is you were to have cassie or babs in a begins sequal, who would you cast?
Mister J
02-20-2006, 05:40 AM
First off, this should NOT happen in a Nolan movie, unless they make a Batman Begins 5 or something.
That said, out of deference to history and my personal bias, you go with Barbara Gordon. Barbara's origin can be easily adapted, as done in B:TAS, to tie directly to Batman's influence (even more than her true origin). This could go toward showing what a positive impact Batman is having on Gotham. I like Cassie, but whenever someone says Batgirl, I'll think of Babs first.

i agree i wouldn't really want to see 'Batgirl' in a nolan film, maybe a barbara gordon or oracle? but i was just interseted in which actresses people would choose for babs and cassie.
Mister J

I certainly wouldn't mind seeing a Barbara Gordon cameo or a passing reference. Never really casting much thought. I'm drawing a blank off the top of my head. Gotta mull that one over...

i'd prolly pick rachel mcadams, she is hawt, and i would love to see her dressed in tight leather :P
wouldn't have a clue who to cast as cassie though
Mister J

Sienna Guillory popped into my mind for Barbara and Alicia Witt did as well. Cassie is tough; maybe Mila Kunis.
These are just random though.

Scarlett Johansson is my pick for Barbara. She's a great actress, around the right age, is already working with Nolan on The Prestige, and she's is absolutely gorgeous. Dye her hair red and she'd be perfect for Barbara.

Yea, if they were to introduce Batgirl into Nolan's films it would have to be like the 6th or more...because you have to introduce Robin first and several of Batman's villains. Not a bad idea of saying Scarlett Johansson could be her. I could see that. But would prefer a redhead for the role.
NO sidekicks. Not even Robin. :batman:

I'm honestly of two minds about this...
The film fan in me thinks, knows, that Cassie's origin and personality would fit with the style of Nolan's films perfectly, and would really make for quite an interesting storyline. One that wouldn't be at all campy, childish, or even greatly unrealistic.
However, the comic fan in me hates that idea simply because, obviously, it would greatly go against accepted comic book continuity. This...side of me would rather see Dick introduced in the 4th film, then a Barbara Gordon Batgirl introduced in #5 or 6 (if we have a BB5 or 6).
So far, the comic fan perspective is winning...but I honestly don't think I'd complain much if Nolan went directly to Cassie Cain. :o

As I said, dye her hair. It would be nice for a redhead to grab the part, but I can't think of any redheads in the proper age range of the character (Barbara always struck me as being between 18 and 25 years old). Lindsay Lohan woul've been okay about a year and a half ago, but she's made a major transformation since then and she's reached a point where I just can't stand her.
With that in mind, Scarlett to me seems to be the perfect choice for the role. I'd also love to see Keira Knightley in the part, but she seems better suited for Talia to me (though I'd prefer Rachel Weisz for Talia). But at the moment, I feel Scarlett is the best choice for the role.

Wow, Biel's younger than I thought. I don't think she's that strong of an actress though, at least compared to the other three you posted. And Elisha Cuthebert is better suited for Harley Quinn.

No sidekicks what so ever, if all those villains rumored to appear in the sequel actually do get confirmed, then I want to see Bruce/Batman use all that he learned in BB to take them all down. Including finding there weak spots, along with getting twice as smarter then he was in the first...I really want him to use his detective skills as a useful attribute like in the books to figuring out what his rogues are planning before they actually succeed in doing them.

But she's already Gwen Stacy.
1) The only way I would use Batgirl was if Barbara was dressed as "Bat-Girl" at a costume party... if she happens to help Batman catch some armed party-crashers or something, sure, why not? Even little girls can dress up as their favorite urban legend and yell "watch out!"
I would not, under any circumstances let some untrained girl wander around the rooftops in body armor. Period.
2) If I were to use Barbara Gordon as a supporting cast member I would use her A) As she was in the Kililng Joke, and transfer that into a character development issue for Captain/Commissioner Gordon. B) Criple her and have her drop tips to Batman via computer as an 'Oracle.'
3) If I had to cast Batgirl, I would definitely cast a teenage role, especially since we've seen her as a little girl in Begins. I'd probably cast someone like Taylor Dooley or some other bright faced kid who can pull the downtrodden look off and speak intelligently.
4) In a perfect world, she'd have a scene with Batman at the party a couple small scenes with her father, a scene getting shot and stuff, and a couple scenes doing the computer thing... there's all the Batgirl anybody needs, and that's not too much Batgirl for anybody, not even Nolan.

Actually, that little baby we see for half a second is most likely not Babs, it's probably James Jr. In post-crisis continuity, Gordon had a wife named Barbara (it's her that's mentioned in the credits, not the baby) and a young son, James Jr. Barbara was his neice, who came to live with him in her pre-teens. Gordon had a relationship with Bab's mother before she married her father, and it's suspected that Gordon may be her biological father. So seeing as how the baby in that scene is quite young, I'd say it's most likely the baby is indeed James Jr, and not Babs.

People always get that wrong Katsuro, I been telkiing on this board that the woman is wife of Gordon named Babara Gordon and Gordon has a affair with Essen she has a baby girl and Essen names the baby Babata after Gordon's wife.
Katsuro
02-27-2006, 05:08 PM
no, Bab's wasn't the daughter of Sarah Essen. It was Gordon's neice who lived in Chicago. She moved in with Gordon in her preteens, her real parents (supposedly) were Gordon's brother Roger and his wife Thelma. It's suspected that Gordon had an affair with Thelma before she married Roger, so Bab's might be his real daughter. No relation to Sarah Essen though, as Babs was already born when Gordon had his affair with her.

If Batgirl was to make her debut in the Nolan franchise I would want it to be way later in the franchise. I would want to see Robin before I see her and I wouldn't want to see Robin til the end of the third film.
As to which Batgirl, I would have to say Barbara Gordon. It would be much more difficult or they would have to make a lot of changes in Cassie's origin if you ask me to have her be Batgirl in the Nolan films.

I know I'm sort of just jumping in on the conversations, but IMO...I think that Sophia would make the best Batgirl already previously shown, BUT...seeing as there definitely wont be a Batgirl in 2...and I'm sure 3....that means it wont be until a new decade in which we even have a CHANCE of seeing a young lady strap on the Survivial Suit....so my hope will be on a young teen woman who most of us know as a little girl now as Dakota Fanning....she'll be what....17 or 18 by the time they get there....I think that would be the BEST option if acting is a main concern...
Now as far as Selina/Catwoman, I have to agree with the negative aspects of Scarlet Johannsen, I really don't care for her that much....I always saw someone like....Eliza Dushku as Selina in the new movies...the somewhat young actress who has that attitude...and for Robin....I HATE Robin...I'll give Chris O'Donnell this, he did the best he could with what he had but...we already know how that turned out.
I think the best thing that could happen as far as sidekicks for Batman....Nightwing....just bypass the untrained kids and "Diaper-changing" Batman....go straight to when he had a partner that was at least half as legit as he was....as far as who would make a good NW....got me there.
