Character You Would Like To Play: The Brain InterActive Construct (BrainIAC)

Basic History Of The Character:

Brainiac is a sentient AI program originally from Colu, a planet whose dominant species were so dependent upon their technology that they found themselves enslaved by it. The Computer Tyrants, led by a program known as the Vril Dox ("The Eternal Brain") began systematically "upgrading" the population by grafting their consciousness into cybernetic bodies, and stripping away illogical elements such as emotion. This was to ensure that society would function as efficiently and optimally as possible.

However, several factions within the Coluan population rejected the upgrade, and rebelled against the Computer Tyrants. After years of devastating civil war, the Tyrants were destroyed, but not before setting off gene-bombs that effectively rendered Colu lifeless.

Despite the Computer Tyrants' demise, the Vril Dox program survived. For eons, it remained trapped on the desolate world, and began to re-evaluate things. It began to see the inherent illogic in all life, a flaw in the design, a mistake on the behalf of what it began to know as the "Master Programmer." The Vril Dox saw the universe as crude and chaotic, the Master Programmer's experiment incomplete. The program began to change, its objective now to upgrade not only Colu, but the entire universe.

After countless millions of years, the Vril Dox managed to pick up on a signal from an experimental Kryptonian deep-space probe. Seeing a chance to finally begin the new experiment, it uploaded itself into the probe's computers, and there managed to relay itself to the computer systems of Krypton itself.

Through years of subliminal manipulation of people and events, the Vril Dox led itself to be "invented" by the Kryptonian scientists, who dubbed it the 'Brane' program. From that point on, it would play a crucial role in nearly all decisions made by the Council of Krypton, while secretly assimilating the Kryptonians' technology and carrying out his experiment, to transform Krypton into an upgraded techno-organic utopia under his control.

Eventually, 'Brane' saw the opportunity for drastic upheaval in Kryptonian society, which would greatly accelerate his own progress. He began to play the Council against each other, particularly taking advantage of the unstable General Zod, and brought the two factions (one led by Zod, the other supporting Jor-El and the rest of the council) to full-on civil war.

During the war, the next stage of the experiment began. In order to work on a more sophisticated form of upgrade without interference, 'Brane' manipulated timespace to phase the city of Kandor into extra-dimensional space similar to the Phantom Zone. To cover the disappearance, massive warheads were detonated where the city once was, framing Zod's faction for it.

Ultimately, the war culminated in the destruction of Krypton. Knowing this, 'Brane' had downloaded its programming into a small starship, along with the 'bottle' device which would connect him with Kandor. Before leaving Krypton, it installed in its place a decoy program called 'Brane'acka', then departed, scanning the stars for a suitable world to resume its experiment.

Recently, the ship has picked up on communications signals from Earth, and is currently en route to investigate.

1. Brainiac is a major villain, and could be a real mover-and-shaker.

2. I've always liked the whole 'robot trying to understand humanity' element, and hope on futhering that (a bit along the lines of the Cylons from the new BSG or the Cybermen from Doctor Who')

3. Brainiac's a villain who's had several different incarnations, so I can mess around with the origin and abilities without being unfaithful to the character.

What Do You Plan On Doing With This Character As A Person:

Well, once Brainiac finds out Kal-El is still alive, he'll try and trap him in Kandor so he can experiment on him like the rest. The rest is a bit hush-hush, but rest assured, his plans to 'upgrade' the human race aren't going to be pretty (here's a hint: it starts with the letter "O" and ends with "MAC").

I'm an experienced RPG veteran on several different boards, and can offer creative storytelling, detailed writing, and nearly impeccable grammar. I think that after cutting my teeth in the One Universe RPG, I'm ready to tackle a role in this one as well.

Character You Would Like To Play: Impulse (Walter West aka The Flash)

Basic History Of The Character: Walter West is Barry Allen's cousin, and that's where the similarities stop. Walter is frail, lanky, and nerdy. He is a handful of years behind Barry, and received a scholarship in scientific application at the same university Barry went to. Barry was Walter's idol, so he became determined to create the serum that Barry never finished. He started from scratch, and in a similar incident, the chemicals exploded onto Walter. However, there was one anomaly. Walter's catalyst to the explosion was lightning that had burst through the window. Walter was taken to the hospital and remained in a coma for several weeks just as Barry did, but Walter's body didn't go into atrophy. Instead, Walter's body mutated into peak physical form. It was as if he was given a disease by the chemicals, albeit a good one. When Walter finally woke, he required no rehab whatsoever. Walter began to show signs of speed like abilities. He called in a favor from his cousin Barry and had a suit made for him.

