Yes, good work. I was really jacked when I met and got a picture with Frank Gorshin (The Riddler) a few years ago at Sardis after a Broadway show he was in. I remember how excited I was about meeting a childhood hero even though my wife didn't get it. I didn't have a forum to share it on at the time.
Again, pretty cool.

The part with "pale man" above was spooky as all hell. I wanted to see more of him. Also anyone else notice that in Blade 2, Hellboy, and now in Pan's Del Toro has a scene with blood flowing through that same circular maze like symbol. Also his creatures in Hellboy, Mimic, Blade, and Pan's have striking similarities in look and sound.
Yep - Guillermo has a fascination with that labyrinthine image, and if you look at the Faun's brow you'll see it echoed in a simplified Iberian/Celtic design. GdT keeps notebooks of all of his ideas which are an amazing record of his work - stunning, and certainly incredibly rare.
Pale Man began as an incredibly old, wrinkled obese man who had lost a lot of weight, then he became a thin, wrinkled creature with skin that hung in lappets. The eyes in the palms came about because Guillermo remembered as a child drawing around his fingers and hands and putting eyes in the digits and palms. He's also influenced by artists such as Bocklin and Goya, surrealists who have influenced his work throughout his career.
I do have some pictures from DDT Efectos Especiales of Doug being made up as both the Faun and Pale Man, and hope to put them up on the site fairly soon.
And on a personal note, GdT is a dream to deal with when it comes to promoting movies and keeping in touch with fans. Fox should take lessons.

As Vader said, " Impressive. Most impressive". Good job guy. :woot: Doug fits the part of the Surfer to a tee. He's got the poses down, and facial expressions. A tribute to his many talents.

At first I did not know who he was. Then I did some research, saw the charactors he had played. I always though he had the right build, tall and skinny, but had no clue about his acting skills, just like I had no clue how Chilkis would do as The Thing. I'm very pleased with how both charactors have turned out, and once again excelent casting. :woot:

Go figure.
Well we knew the trolls, and detractors would come crawling out from under the rocks sonner or later. Of course the SS will be the highlight, and draw to this film. Kids will eat it up. Kids + parents + seeing it more than once = money.

I was always under the impression that Galactus will make his appearance just at the end of the movie just as F4 and SS are breathing a sigh of relief after defeating Doom only to have Galactus show up.

It weird. This is FF's second film, but at the same time it's an introduction for SS (which may lead off into his own franchise), and because of this lots of attention is being brought to SS. Script wise, I just hope they remember that this is supposed to be FF's film, and SS is just a supporting character in the overall FF story.
But yeah, to be honest...at this point, I'm more interested in this film because of SS, more than anything, and I've heard many others who say they want to see this for SS alone. Of course the marketing and title is catering to SS more than anything at this point, so when we see more footage of the FF team, I'm sure I'll want to see this film for both the FF and SS.
Sorry for overusing FF and SS, but you know the deal :p

I would prefer they hint at him, and explain what he's all about rather than show him in his full glory in the FF film. If SS gets his own franchise, then that'd be a better place to show him, IMO.

I wasnt talking about the torch catching SS sunshine, calm down, i was talking about the part were Johnny flies past the cars and they all turn over, yet the people all around dont get thrown over as well, i just thought that bit was stupid.
LOL... hey you are actually right about that. Didn't notice that.
HMMM could it be 'cause he was closer to the cars than the others !?
AND
I think Getchaman is right... I mean that's the feel I got from the Teaser. Surfer was... well... sky surfing around... not caring or even noticing Torch until in the tunnel... then he's like... is that pest actually following me... so he goes faster... Torch does as well... n Surfer is like... what the hell... that bug IS following me... won't even let me sky surf in fun.
So as soon as Jhonny comes close he turns... grabs him... flies and shows him who'se boss.

