Please elaborate..

I think its exactly the opposite of ignorant and racist... they are literally switching lives.

It's ignorant, because it's implying that life all of a sudden gets different depending on the color of your skin. Disregarding all predjudices each skin tone attracts, life for a white family isn't any different than that of a black family of equal income, education, culture, etc. Skin color doesn't carry that much weight in reality.

It's also racist due to the use of make-up to "transform" the people into the other race, which is reminiscent of "black face" make-up used by white actors in the past to ridicule blacks.

No one really knows the premise as of yet, except what the commercials show us. Basically its a white family being transformed into a black family, and vice versa.

what race are you? where do you live? where have you lived for most of your life? how old are you?

I'm "white" and I'm a New Yorker born and raised, but that's besides the point. If you read carefully, I specifically mentioned that I'm "Disregarding all predjudices each skin tone attracts", because that's stupidity in it's most earnest form, and I don't want to get into that.

Of course, race (unfortunately) is an ever present social factor, but the point I'm making is this: Life is not/should not be different just based on one's skin color (assuming all other factors are equal).

But judging by the inherent stupidity of most reality shows, this one seems racist to me. And it will 'til I see otherwise.

I know that, and history proves that there are no differences between individuals of different skin tones except for the skin pigmentation itself and the differences humanity imposes on them.

Of course it shouldnt. The point of the show is to find out wether or not its true. Hopefully it will open peoples eyes about a thing or two.

What?? Really? In an ideal world that may be true. But "in reality" this is not how things are everywhere. There is still alot of prejudice out there and, believe it or not, some people still DO react differently depending on skin color. It's sad, but it's true.

It's also racist due to the use of make-up to "transform" the people into the other race, which is reminiscent of "black face" make-up used by white actors in the past to ridicule blacks.

 It's a tool in a social experiment....not some guy acting like a slave or doing a clumsy dance. As long as it's done tastefully this could be a big eye opener to alot of people. So I assume that the movies: White Chicks, Soul Man, Big Mommas House, etc. are all racist/ignorant in some way?

I thought it was pretty good. Interesting to see the different motivations. The fathers were really interesting in their motivations. The daughter is really embracing the experiment, trying to get the most out of it. The son doesn't really seem to want to be there and is just trying to "pass". It's what I expected in a good way, fairly honest and somewhat eyeopening for the partcipants, I was really surprised that they didn't censor $#!t.

horrible show. They look stupid in their make up. And if anyone falls for it they're very stupid.

They can get over the race thing now. It's different for everybody. It's nothing new. Get over it.

I saw a part where the white woman says:"Well what if there was a room with equal parts white and black and, what if the whites left wouldn't the blacks wanna' start Jiving?"

That was so phony and so stupid. Noone would say that, even though that woman seemed to be some sheltered white broad who doesn't know anything, of course they'd pick someone like her to make the whites seem stupid.

But it was still phony and scripted, I've seen crap said like that in comedies.

It reminds me of when Eddie Murphy dressed white on SNL, he looked horrible and it was just a joke, just like this show. Black people are black yeah, everyone gets it. Get over it and quit throwing it in peoples faces. :down :down

Dude... I don't care what you guys say, the white girl LOOKS BLACK when she hits the streets, I mean... I defy anyone to be able to tell that she's a white girl, even when she's there doing the white girl dances, she looks so much like a black girl doing it, you'd never guess...

Also, the black dad looks very VERY white and I would buy him on the street any day as well... part of it is the mustache to cover his lip, the other part is he knows the typical corporate america "White" mannerisms and he uses them all the time.. it's just great TV. It is a lot like what comedies have done, but it actually has a POINT. When that guy at the bar started talking about how this was the "last safe white neighborhood" the black dad's heart was really broken... it was rough.

The others, I'm not really convinced... the black son looks pretty on point, but he is resigned to "be himself" and "act black" 50-cent style and, well... somehow that almost makes for good TV...

For those who are 'tired' of 'the race thing' and 'we get it' I say, "so am I," but since it's a consistent part of my life anyway, I find shows on racism, especially social experiments absolutely fascinating, especially from Rappers-turned-CEOs like Ice Cube.

No one ever says "we get it" to the Real World... why Black. White. ?

And it only helps that she's got a rather plentiful backside on her own. But yeah, passing her on the street, I would have been fooled. Even to look at her for long periods of time, I didn't even think she looked "off". If anything, if someone told me I had to guess who was the white out of everyone from the poetry class, I'd probably have picked the heavy black girl in the denim outfit. I'd have sooner assumed she was the one pretending to be black.

It was a bit jacked up how Renee set up Carmen, agreeing with her about the dashikis, then agreeing with her husband about them being a bad idea. I'm like, if you're offended, or if you think the woman's going about something the wrong way, tell her about it from jump. Don't set her up to be ridiculed. Carmen asked for her opinion, and Renee either lied to her, or punked out when Brian took offense and decided to stand by her husband.

I'm interested in this show. I haven't watched it yet, but I want to. The concept has potential to be really good, a Black Like Me for the MTV generation. However, delivering it in the form of a reality tv show has me worried that it won't actually tackle the issues in an honest manner. Sandman, the show isn't handled like a normal primetime network reality show, it's doesn't have the sensationalism most reality TV has. The participants are really in this to learn and see what's it's like to live in another person's skin and this week actually started to learn the differences between black and white culture. I think it's the most honest look you'll ever get at this subject on TV. The first two episode were kinda bumpy only because the parents seem really stuck in their perceptions, but those perceptions are starting to go away now. It's a lot like the show 30 Days that was on F/X last summer.
