Have you read Jags sig yet? Every day you're here asking if what you're eating is good, or saying"maybe I should workout today." Have a weekly routine set up for your workout or you're just wasting time on the internet and not really serious about it. I just had the most frustrating workout I think....ever. Won't bore y'all w/ the details but people need to leave their cell phones and fat friends outside the gym. This is a place of business, not yapping and endangering other people/yourself.

Anyway, tonight was my last workout of the 5x5 routine. I HIGHLY recommend it for any experienced lifters looking to add some strength. I would have gained more mass had my calories been in order at the beginning of it(I promise to fix that next time I do this). Now I'm going to enjoy a much-deserved week off; still doing cardio though :D:up:

it was literally JUST taken out of the freezer . . . not really sure what I can do for a quick, healthy meal other than that :(

Sounds like a job for the Foreman grill!

1) You once said you did squatted and benched in the same night, in a workout you did a few times a week.
2) How could you be seeing results from your diet if you started two or three days ago, and haven't even been keeping on track with it properly?

Yeah, because I was working on my legs & chest those days but I never said I do that routine all the time. Besides that, I told you, I have a high metabolism & good genes that run through my family so I'm able to burn fat pretty fast & how in the blue hell do you know if I've been keeping track of it properly?

Been away from the hype.

You know this, because I told you - on the phone, not two hours ago.

Anyhow - 2 miles. March 5th.

I figure I can up my mileage, at the least one mile a month - then peak at 3 or 4 and work on my time for the 5k.

At the most, I can up the mileage quicker. One mile a month would mean 1/4 mile added each weak. What I mean is - if I feel strong, good, etc - I could possibly add 1/2. However, I think that jump in mileage will come later.

I will stick to the 1/4 a week plan.

I wrote that at 7am, we talked at about 11am.
No need to up it quicker. Based on your goals, stick with the program I outlined before and maybe add 1 day to it, you will still average 5 miles a week and get better at your actual goals.
You can up the mileage in about 50 days. But do what you like.

Dude, good genes or not, you're not gonna drop a bunch of meaningful weight/body fat in 2 or 3 days...it just don't happen. What you're likely seeing is a loss of water weight due to your added fiber, since you seem to be eating so many fruits and veggies...

How's everyone doing? Looks like we have some new editions here. Just wanted to let the older hypers know that I finally did it. Yes, that's right. I threw my back out.

I feel like I finally achieved something with my work out :D.

In all honesty....it sucked ass. I think I know how I did it though. Well I actually did it sprinting of all things playing football two weekends ago. But I strained my back over the summer lifting a bit too hard too fast. And being able to lift more with my legs than my upper body put too much strain on my lower back and "pop". Well that is my philosophy on it anyway.

Ha, you wouldn't like this Jag, I've been playing basketball. HA. I didn't fully throw it out and to be honest I think it was more of a pull or strain because I wasn't in extreme pain. I've had friends do it and they said they basically went fetal and cried. I was able to still play football for about 15 mins. until I cooled down then it stiffened.

I rested it for four days and went back to work on the fifth. It was still sore and stiff but I played a little really light basketball, I covered some middle school kid.

Then last Thursday I played about 70%. Monday night I played at 75% or so and last night I played around 90% and went to the gym in the morning. So my back is feeling pretty good. I am going to stay away from my legs for a few weeks or so.

On another note....I am sure that many of us, or at least a few are either right side or left side dominant. I am right side dominant and as a result my right side is stronger than my left as well as bigger. Not mention due to my achilles injury my left leg is smaller than my right.

So....my question is, how can I go about strengthening and increasing my left side without putting a significant stop to training my whole body?

Just one example...I curl 30lbs dumbells right now for three sets of six, but with my left arm I can only perform one set of six then three then one rep.

Here is my thinking, feel free to lend your insight please (jag, spoons, bs, makeminemarvel and others) so once a week I train biceps with chest then once a week I train triceps with back or biceps with back and triceps with chest. Shoulders are usually a day with abs.

I'm thinking if I normally train these muscle groups once a week than two or three days a week I will train the left sided muscle groups but for only one or two exercises.

