Saint Talks Ma Kent
IGN chats with Superman's mom!
by Jeff Otto
March 13, 2006 - IGN FilmForce was on hand in Beverly Hills this afternoon at the press day for Wim Wenders new film, Don't Come Knocking. During the press event, we had the chance to chat with screen legend Eva Marie Saint. The actress has a long and extremely impressive resume including such classics as North By Northwest and On the Waterfront.
This summer, Ms. Saint will play mother to Superman himself in Bryan Singer's Superman Returns. IGN spoke to her about the part.
"That was fun," says Saint. "I was in the very beginning of that, when they first started shooting…"
"Brandon Routh… We had this emotional scene… He has to come home after five years… He's been gone [and] we play this emotional scene the first time really working together. It went on for about an hour and then the cinematographer said, 'I'm sorry, I didn't get it.' They didn't get the film… Brandon said, 'Oh,' and I said, 'No, no, no. Just take a deep breath, just make believe you're doing Broadway [and] you're going to do the same right over again. That was a rehearsal. And so, we did the scene, but I remember Bryan Singer, the director, saying, 'Well, that cost us about $600,000 dollars, that hour…"
Warner Brothers
Eva Marie Saint as Martha Kent
Besides the origin scenes of the film's beginning, Saint also has a small bit visiting her son Clark at the hospital in Metropolis. "Well, at the very end. We're sworn to secrecy… I couldn't read the script… Let's keep it secret… [I'm] at the very end, because he goes to the hospital… and I'm concerned about [him]…and I think I meet Louis Lane. I don't know whether that's cut or not…"

Hey, thanks Robocop! Sounds pretty interesting. Too bad they wasted that money on the film though, haha. I wonder if he is in the hospital because of lex or because of something to do with the earthquake.

she says at the end of the film? i would say supes has just averted disaster..or has just been stabbed and crashed landed at the hospital.

Yeah, this is true. My guess right now is that he's stabbed, and musters enough strength to fly away and bam, right into the hospital, no more energy.

The thing that springs to mind is the people out side the hospital..he must have been brought there?
found on the banks of metropolis perhaps?

Very good thought. A passer by is walking along and sees Superman lying on the pavement groaning, or unconcious. Maybe a few people pick him up and carry him to the hospital or an ambulance. Maybe Batman flings down from above and we get a neat pose with him screaming to the sky holding Superman in his arms...............I'm not so sure about that list bit though. :O

Yeah, haha! That would be the biggest suprise of the movie. I like your idea of him possible being carried to a hospital, if he's being carried by an individual I would imagine it'd be someone important to the storyline possibly. Or would you think they'd go a Spider Man 2 route and have a number of citizens carry him.

Oooh, what about this. What if people were still disguisted. They see him laying there and they just pass him by telling him they knew it. Hes not the man of steel. And eventually one person comes along to help, blah blah, probably a kid more than likely. That could be something. I think he'll get the love of the people back by then though, but it would be harsh to see people walking by ignoring him, more emotions.

Shoes have a magical ability in superhero movies. Even non superhero characters. ie: Lois in heels being caught in mid air by Superman. Somehow her shoes never fall off, maybe she glues them on  LOL
What about Vicki Vale in Batman? She must have gone through her whole shoe collection during her stay in Gotham City. If she had returned for Returns she would have either been going barefoot or had invested in sneakers.

I think there may be a big spoiler in the solar force superman.
It looks like he flies to the sun after being weakend by Kryptonite, and returns with returned/increased powers, with a now sun-charred suit.

Sounds plausible.
I'll take that one step further:
It seems that Superman will be thrown into the water at the mock FOS by Luthor, where Luthor leaves him for dead. Later Luthor sees Superman floating underneath is glass bottom yacht out in the ocean. Somehow Lois and Richard spot Superman in the ocean while flying in a small plane. They land in the sea during a rainstorm and rescue Superman. At that moment it is possible that he flies up from the water towards the sun to regain his power to stop what is happening to Metropolis, and ends up in the hospital at the end after these events.

That a guess or from the script ?
Because if he does fly to the sun and regain his strength, then I cant see him in hospital afterwards.

He regains his strength and then has to stop Metropolis from near destruction maybe. It depends on the sequence.
Its possible that he stops Metropolis from destruction and then faces off with Luthor at the end.

Jackman had sneakers on. Don't know what Routh was wearing. Looks like Routh has about an inch on him. However, I don't think Jackman is 6' 2". It's more like 6'1". I saw him once at JFK airport, stood right next to him. I'm 6' 1". We couldn't have been more even in height.
That would make Routh 6' 2" at best, not 6' 4". No way.

dunno, really. I took my avatar from a poster from another forum, and it was already 75x75. then I asked the folks from the avatar thread to reduce it to 50x50 and good ol' hunter rider came through. expanding it would most certainly cause a decay in picture quality.
