THANX.
OH I GOT IT, it's like situation signal, like during different parts of the game they will have different sepreate things like, disaster, enemy, having to save people.
And that guy in the plate looks like thug of some sort, so they use that for the enemy symbol.
Anybody follow along?

This should clear some of our reservations up about the resolution in regards to the character of Superman:
http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/10407/Superman-Returns-Visual-Target-Image/
EA released today a new image of Superman Returns: The Videogame. This time it's a "visual target" image, which mean it is not yet an in-game screenshot but should give us a good idea of what the final game will look like on Xbox 360.
Inspired by the upcoming Warner Bros. Pictures feature film and more than 60 years of DC Comics’ lore, Superman Returns: The Videogame will create the ultimate open-world super hero experience. In the game you explore and protect the truly living city of Metropolis — one that is not only expansive (with 80 sq miles and over 9,000 buildings), but also changes dynamically with you as you affect gameplay. Citizens will run away in terror from newly-erupting danger and also exit their cars to cheer and snap photos as you fly overhead to save them.

Its interesting to see that you prejudge something that hasnt even been finished yet. You also seem to think everything we have seen so far is a finished product. Besides...gameplay makes a real videogame..not the stunning graphics. Spiderman was made by activision not EA, ig difference. Most EA titles suck. Their superhero games are just terrible. Hey most Ps2 prerenderd shots look 3x better than that.
That because they are developed properly by japanese developers to use in games. This is just taking a bunch of data from unfinished code and sticking it into a program to 'pose' the shot.

Come on man you know EA, and what prerenders are, that is your target visual image you are trying to hit, which EA never does. Look at madden 06 for the 360. didn't even get close to it. Well here's a really great article about the game...
http://www.bluetights.net/news.php?id=242
In our continuing behind the scenes coverage of the development of Superman Returns: The Video Game, we start this time with more great conceptual art for the city of Metropolis. The model to the right is a large plaster mockup of the gameplay area created by the game's Art Director. The model represents an area slightly larger than the area which you can play in as Superman. The large island towards the middle of the model is Metropolis itself, surrounded on all sides by water.
http://www.bluetights.net/gallery/albums/videogame/Metropolis/model_002.jpg
This second model is a more detailed version of the city itself, designed to give game programmers an idea of the sheer density of the city they're dealing with. The model also illustrates how the city was designed to be experienced vertically. Instead of everything existing on a single plane, the island is made up of multiple tiers, allowing for varied and interesting flight experiences as you soar around the city you've sworn to protect. Below you can view three details of the Metropolis model, constructed of plaster and balsa wood.
http://www.bluetights.net/gallery/albums/videogame/Metropolis/model_001.jpg
...Being the first open world game to allow the player to move vertically and horizontally, Metropolis is specifically designed for fun at all levels. Objects at all levels are interactive. You can pick up cars to hurl at your enemies, or fly to the top of the GNN building and commandeer one of their broadcasting satellite dishes for the greater good of distributing beat-downs to villains in need.
Metropolis is more than just your sanbox in this game, though. It's your constant mission. [I]As Superman, you're sworn to protect the people of this great city. Previous games have always given Superman a life meter, and we all know that simply won't do for Superman. Staying true to the ways of the comics, in Superman Returns: The Video Game, you're not fighting for your own life, but for those in the city around you. As you battle your opponents, a "City Health" meter on your screen monitors how much damage they are inflicting on their surroundings.
With Metropolis fate always at stake, you're forced to make the REAL decisions of a Superman. No more can you afford to play it safe to recharge your health and fight another day. You will be faced constantly with decisions that seperate the boys from the Supermen. For example - you fly across a burning building in suicide slums, but Metallo it terrorizing the business district uptown, and the fire-fighters are stuck in traffic 4 blocks away. You can deal with the fire yourself while Metallo continues to destroy the city, and thus lower the "City Health" meter, or you can pick up the fire truck, place them at the fire, and then rush off to deal with the larger threats that take a "super" touch. By making Metropolis the center of attention, Superman Returns: The Video Game aims to deliver on their promise of letting the player be Superman like never before. Stay tuned to BlueTights.net in the coming weeks for more coverage of the game and it's development.

You're kidding, right? Do you know the sheer amount of data needed to make Metropolis a free-flowing sandbox environment that you can traverse completely and do anything in? And you're complaining about the graphics?
I'd gladly sacrifice a few shaders and high def texture maps for a completely free-roaming destructible environment in which to play the game. It's like saying Grand Theft Auto sucks because the graphics aren't photo-realistic. Give me a break.

The screens look like total ass and if the missions are not fun - then this sandbox game won't work, Spider-MAN 2 is a perfect example. While it was fun to swing around as Spidey , the actual game itself wasn't fun.
Spidey 2 was pretty fun for me. I still play it every once in a while just to swing around and stop runaway drivers and stuff. Just exploring the city is a LOT of fun.
Of course, I think Halo is a hackneyed rip-off of Unreal, so what do I know?

I still screw around with Spiderman 2 as well. I love the enviornment. I think we'll get something similar to GTA and Spiderman 2 but with the ability to free roam right of the bat.

there is no way that metropolis will be so big in the movie
That isn't big! Looks about the size of Manhattan or something. Maybe you aren't looking at it right.

Spider-Man doesn't have the range of Superman though. So you need a good sized city for him to have room.
Here's a sat photo of Manhattan for reference:

I had the same reaction to that quote! Sounds amazing...
This is kinda cool...check it out. Here's the last shot of the trailer mixed in with the two city models from the videogame... Looks like the video game devs and the filmmakers are working together.

^ No problem!
I just made that myself. I wanted to see if the videogame model was the same as the area that Superman flies towards at the end of the teaser and I was happy that it was.
I guess that makes Metropolis...an island?
Does anyone know if this is a new version of Metropolis, or has this type of geography been established/shown in other Superman versions?

I think it's a peninsula; it’s surrounded by water, but not completely like an island.
I think it's a new version of Metropolis when it comes to the movies and probably T.V. as well; Smallville's Metropolis is described as only a few hours away from Smallville, in the smack middle of Kansas. I think that SR's Metropolis resembles S:TAS a lot, especially considering the huge water mass that surrounds the city and the sheer scope of the city as well. I also think that they took a lot of elements from the comics.

San Andreas was a mostly open ground. Metropolis is on many levels, very tall and with fully destructable buildings.

I think you're decimal point is a little too far over, bud :) I believe it's 9000.
And I hope we can recreate the scene from the last part of the teaser (even better if there are night-day changes, which I doubt).

Here is another target render from EA’s Superman Returns: the videogame development team. For those not familiar with the term, this image was created models used in the game. The developers place those models into a 3D program, add lighting and shadows, then render out an image to use as a goal. The game's programmers use this goal image as a visual reference to build towards as they game progresses - basically, this is what they want the game to look like.
In this particular image, superman is fighting robots that are minions of Metallo's army.

Still, it looks slightly better with more action going on.

With 3 months left until launch, and them still doing "target renders" and having not yet released actual vids of gameplay, isn't it probable that this game (no matter how high my hopes are for it) will be buggy and just... NOT GOOD? There's play testing and bug squashing left to do, and with an ambitious game of this size, I just don't see the final product being very good. Anyone agree with me?

The target renders are not new, they are from last november. EA are still releasing them to us.
Like I have been saying all along, dont expect much from the game :p
