Question:

I have an OCD thing that forces me to exercise a lot every day.

At the moment I do 10 minutes of cycling in the morning followed by a 45 minute run in the afternoon and depending on how tired I feel another 10-15 minutes of cycling in the evening.

Is this too much cardio?

Biggest misconception is that fat = weight gain. The only way to become overweight is to end the day with a surplus of calories. You're doing a lot of cardio so unless you're eating like 4000 calories worth of bread and apples a day, you should lose weight.

DarthDaveBanner

I know, I've been told this so many times but I suppose its down to the OCD again.

And the worldwide "everyone is getting fatter" mentality thats all over the media doesn't help things.

Amazing...are you crazy? How long was your marathon? Wouldn't you need like almost a week off from running to rest your legs 100%? I don't really run, just curious.

Well every full marathon is 26.2 miles, so that's what I did. My legs are feeling pretty good right now, I didn't end up running yesterday though because it started pouring rain on my way home. I was just planning a little run though about 2-3 miles, gonna do it today though, brought running clothes to work in case it rains again and I need to use the treadmill instead. My training plan actually says I should start running again yesterday or today, just short recovery runs though. Plus I'm planning on running a 10 mile race in 2 and 1/2 half weeks and start training for a fall marathon 2-3 weeks after that, want to keep my current level of shape up, plus it's boring going straight home sitting on the couch.

My situation: I'm a (somewhat) fat college student (did I mention poor?) who spends all of his time either working or studying (and some Hypin', here and there ;]). Now that it's summer I have some free time.. and I really need to get in shape. I have access to a bicycle and I'm gonna start biking for 2 hours a day, for about 3/4 days a week. Is that a good way to start out? I need help! X_x;!

2 hours is a lot to start off with, I'd say 30 or so max, see how you feel after that and the next day. Thing with biking, running is the trip out might seem fine, but you've gotta get back too. Build up to 2 hours, maybe add in some running as well, work on making fitness a part of your lifestyle so you keep it up when you get back to school. This summer fitness plan won't be worth anything if you stop it once you get back to school

Hey Devil, where do you get your kettle bells? And how much for the weight?

I got most of them off ebay actually.
Usually when I did that, I would pay about $1 per pound, once everything (shipping) was factored in.

Once place that has them cheap and will cut you great deals if you call and tell them what you want (multiple items) is christian's fitness factory.
www.cfffit.com

I bought several things from them and they were always top notch with service. They even called me once after I placed an order online to ask me if I cared if they shipped some items together to save me about $20 on shipping. What other company would call you to tell you how to save $$??

On a side note, I have actually sold a few of them to friends to make a few bucks and cut down on unnecessary stuff.

You really should try to keep it to $1 per pound or less, regardless.
There are some steals out there from time to time though (ebay and craigslist).

Actually after the marathon I felt like I was going to puke, took about an hour for my stomach to get right again, that's probably just because of the effort I put into it, those last 6 miles beat me up pretty damn bad. However, throughout training this winter/spring my appetite has really grown, barely ever felt truly full. I could eat half a pound of pasta and still be really hungry. Already had a good metabolism, running has supercharged it.

So, supposedly drinking a lot of water will cleanse the system and help one lose weight - however, I have known a few overweight people in the past who have walked around chugging bottles of the tasteless stuff and not seemed to have lost any weight.

I am not a water drinker (horrible, unhealthy, ridiculous, ect., I know), but it's because it seems to irritate my throat when I sing, and because I go to school for singing... well, let's just say it's a pain in the *** to feel all scratchy and constantly uncomfortable in an effort to stay hydrated.

Now that I'm taking some time off school and will be basically doing nothing until June 1st, I need to know if it is normal to gain weight before losing it if you just start drinking water after a long time not (I'm drinking four water bottles a day, I think that's roughly 8 glasses, and isn't that the recommended amount?).

I'm gonna give this 'cleansing my system' thing a try this month... but goddarnit, it better show some benefits.

BTW, I just spent 6 months taking beginner dance 4 times a week... lost nothing at all. Of course, the college student diet probably contributed to that...

Uuuhhhhh.....

