I spent a bit of time watching FUNimation's LUPIN THE THIRD film releases (again), and I finally got around to watching Discotek media's re-release of the old Animego dub of LUPIN THE THIRD: THE FUMA CONSPIRACY. It has some good extras, including a commentary by Reed Nelson, the creator of the LupinTheThird.net fansite who even runs a podcast about the character, or used to. Considering this was an OAV from 1987 that already had been on DVD before, this was a good investment of material for Discotek. Sadly, it didn't sell well enough for them to bother with any more Lupin anime, least now.

For now, though, patience has rewarded me; I snapped up FUNimation's season sets of YU YU HAKUSHO, and have seen episodes 1-43 within the past week or so. Very solid series that I waited years to own. I missed most of it while it was on CARTOON NETWORK, and these are the unedited episodes. Not everyone likes the dub or the English theme, but it's a better English theme than, say, Manga Video's old GUYVER song. The main actors for the major characters are good, although you can quickly tell the same people are voicing the endless stream of opponents for the four leads, so the voices for them gel. Basically, for those not in the know, YU YU HAKUSHO is very much akin to shounen series like DBZ, only with trading the supernatural for DBZ's aliens and with a bit less decompression; major battles in YYH rarely last longer than 2-3 episodes, whereas in DBZ they can easily last 10-25+. The characterization is pretty good; unlike DBZ, the series knows to stick with 4 main heroes and about as many regular supporting characters, rather than a cast of a dozen or so, and it works better.

Sadly, FUNimation hasn't acquired the rights to the YYH films, THE GOLDEN SEAL (which was 30 minutes and shown alongside the NINKU movie) or POLTERGEIST REPORT, a full 90 minute feature which was actually my introduction to the series by 1998-1999 or so when I bought it on VHS. AnimeWorks still has the disc rights to the first movie, which I also own on VHS and is alright, basically just a slightly longer episode with better animation. POLTERGEIST REPORT, which was released by the now defunct Central Park Media/U.S. Manga Corps on DVD in 2002 and 2004 is worth tracking down even though it is out of print. I snagged a copy online for about $8. The animation quality is incredible as was the action, although it has been years since I watched it and I am deliberately waiting since I am watching the series. Both are dubbed by completely different troupes of actors from the TV series, though. If I was FUNimation I would try to attain the rights to at least one of these to be able to redub them and re-release them, since they've just re-released the series, but whatever.

YU YU HAKUSHO episodes #107-112.

Which basically means that I finished out the series. There's the 2004 re-release of Central Park Media's dub of the YYH movie, POLTERGIEST REPORT left to view, but this is essentially the entire YU YU HAKUSHO as dubbed and re-released on seasonal box sets by FUNimation. With Central Park Media entering Chapter 7, "over and done" bankruptcy, now would be the best chance in years for FUNimation to get the rights to the movie.

The YU YU HAKUSHO manga was printed in Japan from 1991-1994, and the anime series from 1992-1995 (with two theatrical animated films in the middle). In some ways it is quite typical of the time, which was in the middle of DRAGON BALL Z's prime in Japan. The creator, who is married to the SAILOR MOON manga creator, went on to do HUNTER X HUNTER.

YYH is basically typical of a lot of that "fighting series" of the time, with battles against monsters, world-destroyers, and about 55 episodes worth of tournaments within 112 episodes. As opposed to Dragon Ball Z, which often deals with elements of aliens and advanced technology, YYH deals exclusively with the supernatural, with demons, spirits, and so forth. There are four main "fighter" characters and they all are unique and interesting in their own ways. It's not as decompressed as DBZ, where the typical fight is over within 2-3 episodes, and even the "boss" battles at 7-8 episodes are nothing compared to some other series. There are moments of drag but few and far between. The ending was fairly satisfying, perhaps more so than even FULL METAL ALCHEMIST: THE MOVIE. I probably hadn't enjoyed a series this much since GUYVER 2005.

Turn A Gundam, episode 9.

I love this Gundam so far, but I can see why it's a love it or hate it series. It's got the usual tragic war setting of a Gundam, but not as much action as most other Gundam series. It's also more upbeat than your usual Gundam as well. Plus the main character, Loran Cehack, is...while not necessarily weird himself, has to do weird things, like pretend he's a girl lol.

I'm also interested in this series because it's called the CC (Correct Century), and is supposed to show clips from various other Gundam series on monitors in the background during the last fight. That's what drew me to it in the first place. Either way I'm glad I started watching it.

I watched the YU YU HAKUSHO MOVIE: POLTERGEIST REPORT movie, which was actually dubbed by the now defunct Central Park Media, a.k.a. MANGA CORPS, back in 1998 (and released on DVD in 2002, and then in 2004 with a new cover to capitalize on the TV show airing on Cartoon Network). It was originally my first entry into the franchise in high school and I had just "upgraded" to DVD with it, having found an out-of-print copy online for about $6. It was interesting watching it after having finished the TV series (which was incredibly fun). The animation quality is superior to that of the YYH TV show, having a theatrical budget in 1994 of about $15 million in U.S. dollars (via yen, of course). In some ways it is typical of a lot of movies from TV fighting shows; it introduces a powerful but simple threat, reunites the star characters, has most of the main supporting cast show up, even if only for a cameo, and ends with one spectacular brawl.

I was expecting the voice cast to clash poorly to my ear, having now gotten used to the FUNimation dub cast, and while FUNi obviously has the better, more experienced cast, Manga Corps' dub isn't bad. Obviously the ADR directors had similar notes of how to cast many of the characters, just the FUNimation cast usually has more gusto. Now that Central Park Media is defunct and literally being liquidated to clear up nearly $2 million in debt, I am curious if FUNimation will try to acquire the rights to this. They just finished re-releasing YYH on season box sets this year, and with a quick dub could probably spit this back onto DVD shelves by Christmas or Valentines Day 2010 if they are quick. Hardcore otaku's just care about the Japanese tract, though, and likely wouldn't double dip.

I also just watched THE PROFESSIONAL: GOLGO 13 on my Urban Vision DVD, which I had to wait a month for. It's an 80's classic theatrical anime motion picture and one of my favorites. It has shown a bit of age nowadays, but should play well to the SIN CITY audience. The U.V. DVD has a short (and rambling) "interview" with one of the original producers, which was nice. The box insert breathlessly claims that this film was so good that it inspired the sequel, QUEEN BEE (which URBAN VISION also dubbed and released). While BEE is also good, I kind of rolled my eyes considering that the gap between THE PROFESSIONAL and QUEEN BEE in the anime world is a "mere" fifteen years, give or take.

