The good part about coming off of it is that I can take NO2/stimulant supplements again(already ordered some)
Bad part is now I gotta do cardio again.

Hope everyone is working hard. I know I am....on my diet! Trying to actualy keep it to one cheat meal a week or less for once. Thats always been the toughest thing for me. I love my carbs and sweets. Only taking in 1 serving of carbs per day right now.
About to mix in some more kickboxing type work to prep me for joining the MMA gym at the end of the year.
Other than that, I made a list of the equipment I have (at least all that I could remember). Still a few pieces that I want to add. Of course, I just sold my waterrower 2 weeks ago, so that would have been on the list. I also just ordered this so that I can spar with Storm!

Yeah man, Ive been wanting to go for a few years now. I was in a different job working shifts and determined that I wouldnt be able to go often at all, thus wasting my money.
But now, my schedule is much better and because my wife recently got a better job, money is better too.
I think I posted it before, but here is the one I will be joining.

They offer all kinds of classes and you can go to as many as you want, all for one fee. So, the more you can go, the better value for your money.
Their guys always win at competitions too-beating guys from a bunch of other states and all.

I'm still on Week -2 of the 20 Pullup Challenge. It's weird, cutting my back and bicep workouts out of my weekly routine. On the plus side, so far, I can hold myself at the top of my negatives for a few seconds.
Also, after last week's mishap with me using the assisted dip machine and feeling unchallenged, I tried regular dips yesterday. I did 3. Then I just did a few sets of that.

Looking to compete? I always find it odd that people trying to learn self defense go to MMA gyms. I know it's trendy now but it's a bit odd. MMA is a sport, sure you learn to fight, but fighting and self defence are different. Styles tailored to facing 1 opponent face to face in a perfect setting (great lighting, soft fighting surface, breaks in the fight, saftey equipment) don't really work in most cases on the street. Heck, you know how many great boxers I've seen break their hands punching glovless, because their punching power far outstretched their bone conditioning (because of the big soft gloves).
It's like learning juijitsu for street self defense, you can take a guy down but if he's got a partner you'll be busy with the first one who you cannot let go while the other one pummels the back of your head.
I'm not saying karate is perfect, but I've been working at it years now and I've never had a conflict go further than a couple seconds and I've faced up to 3 individuals at once. Not to discourage anyone, training is better than not training but you have to think about the purpose you are training for, fighting in the ring is different than fighting in the real world. After all, MMA classes don't teach knife defense, gun defense, multiple attackers, body hardening.

Actually, the school I will be attending does address the issues you mentioned, which is one of the great things I mentioned about it.
They offer a "street fighting" class which is focused on multiple attackers, attackers with various weapons, etc.

Cool, I get that man. It's just that these guys who do MMA walk around with this false sense of invulnerability when they are learning sport fighting (ie, ingraining rules into fighting). I once got into a tussle with a guy who does MMA at a bar (Dallas Cowboys fan) and he was down in seconds. Teaching a person to fight clean is teaching them to prolong an engagement. Punch me in the face as many times as you wish, I've got a knowledge of every pressure point on the body and how to manipulate them, I just have to hit once.
Also, these guys think that Muay Thai or Boxing is superior to karate or some other traditional martial art is just fooling them self. With MT or Boxing you can learn the entire curriculum (all the punches, kicks, elbows and knees) relatively quickly because there's not much to it. But all those same moves plus hundreds more are covered in TMA. Quicker to learn yes, a person with 1 year of MT will most likely beat a person with 1 year of karate, but beyond that it's not going to happen.

