Thinking of trying this (http://www.muscletalk.co.uk/Frankie_NY's_Mass_Building_Program/m_8817/tm.htm) program for bulking. Any thoughts on this or the 5x5 method in general?

Looks like a pretty standard push/pull workout. Check out Bill Starr's 5x5 Program (http://www.geocities.com/elitemadcow1/5x5_Program/Periodized_5x5.htm). He was one of the originators of that type of workout and I'd recommend his program over this other one. Excellent program for adding mass (as long as you eat like a horse ;) ).

Give it a shot. My back workout looks like this:
Deadlifts (sets/reps depends on which configuration I'm using on that given day)
Wide Grip Pullups 2x10 (bodyweight plus 25 lb. plate)
Hammer Grip Pullups - 2x10 (bodyweight plus 25 lb. plate)
Rack Chins - 2x10 w/45 lb. plate in lap
Pulldowns
Bench Supported Rows supersetted with heavy cable rows (sets/reps depends on which configuration I'm using on that given day)
Then I go on to hammer my triceps after that.

Thanks jag, I'd come across that before and wasn't sure about it. Squating 3x a week seems like overkill. I mean, I know squats = growth, but I dunno if my body can take that right now. I'll keep researching.

Ditto everything mrvl said. And allow me to co-sign the CARDIO!
I would say drop the 300 workout personally (are you actually doing it as it is listed or a toned down version?). But I have personal issues with that whole thing, so dont get me started. If you have been doing it and you say it has been working, then good, but dont get stuck in one routine either.
Dont bother w/ Hydroxycut or any "fat burning" pills, hard work and clean diet will work.
You doing any cardio? Sounds like you want to drop some weight/fat...what are you doing in this area?
thanks guys for the input..havent reall been focusing on cardio..but i play ball with my kids practically everyday... no real excersize..and yeah i've been pretty good with my diet... it IS a toned down version... i dont wana overtrain..but yeah the results are pretty good so far..... i have already got the muscle i want..i just need to lose the excess fat... yeah i dont get stuck on one routine..this is new to me thats why im gettin results... i had a whole diff liftin routine....
i will focus more on cardio...good lookin out fellas:up:

Deadlifts are still the hardest part of the workout for me, plus i still have to take one a minute break inbetween the exercises. I plan on eliminating that in about a month.

Superman's are for pussies. :oldrazz: Sometimes I swap out the bench supported barbell rows for dumbbell rows or bent over BB rows and I'm always changing out the set/rep scheme as well as the overall weight I'm using. I'll also do some weighted hyperextensions in place of deadlifts occassionally, too. Periodization is the key.

On topic, I have done rack-chins three weeks in a row. I love 'em. I've changed weight anf reps; of course, but I can't stop. I love 'em.
Devil gave me an idea to jazz it up. Instead of weight on me, use no weight and do as many as I can. So I started at 16 and worked down by 4. I began and ended my workout with said exercise.
So thanks to both of you (Jag and Devil).

If I started my workout with rack chin drop sets, the rest of my back and bicep exercises would suffer big time lol.
That tends to happen a lot actually. When I have a killer back workout and sometimes up the weight; my following bicep exercises are poop. Sure, they're getting a workout in during the back exercises but they just don't feel as pumped afterwards...just incredibly fatigued :o

the cheapest i've found (of any bodybuilding product) comes from Proflex Sports. Flat fee shipping and great service.
It's still a bit expensive (because you're paying for the high quality that is Natures Best) but still not too bad...at $61.95. But they often have sales too. I've gotten it as low as $52.00

In further news, Jag and Storm, of the "little-men can be sexy too" group, stated that size does matter. In a recent interview, Mrs. Jag reported that she loves her husband because he is as small as a teddy bear. However, when Jag found out that Storm, his partner in the "little-men can be sexy too" group, interviews his wife, Jag procceded to make Storm do rack-chins with two 45 lbs weights while using a bull whip and ice pick.
Storm was last seen on a white scooter with a large black man who has been indentified as "Spoons." Both men fear for their lives and refuse to agree with the media that the "little-men can be sexy too" group, and the "white women's is crazy" group have formed their own group: "Little and black men can be sexy while running from crazy white women's and their husbands on a very gay white scooter" group.
Important update: Pickle forgives Spoons and want's her "dark chocolate to come home." Also, Jag has gone on record that if Storm ever shows his face he will "rip his butt of and feed it to that guy in the gym who looks like Richard Simmons."