Watched the "sequel" to THE PROFESSIONAL: GOLGO 13 (that only took 15 years to be made in Japan), the hour long OAV GOLGO 13: QUEEN BEE that was dubbed by Urban Vision in 1998. It isn't as good, or as long, as 1983's THE PROFESSIONAL, but benefits from much better animation as well as the same set of producers/directors, to maintain the feel of the genre. U.V.'s dub is pretty good, and actually features some currently notable names in the voice acting biz, including:
John DiMaggio as the title hitman, Golgo 13 (as well as his "Informant"), who of course has gone on to voice Bender on FUTURAMA as well as a few characters on SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN among other projects
Denise Poirier, the original voice of MTV's AEON FLUX as the title "Queen Bee" woman, Sonia
And Scott Menville, better known as Robin from TEEN TITANS and Ma-Ti from CAPTAIN PLANET with an "Additional Voices" credit.

CYBERNETICS GUARDIAN: Or "Cyguard" in Japanese, it's one of those 45 minute OAV's that were popular in the 1980's into the mid 1990's in Japan; in this feature's case, 1989. It was dubbed by the now defunct Central Park Media/U.S. Manga Corps in 1996, and released on DVD in 1999. And boy, does the menu design and plastic DVD box scream of something from 1999, when DVD's were still a novelty and no one was 100% sure if it would completely overthrow VHS, and if so, when (anime by and large ditched VHS collectively by 2002-2003, with mainstream Hollywood waiting until about 2006 to do so). This is one of those features that I bought on VHS in high school during the period where I bought anime that appealed to my tastes on the cover or back-box info, but I had no means of accessing review sites back then. I considered it "good enough to keep", as in, good enough to not bother trying to sell to a local video store or comic joint for $2-$5. I only upgraded to DVD for it because it was on sale online for $6. For $6, it is fine.

The cover boldly attributing the director of this feature to such classics as M.D. GIEST and GENOCYBER, this is essentially "the Hulk as a horror mecha" cartoon. In 2019, technology reaches the point that apparently the future will be built in "cities of Cyber-Wood", while the poor slum areas are called Cancer and scientists, police, and some politicians just want to bulldoze them en masse to eliminate crime. Enter into this drama mild mannered scientist John Stalker (great name), who's dating a co-scientist Leila and has a rival in Adler, who wants to sabotage their mech-armor project so he can push his own, death-machine-into-Cancer project. During the test, Adler rigs it so John dies, but when an ancient cult gets in the way, John is instead saved and merged with one of their massive cyber armor gods, Saldo, to unleash rampaging destruction on the world. Can John recover his facilities in time to fully control the monster he has become to save his love from the evil Adler? What do YOU think?

The animation budget was quite high for 1989, what with the overly detailed models of a lot of the cyber-warriors and whatnot. The director claimed to want to mix mecha elements with monster movies like KING KONG and FRANKENSTEIN, but I did find elements of the Hulk in it as well. Of course, the Hulk himself traces inspiration from such monster films, too. It's not high art, and laughably tries to build up a sequel for the ending, but for $6 it is a fun little actioner for less than an hour. ADV has decided to "rescue" some of CPM's library, so I am curious if this is due for a re-release. If so, I am glad I got this while it was cheap and worth my time. For $14, it's not worth it.

Last weekend, I watched both Samurai X OVAs for the first time in about 6 years. Trust and Betrayal was really damn good. Reflection...not so much. But the ending was so epic, I loved it.

The animation was excellent. I remember not liking it, or the extremely graphic violence, the first time I saw it because of how different it was from the TV series. But I really appreciated it more this time around. And God, the music! Just incredible stuff. I can't stop listening to "In Memories."

The dub was awful though. I am by no means an anime purist, and usually prefer dubbed over subbed, but this was just terrible. Hopefully, someday Funimation or some group equally competent will get the chance to re-dub this and do it justice.

I recall the dubbing rights to SAMURAI X/KENSHIN were a bit sordid. I think that AnimeWorks dubbed the TV series, and ADV dubbed the OAV's. ADV sold a few titles to FUNimation to distribute (like 2005 GUYVER), and I'm not sure if SAMURAI X was one of 'em.

I frankly wish FUNimation is willing or able to land the rights for the YU YU HAKUSHO motion picture from Central Park Media, now that it's belly up. ADV scored some of their titles, but FUNimation has the TV series that it just re-released, so it'd be only fair. CPM already did the translations and they'd only need to recast the "regular" characters, that's maybe 6 or so characters. Manga Entertainment did something like that when they acquired the rights to the first GUYVER series from L.A. HERO in the mid 90's, recast and redubbed some parts, but not others.

But now I'm babbling.

Turn A Gundam episode 50....excellent series.

I don't know....I went into the series thinking I'd like it, but didn't expect it to be one of my all time favorite Gundam series by the end. I don't think it's for every Gundam fan, but I honestly liked the series a lot.

Most Gundam's are filled with anti-war messages and talk about the urge mankind seems to have to fight. However most Gundam's portray this with tragic deaths and endless fighting. This Gundam was able to give the same message, but in an entirely different way. There was still giant mech fights, but, not really sure how to put it, it was just different.

The ending has to be the happiest Tomino (think that's his name) Gundam ending period lol (well except for one character). I think I'd put the original Gundam as my favorite, followed by this and Zeta as my 3 favorite Gundam series. I eventually want to watch all the Gundam series, now to decide which to watch next, I hear War in the pocket is good.

CYBER CITY ODEO 808: Episodes 1-3. I probably talked about this one before, but I just upgraded to DVD, catching one of the defunct Central Park Media releases that is now out of print, at least for the present, for about $8. Which for three 40-50 minute episodes, is a steal. Done by the same director behind NINJA SCROLL, VAMPIRE HUNTER D: BLOODLUST, DEMON CITY SHINJUKU, and X: THE TV SERIES and animated by Mad-House in 1991-1993, it was dubbed by Manga Entertainment in 1994 and then apparently released and subtitled by CPM in 1995 on VHS. And you can tell it is a Manga dub; a lot of cussin'. They were notorious for that in the 90's.

