For those out of the loop, Hasbro is revving up a new Generation One-based toyline consisting of classic characters with new molds (i.e. more articulate, more modern alt-modes and proportioned closer to their cartoon/comic counterparts) to pick up the ball when Cybertron ends. The lineup so far is scheduled as thus: http://www.seibertron.com/news/view.php?id=6442
Deluxe
Optimus Prime (with out Trailer)
Bumblebee
Starscream
Hot Rod
Astrotrain
Grimlock
TBD (To be Decided)
TBD
All of these are set to be released in October except for Grimlock, Astrotrain, and the 2 TBDs, which are set for February.
Voyager
Megatron
Jetfire
Prime with trailer
Soundwave
Megs and Jetfire are set for October and Prime and Soundwave for Feb
No images yet, except perhaps for this gallery of a prototype for a certain Decepticon Triplechanger :) :http://tformers.com/ig.php?mode=album&album=5711&dispsize=800&start=0
It's also been speculated that Megatron will once again be a gun, based on offerings displayed by Hasbro at this year's Botcon, but this time he's going to look like a sort of retro-looking revolver-type space weapon that will 'almost-but-not-quite' look like the real deal (Hasbro wouldn't allow any photos at that time since the line was still up in the air).
But hopefully for me this means a 'toon-accurate G1 Jetfire.

O.K....so the absence of Optimus Prime's trailer - something which served so little useful purpose in the original cartoon and the comic that it was only seen maybe once in the space of either - is automatically cause to whine and moan and complain?
Have the Japanese version of 20th Anniversary Prime, by the way. The cardboard trailer is a piece of crap in almost every aspect, including its appearance. The WHEELS are friggin' cardboard.
And the smokestacks were the first thing to break on the original toy when I got it for Christmas back in '84. It's not like they were meant to be particularly intimidating or had any real purpose, anyway.

Honestly, if it means a lower price I couldn't give a s*** if there's a trailer or not.
I have an original G1 Optimus Prime and I never use the trailer for anything (I don't play with my toys). Same thing with my RiD Scourge. The trailers just end up taking closet space for me. Which is why, when I bought Masterpiece Convoy, I was so relieved he DIDN'T come with one.
I'd much rather have an affordable Prime toy than one that's twice as expensive and comes with an accessory I'll never use.

I think the size classes and price points for each on this line are about the same as they are on the newer 'anime' lines (Armada, Energon, Cybertron, etc.).

I cant wait for Grimlock and Megatron. I want to see how articulated both of these toys are. If its anything like the 20th anniversary Prime then I will be happy. Screw the trailer its the first part of the toy that broke and the first piece I lost.

Here are some really grainy B&W images of Optimus and Megatron - these are horrible pictures, I know, but...
http://www.seibertron.com/images/toys/tfclassics_optimusprime1.jpg
http://www.seibertron.com/images/toys/tfclassics_megatron1.jpg
Optimus looks like a more modern semi-truck - gun's a little on the bulky side, but from what I can see, he don't look bad.
Megatron - well, I think it goes without saying he was never going to really look like a REAL gun to begin with, but this look I kinda dig; he almost looks a bit like Robocop's gun.

Not in this line...I haven't heard or read any such rumors and I am on several Transformers boards just about everyday. As am I and that precise question came up on Seibertron.com...so yes in this line there is the potential for him to be a vehicle...I recently heard he may be close to his War Within version, though nothing is validated mind you.
Furthermore this line...I just found out, is not Neo-G1. Its Transformers Classics. Re-envisionings of old characters apparently.

Well, actually it would make a bit more sense than having him transform into a T-Rex again...the whole idea of Dinobots was cool, but it kinda undermined that whole 'robots in disguise' thing even in 1984.
Incidentally, I think Optimus has the best truck mode I've seen him in a long time here (not counting the Anniversary figure). And Megatron looks a little bit like Robocop's gun (or even Judge Dredd's), so they're both definite must-haves for me.

"OPTIMUS will only be in the VOYAGER assortment for the TRANSFORMERS CLASSICS toyline. He will NOT have a trailer. His blasters transform into parts of his vehicle mode." "For TRANSFORMERS CYBERTRON there will be a CROSSWISE redeco. There won't be a recolor for MUDFLAP now, as they recolored VECTOR PRIME instead." -Sage ^_^

Yup. It's official now. I'll be poor by Valentine's Day. :( :D
Optimus is pretty spot-on to what I was hoping for, even sans trailer. Hot Rod looks cool too, even with that funky weird blue weapon thing. Astrotrain's O.K. And by the looks of Starscream, I'll probably be bypassing the Masterpiece Screamer...or at least make a good effort to.
Megatron...hmm. The green and orange are interesting, and the whole alt-mode is Nerf-looking, but that big orange-tipped barrel and the purple seem to suggest that he's gone from being G1 Megatron to Galvatron to being warped back into some kind of Super Megatron. Still, in comparison to the versions of Megatron we've been getting so far, I'd say it could have been worse.