Yeah, I'm not one to parade around thinking I can't be beaten up if I learned BJJ or any other MMA fighting style. It is a secret desire of mine to get into a huge bar brawl though haha. Just pool sticks, bottles over the head, and punches though. Nobody has time to use Muay Thai in a bar fight :o

Had a decent day at the rec for chest/triceps.
Haven't been doing bench for a while, but I did it and it felt good. Got 155lbs and did 8 reps. :yay:
Did the following.
1 set 5 135
2 set 5 140
3 set 3 150
1 set 5 155
1 set 8 155
Tricep pull downs
1 set 12 at 90lbs
3 set 20 at 100lbs
^ this is too easy, will go up on it on Monday.
Tripcep reverse dips (ya know with dumbells)
3 set 10 at 40lbs
1 set 4 at 45 (Triceps were tired)
Shot some hoops, and for the most part my shots were ugly cause triceps were already tired. Air ball mania it was. From 3's to close range 2 pointer shots. Then I got on fire and started draining 3's. I wasn't keeping count, but I would guess...at least 5/10 went in doing the hot stretch.
Oh, and I did other ****, too.

Just as I was afraid, the Twenty Pullup Challenge's Week -2 was a bust. I somehow doubted I'd go from 0 pullups on Monday to 1 pullup on Friday after 4 sets of negatives, and lo and behold, I still can't do any pullups. I went from 5 sets of 3 second negative pullups to 4 sets of 3 second negatives and a failed pullup attempt.
So now I have to decide to either repeat Week -2, or just say "screw it" and go back to my regular back routine.

Since I pretty much live in gym clothes, I shop around for good looking ones. I'm a pretty big Nike whore, but I'll wear cheaper stuff like Champs, Foot Locker, and Foot Action brand stuff. Be careful with those though, you can't dry them or else it's shrink time :(
I've recently gotten into Under Armour. Not the skin tight stuff that only athletes should wear, but they make some nice clothes.

Hell yeah dude, I would wear them everywhere except that my uniform is white and as a rule you have to keep them pristinly clean or it's trouble with the sensei. But yeah, it's made of canvas, cut really wide and has a traditional pull string waist ... they do sell with elastic in the waist but that's not traditional and your pants could get pulled off in a take down.

Damn, Vernon Forrest is dead. For those who dont know, he was a world champion boxer, from right here in Augusta. I hope they catch the thugs who did it (it was a carjacking that went bad). RIP Champ.
We have always had good fighters from this area. Ray Mercer lived here a little while, undefeated Ray Whitfield is from here, Paul the Punisher Williams is from 20 minutes down the road and of course UFC star Forrest Griffin spent much of his teen life here.
Also, Divante Jones is a teen boxer who may compete in the next Olympics, I worked with his dad for two years.
Anyways, I digress...
Whats the deal with boxers getting killed lately?

After failing the Twenty Pullup Challenge's Week -2, I decided to hit up Google and do some research on negative pullups. Turns out the 20PUC is the only source I've seen that says you can go from 0 to 1 pullup in 2 days by doing a handful of negatives. So now I don't feel so bad. I'm also noticing that about 90% of all articles I've read about increasing your pullup strength assume that you can already do about 3 of them before, which is all kinds of messed up. There's almost no information out there for those of us starting at 0 that wasn't written by someone who started at 1-3 and just guessed.
So I'm still doing negatives every other day, but now I don't have unrealistic expectations.

Hang in there bro.

Spoons, you were right, BSN's Syntha 6 tastes freaking great. So I decided to compare the labels to the ON chocolate to see what gives. Pretty easily I saw the difference. Syntha 6 has about 3 times the fat and carbs.
Not a large amount or deal breaker by any means, but Im pretty sure thats where that awesome taste is coming from.
On a side note, bodybuilding.com has the best prices and FASTEST shipping I have ever seen.
I ordered on a Saturday night and got the stuff on Tuesday. Thats 2 business days...very good.
I also picked up some ab slings by Progryp...they are very very sturdy and comfortable. Pics and a review to come.