Aside for that, CPM released it on DVD twice, and this is the second release in 2004, called CYBER CITY: THE FINAL COLLECTION. Hmm, do you think they were hinting about going out of business or at least sticking this title on the shelf at the printer? "Final Collection"? How ominous. It has all three episodes, totaling about two and a half hours of anime, on one disc with two director's commentaries, which isn't bad at all, especially for $8.

This was one of those series that was common in the late 80's to early 90's that they just don't make anymore. Short OAV with terrific animation that was both fluid and extremely detailed. It's cyberpunk set in the year 2808 with three bizarre criminals, Songoku (the loudmouth), Benten (the girly looking one) and Goggles (although the dub pronounces it, "Go-Ghoul") with life sentences of over 300 years for various crimes being offered to do dangerous jobs for the Cyber-Police to work off their sentences at a measly rate of about 2-4 years per collar (assuming they follow every rule and order to a T, even ones that are counter-productive to a case). The catch is their boss has collars around their necks that will explode and kill them if they get out of line or fail a mission within a set number of hours. Yeah, it's cyberpunk meets ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK. The OAV series really has no set storyline, it just follows three cases from the perspectives of each character. On the upside, that means you can essentially watch them in any order, or at least the last two in any order (the first sets up the premise). On the downside, the end is just the story stopping, and some may feel unsatisfied. Not me, though. It's an enjoyable ride.

The first chapter is Songoku's, setting up the premise and an adventure where he has to free a massive 800+ story skyscraper from the clutches of a cyber-hacker who has taken the building hostage (included on the elevator is Songoku's girlfriend) and may have access to military weapons, including a satellite laser and all the robotic drones in the building. It leads to a tale of two rival computer techs who created the building and how revenge can last beyond death, even in cyber-space. While all three characters curse like sailors in the dub, Songoku takes the slur cake. Apparently in the year 2808, "s***-witz" will be a common insult for punkers. Songoku's speciality is guns and offbeat tactics.

Goggles probably has the best story in the middle of the "trilogy", even if it is the simplest. He's on the case of some stolen government computer data, which leads to Odeo's military conducting some semi-legal experimentation to create the ultimate crime-fighting weapon, a "Psychic Cyborg" basically, named Molocos. Once Goggles gets involved with it, as well as his ex-hacker in crime Sarah, he's forced into a showdown with the creation by both the bad guys and his boss, who is trying to save his own job. Goggles kind of looks like Bebop's human form from TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES but is a pretty cool character. The showdown between him and Molocos is pretty exciting, even if the ending is a little convenient. Goggles is a hacker but pretty good at gunplay and martial arts, too. One of his punches is almost ripped off from Ryu.

The final episode is Benten, the man who dresses like a girl, which means he's very powerful (it is anime, after all). He uses these weird wires that can slice through limbs like nothing. His case involves an ancient businessman who was leading a lot of black market genetic researchers in a quest for immortality, which resulted in being able to literally turn people into vampires. The test subject was a sympathetic girl from 500 years prior, but the final battle aboard a space station is pretty cool. That's right, a battle against a vampire in space.

The animation quality is of near theatrical quality for 1991-1993 and holds up very well today, having a level of detail and texture that a lot of features nowadays don't have. It's a short series I usually enjoy revisiting, and am glad I didn't wait too long to upgrade.

SHINESMAN: Or "SPECIAL COMBAT DUTY UNIT SHINESMAN", a 2 episode OAV released in 1996 in Japan and dubbed by AnimeWorks in 1998 and put on VHS and probably DVD not soon after. It was another title I was "upgrading" from VHS to DVD for, especially as it was about $7 online. The manga runs about 9 volumes, and it is a bit of a shame it didn't prove more popular in Japan, because two episodes does almost seem like a shame. Still, the episodes don't really end on a cliffhanger or anything, just the end of story.

This is one of the rare titles that even otaku's usually claim is more enjoyable in English than in the original Japanese. AnimeWorks has often done some good work on semi-comedic works like this; their other dub for a series that is highly acclaimed is VIRTUA FIGHTER, which is also mostly focused on comedy. Everyone voices their character with the sort of spunky relish that the franchise desires, since it is essentially a spoof of "sentai" shows that are popular in Japan, with POWER RANGERS being the one Americans know best (to a lessor degree, of course, MASKED/KAMEN RIDER, BEETLE BORGS, and for the ancient, V.R. TROOPERS). The show even has a "spoof within a spoof", as while the Shinesmen are the "real" heroes of the series, there are a fictional team of TV "sentai" named "The Greatmen" and the action of the series mostly takes place in their theme park, "G-Park". If the dub has any problems, it is that some of the jokes rely on what was then popular culture in America, which only now seems to date it. They're rare, but this includes one line per episode where someone says that something "is tha bomb". There is a reference to "The artist formerly known as Prince" (he has long since renamed himself Prince) and even a SOUTH PARK reference, albeit from within the first 1-3 seasons when killing Kenny was a running gag. While they're not deal breakers, every time I hear one of those lines, it reminds me that this was dubbed 11 years ago, when you had to pay for the Internet by the hour, Bill Clinton was in the middle of his second term, BLADE was trying to revive superhero films from the death-blow of BATMAN AND ROBIN, and I was at the midpoint of high school. Ah, memories...

Aside for that, though, this a hilarious little anime title that sometimes goes underappreciated. The animation is standard for 1996 and the action mostly relies on still images, but that's not the point of the series. The point is on some cute satire and comedy, and the dub enhances that effect. The only bit of angst is a subplot where the brother of a supporting character turns out to actually be the main villain's right-hand-man, and while that angst clashes with the rest of the series for the 5-10 minutes it comes up, it also isn't a deal breaker.

There are many amusing moments, such as when the alien Princess Sheena arrives in the middle of a city and summons a monster, and rather than be scared, pedestrians all think it is an anime store promotion and applaud. Or the simply hilarious reasons why the Shinesmen "must" survive said monster's tentacles later on. Terrible "named" weapon attacks. And of course there are those terrible colors the Shinesmen have, including "Salmon Pink", "Moss Green", and of course, "Sepia". The dub just makes it a lot more fun. Shinesman Red is the predictable leader and main character (the series even mentions this specifically as a trend in sentai shows), but for my money Shinesman Gray is my favorite.

"I like my color. It's a regal, manly color!"

It's one of those early release DVD's, since the only extras are basically a sketch gallery of manga covers.