It's time we let go of the whole VW Beetle issue. If Volkswagon don't want to play ball, then that's their tough luck.

Bumblebee doesn't have to have a VW alt mode to be cool, and the TF fans should realise this.

Most TF fans have accepted that VW won't let go of their nazi past even though like 99.9% of the world population has no idea of their connection. And I don't even understand their problem, they were one of the few good things the nazi's did. Create a company that made cars that even poor people could afford, nothing wrong with that. Anyway, as I was saying, most TF fans have accepted that VW are going to be jerks and not let BB be a bug, but as long as he's a little compact car we're happy. So bam, this version is a little compact car, so I'm happy. Not happy with movie muscle car BB. This one is a-ok though.

Well, between some of the strange steps Alternators has taken (Grimlock and Ravage as cars, for one) and a lot of rumblings about the movie (Bumblebee 'talking' through the music on his radio, etc.), I already have a feeling that this line is going to be the closest we'll get to proper G1 homages. An in as much as I'd like Hasbro to move beyond dubbed crapime and try to bring something new to the table again, G1 and Beast Wars were the only parts of the TF franchise that had any characters anybody gave a sh** about.
On the plus side, if the movie fails, Hasbro may want to rethink packing in the Classics after next summer.

HASBRO INTRODUCES ‘MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE’ TRANSFORMERS CLASSICS LINE
Attention TRANSFORMERS fans of all ages: prepare to travel back in time to the era when ‘ROBOTS IN DISGUISE’ ruled the universe and waged endless intergalactic battles! This fall, Hasbro will pay a special tribute to the rich history captured in the saga that is MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE with the TRANSFORMERS Classics line of figures.
Available in November 2006, the new series of figures will feature updated versions of the first generation of TRANSFORMERS (or “G1”), inspired by the look and spirit of the original figures and characters. The line will include favorites from the original series: OPTIMUS PRIME, Bumblebee, Astrotrain and Megatron – which will be represented as a blaster for the first time since the 1980’s.
“The TRANSFORMERS CLASSICS line brings back the initial feeling of excitement when kids of the 80s first met this legendary brand,” says Greg Lombardo, Hasbro’s Director of Marketing, TRANSFORMERS. “Through advances in design and technology, we have been able to redesign the original ‘G1’ characters for today’s kids, while giving fans a chance to relive their childhood with the most realistic AUTOBOTS and DECEPTICONS figures available.”
Each character in the TRANSFORMERS Classics line will have a more detailed face and body, resulting in a more comparable appearance to the character seen on the original TV show and animated movie. The first wave of the DELUXE CLASS figures will include Bumblebee, Rodimus, Astrotrain, STARSCREAM and will be available in November at the approximate retail price of $9.99) Optimus Prime, and Megatron VOYAGER CLASS figures will be also be available in November at the approximate retail price of $19.99. All figures recommended for ages five and up and available at mass merchandise retailers nationwidehttp://www.hasbro.com/transformers/default.cfm?page=news&newsID=70BEDAAE-D56F-E112-412B14A6033C14A1

Yeah that is true. I bought the first Transformer a few weeks ago, god on earth was it ****ing insane transforming it. I spent 20 mins trying to get him to change(prime). I have a few more away for my b-day.

Most TF fans have accepted that VW won't let go of their nazi past even though like 99.9% of the world population has no idea of their connection. And I don't even understand their problem, they were one of the few good things the nazi's did. Create a company that made cars that even poor people could afford, nothing wrong with that.
Well, the fact that it was effectively done using slave labour might factor into that a tiny little bit, don't you think ?

They can't call him Hot Rod any longer due to trademark issues...
But I don't see why the couldn't call him Hot Rodimus.
And he is still listed as Rodimus on Hasbro's web site.

Yeah, I know, I like both of them too - and to be honest, the 'slim-n-trim' look on Mirage actually does kinda fit his overall function among the Autobots.
Tank Megatron is O.K., but I right now I don't find him all that impressive in comparison to the other Classics to consider buying him.

Now finally pictures of Classics Grimlock. This one is okay but after seeing the rest I'm actually disappointed in this figure. Grimlock is my favorite Transformers so I would have like to have seen a more faithful G1 type or War Within design for him. It would have been nice if he would have been a Mega sized figure as well.