I was recently looking into bodyweight exercises myself. What I want to know is can bodyweight help burn fat and build muscle like weightlifting (not exactly, but somewhat)?
Here's the thing, 10 months out of the year I am away at school. The most convenient gym near me is located in the studio space of my college's premium dorm above occupied rooms, so suffice it to say that I can't get good use out of it without someone complaining. When I am at home during the summer, I work out by myself the duration but all the work is lost an I end up feeling like a weakliing when I have to start over. Hell, I struggle with lifting 100+ lbs in fear of giving out without anyone there to help. So since school is about to start again, does doing bodyweight workout harbor great benefits?

Yeah man, body weight excersizes are all I do. They are great for building muscle, I'm not sure about fat loss because I've never been fat. Also, look into isometrics, pitting muscle against muscle.

Obviously you can get stronger/build muscle and all with bodyweight exercises.
If you want to use them to burn fat, string them together in a circuit style fashion with little or no rest in between.(just dont forget the diet aspect).
You get out of it what you put into it.
Pushups, pullups, squats, lunges, burpees, body rows, situps/crunches...there are a ton of versions of all of these as well..plenty to keep you challenged and motivated.

Im the same way. If I have been very disciplined with the diet, when I decide to do a cheat meal, I will often get sick from it. Not sure if its the greasiness, the excess sugar or what.
Being in the south, fried chicken and sweet tea top my list for cheat meals (had it today actually) and of course, I have a very strong sweet tooth as well.

Just noticed this thread so I thought I would post what I've been doing to stay in better shape than before. I partied alot in college and out of college and ate all the most unhealthy food I can think of. I decided I wanted to make some changes (also bc the doctor said bc of my health issues) I wanted to get as fit as I was when I did when I was around 18. So after a couple months I cut out the fried foods and pizza and left the soda behind. I quit smoking and the job that I had at the time that made me stressed. Cut back on partying to. Anyway I go running about 4 to 5 times a week and as of weighing in on Friday I am now at 154 and I have lost the 20 extra pounds I've carried the past year and a half.

But I'm still skinny, weighing round 133 still. At 5'5, that's a okay weight isn't it?
I worked my bench back up to 160 again. Up Right Rows is at 30 pds on each side (25+5) and Squats...I failed at 180 by August 1st, only got to 170.
I'm slowly adding cardio back to my routine every day. Outside of some hoops, trying to get some eslipse time on it.

Have you tried using a BMI calculator it could help you it a general idea. You key in your height and weight and it will give you the number and where you are on the scale. It can be thrown off a little bit depending on how much muscle you have. I just did your calculations and your at 22.1 which is considered normal weight.

Don't make excuses for yourself. Set a goal and work towards it with your diet.
It's hard to just hear a weight and height and say whether it's "ok" or not, because you may have a high body fat percentage and still be thin, or super muscular and appear to be morbidly obese based off of height and weight alone lol. I wouldn't worry about your weight as much as what your fitness goals are.

Thats a very vague question to which there is no good answer.
If your goal is to lose weight, your diet is more important than the exercise even. That doesnt mean you only eat lettuce and drink water, I simply mean a proper diet, not starvation.
However, if that (weight loss) is your goal, I would recommend some resistance training (weights) along with the cardio. Do some research and dont blindly go into anything. Feel free to ask specific questions here as well.

You can't spot train man, you have to loose weight everywhere to have losses in your stomach. Don't believe the adds on TV that sell you machines that tighten the but, thighs or stomach. You can't have a 6 pack and still have fat everywhere else is what I mean.
Best way to loose a gut is to get into a program that works your entire body, lift weights, figure out a cardio routine and tailor a diet to what you want to achieve (which also ties into setting a goal).

Well, it has been a while since I posted an exercise of the day, so I figured I would do at least one for the weekend.
Today, I wanted to focus on more of a style of training rather than one move.
Plyometrics are exercises designed to help you develop power and speed and are usually associated with some sort of jumping move. Obviously the benefits of these exercises translate very well to just about any sport.
There are soooo many plyo exercises and drills, I will post a few videos here that cover a few, but feel free to google/youtube as many variations as you want to spice up your training. Plyometrics also burn a ton of calories and are a nice way to help get rid of those last few pounds of fat. And of course there are upper body plyometric exercises, but I wont bother with them today.
Next week I will definitely have my 2nd favorite back exercise featured.
I totally obliterated my arms and back today. Curled 135 on my straight bar. It was amazing.