METAL SKIN PANIC MADOX-01: Now we're delving into old school. An anime OAV in 1987 (they were popular in Japan for about a decade from the mid 80's to the mid 90's, a lot of 45-60 minute OAV's came out in that time, nearly half of them seemingly licensed by Manga Entertainment or Central Park Media, it seems), it was originally subtitled and released on VHS by AnimEigo in 1989. Not only was it AnimEigo's first licensed anime release, in 1989 it would have been one of the first officially sanctioned anime titles in the home video market, beyond a few that Disney had dubbed, and of course AKIRA, which was big that year. Once the whole "anime market thing" turned out to actually bring some profits, an English dub was recorded for a 1995 re-release on VHS. In 2003, a special edition 15th Year anniversary edition was put out by AnimEigo, which is still in print (albeit offered on their website now for about $8, as with many of their one shot anime titles left in stock, like RIDING BEAN).

The story is a comedy-adventure that pokes some fun at the "mecha" genre, although the ending gets a bit more serious and has probably been long since outdone by other, longer shows (this was a 50 minute OAV). The latest in then modern technology is created, the Madox-01 battle-armor, invented by Kusomuto Ellie in a joint contract between the Japanese and American military (seemingly). In a field test she overwhelms tank pilot Lt. Kilgore, and if the fact that he has the word "kill" in his name isn't an indication that he is the baddie, nothing will. Humiliated by being outdone by a woman as well as with a weapon that makes his tank obsolete, he vows vengeance against the machine. Thankfully for him but tragically for Tokyo engineering student and part time mechanic Kouji, the MADOX-01 is lost by the military in a random traffic accident along the highway and the battle mech literally lands in his work-space. The hapless kid ends up trapped inside the mech and has to fight for his life against the military, Ellie in an earlier prototype mech, and ultimately the battle-paint clad Kilgore. All while trying to make a date with his girlfriend, who has threatened to leave Tokyo for school in England for three years.

The animation is good for 1987 but by 2009 shows quite a bit of age, although ironically the animation for the detailed machines and mech armors is probably better than for the actual characters. There's little blood but some implied deaths in explosions and some bikinni bits that elevates stuff to about PG-13 level. Still, modern animation usually doesn't try to render as complex mech designs as this does, and some of the camera angles are good. AnimEigo usually does a good job in translation and the dub is fine; not the best ever, but serviceable.

Because of it's place in company and American anime selling history, AnimEigo went all out on this disc. Included are interviews with the CEO of the company as well as the ADR of the 1995 dub, a Japanese documentary about some of the military hardware shown in the feature, and even a commentary track with the English dub director and some of the voice actors, including the one who played Lt. Kilgore, Zach Hanner. There is no question that MADOX-01 has a place in American distribution history, but then again so does M.D. GIEST. Granted, this is a better feature than GIEST, although it isn't especially great. It's alright; a fine 50 minute outing, especially for under $10 with shipping and handling. After the first half of the film, the comedy gives way to straight up mech action, which seems a bit jarring. It doesn't flow as well as something like, say, SHINESMAN.

There are references to the film APOCALYPSE NOW inside the film, as well as the Vietnam war. Lt. Kilgore is almost a cliche of what evil, aggressive American military-men are in anime, or can be in some films. Granted, as something from 1987, when this sort of thing was fresher, it works. Not the best thing ever, at least from the perspective of a veteran anime fan watching it in 2009, a good 22 years after it was made, but it has it's moments and is perfectly inoffensive. Not a purchase I regretted at all. The simplicity may be refreshing in a modern anime era of over-the-top angst and series like BLEACH or NARUTO (or DBZ, which made the trend popular) of needing 4-25 episodes to establish even the most mundane of plot points. There's little depth, but in 50 minutes this feature tells a perfectly fine Hollywood style action movie in half the time of many actual Hollywood films, and does it competently.

Ironically, AnimEigo since 2003 especially has become more focused on releasing samurai films and is distancing themselves from anime titles. They haven't really dubbed anything since the mid 90's (their releases are usually translated & subbed and that is it) and quite a few of their titles have gone out of print or been sold off to other small companies like DISCOTEK MEDIA, which got their LUPIN THE THIRD: THE FUMA CONSPIRACY disc. Still, they do have some "big" anime titles still under license: the original A.D. POLICE FILES as well as BUBBLEGUM CRISIS and BUBBLEGUM CRASH (ADV has the rights to the more recent versions), the OH! MY GODDESS OAV series, VAMPIRE PRINCESS MIYU, and URUSEI YATSURA. They just released YAWARA! They seem to focus more on subs than dubbing since the 90's, and the CEO claimed to want his company to be more niche than mainstream. Which is good, since in a market dominated by VIZ, FUNimation and ADV as the biggest dogs left (with ANIME-WORKS as a middle dog, with DISCOTEK MEDIA the runt of the litter), it'd be hard to be a huge anime company. Once the market shifted from big movies to TV series making the bread and butter for an anime company by the turn of the century, a lot of the smaller ones like ANIMEIGO had to readjust.

But enough lecture. MADOX-01 was a bit of a trip into history I didn't expect, but this was a very appealing package. Although a part of me wishes that some better anime films got as much love and care on a disc release as this did from AnimEigo.

One Piece 401, love this series heh.

It's funny how most of the long running animes I watch kinda droop in quality in the center and go filler crazy causing me to temporarily lose interest. One Piece has a goal of hitting 800+ episodes, and the show is still entertaining at episode 401. I actually believe this series will be entertaining all 800 episodes, and there's not too many animes I think personally could sustain a cohesive and entertaining story that long.

First episode of Lucky Star. Please, someone tell me how this is considered great amongst the Otaku and that it will get better? First episode was boring as hell in the fact that half of it was talking about how to eat food. I hope the only reason this did well wasn't because it rode on Haruhi Suzumiya's well-deserved fame. I'm still giving it a chance as after watching Azumanga Daioh for High School comedy, it may have tainted my expectations.

FATAL FURY: LEGEND OF THE HUNGRY WOLF: Now we're going old school, although not as old school as MADOX-01, in my latest quest to "upgrade" some of my anime collection from VHS to DVD. For those not in the know, Fatal Fury was basically SNK's fighting game competition for Street Fighter II in the early 90's. Much as Street Fighter would gain a collection of anime about it (a theatrical movie, two or three OAV's, and a 29 episode TV series, all of which are separate canon), when Fatal Fury was still "hot" in the early-mid 90's, it got some anime too. And honestly, it was better than most of the games.

