Rocky would disagree. :o

Congrats on the new home BTW, Jag.

Rocky never ate the shells. And no one ever told Rocky that humans can't digest raw egg whites, either. :o

And thanks. I'm jacked about the new place. Been painting all damn day on our current place, with more to come. Just taking a bit of a lunch break before I head back to the paint.

I usually work out first thing in the morning and don't have any trouble getting motivated. But some days I can't do it right off and by the time I can, it's late, I'm tired and I find I have to talk myself in to it. Anybody got any ideas on how to motivate yourself when you're just not feeling it?

Stand naked in front of a full length mirror, turn sideways, stick your stomach out as far as it will go. You'll find your motivation. :hyper:

Seriously, I just dig in and work out even though I don't feel like it and I'm usually back into it and feeling the groove by the time I'm halfway through. Usually makes me feel a hell of a lot better that I did it. It's important to listen to your body, though, and learn to tell the difference between when it just telling you it's feeling lazy and when it seriously needs rest and time to catch up with you.

I tried that new brand Muscle Asylum's chocolate blackout protein today....yikes. The first couple sips tasted delicious...really chocolate-y. Then it just got sickening...it's really thick and doesn't mix well, so there were all these little chunks in it still. I felt so sick afterwards.

BAH HUMBBUG!

lol, is there a certain way to jump, or do you just... jump?

Yes. They should have the exercise on bodybuilding.com but here is the basic concept.

So you take the lung right.

1. Start from a standing position, feet about shoulder width apart.

2. Step forward with one leg until your foot touches the ground. The knee of your other leg that is stationary should almost touch the ground.

3. Do not let your knee go over your toes, it should stay in line over your ankle and heel.

4. Either take a step (walking lunges) and bring your stationary leg forward until you are back at the start then step with the other leg.

or

4. Take a step back into your starting position then step forward with your other leg and repeat.

If you were to do jumping lunges or russian lunges you would start by assuming a lung position.

Then put your hands behind your head (optional, you can choose to hold your sides or keep your arms free for balance.) Then jump in the air and switch legs, landing with your legs in opposite starting positions.

So if your right leg was back and your left leg forward, you would jump switch legs in the air and then land. Your left leg would be back and your right leg forward.

These might or might not be a little too hard (not sure about your fitness level.) So start with regular lunges and go from there. If you want to try them just do three to start and do six sets.

Enjoy your new killer buttocks

Ab rollers are not a horrible idea, nor are they one of the instant ab results pieces of equipment.

They are not the best thing, but you can actually get results from them and if your core is weak you have back problems or need to learn proper form they are not a bad idea.

Although after a while any given person will out grow them with enough training, as little as a month and nor more than a few months and an abl roller would become useless due to the strength you will have built and you would be able to perform much more intensive exercises.

Ab rollers are a waste of money. They often promote poor form to boot. Like I always say, there are no shortcuts.

Ugh. It's been over two weeks since I've been able to lift and I'm going bat**** insane. I've made a TON of progress on getting the house ready for sale and starting to pack stuff away for the move. I still can't bring myself to tear down my Power-Rack, though. I won't have any time to use it before we make our move to the new house just after Halloween, but just seeing it there every day reminds me to stay focused and get through all this craziness so I can get back to the iron in November.

PLus most of them offer support while training taking away part of the reward. Like free weights are better IMO as their is no machine taking some of the load.

All in all, I've probably got ~$2k invested. I didn't spend it all at once, of course. Well worth the cost as I'd have spent that much on a gym membership the last three years. Plus, it's all right here and available to me whenever I want to use it. I'm not at the mercy of anyone else's schedule.

enterthemadness

:whatever: gatorade has corn syrup and high frutcose corn syrup, and sugar. The first two puts on fat and is linked to diabetes. You also don't need the sugar or the calories that comes with it. Drinking it every now and then isn't bad, if you are playing lots of basketball or being very active (like marathon or something). However, water is the best choice.

I disagree. I drink Gatorade EVERYTIME i work out. It is way better than water especially when drinking it in hot weather, as it puts back crucial salts your body looses. I'm not too concerned about calories as i'm lean anyway.

Either way, it's the reason Butler enlisted the help of Mark Twight, a former world-class mountain climber who, based on personal experience, believes in training as if your life depends on it. In fact, Twight would argue that a good workout should make you feel almost queasy upon hearing what lies ahead. For example, to hasten Butler's mind-body transformation, he created what he calls the "300-rep Spartan workout." (Trust us, 100 reps is plenty hard.) (*2 (http://www.menshealth.com/cda/article.do?site=MensHealth&channel=guy.wisdom&category=life.lessons&conitem=de42ad5c08450110VgnVCM10000013281eac____&page=3#2)) It goes like this: Without resting between exercises, Butler performs 25 pullups, 50 deadlifts with 135 pounds, 50 pushups, 50 jumps on a 24-inch box, 50 floor wipers (*3 (http://www.menshealth.com/cda/article.do?site=MensHealth&channel=guy.wisdom&category=life.lessons&conitem=de42ad5c08450110VgnVCM10000013281eac____&page=3#3)), 50 single-arm clean-and-presses using a 36-pound kettle bell, and 25 more pullups. All this, in addition to utilizing other unconventional yet equally taxing training methods, such as tire flipping and gymnastics-style ring training. Sound like hell? It is. In fact, upon receiving his marching orders for a Spartan workout, one of Butler's costars told Twight, "It feels like you just killed my dog."