You could probably pare that down to 2x a week, maybe even 1x a week if you're hitting the squats REALLY hard on leg day. I couldn't do it either, but I'm older than most of the guys on the board and need a bit more recovery time, so working the same muscle group repeatedly throughout the week without giving it proper time to recover would probably impede my growth rather than speed it up.

Yeah, even at my age (a spry 19), squatting 3x a week seems like I'd be overtraining. But I suppose you're not hitting them too terribly hard on the 2nd and 3rd days, so maybe that plus a lot of sleep and good post-workout nutrition will keep it all in check.
I'm liking the look of that routine though, especially the emphasis on compounds.

Helpful information:
Mrvlknight21 was named "Devil" by me a few years ago because he is a huge Daredevil fan. The second reason behind his nickname is because not only is my last name, we also have friends with nicknames such as "Cheese," "Yellow," "Shooter," and "BA." I thought it would be fitting for Mrvlknight21 to have a nickname as well. Furthermore, in argeement with Jag, Devil is much easier to type, and faster, I might add, then Mrvlknight21.
Extra tidbit for you information junkies, he also will answer to three other names: The Commish, Vineyard, and the third will be release if a large payment is sent to an off shore account in my name.

Quick update for you lazy pieces of jawa vomit:
Devil and I jogged a mile and hit a, at-home, chest workout. The workout consisted of 5x6 inclines, 5x6 flat bench, 8x5 upper chest shoulder press, and angled dips with a weighted bag.
Also, I shouldn't be on much longer because I'm going to visit a girl. So keep your fingers crossed, minds clean, and pray I don't screw it up.
Littlt tidbit on the lady in question, she actually wants to workout on our first date. Her words, "a light jog, maybe you can show me some interval running and that burpee thing."

Well, looks like I'm a prime candidate for the LASIK. The guy I'm going to is the tops in the state and he's got the advanced equipment that allows the procedure to be done completely by laser, which means no spinning razor blades near my eyes. I'm booked for April 20th after which point I'll be donating my glasses to charity. Devil, most of these LASIK places offer free assessment and consultation to see if you're a good candidate for the surgery and to answer any questions. The guy I'm going to said that they have less than 5% of patients who experience issues, and that number is dropping since they got their new equipment in January that allows the procedure to be done completely with computer controlled lasers. Maybe you should do some research on who the hot **** LASIK guy is in your area that uses the latest equipment and set up an appointment for her?

I do 3 sets of 6 reps for EVERYTHING except abs and calves. I like it a lot; I've been adding more weight consistantly. I like 6 cuz it's a low number that you can really get some crazy powerful lifts out of.
I did cardio today as well. Rode the spinner bike at various speeds on a hi-lo intensity. I was totally zoned out for most of it b/c I got a new trance mix(58mins long) and before I knew it, the cardio was over:D

Also because my bloodwork came back yesterday and let's just say I need to start working-out again.

Got a Bowflex myself back in 2001 bro. I used some of the workouts that they show in the book that it came with, but others, i just don't like. I got it with the leg extension piece but not with the back/pull down part. To be honest i've grown tired of it and only use if for calf exercises now. But it is a good machine though.

How hard are bellies to get rid of?
Unfortunately, I've developed a bit of a belly. Earlier this year, I started going to the gym, doing 2 classes a week of hour long excercise. I also jogged regularly too. I eat properly. I don't eat any junk. I'll have the occasional pizza but thats it. I eat lots of fruit each day and vegetables with every dinner. I don't overeat. I started doing 4 days a week at the gym, two of the classes being an hour long on the indoor bike. A big calorie burner. I jogged every wedensday too. But I stopped the jogging, because jogging always ends up hurting my ankles.
Anyway, I sort of lost the will for the gym and stopped going. I wasn't seeing much progress on the belly, and I had been going to the gym for about two months.

