great work singer. keep the good work
Knowing Clark first thing he would do once back in Metropolis would be trying to get his job back. Then he can get a place to live.
Plus two huge suitcases and Clark means some funny scenes with things getting knocked over.
Also part of the ruse...........
If he's been traveling the world for years he's gotta have some seriously large and well worn luggage to casually and innocently present as exhibit A.

Not necessarily straight to work, kind of a subtle reminder to everyone that....."remeber I told you all I was travelling extensively and here's the proof" a mechanism to reinforce the secret identity thing.

If you look closely at the spread he is reading you can faintly see through the page. The headline reads "Why the world doesn't need Superman" I think.
Reading that among all the disasters that have occured while being away is enough to p*** anyone off.

Great pics. Although I REALLY hope that Singer has some space in between Clark's return and Superman's. Anyone else think that it would be interesting to see Clark return and have to just wait and deal with all of the disasters, crimes, etc. just so it doesn't give away his identity? And after like a month he just can't take it anymore and becomes Superman once again.

Let's look closely at this shall we.......
Here's how I see it.......
We Know STM and SII are the continuity of SR. We can assume that the timeline of SR occurs shortly after STM and SII. Now that being said only Lois has been in close contact with both Clark and Superman. None of the other characters have spent more than a brief minute or two with the Man of Steel. However all the other characters have spent a good deal of time with Clark Kent. Not surprisingly then only Lois suspects the connection, and when she voices her suspicion she is often berated for it. Clearly those who are most familiar with Clark cannot concieve in their wildest dreams of the connection.
Clark leaves to travel the world. Not exactly a drastic thing for a young man to want to do, and certainly not a trivial pursuit for a star reporter. Perhaps he is travelling the globe to get experience in order to enrich his writing style. There are a multitude of reasons that make sense. Add to the ruse Martha's involvement, the post cards form around the planet (there may be more inventive devices also photos, souveneirs etc.) and Clark's alibi is quite believable.
Superman vanishes without a trace. No super-rescues, no mysterious sightings, nada. No post cards. He is gone.
The post cards and what not from Clark however are concrete evidence that Mr Kent is still very much around. Now if Clark had simultaneously vanished there might be a point to be made, but the key element here is Superman has totally vanished, while the whereabouts of Clark are for all intents and purposes well known.
So, save for Lois who suspects prior to SR any way, how does the re- appearance of Clark and Superman in a close time frame even raise an eyebrow among the other players? Surely everyone will ask where Superman was, but they are quite clear on where Clark was.

You know I don't think anger will be a driving force, but rather a self questioning on his part upon his return. He will be searching within himself regarding his role as Superman on Earth. Does the world truly need a Superman to survive? How many milennia have passed without one? etc.

It's not a cover protecting restriction at all......
"This look's like a job for Superman." is much more than just a catch phrase, it is a supremely necessary rule.
Superman must allow "mortal man" to handle a majority of the crime and emergencies that occur everyday. He must find a delicate balance for his intervention that avoids creating a total reliance by Earth on his aid.

I think he's reading the Lois article, it would make sense in the storyline. He is probably reading about all the diasters, crashing trains, murders, and so on. Then he comes to the Lois article and it really pisses him off.
Other scenarios, an article about Lex Luthor, or the most far fetched but still relatable a story about 9/11. Makes him feel guilty and strap on red boots once again.

What I am saying is I don't want Clark and Superman to show up on the same day. I want there to be a gap. His secret identity needs to be just that...a secret. I am sorry but I don't want everyone who knows Clark in the film to be conviently ignorant and unable to make that simple connection.

Getting more buzz from who? Entertainment Tonight and Access Hollywood have been talking Returns. There are exclusive photos popping up everywhere as well as a flood of merchandise. Brandon was at the Golden Globes doing a Superman bit with Terry Hatcher. Superman Returns was the 3rd most searched term on yahoo for the year, Spiderman was 5th, and Returns came in #1 on the most searched term in February.
The only place where there is more buzz for Spiderman than Superman Returns is on the Spiderman boards. I love the Spiderman movies and am always checking that section of the boards, but your information is factless.