Most importantly however is to start on the beard now.

I haven't had much time lately to hit the weights, but I've been doing it at least 2-3 times a week.

I signed up for a basic weight training class for next semester, so that'll definitely help out

jaguarr

A three-day split can be very, very advantageous to growth and strength increases, Franny. Gives your body a lot of time to heal between workouts. I've been using a three-day split with cardio on off days and one full day of rest without any cardio or lifting per week for years, now. If you map out your split to reap maximum benefits out of your lifts so that they compliment eachother over the course of the week, you can make some serious progress. You don't need to lift 5-6 days a week to make progress and, in most instances, people usually overtrain in a big way when they do. More isn't better, better is better.

A good basic weight training class will be good for you to learn proper form, gym ettiquette and safety as well as expose you to some new exercises you may not have tried on your own.

My brother in law and sister are using it. It's nothing special. It's not a bad system but it's nothing you can't achieve with a gym membership. It focuses more on trimming, building endurance and tonning/cutting.

You will get in better shape for sure, but you won't be building muscle with it. At least not a lot.

jaguarr
10-17-2007, 10:49 AM
The home fitness systems like Bowflex and similar machines won't put much muscle on someone. They're okay for getting toned and trim, but don't provide enough resistance for the heavy work needed to really build muscle. I'd say you'll make good newbie gains for the first ~6 months with a system like that and then stall out and plateau.

Hey Jag so I've been working on my core recently to strenghten it before I get back into the gym and I was wondering what are your favorite lower ab exercises.

I've been working on lying hip raises, incline hip raises and hanging hip raises.

They feel good and I am using proper form but I feel the soreness in my upper abs the next day not my lower abs. Any suggestions for other exercises?

So over the last few months of training and learning more about eating and what not. I've found that it would appear most all natural or organic foods stay fresher longer and cost the same or less than foods enhanced with growth hormones or perservatives.

What's the deal? I don't get the sense in that? I thought the whole reason foods had hormones and perservatives and other crap in them was to keep them fresher longer and to keep cost down by producing more in a shorter period of time?

Forgive me. I do not wish to offend the decent ladies on this board. But why does logic and reason always vanish in a argument with a woman?

We've been dating for 4 months. I have one more semester to finish before it is feasible for me to transfer to the university that is close to her. She lives 3 hours away.

My opening statement was, "I am open to discussion; but don't you think it is too early in the relationship for us to be talking about moving closer to one another?"

Her answer, and I can't explain how her voice sounded, but one can imagine: "NO IT'S NOT!"

When you talk to her later, tell her you love her, that you didn't mean to upset her and that you just want to make sure that the both of you do what is best for your relationship and that you'll have a better idea of what is possible when you get further into next semester. I had a similar situation with my ex, but it was moving in with her, but we had also been together for.....more than six years.....yeahhhh....that conversation did not go that well.

But for yours, since you're only four months into the relationship....keep your stance, don't cave. She may also be testing you, women do this. Not all but some, she may also want to see how easily you cave in to her.

It could be for various reasons. Either to see how easy or hard it is for her to get her way with you, or to see how you stick to your guns and won't give in to her, that you won't cave when she is upset or crys.

Yes her real reason is just to be closer to you, but women often have alterior motives, as do men. Not all but a lot.

Just tell her ok, then bang her one more time then call her and tell her that you think the sex was incosiderate and inappropiate and that you're breaking up with her. Click.
Now, and forever, the line for pwning!

Ok, so I havent been here in a while and decided to check in today especially since Storm told me he came on here to tell you guys about his girl problem. But, since I started a few pages back, let me catch up by expressing my opinion on a few things I saw.
#1 water> gatorade
#2 ab wheels are a nice CHEAP piece of equipment (you can find them new for about $5 or at a yard sale for about 50 cents). But use it for what it is for-it is not a substitute for core work, it is just another tool for the core workout toolbox, just a supplemental thing to be used as a new challenge/movement for the core. But, as mentiioned-check your form
#3 snickers marathons taste great-that being said-they are full of junk!

finally-Jag, you nailed it w/ Storm's issue. The girl is sheltered and a little immature. I think she is putting the pressure on Storm hoping he will cave and be hers forever.

Sorry I havent been around, 7 weeks of training is over, 9 more to go. I have limited internet access during the week. But, my run times and pushups and situps are improving quite well (these are the main things we do, since this is what our PT test is comprised of).

It's never sick, always wants to work out when I do, always wants to do the same routine as me and has never let me down when I needed it the most. No missed spots because it's checking out some girl or talking to someone else. And, it's there to work out, not f**k around at the gym.

Don't you remember the detailed conversations we had in here about the anabolic window, which is 60 minutes, and how exceeding that by much means you then are working out while in a catabolic state which is horribly detrimental to your overall progress? Step up your intensity and work out harder during that time; quality over quantity. More is not better, better is better.

Push ups. Military or plyometric pushups (push yourself off the floor as high as you can and clap your hands then as softly as possibly land on your hands then repeat.)

Inverted pushups for your shoulders. Balance yourself against a wall and perform pushups with your feet in the air.

Something that can support your weight for pull ups and chin ups.