Well you probably are going to want to cook the oatmeal first, or not I mean if you are going to blend it you could just use regular oats, not sure to be honest. Try experimenting from that end.

Second...natural peanut butter. Don't worry about the fat it's good for you and if you eat a whole diet moderately it will not be a big deal. You need fat in your diet.

Just drinking water and eating like **** may not mean you lose weight. For people that don't really exercise drinking tons of water will do little for you other than keeping you hydrated and keeping your skin moist and from drying out.

Honestly not sure about the whole singing/sore throat thing and water. But if you are not exercising and just drinking water don't expect to lose a lot of weight.

Say you drink 500 calories a day in soda, that's 3500 calories a week in soda alone that you can cut out by drinking water more calories if you drink other liquids that contain calories (juice, coffee, gatorade etc.).

If you cut out 500 calories a day and do nothing you will lose one pound a week. But that will eventually taper off after time.

So don't expect to lose much weight drinking just water, if any at all.

But drink at least a 1/2 gallon a day if you are not doing anything physical or sweating. 60oz.

Where to start?

Water does help you lose weight, but not nearly as much as you'd think. Drinking extremely cold liquids (preferably water) forces your body to put in a little extra work to quickly raise it up to your body's temperature. However, drinking cold water burns so few calories, you can counter a gallon of water with the calories of a handful of saltine crackers. The constant drinking of cold water does, however, help your metabolism, which is good in the long run.

So drink water. It's good for you, especially if you want to fight dehydration. And no, you cannot substitute vitamin water for water.

Basic science here, but cold makes things contract, and heat makes things expand. I find that cold water wreaks havoc on one's throat while they're singing, so no, I wouldn't recommend drinking it immediately before or during a song. While singing, if your throat gets dry, drink warm water or hot tea or something. Room temperature water works.

Drinking a lot of water at once has the ability to make you look bloated until you sweat it out, fully absorb it, or have a good piss.

If you're really serious about losing weight, put some physical activity into your day. Walk. Run. If you've got a bike, ride it. You only need to do it for about 15-30 minutes a day.

AD-I posted this a few pages back, but will re-post it due to your questions, it came from a trainer's website:

A good night of sleep is important to recharge your
body and help it to recover. Thing is, that means
your body has been without water for that same
amount of time.

Now, you also have to combine this with the fact
that the ol mercury is pushing upwards like a rocket
and you have a potentially dangerous situation -
that's right, you're probably dehydrated right now
as you're reading this.

And its even worse if you happen to sleep in air
conditioning

So, if you're dehydrated (which you probably are right
now) here are some things to keep in mind:

- 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. It is
probable that similar percentages apply to 90% of the
world population.

- In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak
that it is often mistaken for hunger.

- Even mild dehydration will slow down one's metabolism
as much as 3%.

- One glass of water shuts down midnight hunger pangs
for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University
of Washington study.

- Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

- Research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day
could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to
80% of sufferers.

- A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term
memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on
the computer screen or on a printed page.

- Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of
colon cancer by 45%. It can slash the risk of breast cancer
by 79%, and reduce the risk of developing bladder cancer by
50%.

The point here is a few drinks of water will do you good, but
you should especially have a glass of water (maybe two) as
soon as you wake up in the morning.

Imagine adding a rep or two (or more) to every exercise
in every workout as you train just from having a few
glasses of high-quality H2O.

As I've said pretty often, its always the little things that
add up to big gains -- and this is one of those little things

Now, AD, Im not 100% sure, but it sounds like you are just asking what the water will do. In other words, it doesnt sound (to me), like you are planning to commit to a weight loss/exercise/fitness lifestyle at all...just experimenting. That is fine, but I caution you not to have any real expectations of simply drinking water (which it doesnt even sound like you enjoy anyway).

Also, the singing comment struck me as strange. Every serious singer I have ever known (as you obviously are, since you are attending school for it) have always had water handy when they sang and recommended keeping it nearby during practice and performance.

I honestly don't think I have been eating enough over the last two weeks, but it's not that I'm "not" eating. And, I recently started taking new A.D.D. medication that hasn't made me feel well anyway. I think a combination of the two casued me to faint.

