For all things TAS, pics, memories and so on.
The first time I saw the show Fox ran a sneak peak and it was the RedClaw episode, the two parter featuring Catwoman.
I loved everything about it. At first I was a bit dissapointed the show didn't look just like the comics, but I got used to it. Not that I didn't like the style, I did.
The show is so awesome. I wish it could've gone on forever. I once said I didn't like when the show's style changed but I take all that back, I don't think the WB show looked as good but was still so awesome, especially comapred to the crap on tv nowadays like the new The Batman, which is such an insult to Batman.
I was so happy to see the show had the elfmann theme, not exactly the same as the movie but a new version for the cartoon that stayed true to the movie theme.
I loved how they took the Riddler and gave him real character and the Mr. Freeze origin rocks!

Damn, I love this show SOOOOOO much. It is probabley my favorite incarnation of the Batman character. Paul Dini, Bruce Timm, and co. are geniuses!

The four volumes (which to 109 episodes) cover all of the BTAS. Although Batman Beyond is basically an extension of BTAS. I recommend that you buy the first season of BB March 21st along with the first Season of Justice League.

I have found memories of catching this show after school on Cartoon Network, several years ago. I had to buy the DVD collections (I haven't gotten the 4th one yet though). It'd be pointless to list the things I liked or loved, because that would be pretty much everything. One of the greatest cartoons and TV shows ever. The only thing I sort of disliked was that they didn't exactly cover Batman's origin, while they devoted two episodes to Robin's backstory.
Speaking of origins, the two episodes that show how Dent became Two-Face are some of my favorites. You really feel sorry for him, even before he becomes Two-Face (with his anger problems and so on). Throughout the story, you know what's going to happen, but you keep hoping that it won't. It was all so sad.
I get teary every time Bruce says "then... the nightmare is over", and when, in the next scene, he hugs his dad. For those who don't remember, that's in the episode where the Mad Hatter has Batman caught in a virtual reality... a virutal reality in which his parents are still alive and someone else does the job Bruce did as Batman. One might argue that the Mad Hatter should've just killed Batman (or at least taken off his mask to learn his true identity) and that the episode had too much fantasy/sci-fi, but I liked it.
Another great moment is when Hugo Strange uses his device too visualize Bruce's thoughts. They're talking about the death of his parents and Hugo asks how he felt at the time of that and afterwards, to which Bruce replies "I wanted... revenge!", consequently causing the Bat symbol to appear on the thought-reading device's monitor. Also an episode that many would say had too much sci-fi/fantasy in it. I guess I agree about that (same goes for the Mad Hatter episode mentioned above.)
Well, I don't want to put all my impressions in one gigantic post, so I'll stop here. :)

Last night I watched If you're so smart why aren't you rich, and The Strange Secret of Bruce Wayne.
There are some that really stand out from the series, they are all good but some really stand out.
For me those episodes are...
Two-Face, Robin's Reckoning, Nothing to Fear, The Scarecrow episode when he was betting on the football games at Dick's college 'cause he was using his toxin on the players, the Ra's two parter, ther's just something about the stories and artwork that stands out, that was just a bit better than the rest, just like the first episode with Mr. Freeze, the animation and story in that show was just excellent.
Old villians that didn't have much to them were given great revamps like The Riddler and Freeze.
I was so happy that in the WB version the Penguin went to his classic look. I like the movie incarnation but not near as much as the original.
Speaking of looks, the way some of the characters were done was better than previous looks in the comics etc, in my opinion, the animated Catwoman is my fave look of her, Two-face had a nice style, I once saw a drawing of Face by Timm that had him sitting at a table with a cigarette in his hand, it just looked cool.
It was so nice to see Batman taken seriously and with respect, let alone a cartoon to be done so well.
It was also nice to see real guns, instead of them wussing out and avoiding all that. A few cartoons at the time would use laser guns at times and it didn't work.
It even showed that it could be better than the live action films, Sub zero was way better than Batman and Robin. Ofcourse the best Batman animated movie is MOTP, I just wish I'd seen it at the movies, I regret not going and seeing this great incarnation of the DarkKnight on the big screen. Oh,well.

I tried watching it but, it is unwatchable and an insult to Batman.

