gives me great faith. unlike in 2005 with batman, but much like in 1989 with batman, w.b.s smartly utilizing all ends of the character to notonly makemoney, but build awareness, new fans, and hype for thenew movies.

the marketing sounds fantastic
-the trailer comes in may which is the most popular month of the year for movies.
-look upin thesky: the amazingstory ofsuperman :w.b.s making a freaking documentary for this movie to hype it up-i dont think even star wars ever got that!
-unlike batman begins, w.b.s seems to realize the video game could be very profitable and build lots of awareness for the movie
-the toys look great! ya see with batman they never got into the merchandise at all;but the fact that they gave merchandise its own section givesme great faith.
-"major promotional categories signed across a wide range of categories";even batman begins had some goodpartners with delland verizon.i cant wait to see what theyve given superman!!!

the marketing looks to be HUGE in may/june! like ive been saying! nothing nowis good! we want it later!!!!

Exactly! I want WB to go nuts a month before the movie comes out...that's pretty much what Sony did with Spider-man. They started promoting heavy around a month and a half before the movie.

Releasing a trailer in March, even if it made your hair stand, and made you jump for joy, would wear out by June 30th. A trailer in mid-May would still be fresh in the general publics' mind. Remember, that's who they are trying to get; we fans already know about this movie. The general audience has a history of short attention spans and a capacity for forgetfulness.

A kick ass trailer (and tons of merchandise) a month-and-a-half before the movie opens serves two major purposes: Firstly, the general audience will NOT forget about the movie and the hype will still be there! And if the trailer is touted with other big summer movies, the better.

Second, it allows for the WB to save its marketing resources to better educate the general audience, and to keep their attention, via TV spots. We’ll have WAY more T.V. spot than Batman Begins. Remember the 2 weeks before Spider-man came out? You couldn't change the channel without a cool TV spot for the movie. Begins didn't have that luxury, which I think could have helped Begins box office a little. It was too magnificent of a movie not to reach 300-350 million domestically.

I know it sucks, but in the end Superman will benefit, and that's all that matters to me. :)

I have to agree with Superman4ever. Yeah its not till may, but its just March. May comes up quick and things are going to blow up. You have to remember that the returns trailer doesnt premier till may but there is a lot of stuff already coming to light that will get the hype going. Superman in general is being put into the conscience of the public not just returns. It's really a good idea when you think about it....Superman is everywhere and then BAM Superman Returns comes along.

This is so ****ING irritating!!! They keep pushing it back... I thought that when Singer said theatrical trailer in April, that we could count on it, and now it's in May!!! The wait for this thing is a *****!! I think it's a bit late on to debut the trailer.......It had better be worth the wait!.. If they hold back the least with this trailer, It's GOOD NIGHT for that movie! I'm hoping that the reason for the long wait is because they REALLY wanna give us something mind-blowing for the theatrical trailer! That trailer had better be the best damn theatrical EVER...all around!

GREATEST WEBSITE EVER!!!!!

Oh, and on the trailer and poster being released in May, all I have to say about that is that could potentially be the dates for theaters, but did we or did we not get the teaser poster about 2 and a half months before a single one appeared in a cineplex? :D

I would not be a bit surprised if the same happens here. They release the one sheet to the fans way ahead of time, then it starts arriving in theaters in May. And I definitely agree with those saying this is the right way to go with the trailer. You guys have to remember, this movie does come out in June, but the last day of June. It's for all real purposes a July movie. Thus an early to mid May trailer is still a month and a half prior to release.

And as far as publicity goes, this strategy is perfect for the target audience, which isn't just us. The fandom only accounts for atmost 5% of the audience, thus they have to appeal to everyone, not just us. A mid May trailer release would ensure the general audience not get burnt out on it and also allow for them to not reveal more than needed, which would likely happen if they did a third trailer.

This schedule is great! This site is great. Welcome to Supermania my friends.

IT HAS BEGUN!

it looks like the trialer will be at the end of smallville  Well, I haven't heard it mentioned anywhere. Last season's Smallville finale was in mid-May and that's when they hit us with the Batman Begins extended peek. I just looked it up for this season and the finale is set for April 27. We're not going to get it before the theatre trailer comes out. I would imagine WB will still have some first-run programming on in mid-May. Maybe then on some other show. Or the Smallville finale could get pushed back. I just remember after the Batman Begins preview, I couldn't wait to get into the theatre. You think WB would try to capitalize on the cross-promotion. We'll see.

oh well boo hoo. We don't get new footage in April. Big deal. Just means less to know ahead of time before the film. And thank god Warner Brothers isn't thinking of individuals, or even the fan base with this. I'd much rather the film be a success than see new footage in april. There, I said it. Right now, screw us, the fans. We're getting our dream film, even if not everyone agrees. So we have to wait until May to see a trailer. The film itself is only 16 weeks away. We get the movie we've been waiting for in just 3 months and 23 days. Screw the trailer. Bring on the movie.

We know because of how they worded it: "Superman Returns One-Sheet and trailer to debut in May 2006 Blockbuster movies."

Not movie, movies. This would imply it'll play on many many blockbuster films due in May, likely including Mission: Impossible III, X-Men: The Last Stand, Cars, and, since it IS a Warner Brothers movie, Posieden. And since Posieden is the WB movie among those, it's likely to debut it. It's pretty simple really.

lol, dude, there will be a trailer in May, calm down. Besides, even if Singer said April (and I know he did, no need to cite a source) have you seen the movie release schedule for April? do you see a movie they could attach it to? Most can't. So rather than put it out on an innapropriate movie we'll get the trailer in a month thats produced the top grossing films of the year domestically in 4 of the last 7 years. And with 4 major movies that they can and likely will have it playing with in May I don't see cause for complaint.

