Vin would of help draw a bigger crowd to the box office. But who know what Fox would have to pay him. And If Ioan got help for his accent so could Vin.

I highly doubt that would be to much of a problem. Since Vin for a long time now has said many times he would love to be the Silver Surfer I would not be surprised if he just jumps at the chance

Well this choice sucks, I mean.... Vin Diesel doesn't have white eyes....how the hell is he supposed to play Silver Surfer? I'm boycotting the movie....
Ever heard of contacts ? Or post production ? Jessica is not white and blonde like Sue in the comic, but she did fine, and Alecia is not african american in the comics, but Kerry did fine, and I look forward to her having a bigger role, and wern't you the one talking about everyone getting all worked up over rumors, and speculation ?

Silver Surfer is holding back 95 percent of the time. Most of the time he doesn't want to hurt anyone. Why would you hire an actor based on the rare times when Surfer gets super-pissed? That's like hiring a comedian to play Bruce Wayne because he makes one joke
I've never seen the Surfer "super-pissed" and I've never seen Vin Diesel "super-pissed". Both project a quiet confidence.
The Surfer can vaporize a person with a thought, and, until he recognizes the nobility of humanity, he shouldn't think killing a human is any different than you or I stepping on a bug.
If he isn't intimidating as hell up until the end of the film, I don't think the film-makers are doing him right.

It depends on how they use the silver surfer. If he's violent and physical (which I never thought of him as) then Vin could maybe do the role, if he's more mental like telepathic and telekinetic attacks then I don't know if Vin could do it.

Vin is a damn good choice, especially considering he's obviously a fan.
Would you rather an actor who slightly resembles SS more but has no care for the material get the role?
Spider - Man
06-22-2006, 08:51 PM
Jessica is not white and blonde like Sue in the comic, but she did fine, and Alecia is not african american in the comics, but Kerry did fine,
And the Thing is not dressed in a soft, shiny foam suit that doesn't scratch paint on the hood of a car in the comic but Chic did fine!:O
Come to think of it, if Vin IS playing SS, They BETTER make Chik bigger in the sequel or we may, for the first time see a Silver Surfer who's as big as - if not bigger than - the Thing!

Wow, I brought this up about a year ago right after the first film, and was tarred and feathered for suggesting Vin.
Glad to see people have warmed up to the idea, because I think he'd be the perfect Surfer, plus he would automatically increase the viewing audience over the first film.
As far as the Brooklyn accent, I don't think anyone had a problem with it in either of the Riddick films, so it should be fine here.
I immagine they're going to announce the casting right before comicon.

And Vin would be ok but I am a big fan of Keanu Reeves and I think that he would make a perfect Surfer. He can do his Neo "I'm so above it all" thing again.

Sarcasm really is lost on some people. That's at least two of you who thought JMAfan was serious.
Right after Michael Keaton was announced for Batman, while I was browsing at an Atlanta comics shop, I watched three fanboys practically drooling venom over this "great injustice", this horrible tragedy that had befallen their beloved Batman.
Heh. Then the movie comes out a year later and the same fanboys are there gushing endlessly over Keaton's "transcendant" and "definitive" performance.
When you read Silver Surfer's dialogue in the comics do you imagine Vin Diesels voice? If you do you don't understand the character. That's like hearing Pee Wee Herman's voice when reading Batman's dialogue.
I can't help it.
I am officially rooting for Vin Diesel to get the part of Silver Surfer.

You have got to be freaking kidding me? Vin Diesal as SS? HELL NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! Please god not him as SS. The Surfer is reagal and a thinker. Vin comes across as a thug and is not suited for the SS. Even his voice is wrong. Bring on Wentworth Miller.

I'm not sticking up for the guy....BUT everyone's opinion on this movie is going to be biased in one way or another....thats just how it is....and everyone has a right to their opinion...its not just a place for the people who enjoyed the movie, if thats the case then there are about maybe 2 people that should be here....I enjoyed it as well, but found many problems with it...and don't want a repeat of those problems in the sequel....trolling can go both ways...negative and positive....we have our share of positive trolls around here as well....its motive that makes them a troll, not their opinion....
Agree everyone is entitled to their opinion, internet has given anyone and everyone a voice, but someone’s stating their opinion is different that just repeating the movies going to suck, yes that's a statement that reflects his opinion but it's very unnecessary and it’s stretching the imagination on the definition of “opinion” allot of people call it different things mainly around here I hear "trolling" and if these forums were people only posting "FF2 is going to RULE!" or "FF2 is going to SUCK!" then these wouldn’t work, discussing the topic at hand is the new picture, stating that FF2 is going to suck is not only extremely off topic but then we just look like the retards at IMDB.