Not a bad idea. I hired a PT/Nutritionist for my wife to help her learn how to eat properly and manage an exercise program. Sort of a reward for her quitting smoking and wanting to be serious about being healthy again. I found a good one who matched her goals appropriately, so I'll just give the same advice to you. PT's are a dime a dozen and there are some BAD ones out there. Find a PT who's also heavy into the nutrition side of things as that's what 90% of this is, and make sure it's someone who has competed (successfully would be best) in bodybuilding competitions and at least still somewhat look the part. Then they'll really know what the hell they're talking about. I've seen way too many PT's who are skinny or have pot-bellies acting like they know everything there is to know about building muscle or fat loss, and much of the time with those types I've overheard them giving terrible advice to their clients. Take your time and find someone who knows what the hell they are doing and can back up their knowledge with their experience and their own bodies as an example.

ALWAYS with personal trainers you want to make sure they have proper certifications. You can get bogus certifications over the internet these days. It's ridiculous. You have every right to ask them for credentials and you really should. It's your body, we're talking about, and a bad personal trainer could really eff up important things like joints and discs. Also, you should look for a personal trainer who will work with your needs. I've met some that want to turn their clients into their vision of health and not the client's. For instance, my personal trainer that I worked with last summer looked great. She was a professional dancer, yoga instructor and certified personal trainer. She'd never power lifted in her life. However, she was perfectly suited to my fitness needs.

FYI about the Lasik surgery. My good friend Todd had it done in Canada. If you live anywhere close to the border, in Canada he got the most top-of-the-line, advanced Lasik surgery available anywhere for the cost of run of the mill Lasik surgery in the USA. Just some food for thought.

Thanks for the food for thought, Babs. :) The laser system the guy I'm going to have do my LASIK surgery is the latest technology in the industry....world-wide. Canada's not going to have anything better. The same, maybe, but not better because it doesn't exist. And this guy has been doing eye surgeries for a very long time. He knows his stuff. If he didn't, he wouldn't be getting anywhere near my eyes. I wonder if they'd let me use Labatt's Blue as a sedative prior to the surgery up there, though? :D

Heh! Yeah, I understand it's pretty painless and overwith very quickly. My brother and several friends have had it done. The new equipment uses a laser for everything, including making the small incision and flap under which the actual modifications to the eye are made, so the precision and heal time is increased greatly over when they used to use the tiny rotating razor blades for the job.

Hey Golgo, Often when I do wall sits (like you are referring to). I follow them up w/ squat jumps, rest then go again. So you are using a static hold followed by an explosive movement (called a complex pair). Try it when you want to mix things up and really smoke your thighs.

Very good points, something I have always said as well. Some people want to perform better at a sport and the trainer will get them on a bodybuilding program when they need sport specific exercises, more speed, conditioning, or whatever. In my opinion the NSCA (that you listed) may be the most knowledgeable. I almost got my cert. from ISSA, but changed my mind since I wasnt sure how much I would actually use it (plus it seemed that it was one of the least respected because you can do it on the internet very quickly). Again, good points.

I do agree with Babs. Finding a trainer who suits your goals is very important, and that's sort of what I was saying in my other post, though it was sort of tailored towards Worthy's particular goals. Even with certifications, there are a lot of PT's who don't know practical application of what they're so studied up about. That's why I think experience counts for a lot. If you want to put on a lot of muscle and bodybuild, find a PT who's a bodybuilder. If you want to have a dancer's body, find one who trains appropriately and knows what they are doing. The same would apply if you were hiring a boxing or martial arts teacher, or a kayak instructor. PT's should be no different.

Good job Spoons, this almost sounds like what I did with Storm on Friday-incline-45-55-65, flat -65-75-85, my powerblocks only go to 85, but at work I do 95s on the last set. I just wish I had a barbell to do bench with every now and then.

Best way I can describe it is that it's like doing (alternating feet) jump rope really fast without a rope.