What about the DVD's? I think all the seasons are out now, but I remember one that's not in any of the sets. It's a Ra's Al Ghul episode in which Ra's has taken on Talia's identity. I'm fairly sure I've watched all the dvd's, but I suppose I could've missed one...I remember Batman's line toward the end..."What are you complaining about?...She kissed ME..."
And I also found this description of another (?) episode entitled "Demon Reborn"
Batman comes to the rescue of Superman as Ra's Al Ghul, known as "The Demon" attempts to steal Superman's powers.
I don't see either of these on the dvd's....I find this disturbing.

Lord, BTAS. I grew up watching this, this is what did me in for Batman. A little elementary kid, watching Batman. For me this was my thing growing up Batman and Power Rangers, okay I was a dork. I loved all the superhero cartoons. Okay, now I feel old, but I loved it my favorite. Batgirl. I thought finally! A girl bats that kicks major ass, okay I didn't say it like that but basically the same manner. Catwoman and Ivy thought they rocked, and Harley made me laugh. :D fond... fond... fond memories.

I loved evrything about batman TAS. In fact I was introduced to batman via the movie followed by the animated series--which had the greatest impact. The dark-deco batman and the first robin--costumes are awesome, the batmobile was real nice--almost real...except that I feel the new "the batman" boatmobile is more functional. I mean...what's the purpose for such a large bonnet for BTAS? to house fighter plane engine? surely bat-world nanotechnology could replicate the physics in a more modest propulsion system. but nevertheless...the batmobile was raw awesome power. You could almost feel it's cold black steel just by watching it. great animation! as for bat's fantastically believable ninja.
A really good batman movie say Batman Begins sequel...would do best to personify bats as a dark person from BTAS. its really an ideal study of batman. it would have made batman creators really proud of their work exceeding expectations!

I watched the "Legends of the Dark Knight" episode yesterday. I laughed my ass off when they met that fruity little kid named Joel. Joel says "Who's talking about Batman? I love Batman. All those muscles, the tight rubber armor. And that flashy car. I heard it could drive up walls." The other kids say "Yeah sure, Joel." That is hilarious.

Great episode, I love it just to see Dick Sprang's style come to life.
I was thinking about the Clayface episode the other night, that was another where the animation just stood out, the first episode with him I mean, like when he's freaking out in front of all the tvs at the end and turning into all the characters he's been in his films and as Clayface, it was just beautiful animation.

I definitely agree to some extent. It would be great to have a Live Action Batman show after Nolan is finished with his Trilogy. But they just need to cast good actors, not necessarily dub their voices. I think it should be a 1 hour show on WB. I'm sure it would be better then Smallville and the new Blade show, which looks bad. The atmosphere should be dark like in TAS. I think it should have the feel of TAS and Dead End(minus the stupid aliens and whatever). Clark Bartram who was Batman in Dead End did a great job, had the physique, and he nailed a perfect Kevin Conroy voice. Get someone like him to be Batman. Oh and ofcourse have Batman wear tights.
Thats one thing I always thought was dumb, Batman wears a heavy rubber suit in the movies when he should wear a cloth suit with kevlar under it. I mean seriously, if someone was going out to fight crime they wouldn't limit themselves with 40 pounds of useless rubber. And kevlar is the thin bullet proof padding he should wear under it.
newwaveboy87
04-16-2006, 08:52 PM
i think, if they were going to have a live action Batman show again it should be on HBO. then it could be free of basic TV restrictions on violence, swearing, nudity, and subject matter. imagine the possibilities.

I am not commenting on what you said. Just comenting on the fact that the Scarecrow suit in the old TAS after that one was the best in any of the animated series. In the newer TAS I did not like the re-vamp of him looking way too creepy and having that noose around his neck...looking like some sadistic preacher.

Thank goodness I have HBO if this was a reality:up:

a lot of the designs aren't terribly practical. Robin wears red, green, and yellow while running around in the shadows. Poison Ivy wears what amounts to a swim suit, how is that supposed to offer protection?

Actually I may be thinking about the new adventures. In any case in BTAS she was more a vigilante, and in later incarnations she became more manipulative and less heroic.Which is actually more like her comic counterpart, but the progression was just unnatural.