This is the first of the "series", two OAV's and a motion picture, made in 1992 in Japan and dubbed by Viz (the Viz Video) in 1994 by Ocean Group. The character designs as well as production work were done by Masami Obari, and to many, the FATAL FURY franchise was the highlight of his career. At 50 minutes long, it has quite a story to tell. The murder of a father, two brothers going off for a decade before competing to learn a special "finishing move" to avenge said father against villain Geese Howard, star crossed lovers, and even a tournament.

I have a lot of nostalgia for the FATAL FURY anime. Not only does it stand up against more other fighting game anime in terms of character development, but in junior high when I was just getting into anime, this was probably my first "series", as in it was more than two OAV's long (longer than Manga Video's DEVILMAN). This was a humble beginning and the worst of the trilogy; which is alright, better to start off weak and get better, than vise versa. The story is a bit cliche by martial arts standards, the animation for 1992 isn't exceptional (not bad, not the best, middle of the road), and it crams in a lot of story for 50 minutes. A modern day TV series would devote at least 10-20 episodes for the amount of ground this disc provides. You're introduced to star Terry Bogard as well as his brother Andy, Joe Higashi, their mentor Tung, the doomed Lily, and bad guy Geese Howard, who is kind of like the Kingpin crossed with a monk, and laughs about as often as M. Bison. OCEAN SQUAD does a good job of the dub, as usual. Catch some of Jason Gray Stamford's voice-work before he became a regular on MONK.

In some ways it is a shame this OAV isn't better, since the subsequent sequels would expand upon the storyline. Terry's romance with Lily is uber short for how special it is supposed to be, for instance. Mai isn't introduced yet, to the disappointment of "jiggle" fans. It would only get better from here, though.

FATAL FURY 2: THE NEW BATTLE: Sequel to the above TV special (not OAV, whoops) above in 1993, this time Terry Bogard and his chums run across a new warrior, Wolfgang Krauser, who is far more dangerous than Geese Howard was. It is with this special that Obari and company really started to deviate from the SNK games and do more of their own story. Krauser is completely redesigned from the second FATAL FURY video game and given more flair; Paul Dobson from the OCEAN GROUP dub basically uses the voice he would later use for Dr. Doom in FANTASTIC FOUR: WGH with Krauser. It's been a year since the fall of Geese and Terry has settled into a life of construction work and occasionally helping out poor urban kids. When he's completely humilated and defeated by Krauser in a fight, he loses his will to live and falls into alcoholism until the faith of a kid, Tony, inspires him for a rematch. It is a bit heavy handed but STREET FIGHTER ALPHA: THE MOVIE about 5-6 years later would have a subplot with Ryu that was similar and executed worse, and to be fair ROCKY III had a little of that with Clubber Lang. Mai is introduced this time and leads to a hilarious "match" between Andy and Laurance Blood. The story's simple but better than the last TV special, and leads to the superior motion picture of the next year. The animation's a little better and it's longer.

It introduces the subplot with Terry being able to "talk" with ghosts of dead people in his life. One bit where he is talking to the spirit of the murdered Lily and then Master Tung's ghost pops in out of nowhere is unintentionally hilarious. And you thought Dead Jedi BBQ's got crowded.

The nostalgia trip should conclude tonight with the last of the trilogy.

FATAL FURY: THE MOTION PICTURE: The final part of the anime/Masami Obari trilogy, this time he not only did the character designs, but directed the entire picture. Debuting in 1994 and I think being dubbed around 1994-1995 by Viz in the states, it takes place after FATAL FURY 2, but the actual canonical timeline is fuzzy; some parts act like it was a year after Terry beat Krauser, but another another point they claim it was "about a year" after Lily McGuire was killed in LEGEND OF THE HUNGRY WOLF. Issue with translation? At any rate, it's the longest and best of the Fatal Fury anime by most standards. It's a theatrical movie so the animation quality is the best. It's longer and has a lot more storyline. It mostly focuses on Terry and his relationship with Sulia, the "Mary Sue" of the plot, but also spends a bit of time on Andy and Mai. Joe Higashi is there for comic relief more so than in the last two specials, which works. Someone has to be.

Looking back and watching it with my modern perspective, the plot almost seems akin to an INDIANA JONES movie. Sulia's twin brother Laocorn is collecting 6 pieces of magical armor from Alexander the Great's time that all give him incredible power, the "Armor of Mars". Each one makes him more godlike and more crazy. He has a trio of minions or "sub-bosses" much like Bison usually hung around Sagat, Vega, and Balrog (Jamin, Hauer, and Panni respectively). They just exist for fight scenes. The real meat of the piece is Andy and Mai making the full leap to lovers, and Terry trying to get over his mourning the dead Lily to bond with Sulia. For a fighting game anime, there is a lot of pathos and tragedy to it. The ending is very somber; not nearly as upbeat as the endings to some other fighting game anime. If you though STREET FIGHTER ALPHA: GENERATIONS was the first fighting game anime to try being moody and emotional, this flick did it about a decade sooner.

Ocean Group as usual does a solid job, although the actress for Mai is recast from FATAL FURY 2. The actress for this film is better for the drama, but isn't as good with the lighter, funnier moments. Beyond that it is a solid dub, with Mark Hildreth giving it his all as Terry. He currently voices Quicksilver in WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN, and is doing a solid job there, too. Matt Hill, the "surfer voice" of Captain N (from CAPTAIN N: THE GAME MASTER, natch), plays the villain Laocorn, and it's an interesting bit of casting; he rarely plays villains.

There are some animation hiccups, especially one scene at the beginning and one towards the end where the animation looks quite blah. Most of the budget is saved for the final climatic battle, and even by today's standards that battle looks great. Virtually every living fighter from the last two specials makes a cameo (besides boxer Axel Hawk) and one or two fighters who didn't pop in before but were from the original Fatal Fury game make cameos, like Duck King. SNK and NEO-GEO also plaster their logo in some spots. It is surreal seeing a scene where Terry Bogard himself is apparently playing FATAL FURY at an arcade.

Unlike my import disc of the last two specials, this is the domestic Region 1 DVD from eBay and I liked after the credits how they obviously changed the text to real about playing the video games "on home systems and arcades", while by dub from the 1995 VHS encourages people to play on "Sega CD". Oh, the follies of the mid 90's.

Great to finally own this for DVD.

I think Fatal Fury 2 took place right after Fatal Fury one (no more than a month couple have separated the events considering Krauser was looking for Geese after his defeat to find him still injured) so that would make sense.