Interesting article. At least they finally say that the 300 workout is not practical for the average person. I have yet to read any articles about this thing that point out the obvious about that. They also alluded to the actors doing a lot more than just this workout, and also finally pointed out another obvious thing about it all:
"This kind of transformation requires a change in diet, sleep patterns, stress levels and attitude."
That's the first time I've seen any of those things mentioned in relation to the 300 Workout as well, which are HUGE....let me say it again...HUGE components of getting the bodies the people doing this workout are usually in pursuit of. Yet it's only mentioned in a little blurb with absolutely zero details. I doubt it ever will be, either, because that's the proprietary information these trainers have that make them valuable, not the workout itself (which is why they gave a lot of that away for free, knowing that it would generate a lot of free publicity for themselves).
Still, at least people are getting off their duffs and trying to get in shape. I'm sure many will quit after two months when they don't look anything at all like the Spartans did in the film, but if even a handful stick with it and turn to more conventional ways of getting into shape and learn how to do it right, then that's a success in my book. I'm just waiting for some out of shape fatty with heart problems to keel over while trying to do this workout, though, and his family to then sue the 300 crew for it. You know it's coming.

As for the "300 workout" itself, Westcott says, it isn't practical for the average person.
Though he's glad the movie has inspired people to get fit, Bill Phillips, author of the 12-week strength program book Body for Life, says he hopes they don't get hurt or discouraged in the process.
He says that by incorporating reasonable bodybuilding routines — 45 minutes of strength training, three days a week — people can see a change.

wow... I just jogged for the longest time in my entire life...
two minutes, 55 seconds.
for a guy who's at 285 and never really jogged in his life, that's an incredible achievement... and I could keep walking if my ankles didn't start to hurt.
okay, now on to a small concern:
I can't begin to say how much I'm starting to walk and jog, but I am a bit concerned... I just did 1.2 miles inside a house walking around a small circle. Even though it's cardio, does it hinder the overall experience by doing the cardio inside the house as compared to walking outside on uneven ground and gravel?
Also for some reason, I was walking and jogging without shoes on... is that unhealthy? I can always put on shoes and socks, but when I start walking, my ankles start to become inflamed, and that becomes a problem when I'm walking outside.

Babs Gordon

Unless it's really cold outside cardio is cardio. The only difference is that unless you're on a treadmill that can incline, outside you have more opportunity to go up and down hills working different muscle groups.
Also, at your weight you definitely want to be supporting your feet. It will be mighty hard to walk or run in the future if you mess up your feet now. Make sure you have walking/running shoes that fit properly. If you live in a place that has a running store, they can fit you with a shoe that works with your needs.

Seriously, though, are you using something like fitday.com to help you get your diet in order? That's what will make or break you. I'd stay low impact for awhile and gravitate between walking and power-walking. The running might be too much for your joints until you drop more of the weight. Indoors or outdoors won't make too much of a difference, though I suspect the view outdoors might offer a bit more variety. I know you have some foot issues. To be honest, exercising without proper arch support might make them worse, so I'd get some good walking shoes. Did you ever try my suggestion of getting some inexpensive Dr. Scholl's orthotic inserts to see if they helped?

where I live, inside offers more variety... that's how incredibly boring it is out here in Florida...
seriously though, with the jogging I did today, it was exhilarating..., and the best thing was, had it not been for me being out of breath, I would of kept going, but all in all, I usually get kinda flustered when I walk outside, but when I jogged to the song I was listening to, I wasn't flustered in the least bit... My heart wasn't even beating as fast as I thought it would, which was kinda weird...

I am no expert but I will tell you this, a stationary bike would be much better on your legs. You'll actually burn more calories for the same length of time, and it's less stress on your body. Buy a bike trainer or bike stand and put a real bike in it. Racers use these indoors to keep in shape during off weather. A real bike will be much better for your ass, too. I found that the seats on exercise bikes were much too small and my ass would give out before my legs (I ain't got no padding, man. It's all on my belly! :p). With a real bike you can put any seat you want on it and you might be mroe comfortable. My feet hurt me plenty if I am on them too long, including walking, but the bike doesn't bother them at all because you are not supporting all of your weight on them the whole time. Plus, a bike trainer holds the bike so well, your hands are free. I find my ride time goes by faster when I can read at the same time. :)
Super Kal

If you'd rather just get an exercise bike, get a spin bike that you can pop a regular bike saddle onto. The shape/fit of a bike saddle is hugely important (everyone's but bones are a different width). However, it will take a week or two to get the butt calluses to develop so don't mistake butt callus production for a poor saddle fit. Also get toeclips that you can tighten around your feet.
One day I will have a trainer though... maybe when I stop spending my money on bike parts, I will get one.