I like this version of Grimlock, although I would've preferred if they had kept the "wings" of the original transformation. I mean, this is a classics line, so make it look like the classic !
I don't have any real problems with the Tyranosaurus mode, though, and that's where Grimlock's visual personality has always been rooted.

Hasbro has made available official images and bios of Classics Mirage and Grimlock.
TRANSFORMERS Classic Deluxe: GRIMLOCK Figure
http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/imagehosting/thum_44182451894a728214.jpg ('http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/vbimghost.php?do=displayimg&imgid=527')http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/imagehosting/thum_44182451894a74472c.jpg ('http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/vbimghost.php?do=displayimg&imgid=528')
GRIMLOCK keeps a collection of the parts he's torn off his DECEPTICON enemies. His super-thick ultramantium skin - in both robot and dinosaur mode - is coated in energy-absorbing materials, making him nearly impervious to damage. There are many who might say much the same thing about his mind. He is actually quite smart, but a programming flaw in his speech centers gives him only the most basic communications skills. He dislikes the weak, but is dedicated to the protection of those he views as lesser creatures. The only thing he hates more than weakness, in fact, is those who exploit the weak.
Amazing robot figure changes into detailed dino beast and back! Figure features a firing projectile and a tail that becomes a smashing whip!

TRANSFORMERS Classic Deluxe: MIRAGE Figure
http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/imagehosting/thum_44182451894a759ee6.jpg ('http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/vbimghost.php?do=displayimg&imgid=529')http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/imagehosting/thum_44182451894a76eed1.jpg ('http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/vbimghost.php?do=displayimg&imgid=530')
Together with BUMBLEBEE, MIRAGE completes the AUTOBOT spy team. Where BUMBLEBEE focuses on information however, MIRAGE prefers sabotage. Smart and fast, he's always ready with a joke, even when the situation doesn't call for one. Though he is not totally dedicated to the cause, he cares deeply for his friends, and will do anything he can to protect them. His specialized electro-disruptor weapon can create complex illusions, and even allows him to turn invisible.
Amazing robot figure changes into detailed race car vehicle and back! The electro disruptor adds to the action!

I must have THESE!!!
I think if I get that two pack I'd repaint the green on Megatron to either an olive green to match a tank better or maybe a slate gray like that tank shown in the prelim pics of the TF movie. I don't like that hunter green but i like the figure.

I actually picked up the Classics Voyager Optimus Prime at my Wal-Mart about a week ago. They only had him and the Voyager Megatron. No sign of the Deluxe ones like Bumblebee or Starscream yet. But I'm definitely keeping an eye out.
BTW, the Optimus is awesoemly cool. Very poseable, looks good and definitely blends the old with the new pretty nicely.

yea, i picked up optimus, hot rod (rodimus), bumble bee, and starscream at walmart and toysrus. walmart also had megatron and astrotrain but i don't like the way either of those figures look, megatrons eye brows remind me of, someone from kiss or some crazy eyeliner, it really turns me off to the toy lol and astrotrain, i've never liked astro, but hey, these toys kick ass! the return of bumble bee! long live G1!

Yeah, at a glance Megatron is a tad of a let down color-wise. Thats why when I get him he's getting repainted. Especially the neon green stuff. I can't stand that neon green.

The molds on some of these are great but does anyone have any idea how big they are? What are we talking about here 5 inches? Btw Devastator looks like crap.
FEAR THE BAT

Optimus is probably 6 to 6 1/4 inches tall so the others like Bumblebee & Starscream are probably 5 inches.

I found all the Deluxes at ToyRus in Des Moines Iowa, but none of the Voyagers:csad:. I picked up all of them but Rodimus, I'm not a fan of him, but down the line I'll get him. I wish they made either Jazz(Meister) or Prowl instead. I think they have a much bigger fan basis than Rodimus.
I like the minicons, but what's the point? This is not Armada, are they really needed for this line? Only one Transformer in Classics has a minicon peg that I know of and thats Astrotrain's gun, so I really don't see the point of getting these guys.

I've seen all of them here in SD. They're only in Wal-Marts. I picked up only Bumblebee because bumblebee was one of my favorites. And I also picked up that 20th anniversary prime as well. Out of the classic line, I only wanted Bumblebee, Rodimus, Starscream, and Grimlock. When I get all those, I'm practically done with that line.

