the fact that horror/supernatural is sorta back in vogue right now, that GR will become very, very recognizable.

It might be fun but I doubt smacking them would work. Funny thing is I remember reading somewhere that the look of Scorpy was based a lot on GR.

Just for the record I used to post in the "Official Ghost Rider Movie" thread way back before GR had his own board, under the name SPIDER-BONE. Back when the thread was in the Marvel Movies board. Not that it matters. Just thought this screen name was funnier. Haven't been inspired to post until I saw the trailer. For so long it was nothing but delays and bad news. Now I excited again. Can't wait.

That as soon as the GR trailer hit cinemas, tons of new threads have been made and alot more posts have been coming in...A few weeks ago I remember coming on here and seeing only a few new threads here and there that barely made 2 pages each, & now we've got tons of pages of new stuff.

Does this show the true power of marketing or the avergae joe's blindness to comic books & the characters (believing that comics are for kids but when they see the characters they think, hey this really is awesome, a la x-men) , or something completly different?

So lads /lasses of the hype board.

Record your name here if you are a fan of the Ghost Rider, with a little background on why. The number of GR fans is growing and the movie is coming.

It would be great for MSJ to know why this means so much to us.

For me, I loved the character in the 70's because I would read his stories with my oldest brother when we still were close, before he moved away to the states.

My brother introduced me to comics and Batman, Hal Jordan and most memorably Johnny Blaze. Daniel Ketch brought it all back and wow it was great in the 80's and 90's ... but I waited patiently for the big screen adaptation.

I wanted to see my hero on the screen. The guy who tried to save his "father" and whose life was a mess, but who fought on and fought back. He would not give in and he did not back down.

He rode his bike hard, fought hard and man did he kick a**.

Sorry mine was a little long but wanted to get your thought processes going ... so add your name and why this movie means something to you!

THANKS MSJ!!! Ride on Johnny! :ghost:

My friend had a Ghost Rider figure from the 90's toy line series. I was over at his house and I was like 6 years old. I think it was 1997 or so. I saw it and he didn't even know what it was. He thought it looked cool so he got it. I thought it looked cool too.

In 1998, when I REALLY started to get interested in comics, I saw some comics in my comic book store with the same flame headed character on the front. The first issue that hit me was #45 from the 90's series. He was on a white cover in an awesome pose throwing his chain out towards you. I was like ":wow: I remember him from my friends house!"
I thought the cover was awesome and I picked up about 3 issues. The other two were from the earlier part of the 90's series. In the 20's or so. I read them and thought they were really cool. I had to have read them atleast 3 times in a couple weeks. I took them almost everywhere. The art was cool as heck. I picked up even more issues a couple weeks later.
Eventually, I had alot of them and whenever I got money it would be on Ghost Rider comics. My comic store didn't have every issue ever, but I eventually had got ALL they had lol. My three favorite titles were Spider-Man, Hulk, and Ghost Rider.

I drew Ghost Rider alot when I was younger too (still do lol). And in 2001, I heard they were making a movie from SuperHeroHype.com.:D

I was happy as heck. Spider-Man was getting a movie, Hulk was getting one, and now Ghost Rider.:)

And today, I'm 15, I still draw Ghost Rider, I still get and read the comics, I have the action figures (even the 90's figure with the chain swinging feature:D), and I'm still excited for the movie like crazy.

And I'd like to thank MSJ too! You did bring Ghost Rider to the big screen and it took very long but you did it! Thanks!:ghost::D

I've been a Ghost Rider fan since I was a wee little thing, when my dad brought home the classic AVENGERS # 214 that featured Earth's Mightiest Heroes getting their heads handed to 'em by the Spirit of Vengeance.

Since 2001, I've ran Vengeance Unbound (http://ghostrider.omegacen.com), a Ghost Rider website that's undergone some times of hardship (including computer crashes and host server companies folding and running off with my money, lol) but is all worth it in the end.

Viva la Ghost Rider and bring on the movie!

How i got into Ghost Rider? Well i remembering watching him on Fantastic Four cartoon and for some reason my brother got Ghost Rider, Blaze, and Vengeance action figures and i always played with them. and in 8th grade i was at the mall and was either going to buy the punisher marvel legend or the Ghost Rider one because i remebered the action figure, so i got the Rider and the comic inside blew me away. a month later i go into my local comic shop for the 1st time in awhile and see their selling comics for 50 cents and i happen to stumble on a ghost rider motherload and needless to say that comic shop has been dry of ghost rider comics since then.

Awesome thread.

I got into Ghost Rider through the 'Midnight Masacre' arc. I bought them when I was first getting into comics because the black covers were awesome. That was the story that began my obsession into the occult world of the Marvel Universe.