Figuring out your CALORIE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calorie) requirements (2-STEP PROCESS):
Step 1: Calculate your BMR (http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/) (WHAT'S BMR? CLICK HERE TO FIND OUT) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basal_metabolic_rate)
Step 2: Multiply your BMR by the appropriate activity level modifier (http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/harris-benedict-equation/)
If <20% BF:
For cutting (CALORIE DEFICIT), I suggest -200 cals. For bulking (CALORIE SURPLUS), I suggest +200 cals
If >20% BF:
For cutting (CALORIE DEFICIT), I suggest -500 cals. For bulking (CALORIE SURPLUS), YOU DELUSIONAL? CUT!
Figuring out your MACRONUTRIENT (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macronutrient) ratios:
I recommend:
1.5g of protein per lb of bodyweight
20% of your calories should come from healthy fats (40% POLYUNSATURATED (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyunsaturated_fat), 30% MONOUNSATURATED (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monounsaturated_fat), & 30% SATURATED (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturated_fat))
Carbs are up to you (I PREFER TO KEEP COMPLEX CARBS AT BREAKFAST, PREWORKOUT, AND POSTWORKOUT)
Other important tips:
Meal size & frequency are not set in stone. (FYI SMALLER/MORE FREQUENT MEALS YEILDS FOR OPTIMAL ABSORPTION OF NUTRIENTS)
I recommend P+C+F (P = Protein, C = Carbohydrate, F = Fat) in every meal except:

immediate post workout (P+C)
and bedtime (P+F)

I reversed all of those things without drugs, except for the low test, so if I can be of any help, just holler.

I love my trainer. What's cool about it is you can easily pop your regular bike in and out of it at will so it's not like you lose the use of your bike for outside. :) I have a nice big fat gel seat for my ass so I am comfortable there for a good while.
I like to force myself to use the normal saddle I have. It's a women's style, suited for my wider set butt bones. If I got a real cushy one though I'd never get the butt calluses I need for the season. Grrr. Once the snow is gone I am not looking forward to the sore rear end stage.
Right now I've got myself on an elliptical training program. I bump up the resistance one level every third time I use it for 40 minutes at a time. Mostly I watch the calories per minute at each level and when they've gone up 3 or 4 calories per minute at one level, i'll move on to the next resistance.

It depends on what you're shooting for, if it's for fat burning then that sounds about right. I think between a 12-16 min mile is what is ideal for fat burning. If you are shooting for more endurance and to develop your cardiovascular system you might want to bump it down to a 10 min mile pace.
I was at an 8 min mile pace over the summer, I worked my way up to 2 miles by the end of the summer. Still felt like my cardio system wasn't where I wanted it to be.

I am doing a good bit of running these days. When I run 1 mile or 1 1/2 miles, I do about 6:30-7 minute pace. When I do 2.5 or more, I do about 11 minute mile pace.
But, you said, jog/walk and as Humbug said, it is dependant on your goals.

Depending on your current fitness level, sprints are optimal for fat loss. But, If you do not have an aerobic base, do not try to start these. I am not suggesting only sprints, but maybe adding them once a week to what you are doing.

Well if you are really shooting to burn fat that occurs after 20 mins of cardio activity at a moderate pace.
From what I remember off the top of my head your ideal target heart rate for burning fat is 60-85% (some say 75-85%) of your max.
More on that here.

Yeah I remember when we used to run sprints in football practice (of course I was in high school then), but man did I and everyone else drop weight fast. Of course we ran so many so hard in the summer that we probably dropped some muscle mass as well, but still, the fat just shed off my body. A lot of water weight as well, but I was really, really lean. Of course really skinny too, but I doubt I was more than 10% body fat at the time.
But as Knight said, you only want to incorporate them once or twice a week, depending on your goal and fitness level. Sprints are also great muscle builders for your legs. Due to they target your fast twitch muscles which are used for fast, powerful explosive moves.

