I've always thought he had a big enough neck, but knew His ears and the tight neckline weakened it visually like some weird illusion. His whole face is an illusion... one minute superman, next minute superboy, next minute supermodel... goodness...

i'm still holding my ground against the whole "religious symbolism" theory. i don't think they MEANT to make Superman look like a religious figure of any kind....i think they were just trying to give Superman a very powerful (and equally graceful) pose and that pose is used quite a bit in comic books.
i'll agree Supes' pose is REMINISCENT of religious poses, but i don't think they put Supes in that pose with the intent on making Supes look like a religious figure.

On purpose or not, that is what Superman is. He's looked on as a christ figure. Its in Smallville, even in that frist episode and greatly in STM. "Live as one of them, Kal-El, to discover where your strength and your power are needed. Always hold in your heart the pride of your special heritage. They can be a great people, Kal-El, they wish to be. They only lack the light to show the way. For this reason above all, their capacity for good, I have sent them you... my only son."
There I say more....

i can talk about this movie while talking about influences and leaving religion out of it.
as i said, Singer was influenced by Donner and Donner put religious references in his movie...but that doesn't mean Singer is intentionally putting religious references in HIS film. if you can't get that then i'm sorry...but that's all i have to say concerning Singer putting religious undertones in Superman Returns.
i'll discuss Superman Returns and it's influences from the original movie, but i will not discuss Superman Returns and religious influence because i don't see any. not to mention, i like to keep religion out of it because anytime somoene brings in religion...things tend to get ugly.

i'm thinkin' his hair might not be as stylizable as Reeve's was. i have thick stubborn hair and it's hard to style so i'm guessing that's Brandon's problem also. i guess they couldn't make his hair look good when trying to comb his hair the other way from his natural part.

Has anyone considered something? From the card where he's about to go change into the closet, while looking at it i remembered that there was a scene similar to it in S-M2. So far the closet scene and the shirt rip have been riped off from Superman by one of Marvel's heros. Frankly i was really pissed that they used the shirt rip in S-M1 and trying to pass it off as they own. Anyone else feel this way?
I bet if they use it in S-M3 , there's going to be some confrontation and i hope WB better step in and claim their trademarks!

another example of people looking for things that aren't there. if someone is lying down on the floor and you want to support their head....that's the natural position for doing it. i'm sure many people have made those poses in real life without even noticing it and i'm sure many people formed those poses even BEFORE Jesus was crucified. in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon...Chow Yun Fat's character (Li Mu Bai) is lying down at the end of the movie and Michelle Yeoh has to hold his head. i'm sure they were in the same position but that doesn't mean that was a reference to the bible...
here's another example of a similar pose...

It makes sense that Superman doesn't get Lois straight away - it sets it up for sequels, the audience will keep coming back to see them together. The same way the Spider-Man movies have been done - it's as much about whether Peter and MJ will get together as it is about Spider-Man himself.

another example of people looking for things that aren't there. if someone is lying down on the floor and you want to support their head....that's the natural position for doing it. i'm sure many people have made those poses in real life without even noticing it and i'm sure many people formed those poses even BEFORE Jesus was crucified. in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon...Chow Yun Fat's character (Li Mu Bai) is lying down at the end of the movie and Michelle Yeoh has to hold his head. i'm sure they were in the same position but that doesn't mean that was a reference to the bible...
here's another example of a similar pose...

It's called lighting. Routh only looks good in top-down lighting because the shadows make his jaw look more masculine. When you see his face in normal lighting, he looks like a little kid. He also doens't have real sideburns (another immature like feature), only a tuft of hair in front of his right ear but not his left in all pictures. That's so wierd.
He also looks like a wuss because his hairstylists suck and pasted his hair to his head so that he looks like a geek. There is no rule that Superman's hair has to be slicked down. Superman has natural hair in the comics. They should have just let Routh use his natural hair as Superman.

I never did like the seams. They look out of place when they're not lined up together... not if they WERE lined up together up and down, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

The trailers and images like this have convinced me that such a thick shield was a mistake. While it should certainly be raised, I think it should have been a thin, flexible plastic instead of the sculpted block they used. Thinner, more flexible material would have looked more in-line with the rest of the suit.
