Well we got our first info today!

Saw III Coming Oct 27, 2006!
Date: March 2, 2006

By: Kellvin Chavez
Source: Lionsgate (http://www.superherohype.com/forums/)

Lionsgate, the leading independent filmed entertainment studio, and Twisted Pictures today announced plans to develop and produce Saw III, the next film in the psychologically intense and disturbing horror franchise, for an October 27, 2006 wide release. The film will be directed by Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II), with story by Leigh Whannell and James Wan (Saw, Saw II) and screenplay by Whannell. The Twisted Pictures team of Mark Burg and Oren Koules will return as producers with Whannell and Wan set to executive produce. The announcement was made by Peter Block, Lionsgate President of Acquisitions and Co-productions, Jason Constantine, Lionsgate Senior VP of Acquisitions, and the Twisted Pictures team of Mark Burg and Oren Koules. Saw II set a Lionsgate record with a three-day opening weekend of $31.7 million last Halloween, becoming the widest release in Lionsgate history and achieving one of the best opening weekends ever for a horror sequel. With a domestic box office of over $87 million and more than $148 million in worldwide theatrical box office, Saw II easily eclipsed the $55 million domestic box office total of the original Saw. Saw and Saw II have grossed nearly $250 million in combined worldwide box office.

Saw II debuted as the #1 DVD in North America two weeks ago, becoming the fastest-selling theatrical DVD release in Lionsgate history with 3.9 million units sold in its first week alone. The movie was also released on VHS and UMD. The Saw franchise has sold nearly 10 million units to date for Lionsgate.

"Yes, there will be more blood," said Block and Constantine. "Saw III will involve the same creative forces responsible for the tremendous success of Saw II. The Twisted team of Mark and Oren, along with Darren, James and Leigh, have all agreed to be prominently involved in Saw III. We are proud to be partnered with some of the most disturbing creative talents on the planet, and the Saw franchise will ensure that gore becomes every bit as much a Halloween staple as ghosts, goblins and candy corn." Block noted that the film will be dedicated to Twisted Pictures principal and Saw producer Gregg Hoffman, who passed away in November 2005.

"We have been discussing story lines that extend the Saw franchise to new limits and beyond with Lionsgate for the past several months," said Burg and Koules. "The most important element of any franchise is remaining true to the roots of its success. We believe that we are developing a script that is certain to please the Saw franchise's core fans while adding fresh, terrifying and unimaginable new twists to the Saw saga. Jigsaw himself would be proud."

Saw III joins an upcoming Lionsgate slate that includes Trent Cooper's Larry The Cable Guy: Health Inspector (March 24), the inspirational Akeelah And The Bee, starring Laurence Fishburne, Angela Bassett and Keke Palmer (April 28), the provocative Sundance sensation Hard Candy (April), Lionsgate's first entry in the Spanish-language feature film marketplace, La Mujer de mi Hermano, starring telenovela sensation Barbara Mori (April) and the horror film See No Evil, starring WWE superstar Kane (May 19).

Twisted Pictures is helmed by Mark Burg and Oren Koules. Saw, one of the most profitable films of 2004, was their first picture under the new label and was also distributed by Lionsgate. Twisted is currently in postproduction on Catacombs, the first film under the previously-announced nine-picture deal between Twisted and Lionsgate, and is in production on Silence for Universal Pictures.

I must honestly say that I have not seen any of the saws yet but my brother saw saw last year and he liked what he saw and told me if I've seen saw yet, I told him that my friends saw saw and plan on seeing saw many more times until they run out of ideas of saw.

Hey,guys maybe Im wrong about there only being 3 Saws check this out:

Regular B-D scooper Casper just shot me quite an interesting email. Apparently Lions Gate Films is the proud owner of saw3.com, saw4.com and saw5.com domains. What does this mean? Well it either means that they are already planning three more sequels, or they just brought them in case they want to make more sequels. Either way that's a pretty tight find, thanks Casper!

Can't wait to see the new death traps they come up with in this one, not to mention whatever the big twist at the finale will be.

Though I do kinda hope this movie is somewhat more similar to the first Saw than the second one.... while both were good, the sequel's subplot with the people trapped in the house sometimes came across as sort of a weaker version of Cube, though the cleverness of the traps did help make up for that.

It's not really known if he died or not. The ending itself can be taken as him dying with a smile on his face as his final plan came to fruition, however, I'd love to see him one last time for Saw III.

Tobin Bell is an excellent actor and the way he portrays Jigsaw is just so calculating, intelligent, and creepy at the same time.

It was intended as a trilogy prior to the release of the first, and Whannell/Wan/Bousman already have some other horror projects lined up to work on after SAW III.

As you might expect all is not sunny on Lynn's front who's got some dark secrets she's keeping from her family. Then there's Jeff, a dad who has never recovered fully after his son died. It was an accident but he's never been able to forgive himself. how he fits into the SAW legacy is being kept a mystery. Producers are looking for name actors for both of the roles, which should be cast in the next week or so. Darren Bousman is returning to direct the film with a script by Leigh Whannel. What about Detective Matthews? Surely they have to bring him back for Saw III. It's not like he died or anything, so hopefully they show him having his will tested in Saw III.