Oh well, I think the last anime I watched was the Urusei Yatsura TV series. It's okay for an 80's Rumiko Takahashi based series. It's hard for me to stay interested when each episode has its own storyline. I prefer extended story arcs.

Trigun is awesome. I'm just happy, and I'm not sure if you up to that point yet, where they ease off the comedy a bit. There's still quite a bit of humor involved throughout the series...but they ease off on the humor a bit early on, which I thought was smart.

I don't know the name, but it had rape tentacles.

Sure it wasn't a hentai?

...Actually, come to think of it, this describes a lot of "clean" anime, too.

TRIGUN: Episodes 1-8. I lived under a rock and missed the bandwagon in the 90's (in 1998, the three "main" anime series were this, COWBOY BEBOP and to a lesser degree, OUTLAW STAR), so I am finally giving this series a proper go. Pretty good so far, not the best but certainly fun and action packed, with a solid dub. I naturally expect things to get more intense around the middle.

Trigun is pretty good. It felt a little overly dramatic towards the end, but as a whole, it's satisfying. I hear the manga's different due to time constraints between the two productions; one day, I'd like to check out in what ways.

Started watching The End of Evangelion and stopped. Also started watching Digimon: Data Squad and stopped. I've gotta find something that doesn't put me off 5 minutes into it. :csad:

Code Geass, just finished it. I'm glad I went ahead and watched it, it really did get better as it went on. I saw the ending coming a mile away, but it was still a good ending. Even when the show became weird it explained itself satisfactory enough. There were also some nice suprises and twists in the show. I'd recommend giving it a shot to anyone who hasn't watched it, just 50 episodes broken up in 2 seasons.

Taniguchi's face upon seeing Mikuru cosplaying is the funniest thing I've seen in a long time. :lmao:
Haruhi-chan can be a pain the ass, but when she's nice, boy is she a sweetheart.
Speaking of Haruhi, while her vocal skills are no match for Aya Hirano's, Wendee Lee, or Michelle Ruff (based on a comment I saw elsewhere), sang very well. So not only is the dub pretty damn good, but the dub singer is actually very easy on the ears. Bravo Haruhi dubbers :applaud !

TRIGUN episodes 12-18. It's been an entertaining ride, but the story really picked up around episode 14. I was a little annoyed at episode 13, which is mostly a clip episode; I don't think a 26 episode series needed a clip episode. I also am bemused that everyone is surprised that someone named "Knives" would turn out to be wicked. That's like Mr. Fantastic not figuring that his old college bud "Mister Doom" would turn out not right. But at any rate, it's pulling me in, now to see if the ending will be worth it.

The irony is the ADV box covers used to brag about the title being "ultra violent" and while it may have some more gore than some shows within the past few years, to me it isn't anything beyond a PG-13. Heck, the one scene of female nudity involving tentacles that made it into the prior OAV series and is in the manga was mostly "cleaned up". Not that it's a big deal, just I saw the newer GUYVER as sometimes reflecting the times it was made in. The original GUYVER anime came out in the late 80's - early 90's when gore and female nudity were more common in anime, so it was even gorier than the anime. Some 13 years later, though, and most mainstream anime by and large is a bit tamer. Granted, of course, 2005 GUYVER was a TV show and naturally had to meet some standard of network thing in Japan, while the original anime were OAV's. As a GUYVER fan, I enjoyed the new version. What was lost in some gore or iconic music was made up with in a better storyline and far more fleshed characters. That's what counts, anyway.

I watched TRIGUN episodes 19-26, essentially finishing it. Overall, while there were a few elements of the show's basic logic and message that I took some question to, it is a good series, worthy of the praise. To this day, the anime I watched that I felt was the most overrated was the original HELLSING.

TRIGUN in theory is about a mysterious gunman named Vash the Stampede who is so dangerous to his desert Western style planet that he has a bounty on his head of $60 billion dollars. In his travels he runs across various villains and allies, most notably Meryl and Millie, and of course Wolfwood with his "cross of mercy". An early staple of Adult Swim in the late 90's - early 2000's, it got a lot of attention years ago. It's about a bit more than that and intertwines morality with sci-fi stuff. The first dozen episodes or so focus more on comedy, and while there are always amusing bits, the tone gets more serious later on. There is one clip episode and some generous "flashback" bits done later one, which sometimes can seem like a way to shave some animation per episode. It's nowhere near as blatant at that NARUTO, though.

The major problem I had with it in general was the theory of "moral equivalence", i.e. someone who kills a killer is no better than the killer himself.

That, and there was the idea that if Vash had, ahem, "learned the lesson" from the final episode sooner, more people would have been alive. But I digress. At any rate, TRIGUN is a comedy/action anime that does have deep themes to it and at least inspires thought and debate, whether you agree with all of the preached themes or not. And that's what separates the good from the mundane. Vash the Stampede easily goes down as one of the more tragic and enjoyable heroes in anime lore.

Last Sunday I watched the newest FMA Brotherhood, Mustang is just on a whole new level of epic than he was in the other anime lol. The animation in this episode was top notch, and it didn't go where I thought it'd go from my impressions from the episode before it (which was good for me).

More recently, Bleach and Hayate no Gotoku. Bleach is (IMO) doing the best filler it's done yet atm, I'm really liking the Shinigami fighting their own Zanpakto spirits. It's an interesting angle seeing heroes fight the source of their power, interested in seeing how it turns out, and especially interested to see if Kenpachi shows up considering the mystery around his Zanpakto.

Hayate no Gotoku...it's not bad. I was searching google for new good animes in 2009 and this kept surfacing. It's got the same feeling as Lucky Star (lots of anime references and bleeping out anime names, ppl dressing as anime characters, etc.), but instead of being a slice of life high school girl story it's a fighting buttler.

Btw with you guys mentioning Case Closed, I've been tempted many times to pick the series back up, is it worth it? I used to watch the dub on Adult Swim, and I really did like it. At some point they stopped airing it tho. I looked up awhile after that and it was at some staggering amount of episodes (which is an obsticle that I have trouble overcoming in coming into an anime as it'll take FOREVER to catch up....tho in One Piece's case it was WELL worth it).

Anyway, Bleach is what I watched last. I don't get how ppl can complain about more Bleach filler, Bleach is absolutely on fire atm. Loving the filler, by far the best filler Bleach has done yet. I'm actually looking forward to Bleach again rather than just watching, it's right up there for FMA Brotherhood and One Piece for me atm. Now if only Naruto could interest me enough to watch the anime again (still read the manga), haven't watch it in about 3 months.