Heads up to you guys. I found both Voyager Optimus and Megatron at Hastings along with Deluxe Starscream and Bumblebee. I already have Optimus so I passed on him and Megatron (My Wal-Mart has Megatron for cheaper). I did get Starscream just because he the one Deluxe figure I want the most but I had to pony up $13.99 for him. Had he been $10 i woulda got both him and Bumblebee. I can wait on Bumblebbe for now. Starcream is very cool, I like him. I wish the peg holes for his two missle launchers were on his forearms rather than upper arms because they get in the way of his wings that're right behind his arms/shoulders.
And they had the 20th DVD Anniversary Optimus too. He was $80. I'll pass for now.

You can get the 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime cheaper if you order it from www.HasbroToyShop.com it's only $69.99 on there site.

A couple of classics have finally started to show up in my area but the only ones I've seen so far is Bumblebee and Astrotrain...and they had qc issues with the paint so I passed for now. I'm prob going to wait later shipments to see if the quality control gets any better.

well i was just at my local toysrus to see if they had the die cast jetfire, but they had him and scourge, but once i saw jetfire in the package, i didn't think he looked as impressive as i thought he would, and since there's a classics version of him coming out soon, i actually didn't pick him up and caved and bought classics megatron and astrotrain, and i must say, both toys are highly impressive, i have some group photos of all the classics if anyone wants to see the size comparrison between all the different classics. o and so far, every store i've gone to, has had the entire classics line.

i live in the suburbs of chicago so its not much of a surprise that i've found them being by a big city and all. yea rod is eye to eye with starscream and astrotrain is the biggest deluxe while bumble bee is the smallest but by far the most detailed of all the deluxes, mainly in the head sculpt, which makes him easily one of the best deluxes to have, not to mention this is the first time he's been around in about 20 years. actually, have any astrotrains or hot rods been made after G1?

Armada Jetfire was repainted into Astrotrain for the Botcon I beleive, and Energon had a Rodimus figure which transformed into a Semi truck.

right now, i'm not liking the classics jetfire. its lacking detail to me, which is my main problem with megatron and astrotrain. even tho i like those 2 alot, they are my least fav of wave one. after seeing those photos of classics jetfire and seeing how big his helmet is, which looks rediculious, and i don't really like him without his helmet to much, and his lack of detail, atleast to me anyways, compared to the diecast jetfire, i decided i was going to buy the die cast one instead, cuz to me, thats the more detailed of the 2 if you ask me. and in my book, i'd rather spend 15 dollars on a toy of the same character i think is better than 20 dollar one that isn't nearly as cool looking. with 2 jetfires out right now, or will be very soon, i'd rather go with the die cast (which i've already picked up and loving it). and plus, he fits right in with the classics line. well anyways, i'm just more let done with the classics jetfire cuz i was expecting more, but i'll probably buy him later when i have some extra cash laying around lol
well thats the end of my rant (if you want to call it that lol) i just love jetfire so much and wanted more from the classic one.

Only Titanium I have is the Optimus and its pretty lackluster. I saw the Jetfire though and it did peek my interest a tad. Do you have both and if so is Jetfire that much better??
jnmx2000
10-30-2006, 02:31 AM
as far as die cast goes, i have optimus, which is lack laster as far as posing goes, the design is awesome tho, megatron, avoid at all costs lol, and thunder cracker. and i have to say, the problems that megatron and optimus have are non existent with jetfire and thundercrack. no lose joints at all. if you like the way the figure looks but are worried if its going to fall over at the slighest bump, jetfire and thundercracker are ok. they have pretty much replaced the ball joints with snap joints so it could hold better poses. but i don't think the titanium jetfire is anywhere near as possible as the classics one. but man, hes sweet, actually, jetfire only has ball joints at the knees which are not loose at all, and the rest of them are up and down sliding joints, all very solid. my only real compliant about the die cast jetfire is his wings, if you pick him up, your hand can knock off his wings, and his left arm has a shield piece that limites that arms movement cuz the piece hits his wings, but otherwise, if your looking for a more show piece, jetfire works. he doesn't have that problem that optimus has where he can't hold up his own arms, those problem are none exitisant in the new wave of the die cast line. as a show piece, i give jetfire a 5/5, but as a toy that is to be played with, a 3/5 do to the wings falling off and the limited movement of his left arm. if you want, i my be able to get some pics of him up. if you want to know about the thundercracker i can tell you about him too.

I just got classics starscream this weekend and I LOVE him, I hope they offer the other seeker jets like thundercracker and skywarp. I know they are offering skywarp and a repainted prime as magnus in a 2 pack but i hope they release thundercracker as well. My ONLY complaint, I wish he was a tad bigger, even if he was the same size as classics prime id be happy :woot: .

If he were as big as the Classics Prime I'd be even happier but I'm very satisfied with Starscream. Love the poseability of these figures.