Well, water and a healthier diet than I have been living on lately. There was at least one week last month when I would wake up, eat a bowl of Honeycombs, go to an internet cafe and have a cookie and a Coke, then pick up a BK Stacker for dinner. And that's all I would consume the entire day. My diet during school wasn't that much better.

And I had been taking dance 4 times a week since September - with very little obvious results. Granted, I'm a beginner and a little hesitant because of my back condition (I have a few immobile vertebrae; it makes me very frustrated, and tense). Anyhow, I'm looking into better ways to get into shape than just going to the gym or doing morning/evening jogs - I'm the kind of person who needs motivation and something to focus on so I don't think about how hard I'm working. I'm investigating a class that's supposed to combine yoga, pilates and ballet - ideal for me, I think, and I hope it works out.

About the singing vs. water thing - I get that reaction a lot. Whatever lubricates the vocal cords just seems to wash away whenever I drink water, and so I'm left with nothing to protect them and soon my voice gets tired and scratchy.

Do I hit on girls at the gym? I don't even like talking to my friends at the gym. I once bumped into a former co-worker on mine while she was on the treadmill, and she ate a couple of minutes out of my workout.

do you guys ever hit on the girls at the gym? im used to a few saying something to me or just saying something light. but do you guys really do the "hi my name is and i just had to say" thing?

Because I work out at home, this isnt a problem.
However, when I was 4% bodyfat, ripped to shreds, plenty of hair on my head big pimping 21-26 year old.....well I didnt do it then either.
I was there to TRAIN, not make friends, meet girls or anything else. Just kick ass and then go home.

While training, I always tried to avoid contact with anyone and everyone-guys, girls, young, old. I hated when people would come up and ask me questions or whatever. Just let me throw some weight around....I will smile when I am watching a good comedy movie, but not at the gym.

Wow so you didnt enjoy talking and training at all? I go to the gym at school so of course theres people i know that im not going to totally ignore. I dont think you have to look like the typical jock, or slack and try to make a party off of it. You can have a balance. Some people just maybe like to keep it simple I guess, and do one or the other.

I also love smiling while I lift weights (lifting is fun,) Im not a big grunter or like to act like the weight is too much for me. "Omg weights I dont have a life outside the gym." is what I think when I hear the grunters. I always hated that stereotype and a real man can supress his grunt like the weight is too much for him.

No, I dont like talking and training. In fact, going to the gym w/ JStorm was tough sometimes, because he likes to talk. Now, if I am training with someone, I dont mind talking...ABOUT TRAINING!!!!
For example, I will say-okay, next is bench press, we will do 3 sets of 180 (or whatever). Thats it.

To me, its not social hour.

And I am 100% with you on the grunting. I hate listening to that crap as well. I dont grunt.

I love the fact that I can train at home, alone now. There is no better place in the world for me to do it. what were you training for?

I could answer this a million ways, but I guess you asked because I said "training" rather than "working out."

To me, anything you do, you should have a reason. You should always ask yourself "why am I doing this?" It will prevent a lot of heartache and wasted time in your life (this applies to all aspects-not just physical training).

So, to answer you I could say this:
I trained for a lot of things-I was doing the backyard wrestling thing, plus playing in a competitive flag football league that was pretty big time (our team went to the national championship in New Orleans and we had former D-1 players and 1 guy who played for a few NFL teams), I played in several basketball leagues throughout the year as well, I got a lot of comments on my physique (not big, but pretty dang ripped) and obviously, it doesnt hurt with girls. Add to that I like being in good health, having a long physically active life and you have more than enough reasons to "train."

Yes but who says people who go there and talk... are making it social hour. I'd hate if people considered me as a typical jock because I was just wanted to focus on hard training. But I'd also hate it, if someone saw me talking to a girl or anyone else during the workout and thought I was a chatterbox.

Also I've realize a lot of the people we think are chatterboxes, they ARE talking about training. And often times even when they are talking, it doesn't obstruct their work out. I never thought a person had to be one or the other.