Ghost Rider appealed to me most because of the honor in his vengeance... which, by the way, is why I loved the 90's version more than the Blaze. Again, perhaps that's only because that's what I found first. First loves are hard to back down from.

Late 2003, I heard rumblings of a movie, I joined the hype and my obsession kinda went out of control.

I'm loving every minute of it though. Bring on Feb!

When I was a boy, I always liked comics, but never latched onto one particular character. I'd buy a Batman comic/graphic novel here or a Spidey one there. Then, in 1990, I was browsing in my local comic emporium (Odyssey in Leeds, now a Forbidden Planet) and I caught sight of a character who looked wildly different to all the other generic, spandex-wearing 'Captain Hero Man's' on the shelves.

He was dressed in biker gear. :word:
He had a flaming skull. :ghost:
He rode a bike with flaming tyres. :wow:
And he looked like he could kick the living hell out of anyone or anything that got in his way. :cmad:

My friends all had comic characters they considered theirs. I'd finally found mine.

I bought the comic most every month, only stopping when someone stuck him in a god-awful red and yellow jumpsuit. I even bought the Spirits of Vengeance title when that was running.

I'm 32 now and couldn't be happier that, after so many years, my boy's about to get the big-budget, big screen treatment, and that there's a new ongoing series. I really hope that after being a cult favourite for so many years, Ghost Rider will break into the mainstream following the release of the film. He's such a great character, he deserves to.

Itīs a hard work. I live in a Southamerican country. GR stuff is rare around these lands.
And i follow the GR movie news since 2000, every day.
Itīs almost there. Here, the opening day is march, 2nd.

I started off reading Ghost Rider and Dan Ketch because he was a skull clad flaming biker on a hot ride, and I thought that looked brilliant when I was 8/9. But Ghost Rider won me as a character during issue 23 and 24, during his first decisive battle with Deathwatch.

I was hooked ever since. Well, while Valez, Jr. wrote the book I stopped collecting issues, but that never stopped me from paying tribute to Ghostie in art. In the last 5 years I took more interest in the character as a whole and not just Dan Ketch's character but Blaze, and his history (thank you Essentials).

I've been following the movie production ever since I had internet connection, and never though this day would come, let alone preparing to see it more than once.

I haven't done so in a while, but I draw Ghost Rider damn near daily, and he and the people that created him have been my biggest influence and inspiration since childhood.

Well, I think my first encounter with GR was in a German paperback edition of Marvel's Team-up stories: Spider-Man teaming up with GR to fight...Paste-Pot Pete, hilarious. And then, there was this story from Marvel Team-up #91 where Spidey finds GR's "naked" skeleton displayed at a carnival's freak show...and that's where I fell in love with that character.
When I started to collect US-comics, it was the time of Dan Ketch being the GR-host, some really great stories, some...not soooooo good. One of my favorites is the Scarecrow story from the second GR-Annual.
So, I became a fan of the character...and started collecting...

Now I hope MSJ is going to present a big hit for all of us GR-fans.

Lads.

I have my custom ringtones on my phone now. I have my awesome papers and my cell papers ... Thanks to all of you for hooking me up!

It is two weeks to go and I can chat here with Y'all about the Rider and the movie and that is awesome.

My friends and family don't get that I am excited about this movie. I guess it is strange for me that I am a fan of perhaps an obscure character to most non-comic folks, but whatever.

I just wanted to say thanks for giving me a sense of community here on the hype to chat about the rider and express how I feel about MSJ, Howard M., the Rider and all y'all.

No matter where you guys are when you go to see the movie ... we ride together.

Ride on boys. Ride on.

I REALLY know what you mean, CR.
Itīs really hard follow a "obscure" character for so long, giving all the love and efforts.
For me itīs about 13 years of faithful devotion.
And now, our time has come.
Every day, every pic, every news...
Itīs almost unbelieveble.
But itīs real. Itīs near. Very close.
Enjoy every second.
We deserve it!

If you didn't notice, I merged a couple of related threads together to make this one big praising thread for our little community here... which, as we all know, is the best on the hype... and perhaps the entire internet(s)

I love to visit these boards, and specifically the GR forums here, because all of you guys (and girls "tzar" :cwink: ) are so awesome and so in love with possibly the coolest comics character...and so am I!

A couple of years ago, I had no idea what Ghost Rider was...and then I started to lurk here, and learned a lot about him and his history. MSJ is just a ball to chat with, and probably the nicest guy I've never met...FH, BG, MM, CR, Wisco, AD, Webhead, tzar, and all of the rest of you guys just rock the Hype up! I have more friends in you guys than I will ever have!

11 days to go...until we all piss our pants with joy and excitement!!!:word: :ghost: :ghost:
