Trust and Betrayal is one of the Samurai X OVAs to tell the Jinchu/Remembrances arc of Rurouni Kenshin because they were never animated.

These characters are dressed up like Kenshin and his wife Yukishiro Tomoe who was killed by his own hand by accident. Great movie, you should check it out. But those people just look rediculous dressed up as them. Cosplay should be banned and wiped from human existance :(

This thread makes me realise just how lucky I am to have limited free time...

I have a home-made Jedi costume that I made a few years ago to wear to episodes 2 and 3, and hopefully that will be as far as I ever go. Or does Cosplay only count if the characters are of Japanese origin? If that's the case, I am still un-tainted. :p

Oaky would probably know more about this than me but I beleive in Japan it's and actual culture or a sub-culture of sorts. In America it just appears to be a type of novelty or something....something to do for fun basicly. So they don't take it as seriously as the Japanese seem to do.

That's my take on it anyway......

Also, I think that the quality of Japanese cosplayer's costumes is largely to do with the fact that there are a lot of perfectionists over there. Most people here in the 'states simply grab some cardboard and electrical tape, and then call it a day.

Actually, a very good amount of cosplayers costumes over there are store bought. When your costumes are being professionally manufactured they tend to turn out well.

The Japanese tend to look down on "ugly" cosplayers as well. The typical attitude is if you're not pretty then you shouldn't be cosplaying.

Also, the general public considers most cosplayers otaku (remember being an otaku is a pretty bad thing over there.) Cosplaying is kinda restricted to certain places and events. You won't see them walking the streets or going beyond the walls of the cosplay event/convention in costume. They get dressed/undressed at the event because they wouldn't dare wear their costume on the train or in public. It's a pretty standard practice for the cosplay events to have dressing booths setup for them.

I've only seen one picture of an "Ultimate Cosplay" and that was a Sephiroth, I swear the guy looked the part. He had every detail right down to the one black wing.:up:

On a side note, American Otakus need to shower more often:(. I went to Otakon one year and I was stuck between two of them in line.....it was like a funk sandwich.

I'm pretty sure everyone bathed... but because of all of the bodies there, it's kinda hard not to sweat, and when you get thousands of people (last year, supposedly a/b 22,000 people showed up) with all that sweat, paint, makeup, latex, starch, and the like, it's gonna magnify buy crap loads.

It was so god damn hot in the hallways that I was sweating everywhere!! I was ducking into to random a/v rooms, just to get some cool air... I would pick the empty ones though, because there were less bodies, so more cool air.

But nothing beats being there. It's always awesome to stand in a line to go to a VA panel ( I got to meet the VA's for Ed in fullmetal, some chic that did stuff I wasn't into, and the major for GITS.) and ya'll having deep discussions on anime, while you're raining sweat on each other, and someone stinky walks pass...

Just great.

I enjoyed it I may or may not go ths year..have to see if any of my friends or my g/f(she likes anime) want to go.

...but its very true they can be very nasty when you ask a question about anime...especially "who are you dressed as? or if you prononce something incorrectly. I misprounced 'Chobits' and this girl got a real case of the ass.

The worst place for fanboy/fangirl (yes, I've smelled some rank fangirls before) funk is in the game/arcade room. My God does it ever stink in those rooms!

I hate when your just standing somewhere and someone passes by you and then all of a sudden this wave of disgusting funk hits you. :eek:

I think I've figured it out.

I'm wearing them Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, I'm doing a Black and White theme. On Saturday I'm doing a Red and Black Theme.

For Friday: The Boots, with black and white striped knee high socks, a black skirt that stops about mid thigh or near my knee's, and a frilly white underskirt (for the poof factor.) As far as the top goes, I'm not sure... I'm also going to petsmart to buy a spike dog color to wear with it, and I'm probably going to wear black or white arm warmers.

For Saturday: The Boots, red or balck fishnets. I'm not quite sure how much red I want in the outfit yet. I'm going to wear a black skirt, same length as the one I'm wearing Friday, with a red frilly uderskirt, like Friday. The shirt, still undecided. Around my neck, I have this vision of buying fabric, tying it into an elaborate bow (think of the bows you see on the back of prom gowns, or wedding dreses) in read.

I'm wearing my hair in long pigtails or buns (like pig tails).

I'm painting my nails black, and I'm wearing elaborate makeup to match my outfits.
And I kinda want a lollipop to go with my outfits...

Sunday, will be a bum day.