His build gave him the big bucks in action films and that's where he took his career. He's doing Hitman soon, and then Hannibal, and I hear Riddick 3 is coming and will be the film we've wanted. He had to sign up for FATF4 which is a direct sequel to the first film to get the financing he wnated for Hannibal and Riddick 3.

I think Vin could pull off the aloof Surfer before he regains his humanity. And yes, the Surfer does get pissed and violent. Remember the final issue of the 60's series where he decides to turn against humanity? That series ended with him in a complete rage... Kinda like what I think he's gonna show Doom in FF2 after the Surfer's powers are restored (just my prediction).

Vin as the SS? I'll give him a chance. Keanu, maybe. I don't have anything against either of them.I am sure there are other actors who could fill the part nicely also.
The only problem I see is the budget getting bigger if a big name is hired. With a smaller name, you would save money, but you may not get the draw a bigger name could/might.

I would love to see Vin as Silver Surfer.
Here are my reasons;
1) He has the look. Bald, and a good physique...
2) He has a very cool voice which always gets my wife all hot and bothered, which is a BIG favor for ME, after the movie! Lol.
3) Gives some credibility to the cast.
4) He's a decent box office draw. His fans will go see the movie, and thus add to the FF's overall box office.
5) He's a fan. It's always cool to have someone playing these characters who appreciates the source material, and doesnt act like they're somehow "above it" <cough cough Halle Berry cough>...

Well yeah they were supposed to make the SS film first and then Tim Story said please save it till FF3. Look like we'll get SS in FF2 & 3. It's better this way. Intro a character in a proven franchise as far as box office, and then spin him off.
I wonder how they're going to make him look. He's gonna have to be all cgi or cgi mapped. He can't be reflective like a mirror but should be close to that. It would be cool if he was reflective like a mirror in space he'd almost be invisible in the stars. Hell he would be.

Alittle about The Silver Surfer:
http://img53.imageshack.us/img53/6162/surfer27kj.gif (http://imageshack.us)
The Silver Surfer, who symbolizes the highest aspiratons of the spirit, also represents Marvel's most sincere effort to elevate the super hero genre. This noble, contemplative, unselfish character is an anomaly in the slam-bang world of comic books, and as such he has proven to be something of an acquired taste, a character who appeals primarily to older and comparatively sophisticated readers.
Ironically enough, when this benevolent alien first appeared he was working for one of the most terrifying villains in comics, the godlike being known as GALACTUS. It was the Surfer's courageous decision to defy his master that made him a hero, but for his pains he was condemned to spend his life on the planet Earth, denied all access to the endless universe he loved to explore. There are parallels here to the Biblical fall of Adam, who lost paradise in the exercise of his free will and thus was doomed to mortal misery. The Silver Surfer, however, was not tained by original sin, and remained a detached, bemused observer of human folly. As a symbol of limitless freedom dragged down by mundane reality.
The Surfer was indeed a tragic figure, yet he never lost his essential innocence. The character first appeared in 1966, drawn by Jack Kirby as an afterthought for a story that was already plotted; writer Stan Lee immediately fell in love with The Silver Surfer, and for years would allow nobody else to create his inimitably highminded dialogue. Eventually Lee and artist John Buscema invented a background for "The Sentinel of the Spaceways," and revealed that he was originally Norrin Radd, a restless inhabitant of a utopian planet. When his race was threatened by the all-consuming Galactus, Norrin Radd saved the day by offering to aid the menace in his endless quest for worlds to devour. In sacrificing himself twice, once for his own people and again for humanity, The Silver Surfer took on Christlike qualities. The selflessness that made him so admired has finally been rewarded, and today he is free to soar among the stars.
The Silver Surfer first appeared in the classic Fantastic Four #48, #49 and #50. As the original Herald of Galactus, the Silver Surfer searches across the galaxy to find planets with enough energy to fulfill Galactus's appetite. Soaring through the Milky way the Surfer happens across the planet Earth. Unknown to Galactus and the Surfer, the Watcher had traveled to Earth to warn the Fantastic Four of the Coming of Galactus. After signaling Galactus, the Surfer battles with the Fantastic Four. In battle, the Surfer is knocked off of the Baxter Building and lands in the apartment of Alicia Masters. Alicia convinces the Surfer that the planet Earth is worth saving. Fully recovered from his earlier battle, the Surfer challenges Galactus pleading for him to look for a different planet to devour.
Galactus ignores the Silver Surfer's request and begins the process of destroying the planet Earth.Galactus is finally stopped by the Fantastic Four when the Human Torch breaks into Galactus's starship and steals the Ultimate Nullifier, a super powerful weapon. Mr. Fantastic threatens to destroy Galactus with the Ultimate Nullifer if he does not stop his attempt to consume the planet Earth. Defeated in battle, Galactus swears to never harm the Earth again. In fury over the Silver Surfer's betrayal, Galactus dooms the Silver Surfer to be confined to the planet Earth forever.