Actually, I doubt you lost muscle mass form the sprints, if "cardio" causes a loss of muscle, it usually occurs from long slow distance (and possibly not feeding them enough protein). Sprints are actually shown to burn fat long after the exercise is complete and increase growth hormone as well. Look at a sprinter's body and look at a marathon runners body and this is obvious (yes, there are other training/diet differences between the two, but the point remains).

Yeah, but I'm sure I lost some, I mean I didn't eat even the minimum in protein to maintain my muscle development. But I get your point

f you are going to supplement, supplement properly. You should ingest approximately 1 to 2 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight each day. You should also eat a considerably large amount of calories. Remember though, that you should be getting most of your protein, calories, etc. from food and what you can't get, needs to be made up with supplements. Right now, I am eating between 2000 to 3000 calories a day because I'm preparing for a bodybuilding competition. Like I said earlier, you should be able to gain approximately 1-2 lbs. of muscle per 100 lbs. of bodyweight each week.

Agreed, I'm helping my ex-gf refine her workouts and eating habits. Her aunt lost a lot of weight by exercising and cutting down on the size of her meals. She still ate the same things (she eats healthy btw), but just ate 5-6 smaller meals to lose weight.
Of course there are some major things she was leaving out in terms of nutrition, but she didn't starve herself or stop eating, and when she craved it she would have the occasional junk food or sweet. But she usually did it by eating off of her kids plate and only taking a few bites at most of something, cake, brownies or cookies.
Unfortunately she lost a lot of her ass too :(

ditto for me. I don't take any supplements at all except a multivitamin. I used to take whey, but I stopped buying it and noticed I could still put on muscle just as easily with my normal nutrition and don't need it. especially since I'm not trying to put on any more muscle, just staying lean.
I helped a friend move out of his apartment into a new one across the street, and him and his roommate must have had more than $1000 in supplements in their kitchen. it was useless, they both had bellies, it was just turning into fat.

There are some differences, but primarily it really depends on your goals more than anything else. Most of the guys here either want to get ripped up or drop a lot of weight, so we usually discuss the things that will help them accomplish those goals. Most women are after a little firming up and maybe dropping a few pounds, and we really don't get that many questions about that in this thread. But, a lot of the same things still apply.

5% bodyfat is not a healthy bodyfat percentage. That is bodybuilding competition level bodyfat and is very, very low. To the point that it can cause health issues if you try to maintain that BF on a consistent basis. At 5%, every single vein and every single bump of muscle will show in vivid detail like you see on guys onstage in competition; in short, you will be shredded beyond freakin' belief. It's also not a bodyfat you just happen to get to. Competitive bodybuilders have to work their tails off with HUGE amounts of specifically timed cardio activity and weight training and eat a VERY controlled diet geared specifically for getting to that bodyfat ratio in order to achieve it. It's not something that just happens naturally. And, it's also pretty much impossible to add muscle mass at that BF ratio as well as your body needs higher bodyfat (around 10%+) in order to be able to effectively add lean muscle. Additionally, most people lose a significant amount of size when they go down to that bodyfat ratio, so for example your 20" arms would be around 22" at a 12% BF ratio (which is below normal BF, btw). You'll understand that most people will find the believability of such an arm size skeptical at best. I'm curious about how you came to the conclusion that you are 5% bodyfat.
NO2 has been touted as a major miracle supplement by some, snake oil by others. Here's a good primer on it:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/no2.html
Personally, I think it's snake oil. It produces a good pump but I don't believe it results in lasting long term muscle gains overall. Supplement companies make a mint off the stuff, so there's a lot of misinformation out there about it and the long-term effects of it on people's health is largely uknown. You can get a similar pump by placing a couple of vegetarian B-12 sublingual dots under your tongue about thirty minutes before a workout. NO2 products mostly use the primary component of L-Arginine, and some people use that stuff directly instead of the expensive NO2 supplements, but it also can present some potential health risks. One of those health risks is that it aggravates and inflames the air passages of asthma sufferers and has been known to induce sever breathing troubles, full blown asthma attacks, coronary arrest and even brain damage in those who suffer too much oxygen intake deficiency over time. Personally, it's not a supplement I ascribe to. :)