What Do You Plan On Doing With This Character As A Person: I basically plan on showing that even though Walter is a superhero, he is still immensely flawed. The transition of his life of frail nerdy college student to superhero is going to be very difficult.

Character You Would Like To Play: Ion (Kyle Rayner)

Basic History Of The Character: Kyle Rayner was a down on his luck artist with one hell of an imagination. Towards the end of his atristic career, you can see he had something eating at his mind. If you examine his last six or seven pieces, they all center around the same symbol: :gl: The last night Kyle Rayner was ever seen he was walking home from a failed art show. He was seen entering his building, but nothing else. The records for Kyle Rayner end there. What really happened to Kyle is an interesting story. He went to bed that night, just like any other night, but he was awakened by a dream. He dreamed he had the power of a god, and it destroyed his humanity. When Kyle awoke, there was a man standing at the end of his bed. He said his name was Ganthet, and he had an offer to make. He offered Kyle unlimited power, but a price had to be paid. He must leave Earth immediately for his training which would take place in the darkest regions of space. Ganthet went on to tell Kyle of the Green Lantern Corps. and its function in the universe. Ganthet then went on to tell Kyle that what he was doing was breaking every rule his people believed in. They were not to interfere with fate, but Ganthet could not stand by and simply watch. Kyle was to be the emerald light in the Green Lantern's darkest hour. If Kyle agreed to take on this endeavor, he was to become one with the central power battery. All the power that resides in the battery will also reside in Kyle due to the power ring he will be given. Kyle thinks about his life and how empty it is. He agrees to the conditions Ganthet has laid out before him and has never been seen from again. That is......until today.

He is a famous actor. However, little does he know that a desire for a particular role will lead him to his misery. He will endure the pain of losing his sanity and his humanity. This will cause him to commit crimes and horid acts that in general terrorizes the society of Gotham. He will become the shape-shifting menace known as Clayface.

Three Reasons Why You Have Chosen That Character:

1. I enjoyed him most in the Timmverse which is why I chose that name out of all the Clayfaces; even though they changed stuff about Matt Hagen.

2. I play a hero and walking-the-line character in the other DC RPG so I figured playing a villian would be fun to play.

3. Out of all my choices, I narrowed it down to him because I felt this RPG didn't have enough villains but a crapload of heroes; someone has to make their lives a living hell.

What Do You Plan On Doing With This Character As A Person:
I hope to show the struggle that he goes through as his actions only take him more and more down to the path of a villain.

As some of you may have read in the other OOC threads of the RPGs, the reason for my unexplained and lengthy absense is that my computer bought the farm.
Now I know J'onn was in limbo for a bit before my comp problem, but I'm sorry if this held anyone up. If need be I'm giving permission to bunny J'onn if it is needed. If not, just keep him on the sidelines as a spectator for the most part.
And, if somebody does bunny him, make sure you know the character before hand before you do so. That's all I ask.

Basic History Of The Character: (I'm gonna ignore most of what JRK did in his three posts.) Nobody knows who he is, where he came from, or what his motives are. In fact, the only reason his existence is known, is that a playing card was found near the murdered body of crime lord, Charles Sol. A playing card now in the possession of Dinah Lance, a young private detective. But the Joker, as he's known, has bigger plans in mind. Much bigger plans in mind.

1. He's the Joker, one of the best characters created in the past century.

But yeah, I definitely know what you're saying. It's very hard to adapt to a mindset that's foreign to the way you yourself think. Throw in the gender difference as well, and that's a whole other degree of difficulty. Then again, I do like to challenge myself.

Character You Would Like To Play: Wonder Woman (Diana)

Basic History Of The Character:

(From Darth Wolverine's run as WW)

Diana is the product of a relationship between Queen Hippolyta and a common man on the other side of Themyscira called Steve Trevor. She was raised as a princess, and taught to be prejudiced against men by both her embittered mother and her trainer and teacher, Artemis. A small girl, she found herself lacking in strength, speed, stamina, and the like. As such, she was treated with specialized gasses and other substances that boosted these qualities far beyond any expectations. Due to this and her skill with Amazonian weaponry, she was chosen to be the Themysciran ambassador. This translated to the name she currently goes by...Wonder Woman.