The grunting rule yes, I hate that. The loudest guy in my gym, is also the buffest guy which is sad. He exerts the same max force as I do, (since like him I want to train for something professional or big like Strongest Man)... yet I dont grunt like that. It has to be bc training like that is his #1 hobby / activity. Maybe its just appreciating his sport. To me a grunt has never helped once. Also I think people who grunt for long notes like 2 - 3 secs+ are over-acting. But who knows I aint them.

Youre right, obviously there are boundaries that must be crossed for it to interfere with the workout itself and so on.

However, as I said, I am there to train and dont want ANYONE to talk to me, even about training...I hate people that come up and ask me "what muscle does that work?" "You will injure yourself lifting like that?" "where did you get that dip belt?" etc etc etc etc etc etc.

Again, I am in my proper environment training at home.

As far as the grunting, when I have the guys over to train, we have one guy who comes that is horrible about this. He doesnt grunt so much as he screams, squeals and yells. It really sounds like a dying pig. The strange thing is, as you guys know, when the guys come over the majority of what we do is bodyweight stuff. How many guys do you know that squeal while doing a pushup????

When we do circuits, he will often crawl from station to station as if he is dying or disabled as well!

I will ask JStorm to chime in on this as well, so you guys can hear it from a 2nd source.

Grunting while doing deadlifts doesn't sound right. People are probably thinking to themseleves 'wow, he might crap himself'.

I got a new max on the chest machine. 250 lbs. Did it 6 times, too. Well, 6 reps. My bench is still at 160 lbs. Am I strong for a guy who weighs only 127.4? Weak at curlbar though and dumbells. Curlbar...my max is with a 25lb on each side. Can only do that now like 3 times. But I co do up row rights 3 sets of 6 with that weight on there. Dumbells, I do 35lbs 3 set of 8.

 what does behind the back dumbells do? I do 3 sets of 8 35 and 40lbs with those.

And I work out now...about 6 days a week. Quit my job due to a few reasons. Try to enroll for LA Film School to be a director. Start date be in OCt if get accpeted there.

Grunting when exerting high amounts of force is one thing. Grunting when you're doing your first light set of benches for the day just to make yourself heard or- even worse- screaming at the top of your lungs to make sure everyone in the gym sees you lifting, is aggravating as hell.

Reason why I found it hard to breathe properly during deadlifts(still do) is b/c you have to inhale when you go down. When you're in that position, your legs are pressed up against your mid-section so it's a little difficult to take this monster of a deep breath lol. Unless you exhale AND inhale when you're in the top position. But I'm not coordinated enough for that haha.

I dont like breaking focus. Again, I am there to train, not chat. Once done, we can have a protein shake and BS all day long for all I care. I dont see what isnt understandable about that. Plus, I keep my rest periods very short typically. So any chatting extends my total time working out, screws up my plans, etc.

(an example is the pullup ladder that Storm and I do from time to time. I do 1 pullup, then he does one, I do 2, he does 2, and on and on then back down. We do this one right after the other...no rest except when the other person is working. Now, if we decide to start talking, its going to screw up that rhythm and the point of doing the ladder, which is lots of volume with minimal rest).

And yes, Storm will often talk to another guy that comes to the group while I am giving instructions about what we are doing next (remember its a group setting of 5-8 people). Its f'ing annoying. :cmad: I end up having to repeat instructions and all. He will also talk/make comments DURING the workout. I hate that crap. He knows this and I will often tell him that if he has the breath and energy to BS then he isnt working hard enough (something he actually has admitted in the past).

That first video (Rambo) is using a LOT of body english to swing those up.

You get a dumbell...and bring it up/down behind your back usually while standing straight up.

I think it's kinda this...

Overhead Triceps Extension

I grab the dumbell with both hands...it's behind my head at starting position...then I go down with both hands resting on it...and go up. I really dunno what it's for though. Maybe forearms or shoulders. When I'm done with the 40's, I feel it in forearms and parts of my arms though.

That first video (Rambo) is using a LOT of body english to swing those up.

ha i cant believe you dont see why im asking about it. you act like talking is total bsing all the time. i think maybe you take yourself too seriously and jstorm might think so too. you arent a bad guy at all though, its just the way you came off there. calling it what JStorm does as BSing, when hes just being friendly. its probably a cop thing. its not badass in the slightest to me, but its strict follows a set of rules so i think its cool from that angle.