A Man Apart? That's an old ass film. That was originally called Diablo and got tied up in litigation over the title of the film with a video game company. The film completed before Vin Diesel was even known. Just after Pitch Black...and it was released years later. Despite the fact it had zero budget and a copycat story to Brian Singers Usual Suspects...it was still a decent film. Why are you typing in bold large print in an irritating font? LOL

Just because he's bald doesn't mean he can play the part well.
He's entirely too big and his voice is too gravelly. Doesn't fit in with how Surfer is typically depticted in the comics; he's usually very sleek, something Diesel is not.

Why cast Vin Diesel other than the fact than he's bald?
Yeah exactly there's no other reason! :down
and Vin Diesel persona doesn't fit the Silver Surfer's personality. He's closer to the Thing (mean tough guy with a deep gravely voice) than he is to a innocent and child-like, compassionate, surfer.

I willing to bet that Vin does play SS
too much is adding up IMO
FF2 starts shooting in just over a month.......... no annouchment yet on who will be playing him..... so it makes you think that they are waiting to tell us, raise the hype, so it's going to be a big star....... and they need a big star for this movie.... Alba is basically the only huge name attached right now, the rest are not A list IMO
Vin isn't shooting anything untill late this year, leaves a big opening in his sched...... plus he wants to play the role, and he needs the role IMO to bring him back to the "action star" status that he kind of lost after doing not so great movies (riddick, man a part, find me guilty).......

It's not hard. When I was at the gym I weight in at 155-158lbs an had 15.5 arms. sometime later I had drop to 135lbs with 13.5 arms. My friends who haven't seen me in awhile said I used look big now I look sick. My friend at the gym is a bodybuilder(trying to get his procard) He is 5"9" 270lbs( 12% bodyfat) off season weight. Same build as Diesel except his neck is a bit longer so it makes him look a bit sleeker than he really is. Though most of the older drawings doesn't portray him as muscular the same can be said for almost every Marvel character. They all went on roids in the late 80's.

Cool! I think the thing this illustrates is that the Surfer's look lends itself to CGI (I think the reason the Terminator character resembled the Surfer was partially because that look was easy to pull off with early CGI).
Even with current CGI, I've never seen completely realistic movement, so I hope the use an actor with a green suit and then overlay it rather than trying to make the character completely CGI.

Does anybody know where this came from, why it was made, who made it, etc.? I can't make out anything in those teeny little credits.
And did everybody catch the extra bit at the end of those credits, where the protective-suited guys are trying to take the doll away from the kid again?

What normally happens is, when a set of new pics comes up, they get their own thread for awhile, we discuss and then they get archived in the character threads....which in my opinion is where they belong....if we have a pic thread for each character we get a very cluttered front page, whereas the discussion can come and go and the pics can get archived as they come....
Just a suggestion.....doesn't really matter to me....

That is not how the SS was in the early issues of FF. It reminded me too much of the T 1000 in Terminator 2. I don't like that liquid silver look for the SS. The trailer was so so, but for 1984 standards, not too bad. Like Corman's FF movie. Awfull, joke, but for 1994 and 1.5 million, not too bad conisidering.

He was very curious and explored humanity. He wasn't some raging maniac however I doubt the first thing he do when zooming the Earth is stop a bully. LOL Still it's just a student film.