The Dark Defender
04-17-2006, 03:59 PM
Mathews was locked in a room with a door that only opens from the outside with a virus in his system that would kill him in a matter of hours, it's highly unlikely he'll be alive in SAW III, his part will most likely be flashbacks.

His game was over, both Amanda and John said it. He was tested, and he failed.

If he did survive SAW II, than it cheapens the ending and makes the game rather pointless.

Saw III Reunites Bell, Smith and Meyer
Tobin Bell, Shawnee Smith and Dina Meyer are reprising their starring roles for Saw III, while Bahar Soomekh (Mission: Impossible III) and Angus MacFadyen (Alias, Braveheart) are joining the hit horror franchise for the first time.

Smith and Meyer are back as Amanda and Kerry, respectively. Soomekh will play Lynn, while MacFadyen will play Jeff.

The film, which is being produced by Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures, is set to begin shooting May 8 in Toronto and will wrap by the end of next month. Saw III will be directed by Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II) and is scheduled for an October 27 release.

Variety says that franchise screenwriters Leigh Whannell and James Wan came up with the story for the upcoming installment, with Whannell penning the screenplay.

The horror franchise has grossed more than $250 million at the worldwide box office, with DVD sales approaching 10 million units, according to Lionsgate.

Producers of Saw III are Twisted Pictures' Mark Burg and Oren Koules, and the late Gregg Hoffman, to whom the film will dedicated. Executive producers are Wan, Whannell, Peter Block, Jason Constantine and Dan Heffner.

"Saw" director sentenced to "Death"

James Wan, who co-wrote and directed "Saw," has signed on to direct the revenge thriller "Death Sentence."

The story centers on a man whose family is attacked in a senseless and heinous gang-initiation crime. He enacts a death sentence on each perpetrator. It is based on the novel by Brian Garfield, whose "Death Wish" tome spawned the vigilante franchise starring Charles Bronson.

Casting is underway, with principal photography scheduled to begin in early September.

Fox will distribute "Death Sentence" domestically, under a deal with producer Hyde Park Entertainment, which is fully financing the film.

Saw 3 ****ake was shown at Comic-Con today and will be up tonight.

saw 3 clip shown description

A guy chained up with chains hooked via rings all over him. Through the mouth. Blood dripping over. TV screen turns on with Jigsaw saying this game is being played in the jail cell and talking about how he has been going to jail over and over. How far will he go to break those chains. Live or die, make your choice. Rips the chains off to get to a bomb nearby on the table. An angry screaming fit ripping the chains off from his body. He pulls them all out except for the one in his mouth as it ticks to 0. Then fades to “Saw III.” INTENSE!

How is it exactly the like the beggining of Saw2? You don't know if that's from the beggining and it's a completely different situation. By that estimate every trap is just like Saw2.

well... I am pretty sure it's the beginning of Saw III. largely because they didn't want to really give any spoilers away at all... but in Saw II there is a trap that some guy has to get out of - similar to this.

either way it was totally awesome, heh!

In every movie there's a trap some dude has to get out of. This trap sounds more or less closer to the barb wire one from Saw1.

no i know... I meant this in more of a way like, in the first part of Saw II the trap was by itself, not part of the house and group of people. that's what this one was like, by itself, a quick little one, not part of the "house" or whatever is in the 3rd one

Hey guys, Sorry, I havnt been able to find one yet.

Lions Gate is keeping this teaser a secret. We may get it tommorrow(monday) just keep your fingers crossed.

In the meantime I found this:

Jigsaw has disappeared. With his new apprentice Amanda (Shawnee Smith), the puppet-master behind the cruel, intricate games that have terrified a community and baffled police has once again eluded capture and vanished. While city detectives scramble to locate him, Doctor Lynn Denlon (Bahar Soomekh) is unaware that she is about to become the latest pawn on his vicious chessboard. One night, after finishing a shift at her hospital, Lynn is kidnapped and taken to an abandoned warehouse where she meets Jigsaw (Tobin Bell), bedridden and on the verge of death. She is told that she must keep the madman alive for as long as it takes Jeff (Angus Macfayden), another of his victims, to complete a game of his own. Racing against the ticking clock of Jigsaw’s own heartbeat, Lynn and Jeff struggle to make it through each of their vicious tests, unaware that he has a much bigger plan for both of them…

Except Shawnee and Tobin are fantastic actors, and the films underlay a great message inside sick, twisted balls to the wall horror(which many, mostly the ignorant)have a hard time distinguishing from snuff films.

These are horror movies for horror fans, and they're much needed in a market flooded with one generic, PG-13 jump scare remake/ghost flick after another.

Its gory and makes you uncomfortable, but its not "scary". I’m not going to loose any sleep after watching a saw movie.

I also didn't find any of the actors to be all that great, and some of them were downright terrible. Cary Elwes, who was awesome in Princess Bride, gave one of the worst performances I have ever seen in a theater release picture.