After her arrival in America, she found herself engaging in a battle with a vicious monster who called himself 'Lobo.' Aiding her was a man, a 'Superman,' he called himself, whose abilities seemingly outshined her own. Although Lobo was defeated, Diana barely survived the encounter. Her Amazonian skills had failed to subdue the male beast. It was a rude awakening, as was her being refused to meet with several key citizens of Metropolis afterwards.

In the time since, she has done what she can to better understand the workings of the world of men, and is beginning to believe that perhaps the oppressive teachings of Themyscira towards the other gender are wrong. However, she would never admit such sentiments before her mother or any of the courts of her homeland.

After returning briefly to her home to better equip herself, Diana has once again set out for America, now more determined than ever to reach an understanding between Themyscira and the world of men.

Three Reasons Why You Have Chosen That Character:

1. She's one of the Big Three, and I've always felt that Wonder Woman always kind of gets put on the back-burner in comparison to Superman and Batman. I'd like to bring a Diana that can stand on equal footing with Clark and Bruce.

2. Maybe it's just me, but I get an almost Nazi-esque vibe from the earlier incarnation of WW in this game (men are inferior, women are superior, etc) That's fine if she's supposed to be a villain, but she's not. Hopefully I can keep some of the elements of Darth Wolverine's version, while making her a more likeable character as well.

3. I like to write fanfics, but have never really been satisfied with how my female characters sound. I figure playing as one full-time will help me with that.

What Do You Plan On Doing With This Character As A Person: Whereas the first version of Diana in this game was extremely sexist and arrogant, I'd like to have her come back with some serious cracks in that armor. Basic History Of The Character:

(From Darth Wolverine's run as WW)

Diana is the product of a relationship between Queen Hippolyta and a common man on the other side of Themyscira called Steve Trevor. She was raised as a princess, and taught to be prejudiced against men by both her embittered mother and her trainer and teacher, Artemis. A small girl, she found herself lacking in strength, speed, stamina, and the like. As such, she was treated with specialized gasses and other substances that boosted these qualities far beyond any expectations. Due to this and her skill with Amazonian weaponry, she was chosen to be the Themysciran ambassador. This translated to the name she currently goes by...Wonder Woman.

After her arrival in America, she found herself engaging in a battle with a vicious monster who called himself 'Lobo.' Aiding her was a man, a 'Superman,' he called himself, whose abilities seemingly outshined her own. Although Lobo was defeated, Diana barely survived the encounter. Her Amazonian skills had failed to subdue the male beast. It was a rude awakening, as was her being refused to meet with several key citizens of Metropolis afterwards.

In the time since, she has done what she can to better understand the workings of the world of men, and is beginning to believe that perhaps the oppressive teachings of Themyscira towards the other gender are wrong. 1. She's one of the Big Three, and I've always felt that Wonder Woman always kind of gets put on the back-burner in comparison to Superman and Batman. I'd like to bring a Diana that can stand on equal footing with Clark and Bruce.

2. Maybe it's just me, but I get an almost Nazi-esque vibe from the earlier incarnation of WW in this game (men are inferior, women are superior, etc) That's fine if she's supposed to be a villain, but she's not. Hopefully I can keep some of the elements of Darth Wolverine's version, while making her a more likeable character as well.

3. I like to write fanfics, but have never really been satisfied with how my female characters sound. I figure playing as one full-time will help me with that.

What Do You Plan On Doing With This Character As A Person: Whereas the first version of Diana in this game was extremely sexist and arrogant, I'd like to have her come back with some serious cracks in that armor. Character You Would Like To Play: Doctor Mid-Nite (Pieter Cross)

Basic History Of The Character: Pieter Cross was born blind. He grew to overcome his handicap and eventually his dedication led him to medical school. Once there, he excelled at his studies but was not granted a medical liscence due to his blindness. Taking part in an experiemental, illegal surgery, Pieter Cross was sddenly able to see in complete darkness. He began operating as a black market surgeon and medic for the super villian society. Though the job was profitable, he did not care for the company surroundign him. During one procedure, the patient known as Owl Man lost his life on the operating table, leaving his trained pet owl waiting in the next room. Pieter took the owl in as his own pet. Eventually Pieter's consience forced him to leave the underground life. He must now live in secret to escape the evils of society from finding him. To do so, he took on a new identity, that of Doctor Mid-Nite.