Zero no Tsukaima. I was looking for a comedy harem anime to watch (just felt in the mood for one) and this animes name popped up a few times, add on that there are only 3 seasons with 13 episodes each (which at the time was a plus, in case I didn't like it I didn't want to get sucked into a never ending anime).

So far I like it tho, I'm on season 2 now. This will sound odd, but it's Harry Potter meets Tenchi in a sense. A normal guy from modern Japan gets sucked into a world with magic when this girl tries to summon her familiar. He gets treated like a pet rather than a guy because he's seen as a familiar, and as a commoner (he's in a school of noble mages). Comedy, and harem hijinks ensue.

I think the main drawback was the main heroine being TOO much of a *****. I mean she actually buys a horse whip and beats the main character when he looks at another girls breasts or whatever. They try to do it comedically...but still lol.

USHIO AND TORA: Bought and watched, and probably posted about this, several years ago, but finally gave it a second viewing. This is in many ways similar to TENCHI MUYO and even INU YASHA, only far shorter and far, far, FAR less romantic. And it technically pre-dates YASHA by about a year. It's about a teenage boy named Ushio, who lives at a temple and has to deal with a food-swiping father who seems to always be out on vacation. He naturally never believes the old man's stories about demons until he finds one, Tora, in his basement. Tora's been trapped there for 500 years since being impaled by Ushio's ancestor against a rock and with a mystical weapon, "The Beast Spear". It basically grants the user super strength, speed, durability, and SUPER bushy hair. As well as "talks" to the user and does other plot convenient things.

Unlike TENCHI or YASHA, once Tora is freed by Ushio, things aren't all lovey dovey. Tora often wants to eat Ushio, and Ushio usually sees Tora as a monster. They ultimately become friends, albeit very reluctantly and always with some mutual hostility. Like TENCHI, at least two girls have the hots for Ushio, the tomboy Asako and the gentle Mayuko. In quick succession Ushio & Tora have to fend off a variety of demons and monsters of the week in 10 episodes. The first four wrap up things in a half hour, while the last six take on a 2-part format that allows the stories more time to breathe. The series may repel some with the gore, but it is often quite entertaining.

ADV released this series on VHS in 1997 and on DVD in 2003; it was out of print for a few years before a re-release more recently before ADV seemingly suspended operations. The series was animated in 1992-1993 and the animation shows it's age. It's better than some TV animation of the era but not all of it. There is little repeat animation overall, however, and the battles are often fluid. On VHS this would have been five tapes at some $100; ridiculous. On DVD, it usually goes for about $30, and for that price it's more than reasonable. The ADV dub is quite energetic and entertaining, with excellent performances, especially by Brett Weaver, who voices Tora (more recently, he plays the dubbed version of Mr. 1/Daz Bones on ONE PIECE). The often graphic violence sometimes clashes with the usual comedy, but it seems to work in an odd and unique way. Call it a demonic buddy-cop series.

At 10 episodes, the series has some character development, although not to an extensive degree. It doesn't end on a cliffhanger, but it is essentially open ended; the story simply ends after one adventure. About half of the "monsters" they battle are not essentially evil and often do have reasonable motives for their attacks; episode 3 even sees the duo take on an obsessive "monster hunter", Hyou. Ushio has some fun antics but Tora easily steals the show overall. The pair are a functional team when they're not bickering! Every character gets development and is well fleshed within the 10 episodes.

There is also a "comically deformed" episode that isn't terribly canonical but features the entire cast in "chibi" form with a focus on comedy and music videos. This is included as an "extra" on the box set and is fun for a lark, especially to boost the mood from the finale. The 2003 box set also had ADR OUTTAKES of the English voice cast either flubbing lines or getting in some amusing ad libs; a rare extra for anime DVD's.

A forgotten series, but a brief and enjoyable one.

Kanon 2006. Just finished it.

Got much more out of this series than I expected. For some reason I thought it'd be a comedy. It's really well done tho, and apparently based on a novel . The story is good, but has a somewhat slow pace. It has a few weird moments, but they work in the given setting. It also had plenty sad moments as well, and had a more realistic "real world" feeling than a lot animes I've seen with a high school setting. The ending ended well tho IMO.

It's only 24 episodes long. I'd recommend it if you're not looking for an anime where **** blows up, and fan service abounds.

As for a downside...the art. It's actually good, except for the girls. You get used to it, but the eyes are too big making most girls look the same facial structure wise. Meanwhile the guys are much more realistic.

Kara no Kyoukai (The Garden of Sinners) Episodes 1 -6

It's in OVA format, so each episode is about an hour long, though episode 5 was close to over two hours. It's yet to be lincensed in America, so you have to watch it subbed if that matters to you. Amazing animation quality, and the story jumps around in the timeline to keep you hooked and wandering how each thing came to pass. Thus it makes explaining the story a hazard of giving away it's details.
It is pretty graphic at times with the blood and gore, but overall I thoroughly enjoyed it.

DEMON CITY SHINJUKU: Another old school title, last released on DVD in 2003 (and in 1999) along with the dubbed VHS in 1995 by Central Park Media. This is a Madhouse OVA from 1988, written and directed by the same team behind WICKED CITY, VAMPIRE HUNTER D, and NINJA SCROLL. Some 21 years later, the story probably comes off as contrived and even a bit hokey or convenient at times, but for the end of the 80's into the 90's, it was a prime example of urban horror anime. There's no chibi action or comedic interludes here. It's not about a few demon girls wanting to sleep with a nerd. It's about demons taking over Shinjuku, a major Japanese city, and then plotting the end of the world a decade later. Apparently the film is set in the year 2000 (with a flashback set in 1990) and naturally some things won't match up to what really is or was, but in the English dub years aren't really given. This has been out of print for a few years, but I scored a copy from the U.K. recently. It's one of my favorites.

The story is a bit typical one supposes. A young hero training in kendo combined with psychic chi powers is met by a young woman with an incredible adventure assigned to him. At first he refuses his destiny to save the world but ultimately dives head-first into it. The pair are eventually joined by a weird pretty-boy sorcerer and a foul mouthed midget kid with speedy electronic skates and grenades. They do battle against the demons of Shinjuku and eventually against the demonically possessed sorcerer who summoned them and wants to destroy the world. Maybe it's DOOMED MEGALOPOLIS in only 82 minutes.

