Anyway, I read the Runnaways thing. All in all, the casting choices weren't that bad. Except for Molly. The actress they picked for Molly was too old.

He is way too jocky for Chase. And Karolina is suppose to be a little bit of a blonde. But Lindsay Lohan is not good for Karolina. And the youngest one from 7th Heaven is defintely not Molly imo.

Alex Wilder -- Percy Daggs III -- The hair at first, but checking out this guys performance, he's got all the subtleties necessary to insinuate evil while doing all the right things.

Nico Minoru -- Maggie Q -- Talented through and through. A bit old at 26, but so are most of the asian actresses out nowadays. I just like her eyes.

Karolina Dean -- Michelle Trachtenberg -- Tall, beautiful, looks good blonde, and I simply see her in this part and owning it happily. And I'd buy her as a lesbian... you know what I mean.

Gertrude Yorkes -- Daveigh Chase -- Something about the whole dumpy-girl who is secretly hot really sticks with her, not to mention the intrigue of the combination of a long filmography, smart sassy characters and the creepy kid from horror movies. I see her doing Gert serious justice.

Molly Hayes -- Dakota Fanning -- Watch one of her movies. Any one. She's devestating. She puts all other actresses to bed. Even those three and four times her age.

Old Lace -- Andy Serkis :P -- Actually, I'm kinda series, this guy GETS animalistic gestures, and having him in charge of Old Lace's head turns, position changes and general gait and reactions would be a VERY good idea.

It's amazing. Noggin/The N has a severe lack of Asian-Canadian/American actresses on their shows. The place is a breeding ground for Runaways casting hopefuls (most of their teen dramas cast real teens), but Nico would have to be an actress I've never heard of.

Regardless, I like Haley Ramm a lot, she seems a bit old for our first Molly, but still cool... Sarah Steele from Spanglish would have been perfect, but she seems to have lost the weight that makes Gert stand out a bit... and Spenser doesn't sit quite right with me... I think she could do it though, honestly...

I'd say that Runaways has a lot more going for it than at least three of the proposed Marvel proposed projects (Ant-Man, Power Pack and Hawkeye).

The only trouble with a live action Runaways is that you really could only do the one movie and then all of your actors/actresses would be too old should they want a second movie.

Harry Potter movies are supposed to have the cast get older as they progress through school. Having the cast of Runaways look older in future movies would diminish the whole "lost innocence" idea.

Amber Tamblyn strikes me as a great choice for Gert, as I said before, Sarah Steele looked like Gert for Spanglish, but is definitely too skinny now...

Alyson Stoner is one of my favorite Mollys, but she's a bit old now...

And while I love Brenda Song, and I think Katie Leung could do a good job as Nico as well, they're both minors, and it feels odd having such young actors with such old actors... I think the casting should be a bit more even... either go young or go older...

Honestly, I almost always hate threads like this, as generally, people will post insane casting ideas that do not mesh well or fit in any way shape or form in regards to the source material.

But, granted I have no idea whom the actors listed without photos are, the majority actors photos that have been posted are perfect casting choices. Nice thread. 2 thumbs up.

But Runaways is a story about teenagers. Granted Spider-Man was a teenager in the first movie, but it was more about him becoming a hero. Runaways is a story about a bunch of kids. I'd say, the highest age for the cast should only be 20-21.

The whole casting 25 as a 16 year old is bull**** because if this was some romantic teen comedy the reaction would be "great more adults playing way under their age"

And with Spiderman he was only 16 for a few scenes and then got to a point where he played an age ambiguous young adolescent, if not Harry would have only been 20-21 while running OsCorp in the second movie. The exact age didnt matter in Spidey after highschool.

ive had this talk with people on here before.. build and muscle are different... some people can try and pack on as much muscle as they want, but there build still isn't going to be that of a line backer. muscle can indeed be added.. but it usually doesn't change a persons shape (other then losing weight of course)

and lets face it... a shaggy haired blonde guy who can act and has that build, isn't very hard to find in hollywood *yawn

Whedon's a big fan of BKV. Not too eerie at all. Kristen Bell would be a great Karolina, and if there ever had been an Asian chick on VMars, we would all think that she was an excellent Nico... except for the fact that they're all too old to focus on the adults vs children conflict. They're too old to believably looks 16-18 next to someone who believably looks 12-14. And they're too old for high school roles at this point. Should we raise Gert's age, so someone older can play her?

well i can guarantee they wont cast teens in the roles... and most likely do actors who are early to mid 20s who can pass as late teens. This is due to child labor laws. it's very hard to have a group of underage people as a full cast in a movie.