I never was able to find the short-lived SS cartoon back when it ran on tv. I'm curious to see how they handled his "conversion" when he reached Earth without the involvement of the FF. There's no question the Surfer's origin can be "re-imagined" that way, but I'm so relieved he's making his debut in FF2, with at least a semblance of the intro his character received back in FF#48.
It will really be something if they manage to do this up right.
It's too bad the FF cartoon of the early 90's totally botched their own chance at adapting the story. I cringe just thinking about that toon's goofy version of Galactus, particularly the supreme moment of badness when he literally licked his lips as he declared, "Now, it is time for Galactus to feed!" Ugh. The FF cartoon got so much better in its second year.
Too bad they'd already run most of the viewers off.

I checked the same site just now, searching for "Silver Surfer" and something truly weird popped up: A European rock opera based on the Surfer's tale.
No kidding. I'm assuming in this mercifully brief clip that SS is talking to Galactus, who is represented by a bank of eerie lights:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzKPwwEi4BA&search=silver%20surfer
I've heard about this film for years and just had a hunch and searched on Youtube and there it was. Amazing little short film. Considering it was made in1984 it's freaking amazing. This is a must see. Imagine this trailer done with a big budget. The scene with the military tracking it should totally be in FF2.

The end credits say 1993.
Was it shot in 1984 and released in 1993?
In the other hand IMDb says 1994: http://akas.imdb.com/title/tt0240898/
But you can clearly see 1993 at the beginning of the credits and at the end.

Yea. Cool's in, sticking to the original is out. :down I don't like it, but that is prob what we'll get. Looks exactaly like the T 1000. Ok for T2, but not Surfer. You have an icon, and you want to mess around with it.

I was thinking "Silver Surfer" the moment I saw the "metallic liquid" effect in T2. Seeing it applied, albeit roughly, to his character in this low buget film gives me real hope for the new movie.
I hope they don't lose the focus on the FF, but I think it's almost a certainty the Surfer is gonna steal the show.

Just to clarify, that wasn't made in 1984. It was made in the 90's. It was put online a few years back.
Those types of effects weren't even available until after T2 in 1991, and the logo was from the SS comic book which was launched in 1987.
And you'll note that the toy is from T2 as well.

Washington on the Fantastic Four Sequel
Source: MTV
June 29, 2006
MTV chatted with Kerry Washington about returning as Alicia Masters in the Fox sequel Fantastic Four and The Silver Surfer:
"It probably will be darker," revealed actress Kerry Washington, who will return as blinded Thing paramour Alicia Masters in the 2005 film's sequel. "They have handed in two different scripts, and they are trying now to take the best of both. So we're not exactly sure yet what it's going to look like." Two factors that are certain to be in the movie, however, are planetary devourer Galactus and his gray-skinned herald. "You would think that the Silver Surfer would be its own movie franchise, because people really love that character," Washington said of the Surfer/Galactus story line that will intersect with the characters of returning stars Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, Ioan Gruffudd and Michael Chiklis. "I think it's really exciting that they're bringing that to 'Fantastic Four.' I think it'll be huge."
Fantastic Four and The Silver Surfer is scheduled for a June 15, 2007 release.

Give the author a break. He/she probably read through the paragraph and, realizing that it said Silver multiple times and tried to use some different wording so it didn't seem so redundant.
And if you read the quotes, you can clearly see that is the author's wording, not Kerrie's.

Heh. I can understand the alarm, though.
I hope the powers-that-be have at least some notion just how sacred a cow they're dealing with here, adapting Galactus & SS to film.
The Galactus Trilogy is probably the most widely revered story in the history of Marvel Comics, not just the FF.
It's going to be a very interesting 11 months.
I still say that it isn't really important (well of course it has to someone talented but you get the point) who plays SS 'cause it's probably gonna be like Gollum from LotR. You don't know who the fkc plays him unless you watch the credits. There could be different voice actor too. Kinda like Abe Sapien.

I think Marvel started second guessing itself because of the Hulk but the CGI was not the Hulk's problem. In fact I thought it was awesome. The Thing while voiced greatly by Chik should have been all CGI as well. Then he could really look fast, mobile, strong, whatever instead of someone trapped inside a cumbersome suit who can't take more than 4 steps during an action scene.
