Tool are expected to release their first album in five years on May 2nd. I want to see if the band is still as popular as it once was. Use this thread to talk about Tool in general as well.

Tool is an automatic sell as they don't fit into any specific genre (some say art-metal, some say prog metal, etc.), but they have a rabid, built-in fanbase. This was essentially the reason that A Perfect Circle's first record debuted at #3 I believe (which was a first for an unheard act with no previous release whatsoever). I know I'll be there to buy it. What's more amazing is that 85% of people who own their records don't even know what they look like.

They sell based on the music. They friggin' rule! Everyone go out and get the album the first day, so we can give them another number #1.

Maynard is SO f***ing COOL!

However I hate Tool. I'd rather just watch and read Maynard interviews.
The only thing I like is "Judith" by A Perfect Circle.

Kind of the opposite of Madonna, Michael Jackson, etc. where you like their music but think they are idiots and loathe their personalities and cringe when they open their mouths to speak.

That's how Maynard rolls . . . I read an interview about them at the time of their last album, and Maynard was walking down the street w/ Adam Jones (guitarist), and an exuberated fan runs up to Maynard after the 2 part ways, and says "Dude, do you know who you were just talking to!? That's the guitar player from TOOL!"

I can't stand Billy Corgan. He pulled basically the same crap at Lollapalooza in '94 at the show I went to. After a great show by so many great bands including...yup...Green Day....Beastie Boys, George Clinton & Parliament/Funkadelic and so many others, Smashing Pumpkins comes out as the show's headliner. Billy's pissed about something or another so he refuses to sing at all and they play half a song before he finally relents to his bandmate's urging him to just sing the damn song, but he starts singing in the most obnoxious, purposefully out of key and whiny, screechy voice I've ever heard. And then when the song ends he starts insulting the crowd and telling them what a bunch of a-holes they are and so on and so on. You can see waves of people just leaving as fast as they can, and the whole time the band is playing and looking embarrassed while he belittles the crowd as they leave during their set. It was really bad. No wonder D'Arcy went into hiding and he's having trouble getting the band to reunite. What an A-Hole.

As for Tool, Maynard is absolutely fascinating to me and they have written some pretty innovative stuff, but I can take or leave them, to be honest.

see, this is why I've got to learn to post my music 'cause I've recorded a bunch of preposterous things like that, like my Jazz version of "Tom Sawyer" by Rush and my version of a Doobie Brothers song by The Cure. :(
It'd get a laugh or 40.

I'd just like to point out, in an alternate world, a Geniusly Comedic Poster would now come in and say, "I can't wait to hear, like,...Limp Bizkit doing "Nobody knows what it's LIKE, to be the SAD-man..."

And yet,...it is real, which is another reason to put Fred Durst on the "Biggest Ass-**** Front Men" poll, hahahaha

one method that he'd probably use is to put the dramatic pauses in different places like, instead of:

Then you wouldn’t have to say that you love me
Cos I’d already know
He'd say:

"Then"........(chugging along with heavy bass)

"you wouldn’t have to say".........

"that you love......ME?"

Regardless of what some non-fans think of the music in general; they're still a powerful band and Maynard is one of the best singers ever. Not only is Maynard an awesome singer, lyricist, and songwriter, but he also has great musicians providing the music and the overall atmosphere of the songs.