I think that not including "Asian" in the Nico description was an oversight of some kind. I don't think anyone needs to worry about Nico being some white chick. As far as the "uniquely beautiful" thing goes, I think they just mean that Karolina is "conventionally beautiful," as in she's a rich blonde girl who is the daughter of movie stars. She looks like a Blake Lively type or someone like that. I hate to generalize like this, but I guess you could say Nico has a more "goth" look, so she isn't the type you see in movies or advertisements usually. Still hot, but in that "unconventionally hot" kind of way.

As for Molly, I am fairly certain they say she is like 10 years old in the comics. She is definitely years younger than any of the rest of them and is treated like a little kid.

But you also need to look at things from a business perspective as well. Runaways is a comic that, while it has a very big cult following, it still has sold on the lower end of things. Even books that are top sellers every month don't have enough readers so that if readers alone went to the films, they'd flop. Film companies need to look at how they'll appeal to the most possible viewers to draw people in, so what's a better way to do that than by possibly casting an actress from one of the most popular tv shows around today? Especially one that has more younger fans who may want to see the movie more than once. I'm not saying Jenna is the perfect choice, but they could do worse and there would be other possible added benefits for the films success should she get the role.

I would approve this.

To me, though, Runaways has enough characters and story to warrant a well done television series. I just think it would be a little hard to try to contain them in a 2 hour movie even if it does get lucky enough to provide sequels.

I don't know if Disney would give it to Brenda Song since I don't think she has ever done a non-comedic role. But she is the only Asian actress I know of from their Disney channel/Family channel group of actors.

No this is an independent production of Marvel Studios like IM and Hulk. Paramount may distribute though I don't know why they would bother now that they have access to Disney.

Paramount has absolutely no creative control over the movies. They just distribute it after it is done. It is all Marvel Studios or Disney if they choose to use their influence as the new owners.

I've only seen her on Wizards so I hated the idea but I saw a few interviews. I don't know where you saw sassy, sarcastic, but she's certainly more calm than the goofy characters she plays. I can see it.

The way I see it, it's fine to make these changes when it makes sense for the situation (Michael Clarke Duncan was an awesome Kingpin, and considering the only alternatives to changing the character's ethnicity was to have professional wrestlers play the role, then it worked out for the best), but being overly PC is something I think is ridiculous. That whole Danny Glover as Spider-Man thing was strange because there was no reason to change the character's ethnicity, especially considering there are so many African American characters that haven't even been touched, who deserve to get the spotlight before we have to resort to changing races. Between Alex, Nico, Victor, and Xavin, the Runaways are a very diverse group as it is, so I think pushing somebody into a role that isn't perfect for them is an unnecessary move.

Their Californian heritage is really all that the characters had going for them (at least when Vaughn wrote the book), so it's not necessarily about their races, but I think it's the principle of the matter, that you don't need to change a character just to fill a quota or to seem more diverse.

She would have to be Xavin. If she's any of the others it will mean Disney is calling the shots and not Marvel and would personify all the fears of the Disney takeover.

Or it will mean they decided for some reason to change the character's race like they did with Fury, Hiemdall, Kingpin, etc...


I'm hoping Palmer will be playing Xavin, because she's not that good of an actress to warrant changing the race of an established character. The way I see it, it's fine to make these changes when it makes sense for the situation (Michael Clarke Duncan was an awesome Kingpin, and considering the only alternatives to changing the character's ethnicity was to have professional wrestlers play the role, then it worked out for the best), but being overly PC is something I think is ridiculous. That whole Danny Glover as Spider-Man thing was strange because there was no reason to change the character's ethnicity, especially considering there are so many African American characters that haven't even been touched, who deserve to get the spotlight before we have to resort to changing races. Between Alex, Nico, Victor, and Xavin, the Runaways are a very diverse group as it is, so I think pushing somebody into a role that isn't perfect for them is an unnecessary move.

I'm all for the characters being as they are in the book, but I don't see how changing Kinpin was okay but changing whatever character Keke might play isn't. Having a wrestler play the role was NOT the only alternative.

If indeed Keke was cast, her role through the process of elimination would most likely be that of Karolina. Keke doesn't fit the Gertie or Molly descriptions and Marvel has gone on record expressing that they indeed want an asian actress for Nico. Keke could fit the "conventionally beautiful, with an unchecked ego" criteria.

im aware.... but that's just the core of all the characters. not everyone who will appear in the film.. xavin could always have a small role

I'm with JP here. We can not judge alot of people on one acting merit. Most people only deem certain people unnecessary nowadays because ''Eww they were in that franchise I don't like, so therefore they can only be like they were in that one franchise!"

Recent case in point: Anna Kendrick, everyone was hating on her because of Twilight and now everyone's all ''Wow. This girl can actually act!" thanks to Up in the Air and Scott Pilgrim.