Some of the guys at my school I showed the pic of spidey in that black suit and they were ecstatic and can't wait for spidey3, however when I showed them the pics of routh they were like all "Yeah Yeah Yeah whatever".:o dude.

When you try to pass of opinion as fact that is usually the outcome. If you posted it as an opinion it is a different story. The way I debate is I use facts to back up my point and points to back up my opinion. I can handle opinions but not opinions potrayed as facts. Its all in good fun.

I know maybe two people TOPS who are excited for Superman Returns. Everyone else shrugged.
I personally think the story sounds excellent, but their hype machine is lacking. I know we have about 4 more months until the film comes out, so maybe we'll see it pick up in May or so. But damn. I was more hyped for Batman Begins than Superman Returns.

At work (videogame game company) I 've been showing pics from Superman and trying to hype it up for the last 6 months. Most people dug the new Superman costume but remain "Meh" about the movie.
But when the black spiderman suit showed up last week, my god! EVERYONE was buzzed about it and talking Venom and symbiotes all week and asking if the movie was coming out THIS summer only to be disappointed by the realisation of more than a years wait.
Even my friends who read Superman comics seem more excited and intrigued about Spiderman3.
That could all change once the new trailer comes out and shows us (FINALLY) the huge scale of this movie. I for one can't wait to see that and not more crappy daily planet set pics.

FACTS:

I'm not talking about corney magazines and cheesy entertainment shows that devote half the subject matter to desperate housewives and Tom and Kate I'm talking about the buzz on the street, in the comic stores, at work where everyones younger than me and who play gmas read comics love movies and all my friends and other "fans" and abosolutely no one bar MYSELF (that I have come across) is excited for this movie. And considering it's only months away and has a huge budget thats surprising.
And after the luke warm reception King Kong got I would start putting out some real marketing if I were WB, NOT corney EW covers of Kate and brandon or plain daily planet pics.
Like a pic of jimmy olsen with a camera could get ANYONE excited.

I hate to tell you but the general public is a much broader audience than those who patrol comic book stores and play video games? Think about it logically, how many people do you come across in a day, or in a year even. It doesn't amount to the people who are surfing the internet everyday searching for information on Returns that have pushed it to 3rd most searched movie of last year and 1st in February.
I think WB knows what they're doing, they're hitting us with a marketing blitz the last three months. Superman is no King Kong, there is no comparision. Better comparision is with Batman Begins which turned out fantastic and was a sleeper hit.
You're forgetting about the shot of Superman holding up the Daily Planet Globe and descending with it along with the countless other photos.

aha :)Well, the people he talked with ARE the general public who will be going to see the movie...
It's nothing to be surprised of if people aren't excired for SR, but are for SM3. Spider-Man has had 2 movies, people know what to expect. Superman has been absent for a long time, people aren't so happy to see him anymnore (sounds familiar :)).
But the advertising hasn't started yet. Hopefully some clips will be released showing amazing stuff to win people over.

Remember we live in a country with the shortest attention span on the block. Intice em right before the movie comes out and people will flock to it.

Damn right they do(attention span)!
I thought people wouldn't go and see Batman Begins because of the origin part, but thankfully word of mouth won over and the fact that people really like Batman after all. B&R didn't kill it permanently.
Supermans a bit dorkier though but I'm sure it will do very well. In fact it will probably do way better than Batman box office wise.
i need to see at least one more villain from the books besides Luthur before I die so I need some sequels too.

Of course. The broad audience go billions beyond who I know. But don't you think at least the fans should be excited about THEE biggest superhero in a movie that people are calling THEE biggest WB movie of all time.
I think they also missed an oportunity to show stuff at Wondercon (which is down the street from me). They showed no new footage which is a disgrace.

Thats the problem. The fans of the comics are the worst critics and for the most part can never be pleased because they are comic book fans. There is a difference between Superman comic fans and Superman fans. Big difference.
