I just finished watching Season 1 of "The Wire" on DVD. Man, what an awesome, awesome show. I thought that "The Shield" was truly the last word in police drama, but then "The Wire" comes along and shows that there is still more to be done, more ways to turn the genre on its head.

The whole cast put in superb performances, and the writing and direction is top-notch across the board. This is pretty much as close to a "perfect" show as you can get. In terms of utter brilliance and intelligence, the only show on today that matches this first season of "The Wire" is fellow HBO drama "The Sopranos". So why, oh why, does nobody watch "The Wire". Surely it must rank among the most criminally underrated shows on TV.

Now, I need to go buy Season 2...

season1 of the OC was awesome.. I wish the rest of the show couldve been as good as season 1
IMO I think the reason so many people loved season one the most is because the characters weren't so serious and they seemed to have all sorts of fun. They didn't have HUGE problems. In season 2+3 everything became more serious and lost that charm with the characters.