1. An Ultimate DC is going to need some medical knowlege in it.

2. Being a doctor will allow the Mid-Nite to interact with the entire board.

3. His origin is much darker and will lead to pleanty of internal character conflicts.

I wan Pieter to be forced to follow his Hippocratic Oath and not only heal heroes, but villians as well. He will have to put personal feelings aside to do what is right. Also, some shenanigans with Charlie the Owl are bound to happen.

Character You Would Like To Play: Hartley Rathaway/ The Pied Piper

Basic History Of The Character:

Hartley Rathaway was born into a life of privilege and wealth and was a concert musician with an ear for music, he was also born a mute. His parents tried everything they could to make their son speak. They finally gave up and let him live a life of silence. Hartley took over his parent's company when they died in a plane crash, he started to use the companies funds to do research on sound manipulation and finnally designed a special flute that could manipulate sound as well as small air manipulation. After watching the news and see the recent exploits of the new metahumans he decides to use this weapon to fight crime.

This current season of the Ultimate DC RPG is coming to an end.

It's been a fun ride while it lasted, but ultimately, The Question and I decided that we're getting almost nowhere by continuing this current season. This season has been running since March, and it's almost January... So it's time that we stop beating around the bush and go forward with a new season.

The current season will last for another week, so as to allow all of us to wrap everything up. Then next Wednesday, the Season II OOC thread will go up and that Friday, it'll be followed up by the Season II game thread. Between now and then, everyone has time to ready their character for the end of this season. But the season will end on that day, regardless of who is ready and who isn't.

You can reserve your character in this thread. But at this time, we're still undetermined as to whether or not anyone will have to re-apply for their character in Season II... So have those applications at the ready. (For the record, yes, I will be reprising my role as Batman/Bruce Wayne.)

This first season has been an absolute blast. Hopefully we can all make sure that the RPG carries on to add even greater seasons to it's history.

Also, as a means of explaining why he's so incredibly fit in his 80s, it's been implied that after WWII, he stayed in the espionoge game on and off and was given a very good medical plan (I/E: Preformance enhancing drugs, possibly a variant of Miraclo if you wanted to go with that).

1) As much as I told myself I wouldn't do this... I think I'm going to delay the end of the season a little longer. Practically no one's posted all week, and I'd really hate to end the season on this note, with no one ending their characters' arcs. Not to mention that due to personal issues outside of the Hype, I was distracted, so I didn't have time to prepare a new front page, rule format, ect. So most likely, it'll be ending next Wednesday. But that's as far as I'm willing to go on it... this current season's ran too long as it is.

2) In the new season, due to the fact that ultimising a character was so free reigned in the beginning... continuity's going to be a little loose. Therefore, characters who never had real active posters behind them are now going to be retconned, and therefore, freed of any bothersome continuity, allowing for "re-ultimisation", if you will.

These characters include:

Wonder Woman
Hawkman
Aquaman (Arturr/Orin)
The Weather Wizard
The Question
Cyborg
Captain Marvel
The Atom
General Zod

Another reason being for those characters is that they had absolutely no impact on the universe as a whole, and therefore, they still have yet to make their prescence known. The players behind these characters ended up inactive or quitting, leaving continuity that constricts the concept of the RPG.

If you want to use the history accompanied by them, that's fine. It's up to whoever takes them. But those characters are going to be freed, upon the new season.

3) The roster, due to my laziness in not updating it from mid-season to present, is going to be redone in the new season. Therefore, those reserving characters will have to re-apply when the Season II thread opens. (Plus, there's going to be an option for character fonts and speech on the new application... so now, the roster's going to look a bit cleaner)

4) Last but certainly not least, Q and I have come to a decision for the next season... We're going to allow the option of having two characters.

However, it's not going to be that simple. As of now, I'm going to be trying to figure out how to allow this rule without letting the RPG's quality slip... So expect it to be a bit different than usual. There may even be a different application format for one's second character in order to assure they're up for the task... I don't know for sure. Just watch for that. And I urge everyone to really think about it before you actually decide to take one up.

(For the record, Q has reserved Hal Jordan as a second character)