So I have to get my jaw wired shut for 4-6 weeks and I am freaking out. I worked so hard to get into tip top running shape and I feel like it's being taken from me and I can't do a thing about it. I've been running up to 40 miles a week since April, so how much cardio will I lose if all I can do is walk for the next few weeks? And will I be able to resume running while my jaw heals?

Also, any nutrition tips? I know I'll be on a liquid diet, but what kind of stuff should I be taking in?

How is talking while I am giving instructions being friendly? If anything it is rude to me, as the person leading the group.

When you go to a class or whatever, if you talk to the person next to you while the teacher is talking, would they consider it friendly or rude?
I know that we are actually just a bunch of guys working out and its not some professionally paid class that these guys are attending by any means, and I dont want to come off like a drill sergeant (probably too late, accoding to what you said :o ).

However, I only do it (lead the group), because they ask me to. As shown, I would rather train alone, but Storm and several other friends ask me to spend my time, energy and equipment working with them. So, if I am going to make an effort to do that, I expect them to give a solid effort as well.

Also, I would point out that JStorm has admitted that he needs and wants me to bear down on him, because he does BS a lot and doesnt train very hard on his own. He has said many times that the best results he has gotten are when he trains with me. That could be for a variety of reasons, but I am pretty sure one of them is that I try to keep the talking, BS and rest to a minimum and push hard the whole workout.

EVERYTIME once the workout is done, I am not in that mode. I am laughing, talking crap, asking where everyone wants to go eat, etc.
But as I said, when I am training, I am focused and all.

You may be right, I am very structured and cop-ish when it comes to certain things. Thats just one part of my personality though. I mean, look at my avatar for God's sake..! :o:oldrazz:

EDIT: I will also point out that Storm and I recently did a few workouts-just the two of us. He was focused, driven and worked hard the whole time. He also did better than he usually does with the group. Maybe they distract him (?).

This entire post is presumptuous, especially the part about me.

You having that liberty is like me saying you maybe have a small penis and Spoons might agree.

I digress.

Devil can be an ass while working out. But I never got annoyed by it, never questioned his friendship, and never called him a cop - per his personality at the time.

He and I do train harder when it is just us. I believe he trains the same way when he is alone. When the group is larger, there are many personalities to encounter - he deals with it VERY well. He doesn't say "stop talking, you ****ers," etc. He just does the work, keeps up his pace, as well as the groups, and does more work.

I've NEVER felt like he was mad during the workout.

Further, he does "bull****." When he and I are working out, we stop and talk during breaks. But he doesn't stop working out. If I'm still talking and it's his turn, he'll do his reps and then I will do mine. Keep in mind, it's not an ongoing thing. We work, talk some, work more and harder.

He's not an ass. And assuming that one is an ass, over mere text, is - again - presumptuous.

I'd ask your doctor what type of exercise you can do. You may lose some endurance, but as long as work hard again when you're able to exercise again, you can gain it all back. I damaged my achilles last summer and was in a non-weight baring cast for 6 weeks, when I got it off all the muscle in that leg was gone, but with a lot of hard work got back in shape, ran a 5k race about 2 months after the cast came off and an 8k a few weeks after that.

Well the ADS has whey and casein proteins. All that means is it has a combination of fast digesting and slow digesting proteins. I dont know if him being in the medical field would qualify him to know about the differences in whey, casein, etc or not. Im not saying he doesnt know anything, but I think it would really depend on what you do in the medical field. I doubt a brain surgeon could recommend a proper protein for anyone based on their diet.

Also, remember not to go so long that you get your body to a catabolic state. If you do this, you will kill the results that you are working so hard for.

Seems accurate. The machine stats read 1, 000 calories when I stopped and I'd been running for a little over 60 minutes at a speed of 5.5 an hour. I'm already fairly thin as it is and don't need to worry about high calories (plus my high metabolism makes it even harder for me to gain weight), but it's always good to burn all of that away.