The “great message” is thrown in there to give a reason for the various tortures, just like half the psychopath movies since Seven. It’s gimmicky. The whole movie just feels like its trying really hard to be “Seven to the Xtreme”

I’ll admit it’s better than a lot of the remakes and teeny horror movies that are being make these days, but I don’t see why it has the status it has among some.

Its gory and makes you uncomfortable, but its not "scary". I’m not going to loose any sleep after watching a saw movie.

Not all horror is meant to "scare," some is meant to be suspenseful, some is meant to be disturbing, some is meant to be just plain fun...it all depends.

I also didn't find any of the actors to be all that great, and some of them were downright terrible. Cary Elwes, who was awesome in Princess Bride, gave one of the worst performances I have ever seen in a theater release picture.

His performance is extremely underrated. Playing that type of intensity for that long isn't easy, sitting around carrying on about how laughable it is is easy on the other hand.
Tobin and Shawnee are the heart of these movies, especially in the upcoming installment, and they're both phenominal.

The “great message” is thrown in there to give a reason for the various tortures, just like half the psychopath movies since Seven. It’s gimmicky. The whole movie just feels like its trying really hard to be “Seven to the Xtreme”

Actually the various tortures are the reason why the people they're happening to need the message beaten into their heads, hence why a certain type of person is always chosen as the victim instead of random selection for the sake of torture sequences.
The Seven comparisons go way overboard, that film neither invented nor perfected self-righteous serial killers that believe their motivations are for the greater good.
SAW is no more a rip off of Seven than Seven is off the Hannibal films.

I’ll admit it’s better than a lot of the remakes and teeny horror movies that are being make these days, but I don’t see why it has the status it has among some.

Because as I said, it's no holds barred horror made specifically in the interest of horror fans, rather than watered down mainstream rubbish that the studios dish out these days that people that are passionate about the genre generally couldn't care less about.

I don't mind the running time at all. It creates more tension, more character development, and I love long movies.

The running time is the length that X3 should've been. How sad is it that SAW gets a 2 hr and 16 minute running time, yet X3 gets a lame 1 hour and 40 minute running time length.

Can't wait for Saw III. Should be very interesting to say the least.

This sounds like the most interesting plot of the three. The first movie is obviously the best, but this one seems like it may surpass that. Plus, me being a student of the medical field, it definitely sounds the most interesting.

Interesting news. I would have assumed Jigsaw owuld have died in 3. I mean he is at death's door basically. Unless some how he's cured.

I'm iffy on them going with the Saw movies so far.

My bet is a prequel.

Actually if I'm not mistaken the prequel was done in comic book form and was available on the Saw 2 Special Edition DVD.

But you could be correct. If it's a prequel it would be the most emotional one as it focuses on John being told he has cancer, loses his job, loses his wife, and so forth.

It'd be interesting to see a Saw prequel.

zer00
10-19-2006, 03:48 PM
Yeah but there would be nothing in the prequel that would be something that's Sawlike. Hence the comic.

So they'd end up screwing it up.

A fourth...Hmm... It looked like from the end of the second that Tobin wasn't gonna make it through the 3rd film, or maybe they have one of the biggest mind-****s in store for the 4th one?

Exclusive: Saw III's Darren Lynn Bousman:
http://comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=17120

Darth Elektra
10-24-2006, 02:02 PM
SAW III (Lionsgate)
Starring Tobin Bell, Shawnee Smith, Angus MacFadyen, Bahar Soomekh, Dina Meyer, Donny Wahlberg
Directed by Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II, Identity Lost, Butterfly Dreams); Written by Leigh Whannell (Saw, Saw II)
Genre: Horror, Thriller
Rated R
Tagline: “Sometimes rules are meant to be broken…”
Plot Summary: As the man known as Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) lies on his death bed, his protégé Amanda (Shawnee Smith) recruits a doctor to try to keep him alive, while the distraught father of a boy killed in a car accident (Angus MacFayden) is given a chance to run a gauntlet of traps in order to get revenge for those responsible.
Of Note: The threequel to the first true horror sensation of the 21st Century promises a lot more gore, as well as a few answers to pressing questions.
Pros: The fact that this is written by Leigh Whannell, co-creator of the series and writer of the two previous movies, and directed by the same director as the last movie already gives this movie an advantage over other threequels. This will focus more on Jigsaw and his new liege Amanda, which should be of great interest to anyone who has followed the story thus far. The last movie is likely to have picked up a lot of DVD business, and the follow-up is getting an even wider release. You have to figure that some of the teens who were into the first movie two years ago might be old enough to get into an R-rated movie by themselves now.
Cons: The last movie is likely to have lost some of the movie’s older and female audience, as it got away from psychological thrills and more towards straight gore, and the threequel continues that tradition. There are many movies for older audiences in theatres, and they’ll likely pick one of them instead. Even though it hasn’t been a problem for previous movies, the lack of star power might keep it from expanding its audience beyond the fans it already has. In the last month, two other franchise sequels failed to meet the financial expectations set by their predecessors.

The Weekend box-office predicts: 31.2 million.