I've been taking longer routes to the subway/train stations when downtown in addition to getting up at 6 and running a couple miles before work, and the three pairs of jeans I usually wear are now too big for me. :o I put some on the other night to go outside without a belt and the **** literally fell to my ankles. I offer nothing but encouragement and praise. You'll be benching 300lbs in no time buddy
I did my warm ups on bench.
1 set 5 for 140 and 145. 3 set 3 150
Workout was 3 sets 5-8 reps of 155. Ended up at actually doing 3 sets of 6 or 7 reps at 155. Then did 2 sets of 4 reps at 160. :o I never have a spotter, so I take baby steps. But my neck was sore so my gym time got cut short.
3 sets of 10 on Dips.
Incline Press
1 set 12 at 230
2 set 8 at 240
Shot some ball before I lifted. The left.
My neck is still sore. My pillow sucks ass. And I get a fail at cracking it. I do have dips I need to do at home later on.

Ok, so for the past week (I've done it twice so far) I've walked halfway home from work. My goal is to be able to walk all the way.
Now, I start the walk on 54th street and end it on 125th. I live in the bronx. Apart of me feels it's useless, and it probably is, but I feel great once I finish. However, the next day after the first time my left foot was killing me and it felt like I pulled something in my right leg. All is good now.
Either way, I'm doing it because one, I figure it'd be good for my body once I stop fudging up with food, and two, I've always said that the prices of trains would go up to the point where people would rather walk than pay. I want to prove it now.
So, is it worth it? Should I wear weights while I do it. Would any of that matter. And why would they close this thread? Too high post count?

Did you stretch before your walk? If you didn't, that might explain why your leg hurt so much.
In my extremely unprofessional opinion, I wouldn't recommend wearing weights for your walk until you're more used to it.

No stretching. It was right after work at 12am, dress pants, dress socks, dress shoes, and a really bad idea. I felt fine when I got to 125th to take the train the rest of the way, but once I got off my foot was sore, once I got home my foot hurt, and once I woke up, both feet hurt and the leg was in pain. Lasted a day or 2.
On wednesday when I did it again, I brung some extra pants, regular socks, and my most comfortable sneakers. It was great. I made great time and the only reason I didn't go pass 125th was because when I changed at work I was in a rush to get the hell out and ripped my sock. As I was walking my sneaker was rubbing my foot. Was not having that, but I felt great after and the next day.
And when I do it again later I will have extra insoles, just in case.

So, about circuit training. By using bodyweight exercises would I have to be in constant motion or can I rest like weight training. Also, would it help improve muscle strength so when I return to weights later that I am able to adequately lift?

Usually with circuit training you want to string together a few exercises BEFORE resting. You can tailor this to your needs obviously, but typically a bodyweight circuit could go something like this:
30 seconds pushups
30 seconds squats
30 seconds situps
30 seconds lunges
rest (30 sec-1 min)
then repeat or start a different circuit.
Thats how it typically breaks down. Obviously you dont have to do it for time (or adjust the time frames as you desire), but what I listed is a standard format.
As far as strength gains, it wont translate very well to your typical lifts like bench press, squat, deadlift, etc. It shouldnt hurt too much, but the fact is, your numbers will probably go down a bit.
But it should help with dropping some fat and giving you a bit of a conditioning workout at the same time (of course the diet is very important with the former).
The benefits of this (bodyweight circuits) are that they require little/no equipment and can be done just about anywhere and dont take long to complete. Just remember, the benefits really come when you push the pace and yourself.