Oh god.Clock King,Terrible Trio, and that Invisible guy were the worst villains of the show :o
Yet they all gave Batman a hard time. Clock King nearly killed him, invisible guy knocked him out, Terrible Trio evaded him with some success. Human villains always interested me, as opposed to the not so human (Joker, Penquin, Poison Ivy, Killer Croc, Two-Face, Riddler, and the rest). See, they all stick around to fight Batman continuously with their outrageous personas while the normal criminals are just there for background. Sure I wouldn't call Clock King, Terrible Trio, invisible guy, and Mad Hatter normal criminals (and definetly not Clayface) but they are a step lower in concern with rogues gallery rank which makes them more obscure, and they fall prey to unjust negative criticism from fans. Just because they aren't heavy hitters, doesn't make them any less dangerous than Batman's regular rogues. I think Batman would even tell you that, if he were real. He'd probably say: "Never take any of them lightly, it could turn ugly real fast if your not respecting the situation." Another case in point, The Pack Rat
http://img50.imageshack.us/img50/3127/mel112ua.jpg
was one of Batman's most ridiculous short-lived, Joker induced, enemies but, it didn't make him any less dangerous than say Two-Face. Since this character was carrying a machine gun, when Batman and Robin found him, they both had to take things seriously;otherwise, someone, or one/both of them, could die/take injury.
newwaveboy87
04-18-2006, 02:28 PM
i too like human villians - Thorne, Dagget, Stromwell, Falcone, Maroni - but The Terrible Trio were just inherently lame. three bored rich boys decide to go on a crime spree? what?
Clock King was ok. he's no more gimmicky than say Riddler, Mad Hatter, Two-Face, Ventrilloquist, et al. he did give Batman a pretty good fight in Time Out of Joint.
Mad Hatter - i like him. Perchance to Dream is a great episode. :)
Clayface they never really made a bad Clayface episode in my opinion. Growing Pains is pretty high up there on my favorite episodes list.

I just want to say,I hated the transition to Gotham Knights. Many of the villains were redesigned atrociously, and their behavior was radically different(i.e. Catwoman).
Not really. The only radical change that occured was in Two-Face, but I tend to view the third personality as an extension of Harvey Dent. As for Catwoman, the changes that did occur were minimal and for the best; in TNBAS she was much more of a sociopath. Which is definitely a good thing because Catwoman is the ultimate in sociopathic villains, especially in the Batman Rogues Gallery. As I understand, the changes were also thoroughly explored and explained in the line of comics that tracked BTAS.
Oh, and I thought I should mention that Bruce Timm has stated in the commentaries and in several Toonzone interviews that BTAS Volume 4 is his favorite season of the series; it's quite intriguing if you take into account that some of the fans hate the transition that occured. I loved it, and it is also my favorite of the four seasons.

That's the general opinion of most people I've come across. While the premise is very outlandish, the animation and direction are of particularly high quality. The score is also very well done and the writing, save for a few badly executed puns, was solid. The voice-acting is also good as most of the episodes. It's just not something that Batman fans aren't ready to swallow.
By contrast, I cannot fully express my raw hatred for Christmas With The Joker. Just about everything in it is of extremely low quality. The episode itself is hard to look at as the animation is very, very poor. The same thing can be said about a lot of the BTAS episodes, but the animation in this episode is just plain horrible. And everything in it is an insult to sebsibilites of the fans and of really the characters themselves. I mean, the characterization is embarrassing! And I cannot ever forget that stupid, stupid line:
Robin! Execute maneuver "B!"
It will haunt my nightmares forever.
newwaveboy87

Only thing I liked was their look for her as Selina Kyle. She looked more like she does in the comics. The only thing that bothered me when she was in the suit in Volume 4 was her white skin in the suit and the ears were a bit too pointy.

Hmm...I have a very vague memory of that Superman episode...did it involve him trying to see if Superman was a worthy suitor for his daughter too or something? Other than that I do not recall seeing Ra's at all after Batman Volume 3.

I loved how in the very end of that episode they had Two-Face in the room all strapped up and in his mind you hear:
The Judge: "How does the defendant plea?"
Harvey: "Guilty...guilty...guilty..."
That was really cool. The fact that he developed a 3rd personality that even he was not aware of was really cool. Makes sense too and oddly enough in One Year Later since Harvey is not Two-Face anymore it seems he is somewhat of a vigilante now (maybe they sort of looked at that episode for the idea?).