Just keep in mind, then, that you should even be more concerned about going into a catabolic state.
Since you say you are fairly thin, if your body begins to retain fat because of this, you may appear to get that "skinny-fat" look. And, again, that will make all these hours of sweating on the treadmill worthless and anti-productive. Just trying to help, you can take it or leave it. I just hate to see people waste their time.

Also, this may give you a more accurate reading on how many calories you burned.

There are a ton of articles out there about the advantages of interval training, particularly high intensity interval training (HIIT) ove traditional cardio (what you are currently doing). I will post links to a few, but most of them say the same thing anyways.

The key to HIIT is to give an all out effort during the work period. If you are running, you need to run as if you are being chased by 10 guys with weapons who want to kill you. It isnt an 80% effort or a 90% effort, it is a yourlife depends on it 100% effort. Because of this true HIIT is not possible on a treadmill. It is best done on a bike, running on the road or an open field or track or a rowing machine.

You can try out different interval periods, but the first few times you only need to do it for a total of 10-15 minutes. You should be completely wasted after that short amount of time.

One example:
warm up w/ a 5 minute jog or 5 minute easy pace on the bike.

Then go all out, balls to the wall for 30 seconds.
Immediately upon finishing the 30 seconds, drop it down to an easy jog (or even walking pace) for 60 seconds.
Do this 8 times and you are done. All said and done thats a 5 minute warm up and 12 minutes of work for a total of 17 minutes. MUCH more time efficient and actually MUCH more effective than the 60-90 minutes of boring (imo) cardio that you are used to.

Again, the formula I listed is not an exact science. You want to start with 20 seconds of work and 1 minute of active rest, perfectly fine.

Remember, the key is in the effort that you push yourself during the short work periods. Regular intervals are good too, just dont confuse them with HIIT. You could try a few of those to experiment before jumping into HIIT.

A regular type interval would be an easy jog to start and then 30 seconds of hard effort (80%), then back down to a jog/walk pace. The difference is you can keep repeating this much longer than you can the HIIT intervals.

I went to the gym after work today. Got into an argument with this girl that likes me and she got jealous/angry when some girl came to my job asking if I was there.

Needless to say I was pretty pissed off and irritated for the rest of my shift.

Inventory came in which requires some heavy lifting, however, it didn't do the trick and I was still feeling irritated. I came home, changed into my workout clothes, and went to the gym preparing to lift some weights, work on my abs, legs, and then decided to finish it off with 20 minutes on the treadmill.

I feel so much better and it wasn't the full workout that I normally do. It was mainly some upper body, biceps, triceps, abs, and thighs before doing cardio.

Oh for tricep pulldowns I'm at 140lbs with 3 sets to 20 reps.

Woooooow, that's all kinds of impressive. I think that may be the max amount of weight I've ever seen at a pushdown station; and I've never seen anybody attempt it, let alone 3x20.

Keep in mind that different stations equal different weight, different smoothness of cables, etc. There are a LOT of variables that make some cable type machines "easier" than others. Not taking anything away from last sunrise, but its a fact.

I can do 200 on some for a good many reps and then struggle with 120 on others. The lat pull I have at home is a little bit cheap and because of that, not very smooth. I have about 90 lbs on there now and it is a struggle to get a full set of 10. It feels like at least 160.

Any thoughts on working out while sick?

I've been sick as a dog the past few days with runny nose, cough, and what feels like a fever. So I've basically just felt like crap. I hit the gym on Sunday even though I was sick, and I'm about to go again today, but I was wondering if it's even worth it.

Should I just wait til I get better or work through it?

I'm nowhere near an expert, but if you're working out amongst the general public, stay home. Nobody needs you spreading your illness around by sneezing on the equipment. Also, I'm pretty sure most doctors recommend rest to get over being sick.

I would rest if I were you. You probably wouldn't be able to do your best at the gym if you're sick anyway.

Finally!!!!

I found a decent deal on one thru Craigslist ($80). I always said I didnt want to pay more than $100, new or used. So, after much waiting (about 2.5 years), I got one on my terms.

Cant wait to do some deadlifts, shrugs and even overheadpresses with it!!!

Very nice-lots of stuff that I like there-kettlebells, slosh pipe, plyo box jumps, and stuff I would like to have (rock climbing wall).

