of course it was not the original opening. they already showed us in the blogs how they will make it. they change it because they cut out he krypton scene. so everything had to be changed.
the original opening was a new opening it was a fresh opening. all this time we are saying how singer made everthing the same. this was something that would be new ....but they couldnt ...they just couldnt do it. they just had to make it the same. for christ sake the font was the same. it looked so 70's. the music is classic, the farm is classic but for christ sake the opning was dated. it looked cheap.

what the hell was wb doing with its morons in the marketing deparments??
these are the best pics,
the poses are absolutely a million times better than the promo pics we got,
had these been released during the films release, no doubt you get a better view of what the movie will be like
WB needs to fire their marketing deparment,
there is absolutely no excuse for them not to show these pictures, absolutely none,
unless it was done deliberately by WB to sabotage singer's vision.

Besides, I don't let movie poster coloring affect my opinion of the movie since it shouldn't have any bearing on it at all.

That's why you should buy the dvd . If your a superman fanboy, you'll buy the dvd to support your hero [Who has been missing from The Big Screen for a long time.] I presonally while their were somethings I didn't like about the movie. When watching it I didn't care because SUPERMAN was back . And For an introduction back into both the media and in the pop cluture, I was happy with the movie [And I can't wait to buy the dvd] not to mention the upcoming sequel which is sure to be better [just like X2 was, heck i'm sure it will be even better.]

And if you think about it really hard SR was really good compeared to Superman III & IV not to mention Batman & robin as well as all the other bad superhero movies .

I understand what you're saying. I agree with some of the suit issues but not with the lighting tone. I think there was a reason for it which was evidenced by Superman Recharging and Superman flying at the end. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. From what is swirling right now, I believe you will be a happy camper with the sequel.
Super Kal

I really hope so... I'm happy I got to see something of a Fleischer movie with Donner overtones, but now I want to see something completely modern and free from Fleischer and Donner.
Showtime
11-06-2006, 12:45 PM
I think that was the point of Returns, "tossing away" the Donner Universe and moving forward. I really do believe that, and I hope for it. I think that we are going to see some more comic elements. Superman flew in Returns like we've never see him fly before. Now we are going to see Superman in action against a supervillian as it was meant to be. I am going to have such high hopes for this movie.

the one cgi shot that really bumbed me out was when he flew away from the plane in the stadium --- it just looked terrible. It may of been the way Singer composed the shot, the angle of the shot, etc. I can't really remember what it was about it. Just too CGI
on a side note, i think thats one of my problems with modern CGI, directors become too creative with where they can virtually place the camera and it ruins the effect. The point of CGI is to make something unrealistic look realistic --- like looking into a rear view mirror to see a t-rex chasing you. It just doesn't work when the director places the camera somewhere the camera can't be. It especially irkes me when something blows up and shards fly into and past the camera. I guess i just like things grounded in reality.
SolidSnakeMGS
11-06-2006, 11:00 PM
I don't want them to EVER use a CGI Superman again! I know, I know...some things are impossible to shoot in real. But they should find a way or find another shot, IMO.

That was a cool feature on the Batman DVD, tons of posters. That would be cool for Returns, but I they don't have that from what I know.
Maybe on the possible future extended-release?
Whatever happened to those bad pictures of Routh in the suit, and my post, and everyone elses? Did WB request to have those pictures and comments to be removed from this forum, so the film doesn't get any negative buzz that the studio thinks that film doesn't need so that it won't affect DVD sales?
If those pics were deleted its probably to avoid possible legal trouble. It has nothing to do with dvd sales. Sony and Fox have also asked for promopics and even setpics to be removed from other boards here in the past. I've seen entire threads disappear resulting in lots of pissing and moaning.
you can not just delete the pics.

It doesn't matter how big he is in real life. All that matters is how he looks onscreen. If he looks to skinny onscreen, then he needs to be bigger.

I know what you mean about the design element to the Superman posters.....The best thing they did was that DVD cover with Supes flying by the plane's wing. THAT should have been an official poster to the movie. They need more 'in action' shots like that. Supes himself isn't as cool looking as Spidey or Bats. They need to show what he can do in these supposed thought out promotional items.

agreed. Routh has the muscles and the definition. the suit just squeezes them out. i think it's dumb that they go with a more restricting material. just because they don't want folds, creases, and wrinkles in the suit.

The good thing is now..he doesn't have reeve hanging over his head as well.. he has alot of time now..and so do the production team to work out the kinks so to speak.
I personally think that it was the muscle suit that ruined the look of him..it looked like he couldnt move properly..like when his arms were out stretched.

Milliskin (the SR suit material) is supposed to be even lighter than the Nike material and this thing still compress muscle. Gavin Henson looks slightly bigger, especially in the arms, shirtless. But they could have Nike make the costumes for free, with a product placement exchange.

Singer says that the costume have that style, because is adapted to the Routh body, but that is not true, the proportions of the costume thosen give to brandon a strong look, If I have the oportunity to show what I can do with Brandon, you would be very suprise!
Another thing, Singer says that Brandon dotn get more big muscles, because he thosen need it!!! that was a mistake, because if Brandon would get more biger, he would look more mature, and he can have the oportunity to made his neek and haws more stronger, and that is what he need to look mature and strong! in a more muscular shape, we thosen need the muscle suit behind the costume.
The hair look would need to be more like the Reeve wen he was in the desert in the first movie!!! that eas one of the best hair look of all Superman performances ever!! and would look much better in Routh. Specialy wen he is flying! superman have a very strong hair, so it woul be dificult that superman hair move to much with the wind! and made look the character more preserved on his look, wen brandon have the hair moving with the wind, he thosen look like superman any more, the hairlook is very very very important on the Superman look! and of course he should turn his hair black, because wen you see him with a strong ligth, his ahir looks brown!
And for the last thing, the Superman costume should look as the classic we know, but whith modern materials!!! all this would made Brandon look amazing

The concept of a man flying without a space suit isn't realistic. The suspension of disbelief aside, and the accuracy of lighting, look, etc. Makes the clear un-realistic concept, look realistic within the context of the picture. So yes, it looks realisic. Just as the physics to the plane sequence looked pretty realistic, for being COMPLETELY un-realistic.

Well of course it is a darker toned red, and in that exact scene he is in darkess because light is being blocked by a giant shuttle. When he is flying in broad daylight towards the crashing jet, the suit's colors look very rich and powerful.

Really? Seeing as how he has had them many times. Bottom line is, the character was red and blue. Where has it ever been stated the "character wasn't made to have dark colors on his suit"? It isn't black, it isn't grey, it isn't forest green. His suit is a blood red and blue. His costume has had different tones and versions of colors to his suit before.

The colors sucked, plain and simple, I'm not going to be an apologist for this point. Honestly I feel it's what kept the box office lower than expected on a psychological level for mainstream audiences.
watching the special features I honestly believe, Louise Mingenbach, while well intentioned, had no bussiness working on this movie, she needs to be replaced or seriously redeem herself.

I dunno, the red areas in those pics don't exactly scream "Purple red" to me...or even whisper it for that matter. Yes, it's dark and low on the saturation, but, at least in those pics, I'm not so much seeing the purple.
However...I do want a more stand-out red in the sequel. I feel like the red that was used might've looked red enough in person and in test & behind-the-scenes footage, but it often lost a lot of its strength in the final cut.
Oof, this really isn't the place to be going on about this though...

There are certain psychological "tricks" if you will that can make a movie more appealing to a general audience, color pallet is one of them. While I'm sure the action, or seeming lack thereof played a role in general disinterest, I feel the actual colors and marketing approach hurt the film more in the longrun.
I could go on all day about this film, as it is genuinly interesting analyzing it, but this isn't the place. Carry on picture fiends.

There is no such thing as "purple red". It's different tones of the same color. The suit was red and blue. The suit looked great.
If one believes average viewers didn't go see Returns in masses because the suit had blood red, instead of super neon red? Then there might be a lack of intelligence of said person. It had little to nothing to do with the success of the film. The only part of the population that whines over superhero movie costumes is the comic buying public. They always have something to complain about.

Those pictures of Superman and the costume's colors match perfectly with the colors from the cartoon slides, of the extremely popular Fleisher cartoons.

wine red is a perfect example of "purple red".

if they actually were the same thing, then the SR suit would look like this:

if it actually looked like that in the film, I would be praising the suit left and right all night long.... but that's NOT what it looks like in the film.

Yeah, but it is still red. haha Either way, the color is red.

Then please tell me, what DID it look like? The picture I posted in comparison to the Fleisher is that of one of the darkest scenes from the movie, with little to no light to bring out the colors. The costume was a pure chameleon. It looks darker than it is, because for some reason Singer decided to use a very dark saturation to his film. In the plane sequence, it looked really bright in the sun's rays. It was rich in color.
The Returns suit is virtually the same as the Fleisher suit. Either way, the suit wasn't where the problems of the film lay. Afterall, we are arguing semantics, and about the richness and or tone of a suit. Whatever the character wears should always be the least of concern, in terms of getting the characters right. The only people who ***** about costumes are the classic dorks, who are consumed by the little thing, and don't get the big picture. Always has been. Whether its for Batman, Spider-man, etc. Look at you kakarot, you're catching feelings because I said the suit closely resembles the color of the Fleisher cartoons (which it does, it was the obvious look they were going for), so please lighten up. We know you wanted the flaming colors on the superman suit. The ones so bright it looks offensive, and corny. But spare me, the suit was red, don't keep putting this "it was purple" spin to it. Dark red, light red, medium red, either way its red.

People are affected by elements on an unconscious level. You aren't nearly as clever as you think you are.