Batman: The Animated Series IS the best Television show EVER. STILL. It brought us the best depiction of Batman, looking at all incarnations, all of the movies, even Batman Begins. We got our definitive Batman out of BTAS... and, I just get chills when I watch the episodes again.
Very fond memories of coming home from elementary school... and watching the show of FOX-- the best time of my life-- when I was in Elementary school, watching BTAS and awaiting the Batman movies to come out, like Batman Forever, and Batman & Robin. I was young, and loved Batman and I still do.
When TNBA came on, I didn't watch ONE episode... probabally because I thought it would still be on FOX and not switched to WB, and I didn't know what time. No... I don't think I really know why I didn't watch that show... maybe Batman & Robin ruined Batman for me for a while... I don't know. I got the boxset on the day it was released(have all 4 plus beyond s. 1, not JLA tho...) I watched the episodes... and, they were just okay, no where near as good as BTAS or Beyond for that matter(I love Beyond now, didn't watch it when I was a kid tho:(...) I like Over the Edge and that was about it... all others were just subpar-- too much of the Bat family appeared.
MY FAVORITE BTAS EPISODES!:
Most of the shows are the ones that stood out when I watched as a kid, and loved, and still do for some reason, but are by no means the best episodes.
-On Leather Wings
-The Last Laugh- Loved as a kid:)
-Be A Clown- Loved as a kid:)
-Two-Face Pt. 1 and 2
-I've Got Batman in my Basement- loved as a kid:)
-See No Evil- AWESOME!
-Beware of the Gray Ghost
-Feat of Clay Pt. 1 and 2(MY FAVORIE EPS OF ALL TIME, "I'm not an actor anymore, I'm... I'm not even a man..." dun dun dun da dun dun dun GREAT!
-Perchance to Dream- LOVE IT!
-The Strange Secret of Bruce Wayne- So good, up there with my tops!
-Almost Got 'Im- When I was a kid, I never saw the ep... for the longest time.. I did have a book tho, and it came with a tape of the actors acting it out-- I LOVED IT!
-What is Reality- Loved as a kid, it was so cool then!
-Mudslide- FANTASTIC
-His Silicon Soul- Batman meets Terminator- MY FAVORITE EP AS A KID!
-Sideshow- I love the running in the wilderness, everything up until when he meets the circus people is awesome.
-Trial- the sequel to almost got 'im basically, very cool
-Time Out of Joint- VERY COOL!
I like all of the episodes a lot... but those are the ones that stick out to me. I never was a sucker for Heart Of Ice tho, lol... call me crazy.:)

I still love the Last Laugh, but not I've got Batman in my Basement. I really liked it when I was a kid.
And, for TNBA, I enjoyed the following eps:
Holliday Knights: Fun ep with lots of little stories
Sins Of the Father: good origin for the new robin, fun seeing two-face
Double Talk: Cool ep with ventriloquist going WAY crazy
Never Fear: neato!
Over The Edge: great ep, best of the series
Animal Act: fun seeing the new look mad hatter
Legends of the Dark Knight: cool, showing a lot of Batmans
Mad Love: The birth of Harley
Let's face it, the last episode of the series, Judgement Day was not good at all... tis a shame. They should have did one last season, knowing it was their last, and wrapped it up.

I've been trying to upload all the old title cards from the series, along with their music. I'm almost done. TNAS didn't even have the title cards, so that makes my job a little easier. The thing is, not alot of peeps really appreciate the cards from the show on YTMND. Maybe it's because they aren't funny.

Curious cause I do not have all of the volumes yet and do not remember many of the episodes but...where there many Two-Face episodes? I forget the good ones he was in. I was thinking about it because in the previous Round 8 in the elminiation games we have going on he was runner-up for best TAS villain; lost to The Joker of course.

Two-Face was in a lot of episodes actually. the most appearances for villains falls somewhere like this: Joker, Penguin, Two-Face. in that order i believe.
Second Chance, Two-Face (both parts), Sins of the Father, and Judgement Day are all good.

well his defeat of Two-Face in BF happened directly in Two-Face pt. 2
and the origin of Freeze in B&R is exactly like his origin in Heart of Ice.
somewhere along the lines of adapting those though the emotional weight and meaning got lost.

Wouldn't that depend where you live? Because don't different states have different channels? I know when I visit my family in NY or AZ Fox and WB and stuff like that are different.