...i don't know why would they release extended footage more then one month before the premiere. But that's what they did last year w/ BB?

It was a very successful endeavor for both studios as well as both franchises. The announcement of an extended preview for BB was made on April 19th, a month before the SV finale preemed on May 18th. BB unspooled a month later on June 17th.

Today is March 9th. We have almost exactly two months to go before the SV season finale this season. If they follow what they did last year, The WB will announce the inclusion of extended footage for SR in about a month. We'll (probably) know a few weeks earlier if the SV finale itself will be longer. If it's 90 minutes, bet the farm (no pun intended) that Warners will buy the ad space for SR. If the finale is only 60 minutes, all bets are off.

Call it a hunch. ;)

Great presentation - that video was great, showing all the different incarnations of Superman. I am a bit disappointed that they're waiting until May, but I think we'll be seeing a lot of new pictures and other goodies before then to keep the fans satisfied. Putting it with the season finale with SV will only help awareness.

Can't wait to see the new poster - it should be interesting to see how it's designed.

...Putting it with the season finale with SV will only help awareness...Agreed, though I'm sure there's a little trepidation on Warner's end. As many excited fans as there will likely be, you know there will be quite a few confused individuals with "WTF?" 'tudes asking all too familiar questions. I'm still betting dollars to donuts they'll do it, but I'd also bet there's probably still a few hold-outs lobbying for a different show to attach the footage to. Both sides probably have legitimate points to argue.

Anyhoo... two months and counting. ;)

That website is awesome. I have to give WB credit. It really looks like they are treating their properties with a lot of respect and reverence and giving fans the presentation they want. It looks like they are cashing in all of their chips putting out so much material at once and fans are the one that win.
That Superman franchise trailer is incredible.

I just notice something
Last year was THE YEAR OF THE BAT{BATMAN/Bruce Wayne},THIS YEAR THE MAN OF STEEL RETURNS{SUPERMAN/Clark Kent} , Which means next year is The Year of The Amazon Warrior Princess{Wonder Woman/Diana} .

It looks like Warner Bros. are planing to do movies of THE BIG THREE first, BATMAN,SUPERMAN & WONDER WOMAN before they do movies of The rest of them (The Flash,Green Lantern,Aquaman & Martian Manhunter)

setting up the stage for a Justice league movie prehaps ?

A well concieved theory, but sadly unless Joss Whedon or David Goyer actually start moving on their respecitve projects I don't see either Wonder Woman or The Flash making it out in time for 2007. The window of opportunity for next year is closing very very soon.

Wow....nothing gets past you does it?

Maybe its just because the WB is doing the usual mass marketing? I mean just maybe....:o

They did that when the Matrix sequels came out (Animatrix release, the video games, the cross promotion, special edition of the orginal)

Last year was the year of the bat cause Begins was out so they marketed again cause it was there blockbuster

Same this year with Superman

It will be Wonder woman's "Year" when the movie comes out, whether that is next year is trivial.

And no there isnt gonna be a Justice league movie...so calm ya panties

I see everyone's point, and I understand, but if they can get Ocean's 11 (and a sequel to work), then color me optimistic! :)

Why not 3 sequals of all the major players (WW, Batman and Superman) and then a JLA movie with new cast members playing the leads. Most likely Brandon and Christian will be too old to play their respective characters (in 10 years, unless it's a Kingdom Come kind of scenario), and this way thier origins are established, and boom JL! Obviously, I mean for JL to be an "origins of" movie so a 40 year old Batman might not work. Do you see where I'm coming from?

You are definately talking a new cast, and if you are talking a new cast you are talking 15 years down the line. Anything is possible. I think it's more possible to see a Kingdom Superman or a Batman vs Superman storyline.

You are correct. Its like Showtime said as well, the actors now would just be too old then. I would love to see all the members together in one movie going after a huge threat, but we would have to have each one with an origin movie first. And that would take some major time. I'm glad it's not. That's a really horrible design. Also I would really be upset if Matsuda is doing the new Superman show. Aside from a few episodes here and there and The Batman vs Dracula DTV, The Batman really sucks. Thank god that the entire DCAU done by Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, Dwane McDuffe, and others is comming out on DVD at a faster pace. I grew up in the 90's so these shows are a part of my childhood just like Superman III is a part of yours.

Part of mine too! I was 10 when B:TAS came out...I was around five when I saw SIII on video (in '87). :D

Saw the S:TM when I was 3, and was hooked from then on.

I'm glad that fanart wasn't the real deal aswell. I don't think even this Jackie Chan artist would draw Superman as bad. While they have a bunch of screwy concepts for the Bat-villains, Batman himself still looks familiar and not so disproportioned(though his face looks a bit lobsided at times).

I didn't mind having a new cartoon at all. I didn't like the artwork too much myself. If they do go with a new cartoon, I sure hope they don't use that. If they do, I guess I'll have to settle, because I still want to see what the stories are like.

Granted that the art design could be better, I though, at least, that it was only concept, and that it would change, but that we did have a show coming in the fall. Now I get suckered punched, and am told that it's fan-art, and that a show might be in the works. :(

IMO, Superboy will be the sleeper hit in this DVD set.

For those of you who have not seen it this investment is well worth your time.

It may not knock your socks off but the series was pretty awesome. The FX quite good when considering it was a syndicated show on a shoestring budget.

Some of the best Superman stories IMO adapted to live action.

You need to get this. I actually preferred the latter seasons - it got darker and more sci-fi.

But I am times wish Newton had stayed on. look at that face. I don't think, other than Reeve, I have seen an actor with a more Superman-like face.

GC was great though. He looked solid and had the build Newton, obviously, didn't But GC was 31 and playing Superboy so he's filled in.

Worth the price! As I say, this is going to help turn Superboy into a cult classic along the lines of BTVS IMO.