I am not planning to open a gym, but have had plans to start a fitness website. Not for money, but just because I enjoy it.
It would have some tips and videos (like the burpee video that I made). So, I like seeing this.

By the way, I added homemade dip bars to my outside gym area. :cwink:

Hey everyone,

I have a question. Would any of you be interested in joining my Fitness Page which is a MySpace page? It's still under construction and it's going to take me awhile before I add the necessary pictures, information, diet tips, and etc before I deem it ready to run.

I know we all have a lot in common in terms of working out, wanting to get in shape or stay in shape. If it's possible just respond to this message in this thread or send me a message on that page at www.myspace.com/fitnessnation.

Yes, it's a corny name but it was all I had at the top of my head. Whenever I post blogs about dieting, working out, or whatever if you are on my friends list you can provide information in my blog and comments as well. It's going to take a while and it's nothing something you have to do today, tomorrow, or the next day. Thanks in advance though.

My legs are killing me also. I did a standard Squat/Deadlift routine though.

I went on a walk, then rode a bike to the Walmart ( not long..on back roads...15-20 to and back?) where I live. I think the rec is closed tomorrow. That be 3 days off from working out if so. Guess I do pushups/dips tomorrow if um, it is closed.

I have a new max on upright rows. 25 and 2.5lb weights on each side on the curl bar.

This puts my maxes at...

Bench: 160lbs.
Chest Machine: 250lbs.
Dumbells: 40lbs.
Behind back dumbells (tricep dips): 40lbs.
Curlbar: 25lbs on each side.
Up Right Rows: 25+2.5 on each side.

For the legs....um...I think I got 390lbs on the leg press once a while ago. But I am taking time on that and ahven't been working out past 290 on it.

I need to stop being lazy and get in a back and forearm routine.

My job just switched me to a bunch of overnight shifts this week. I'm used to working out after work (which just got bumped from the usual 1 or 2pm to 5:30am), so my plan is to hit the gym at around 7am, just after I get off of work and have time to eat/digest. If this works, I can go home and hit the sack before noon, and wake up tomorrow night for work again fresh as a daisy. If it doesn't, I'll either fall asleep on a stack of dumbbells or skip the gym altogether tomorrow morning as I fall asleep in my car. It depends entirely on how awake I am when I get off work tomorrow.

In the meantime, I'm gonna go take a nap.

My legs day usually are just thigh machine and um, leg press. I probably start doing squats. I just feel weird doing it by myself and without a belt on. But the squat machine has a saftey thing on it. You just um...I dunno. You can rack it almost anyway cause of something on the bar. You can also do bench press on the machine, too. And I play basketball for like 30 mins or so on leg days. I made 4 3 pointers in a row, then missed 7 in a row before hitting another one. I can even make some tough off blance 3's from the baseline or some out of bound 3's or deep NBA range 3's, too. :o but I ain't good at my inside game that much.

Thigh machine?
Are you referring to leg extension?
And the machine that you can do squats and bench press on that you can turn the bar to rack it is called a Smith Machine.

I have done back and legs on the same day before. If thats what you want to do, try this rotation:
Do a big leg move (squats, leg press, hack squat), then a smaller leg move (leg extension, leg curls, GHR, or any calf exercise), then a back move (pullups, one arm rows, t-bar rows, or...of course...PULLUPS!). Keep rotating that setup for a while.

Good deal on the hoops.
What you said reminded me of a funny story of when I was playing in a Y league and there was a team made up of some ex- Div 1 players and even some guys who played pro overseas. Of course, they were the best in the league.
Well, at the time, my team had 3-4 div 2 college players on it, and so we were pretty decent.

Well, when we played this team they were pretty much killing us, so I decided to try and cut the lead some by just shooting 3s. I hit 3-4 in a row and one guy from the other team, who played pro overseas said "Hey man, youve got a nice touch."

I told him to F&*^% Off immediately. He gave me a weird look and I said "Dude, you have scored about 50 points on us (he really had) and youre telling me nice touch after a couple of 3s? Give me a break."
He looked at me for a minute...then just laughed and laughed. I guess he got my point.