Nearly everyone has this issue. We're all dominant on one side for the most part (some people are more naturally ambidextrous than others). There a few things that can help. The first is time; just consistent training over the years with conscientious attention to making sure that both sides are doing equal work and the dominant side isn't carrying more of the load will eventually help even you out. The other thing I've done is handle weight plates when I'm setting up or breaking down only with my left arm as it's my weaker side, and that's helped as well. some people do extra work for their weaker side or try to use heavier weight than their dominant side with their weaker side and the results from that are pretty mixed at best. I'd say just keep focused on lifting, making gains and consistently improving and it will eventually catch up with you.

Now OT: what I need to do is by a good chin-up bar. I haven't really needed to do chin-ups in 3-4 months now, I usually go to the near by park (like a minute from my house) use the monkey bars, and dash to home to finish the routine.

Is there a routine that can replace a pullup/chin up...that I can use for the moment?

I ate a little of this super-fire granola mix too though; very good stuff; all natural

I warned you guys that I was getting real hungry so I ate a few bagel chips w/ artichoke dip . . . not really too much crap, but pry the worst thing I ate today (not too bad though, right?)

I do miss chin-ups though. It's so fulfilling to do.

I have used tree branches before-do you have any good trees at your house? For a variation, throw a towel over the branch and do those, or a towel for each hand.

I got this chinup bar at a Ross or TjMaxx store for $25.00 (cant remember which one, but it was a discount store)
http://www.everlast.com/everlast-multi-function-home-gym-bar.html

No screws in the door frame, it just sets up and works via cantilever system. Its great...not perfect but great. It has no problem holding me and I weigh 190. I havent used it for weighted ones yet, I usually do those on one of my other devices (I have about 5 different things to do pullups on-rings, powerrack, ropes, etc).

If you cant do chinups/pullups for now due to lack of equipment, do some body rows (so you are still getting some back work even though it is a little different exercise).
Like this-

obviously you can use a lot of different things to do this exercise- a broomstick between 2 chairs, the edge of a table or desk (as seen) and so forth.
Do some the opposite way as well, palms facing away.

A few things to keep in mind about leg work; the body does develop proportionately. Getting bigger up top requires getting bigger in your legs. Neglecting your legs will hold your upper body development back at least at some point in the game. Also, working your legs (particularly squats) releases HGH and stimulates testosterone production, which are also necessary for growth. You won't get the same level of hormone production from upper body work. So...don't neglect those legs TOO much. ;)

YMMV. *shrug*

You doing lots of stretching. Some yoga stretches could really help your back. At any rate, one of the things that's always helped me heal faster is getting back to at least some light weight training as soon as I felt somewhat up to it. Starts strengthening and rehabbing the affected muscle group that much faster. Good luck with getting 100% again.

What you'll find is a couple of things. The first will be that the added weight of the medicine ball will make it harder to grip with your ankles and force you to work your abdominal muscles just to do that, plus raising your legs with the added weight resistance will give your abs a double-whammy. And, you'll have to keep your legs closer together to hold the medicine ball than you do the swiss ball so you wind up using form that's closer to a v-up than the movement results in when you use a swiss ball when your legs are forced further apart. Be careful on the transfer between your hand and your feet, too. One mistake and that medicine ball will land right on your...er....pickle pumper. :o

You have to place your legs out wider if you specifically want to target inner thighs on squats:

http://www.abcbodybuilding.com/exercise3/innerthighsquats.htm

For lunges you have to them more as a side lunge:
http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/GluteusMaximus/DBSideLunge.html

But even just increasing the weight on normal squats and lunges will help as well.

You have to place your legs out wider if you specifically want to target inner thighs on squats:

http://www.abcbodybuilding.com/exercise3/innerthighsquats.htm

For lunges you have to them more as a side lunge:
http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/GluteusMaximus/DBSideLunge.html

But even just increasing the weight on normal squats and lunges will help as well.

Try just pointing your toe outwards a little more than usual on a regular lunge or squat. Should give just enough of difference without stressing your knee overly much that you'll feel it in the inner thighs.

Yea it's pretty sad how insecure some dudes are. I've seen guys leave a room in the middle of a set if a pretty girl comes in. Or try to lift way too much weight.

I'm almost always willing to help people get started in the gym, but one of the few reasons I will flat out refuse to assist a newbie is if he's just trying to "pick up chicks"

So go out with her but don't drink. Tell her you're working out later. Impress her with your dedication and huge pectorals. Drinking + weights = NO! BAD SUPES! NO!

Did you try the wide stance inner thigh squats? Might be easier on your knees than the side lunges.