For the hardcore pro level ones during peak competition season, around 7%, maybe., but probably closer to 8-9% The problem for triathletes is when you get to that bodyfat your glucogen stores are very small, which doesn't help endurance. It's a fine balance between optimal bodyweight/muscle-mass ratio and bodyfat percentage. Any lower than 7% and they'd have very little glucogen stores to enable them to keep up the endurance and speed they need. Tricky stuff.

That still won't get you to 5%. It's not a natural bodyfat percentage. It doesn't just happen because you have a fast metabolism, run a lot and eat organic foods all your life. I should also add that if you truly are down to that BF percentage, you may want to bring it up another 5 percentage points because it's seriously not a healthy bf ratio to maintain on a long term basis. It can cause some major health issues down the line.

All right. I suppose I'll ask a flat out, unexciting question. By June I'd like to be in good cycling form. I.e. strong legs and core between 15-18% body fat. This means dropping about ten pounds of winter weight (argh!). I have been aiming to get in at least 40 minutes of cardio every day, anywhere from speedwalking, hiking a mountain, elliptical training or on a spin bike. There's still too much ice and snow here to get on my bike outside, but soon, I hope.
My personal trainer last summer had me in great shape doing a combination of weight training about an hour three times a week and then doing 30-40 minutes of cardio five days a week. Problem is I don't have time to weight train... my teaching/houseparenting schedule is super erratic leavinig me only hour long spots here and there which is not enough time to get into town to the gym :cmad:. Anyway, what can I do around home to reach my goal?

There are some differences, but primarily it really depends on your goals more than anything else. Most of the guys here either want to get ripped up or drop a lot of weight, so we usually discuss the things that will help them accomplish those goals. Most women are after a little firming up and maybe dropping a few pounds, and we really don't get that many questions about that in this thread. But, a lot of the same things still apply.
Yeah, not bloody likely. Where did you get this from?
I didn't think so. Here is the article link at the bottom reply.

Here is the article Jag. I was under the impression it's hard enough to put on 1lb of solid muscle in a month.

As for the rest of Jag's response, I was going to put in my two cents. But I knew Jag would come along and say it better than I could. But I was thinking the same things pretty much. 5% body fat? 20" guns? hmmmm

Honestly, anyone with those kind of stats either worked specifically towards those goals or is a genetic freak and should be pursuing a career as a professional bodybuilder.

Uh oh. this looks like a job for. Bah Humbbbug! :D
I may not be able to get you into super great shape, but I can help you out, working out mostly at home myself, other than when I hit the track or basketball court and I don't have a home gym at my place, just some dumbells, weight plates, pull up bar, medince ball, swiss ball and a curl bar. There are tons of body weight exercises that you can utilize to get into shape.
Do you have any weights at your house? Or do you rely soley on the gym? If you don't mind a somewhat unsightly obstruction in one of your doorways a pull up bar is cheap ($15 at most) and very effective.
Medicine ball is another cheap and reliable piece of exercise equipment you can obtain easily and utilize for many different exercises.
And lastly, the all important swiss/balance ball. I got mine for $10 at Big 5.
Just to name a few
Lunges, Jumping Lunges (love these) Skip Jumps (basically skipping, but as high as you can with minimum distance forward). Farmers Walk, Calve Raises can be performed on stairs, defensive slides (basketball drill that is an excellent lower body workout, especially for your quads and glutes  ), Jump Squats, Jump Rope for your calves.
Medicine ball push ups (medicine balls can be utlized in many ways), military or plyo pushups, pull ups, dips (can use two chairs of even height for this exercise), inverted push ups etc.
Plank, side plank, a swiss ball can be used for lower back extension exercises, weighted swiss ball crunch and a lot more.
Sprints are great leg developers as well.
Where do you currently stand right now? You said you want to obtain 15-18% body fat. Ideal weight or just strength development and fat loss?