The animation is quite impressive; even over 20 years later, it holds up in both detail and fluid motion. While an OAV, it easily could have been of theatrical quality. The fight scenes are stylized and while the final battle is almost anti-climatically quick, there are a few notable sequences. The music is memorable. The dub by U.K. based Manga Video is typical of their dubs of the early 90's; full of curses with some overly stereotyped accents. The heroine Sayaka has a British accent but the street punk Chibi sounds Mexican, with the hero Kyoya having a mouth flighty enough to make a sailor blush. It's the sort of dialogue that anime companies some 15 years ago liked to promote anime as "not for kids" and I ate it up as a teenager myself, but as a 27 year old it sometimes seems needless for a cartoon that might otherwise be a hard PG-13 to make it to R just for endless F words. On the other hand, some could call it "realistic". It depends. I might have told some ancient master to "Go **** yourself, old man" if he tasked me at random to save the world when I was 18, too. There also is always an appropriate mood of horror in between the action.

The writing is what you'd expect, nothing classic but not bad. There are some awkward moments of exposition from some characters, but it all wraps up well in 82 minutes.

Maybe in 2009 it wouldn't seem like much, but in 1988 or even in 1995 this would have been quite cool, and a lot of it still holds up. Personally it's probably a stronger work than CYBER CITY ODEO, which this same crew also did. I also probably preferred this to WICKED CITY or VAMPIRE HUNTER D (which I always found overrated). There was astonishingly even a table top RPG made for this in '99 by the same crew who wrote the anime tabletop RPG source-book BIG EYES, SMALL MOUTH. The charm in this perhaps is in the execution and even the simplicity, and it's still a title I enjoy watching.

Full Metal Panic, just finished all 3 seasons...is this a joke?

See, awhile back I tried to watch it and couldn't get into it, but convinced myself I WOULD watch it since the series is fairly well liked, I figured I was missing something. I finally figured out what the bump I couldn't get over the first time was, Chidori. She just fell for Sousuke too fast near the end of the first arc...however when I kept watching I realized they were intent on stringing it along so I got over it. Her personality...still annoying but other things in the anime made up for it.

So, I'm finally starting to get into the series at the end of the second season. It's got good action, it's doing the comedy more sparingly and in the right spots. Tessa got more airtime as Chidori got slightly less. Then...Fummoffu....really, was that a joke?

Good second season ends, and with a cliffhanger new villain. What do they do? Turn it into a full on comedy, replace giant mechs with teddy bear mechs (no joke), take away all serious moments, then end the series with the main character being chased by a mob after doing something he wouldn't have done at his most retarded of moments at the start of the series (not counting his character regressed after all of his character development).

Ugh...awful. I'd say give it a go if you only intend on watching the 2 seasons, because despite the cliffhanger...the 3rd season does nothing for all 12 episodes.

Detective Conan.

I used to watch it on Adult Swim, but they stopped around episode 40 or so. Then I saw it was over 400 or 500 episodes, which is kinda overwhelming lol. I've seen a few of you really hype it up tho, and I did like what I see, and do like detective stories, so finally gave it a go. I'm glad I did, enjoying it as much as ever.

The only downside is that I hate the intro and endings, so I try and skip them. Of course the last 20 or so seconds of every episode just have to be after the ending theme song lol, so have to try and guess and sometimes skip too far ahead.

Detective Conan. Haibara Ai was just introduced, and the plot is picking up again. I really like the series and the murder mysteries, but was relieved to see the main plot go somewhere again.

Like 157ish or something.

I watched Monster ep 2 they are airing Dubs on the SciFi channel. I think Gaara's voice is Dr Tenma

I'm pretty sure Fummoffu is supposed to take place between the First and Second Raid. It's the other side of the coin for those who want more of Sousuke's highschool interactions with the comedic twist while the Second Raid is the main story.
The novelization isn't completed yet either, so I'm sure they'll make another anime season when the book is further along.

I just finished Neon Genesis Evangelion....wow. Just wow. Thats neither a complement nor an insult, i simply don't know what to think about this series. I watched both the original and alternate endings to the series and both of them were equally mind-****ing. I 've never watched something so equally depressing and fascinating at the same time (and i watched a LOT of depressing cartoons/movies) . What did everyone else think of this show?

The show was incredible. I was way less enthused about The End of Evangelion movie, but it was pretty good; if nothing else, it was a good companion for the ending of the show. Evangelion is definitely my second favorite anime series, only behind Cowboy Bebop.

still watching bleach on as but it ends in a few weeks with ep 167. so i'm deciding on whether to wait for them to finish dubbing and airing the next arcs (which is several months away) or just go the bt route and watch it subtitled. i do like the english dub better but waiting so long for it to come back...that's a killer.

other than bleach, i'm watching fullmetal alchemist brotherhood, dragon ball kai, hokuto no ken, and inuyasha kanketsuhen.

Detective Conan, almost caught up, only 100 or so to go lol. I just finished with one where you actually get to know the killer off the bat, and you hear her thoughts throughout. It's hilarious because she's bragging she's planned this flawless, and everyone else is stumped thinking it had to be some olympian that threw the body. Then here comes little Conan, suspecting her within a minute of seeing the body, and never takes his focus off of her. Loved all of her, "What is he!?!" comments.

Also nice that the plots moving along a lot more often now. As much as I enjoy the stand alone murder mysteries...with this thing being almost 600 episodes long, I really want to see some serious plot development. This shows really good, but when it hits its mark, whether it be a Kaitou Kid, Black Organisation, or Heiji episode, it's great (tho not Heiji to the extent of the others as he's just a funny Kudo-lite with a Kansai accent and a need to upstage him).

Also watched FMA Brotherhood, shows as good as ever. Of course with all of my trying to catch up on Detective Conana non-stop, I've fallen behind on every other anime lol. Have like 3 episode of One Piece, and 6 of Bleach to go (and I'm really loving those two arcs, so not wanting to neglect them). Naruto I'm like 25 behind, but that's just because I've stopped watching the anime lol.

Such a cute, funny and heartwarming series, and this episode provides closure to Yui's arc, but since the manga's still going on, this better not be the end of the anime! KyoAni, you better greenlight a proper second season :argh: ! And while you're at it, greenlight another one for Lucky Star!

They did kil it a bit, but I find the movies are always good. Right now the show is getting better. Pikachu is putting up a fight. I'm so happy they didn't make him lose to a Staraptor. (Even though I love him.)

I watched Pok'emon.
