Donner doesn't interest me at all. I was so happy about buying two Superman books with Buisiek on each, now I'm kind of annoyed I won't be getting Action.
This is equal in crappyness as getting the two Flash TV people to write Flash.

PLOT:
When he didn't have his powers anymore, his life was like anyone else and was better. Now with his powers back, Clark now relives his old life. Being chewed up by Perry, late for mettings, assignments, Lois. Superman has returned, so has Clark's not-so-good life.
REVIEW:
Continuing from "Up, Up & Away", we see Superman back in his normal fashion. Fighting Intergang, Prankster, everyone is happy he's back, except for one: Clark Kent. His life was better when he wasn't Superman, now its vice-versa again.
Out of the two arcs (Action, Superman) this one is the one I had no problems with before getting. I still have concerns over the Action Comics title arc because that storyline kinda makes no sense after the conclusion of "Up, Up & Away". This storyline makes sense because its what happens when someone who has his life in order when he wasn't a superhero, gets that life back and the problems again. The Action Comics one doesn't. It would've if it was part of "Up, Up & Away" but no after. Anyway....more talk on this once I review that issue.
One of the surprises was Lana as the new CEO of LexCorp. I thought someone, prolly new, would be the one who would take over. But Lana? That's unexpected. I think its obivious Luthor will return to get his company back but what I'm really curious about is wheather or not this isma sign that Clark Kent as Superboy has been put back, due to that Smallville shot from Infinite Crisis. Still, time will tell.
Overall; this was a nice issue. Kurt Busiek is a good writer. His Superman: Secret Identity is one Superman (or real life one) that I love the most. This issue is part of an arc so let's see what's in some for later.
RATING: 7.5/10

Hey....
Its all good as long as during his Clark time, he had time for he and Lois to conceive....
It's inevitable....Clark's powered down for the whole year....
I'll use my entire savings to buy multiple copies to get the issue when Lois says, "Clark, you're a father."
Why not, I got 25 copies of those two getting married.
I'm what you call a continuity freak. I love it when they went from strangers-competitors-friends-lovers-husband and wife.

Well the thing is when people think Superman they think Christopher Reeve which is the Donner Superman movie. Its the one thing everyone can identify with Superman wise. The problem is, as great movies as they are, the character of Superman in the comics has changed about 20 times since then, making the movie to us comic book fans a bit dated. But since DC has decided to make everyone like they just stepped out of the Silver Age, the Donner movies are representative of that.

Well, there was always a danger to Lois should she ever be pregnant. The alien-earthling bun in the oven might allow Lois to survive for a while, but should the time come when they reach the point that they 'kick' (like all babies would), and they are under the yellow sun....
well, for those "I hate Lois" fans, they would consider that a godsend act....since they hate Lois and Superman being married. Everyone always wants them to remain how they were before, forever teased such as it was. Where they are attracted, but not together. (but i'm getting off point here)
The point is, even a half-kryptonian baby can kill Lois in the womb, since they would be absorbing the suns rays, since that's the source of Superman's powers.
TheCorpulent1
07-20-2006, 08:50 AM
Or... it wouldn't be absorbing any solar radiation because the writers say it doesn't. Comic books are funny that way. :o

You DO have a point Corp, regarding the unlimitless and endless possible storylines that the writers might come up with. They may have a normal delivery, and they may not....
Still, it helps to put at least one foot on the ground when writing comic book fiction to make it more believable, and if you will....realistic--but who says comics HAVE to be realistic right?

just saw superman returns... unfortunately... id been avoiding it for sometime now... my nephew switched on me at the last minute, i was supposed to take him to see pirates 2... so heres what i think:
Positve:
Brandon Routh as Superman
Sam Huntington as Jimmy Olsen
Negative:
Bryan Singers lack of understanding of what kryptonite does to Superman
Singers apparent guess at who Lex Luthor is... that wasnt Lex... not silver age, not golden age, not modern age... hell not even hackman lex (which i loathe)...
Kitty Kowalski... completely unneeded character...
Pa Kent dead... never liked it... never will
Richard White... not that i didnt like him, but they created the character just so they could hurt him... sucky...
Lois Lane: Superho! thats right i said it... youve seen the movie you should be able to extrapolate my meaning... if not ill be happy to explain it to you, but bottom line not only does singer not get lois, he obviously doesnt like her... i like kate bosworth but she was all wrong for this part...
SuperJason... wow... just wow... i am not opposed to superman having a child... but not like this... even if i was so inclined to swallow that superman can only have sex when powerless (which im not) i refuse to believe the worlds biggest boyscout didnt wrap it up...
Superman leaving for 5 years... not only is it out of character, its completely irresponsible and neglegent, and it wouldnt take him 5 years to do anyway...
Superman eavesdropping on lois... hed never do that... never... hed hate himself for it...
and thats it... for now! mooohohahahaha!