Yeah, that is what I ultimately want but without losing my size. I've ALWAYS been a big guy, but I have gotten alot healthier over the years. I never have been a walking mass of blubber like Big Daddy V or anything, but an endo/mesomorph(leaning slightly on endo). Since I started college 2 years ago, I went from 310 to 250lbs and have remained constant. I still need to shed a lil fat here and there, but I still want to be big. So that's my biggest concern, how to shed the fat and still keep my size and strength.

There's nothing wrong with jean shorts. It's the fact that you choose to wear them to exercise in
For one, it's just not very smart. Denim is heavy/thick, and doesn't allow you to have a full range of motion. It can be downright dangerous if you wear long/restrictive jean shorts and for some reason stumble due to them. The fabric also doesn't breath.
I don't know how to say this without sounding mean, but it also screams "redneck" :csad: Or, in general, "I don't really care about working out, I just wanna look cool at the gym."
I know the gym shouldn't be about appearances, but anytime I see anyone exercising in jeans, I just can't take them seriously, because anyone wanting to get a real workout would wear appropriate clothing.
Look at is this way- would you wear jean shorts to swim in? I would hope not, because swimming requires the appropriate fabric for movement and comfort.

Not concerned with the "redneck" aspect (dont disagree with it though), but yeah, it seems you arent very serious about the workout if you dont come prepared in every way.

Denim just doesn't sound comfortable to work out in. Hell, I don't even like wearing denim on a hot day.

Plus...denim, I dunno....STINKS when you sweat in them! The fabric simply does not breathe well. Any guy wearing damp, sweat-dripping jeans will NOT be standing over me trying to spot me. I have no tolerance for inhaling the methane gases of other humans, not to mention having my face under genuine sweaty-butt-funk. Please. :whatever:

Hahaha, I was trying to be delicate by just saying that the fabric doesn't breathe. LOL

Oh hell no, bump that. LOL Our dear friend needs to know. Sweaty-Butt-Funk is no delicate matter...and apparently the other gymrats in his gym are suffering. We must help them all. :csad:

All I am gonna say...I've worked wearing jean shorts from 20 some degrees in the snow up to 100+ degrees. Worked then, works when I work out. To be fair though, I had no choice (company policy) in wearing them in the extreme heat. In the cold, I just didn't care.

Yes, you have told us that before. That does not make them adequate for exercising though. In fact, if you were sweating your butt off in them while working in the summer, you should know even more that they are definitely not a top choice for working out.
I have worked in 100 degree heat and 20 degree weather wearing pants, long sleeve shirt, ballistic vest and black boots. It dang sure doesnt mean I am going to wear that crap to the mall, to exercise or to a movie in any weather. In fact, because of the discomfort, I assure you that I wont. Get my point?

:o I don't like sweat pants or PE shorts. Sorry, so sorry, me and other people stink up the local rec center.

I dont like sweatpants or "PE" shorts either (if you mean the classic cotton shorts with the elastic waist that they give you in school for PE). In fact, I hate them both. I had to wear them in the academy and hated it.
If you are a basketball player on ANY level, surely you have at least seen the mesh style shorts that most/all basketball teams wear for practice.
Those are appropriate for exercising-they give you room to move, they are comfortable and light, they breathe and dont hold the sweat there to weigh you down and stink.
Because these are so common, they are also cheap. So its a win-win.
Just sayin.

You obviously must not be doing much work if you're comfortable doing so in denim.

No, it depends on my mood. Sometimes when I lift, I feel it, and continue to lift. Or I get pissed and lift or I get depressed or bored and leave.

Which...is utterly disgusting.
John Cena wears baggy denim shorts because his ass is too big for him to wear spandex like the other wrestlers. Far too much jelly and the WWE is not ready. :whatever:
What's your excuse? LOLZ
Cena does have a lot of ass Jelly. And I am soooo okay with that.

Anyway, What are the best shoes to walk in? I was using, if I'm correct, basketball shoes. I only say it like that because I buy shoes not by the type, but how black they are. And Shorts. huh? I would change out of my work clothing and throw on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. I'm guessing that's a no.