I think it was just unfortunate that Superman had to come out the week before Pirates. That was why they moved it to a Wednesday release, just to get two more days in because they knew Pirates was going to destroy the box office. X-Men 3 did over 100 mil opening weekend and is so far about 50 mil over Superman overall, but I think even people who weren't crazy over Superman would still agree it was way better than X3.

ACTION COMICS #841
PLOT:
Ever since Superman retuend after a year, people are wondering if he is the real Superman. Referencing the past like the 4 Supermen from "The Death and Life of Superman" as examples, Superman begins a tough time trying to convince the un-convinced even when ana lien invader arrives.
REVIEW:
I'll start this by saying: I was debating about getting this issue. The storyline, I felt, should've been told in "Up, Up & Away" and right now its little too late in a degree. But in the end, it turned out to be good. I mean I liked the issue. It was just the plot should've been part of the previous arc. So it could've been titled "Up, Up & Away Part 9: Back in Action".
The editor says that Firestorm in this issue is before #26, don't need to talk about that. And Nightwing and Superman are on good terms so this is before Outsiders OYL. And the Teen Titans here could be after #37. And its obivious, this is before the arc in Superman that started in #654. So this storyline is after Superman's return and now it ties up his returned status with other superheroes, the Metropolis citizens, and the government.
As for the story itself, this was pretty common storyline, but in a positive light. The medicore part was that there is an alien looking at people, places and things from earth and wants to sell it to the highest bidders and finds Superman as the great prize. This, as I see it, is a subplot. The main plot, and what saved this book, was Superman trying to prove to the world he is the real deal.
The alien, as I said, is pretty much like the "been there, done that" feeling. At least from me. He's human looking with his beard and hair looking like tatoos (reminding me of the Riddler from TB) and his eyes are green colored and insect like. And he has robots to help him, everyone needs robots, y'know.
The people who aren't convinced Superman is real is seen here and you wouldn't be against them if the Man of Steel returned after a year long absence. We've seen it before, as the readers, when heroes die and come back or leave, hopign never tor eturn, and then "SURPRISE" there he is again. Here, the cops question to fire their weapons at an enemy in the fear if they kill a "fake" Supes. People outside hold our signs protesting for the truth on Superman, and the government at least hopes its Superman for real because his ID was expired and, Clark mentiones the gov't wants to experiment on him. Until they know for sure, an alien is an alien to them no matter if one wears the big "S".
Overall, this was pretty good. Alien is same old, samwe old. But I feel the Superman's side of things and the people around and on him were very interesting. Thats what saved the book. I still feel though, it should been part of the "Up, Up & Away" arc.

Isn't Arion Aquaman's daddy or something....whoever he is...he's a pimp. I like him.
Arion's an ancient Atlantean, from back when Atlantis was more in touch with its magic roots and filled with sorcerers. He was basically the king sorcerer of the bunch. He was also thought to be Power Girl's grandfather or something post-Crisis, but Johns shot that down with the revelation that Power Girl's "super-secret origin" was really that she was just the same as she had been pre-Crisis. I don't think Arion has any connection to Aquaman beyond the shared Atlantean heritage, though.
How'd Arion show up in this issue of Superman? Last I heard, he was dead and his spirit was at rest after Power Girl freed him from captivity on Gemworld. I didn't buy this issue of Superman because I needed to save money and I figured Action Comics was better, but I may pick it up after all if Arion's in it.

It's decent as a movie. But when it invades the comics, it's absolutely filth. The filthiest kind of filth. It's the filth that other filth talks about behind its filthy back.

Will this thread also serve as a haven for discussion for the upcoming run on Action Comics written by Johns & Donner and drawn by Adam Kubert? Because once Action Comics #844 arrives, which will be huge, I would hope we would have a thread to discuss the comic.

The Superman OYL Thread seems to be ample to handle discussion about Action Comics as well as other Superman titles.

Yeah sure, why not. It's all Superman after all. So what do you want to discuss about Action anyway?
I dont want to buy Action but I feel that I will be forced to because Kubert and Johns are the names on the book.

I think it will be well worth to buy Action Comics once Johns, Donner and Kubert are on the book. I rarely ever buy the comic but this upcoming run has changed my mind about that.

neither is Donner & Johns... Kubert i could have gone either way on, but then he had to use the movie costume...

The kid looks like Jason Lane from SR .With the way DC is jumping at every chance they can to invade Superman's mythos with movie crap lately, I wouldn't be surprised one damn bit if it was Jason.