You Rock! what a great story, love how you gave into pleasing the people you were with and not yourself by ending your wait in line. A lesson for all of us on sacrfice for others, you then are rewarded later by a chance meeting
"Carma!" ha haWhen I first got the invite for the screening of Pan's Labyrinth on Myspace I was really excited. I was dying to get in on it even though it was first announced as a midnight showing. When the tickets finally went on sale I missed out on the Midnight showing but I also noticed a 10:00 PM showing as well. Doug & John had mentioned I believe on their site that Doug would be doing a Q & A with the fans before the midnight show so I figured I'd just buy the tickets for the early show and catch Doug after. Keep in mind I've never been to the ArcLight before and assumed it was some small historic theatre in Hollywood. Anyways soon after buying the tickets I found out Doug was not only doing the intro before the Midnight showing but also a q & a after that show. I was gonna miss out. Then just a couple days before today I also find out he's doing a meet and greet (thanks to Zander) and to show up at 9:00 PM to get autographs, etc...So being an hour and a half away my wife, my friend & his wife, and I took off around 6:30 PM for Hollywood thinking we'd have enough time to eat and make the meet at greet. We of course hit a "sig alert" and didn't make it to Hollywood till about 8:00 PM. We had 7:30 reservations at the Gardens of Taxco but they still let us in. (Great food by the way). After getting done around 9:00 PM with dinner we zipped over to the ArcLight which was basically a very modern megaplex theatre. I walk in and the first thing I noticed is the big tree from Pan's, and then off to the Right there's Doug signing posters and having pics taken w/people. I think someone was filming the whole thing too. Then I saw the freaking line. The movie started in about 35 minutes and the line was wrapped around the theatre like a giant snake with gaps in the line so people could pass through to the movie they were going to see. I got in line realizing I'd never make it to the front before the movie started and I didn't drive this far to miss the movie that I dragged my friend and his wife to. So I got out of line (pissed off) and went to my assigned seat (front and center) probably the best seats in the house. Next thing I know some camera's come in and Doug is doing a intro to the 10PM showing too. ( I have a short cell phone video of this if you want to see it I'll youtube it) He bascially just introduced himself, the characters he played from his roles in Mimic (didn't know that), Hellboy, Benchwarmers, Buffy, etc...He did not mention Silver Surfer at all...it wasn't about that. Before he left he said he was then going to come back in at 12:05 AM and do a Q & A. He then left and the movie started. I' m not going to give a detailed review of this film other than to say it's a masterpiece. Del Toro hit this one out of the park. I doubt it'll be a blockbuster but it will get Del Toro and Jones the attention they deserve. A stunning film that is a pleasure to watch...even with subtitles. I looked over to my friend and his wife, then to my wife and knew nobody really wanted to stay. It was late and my eyes were closing from exhaustion as well. I had a 1 1/2 hour drive back home still too. I was holding two pics in my hand I was gonna have Doug sign, and I wanted to get a pic of Doug doing his Silver Surfer pose. You know the one where the SS is first seen phasing out of the building. Seeing the movie was great but I missed out on a great opportunity. So I'm walking out of the theatre door and here comes Doug and I think his rep Zander along with some camera people dragging their stuff into the theater I just left to do his Q & A. I stopped and said "Hey Doug". He turned and walked towards me and before I could say a thing he goes..."You're Advanced right?" He recognized me from my myspace photo's. Also he thanked me for my support on Superherohype (He does read these boards guys!) LOL I shook his hand and he didn't rush away even though he had a few hundred people waiting a few minutes longer. I told him how great the film was and right before I said goodbye I said "Doug I gotta ask you a favor. I want a photo of you doing a particular pose you know..." Next thing I know the guy is doing the pose in the hallway of the theatre with loads of people walking by probably wondering what the hell is going on. My wife tried to take the pic but her phone cam wasn't working and Doug was having a very hard time holding the pose. She finally go the camera going and he got in the pose again...and I got it!!! He then took the time to take a photo with me and my friend, and then sign both of my pics I printed off the net. He then shook our hands and said "We gotta do this again!" Then he took off. There really couldn't be a nicer more down to Earth person. I hope to meet him again but here he is: (Keep in mind these are cell phone pics.)

***If someone can brighten/enhance these photo's...please do so!***
I did miss the Q & A an didn't have time to ask any more questions but the Q & A was filmed and I'd imagine it'll show up online or on the Pan's DVD so we won't miss it.
BTW keep in mind how tall Doug is so for him to get that low...in that pose...was not easy to hold let alone keep a smile. LOL

I don't think that was a mistake, I think that that was a response to the direction of the wake that the surfer made and johnny's draft exacerbated. They do have some control but johnny may have been at fault with letting his draft catch the cars, going too fast after the silver bullet lol. Someone could have been inside, we see the loss of control in the tunnel as well due to the speed of the chase.
Finally the guys are taking some creative liscense as obviously with the theme of the film no one is going to get hurt (i think).
I think that is what Tim was going for and that that is not a mistake.
As obvious as that was to us I am sure it was to them.

Its gotta be a mistake, there are people as close to Johnny and SS as the cars were, the cars were all tipped over with ease, and the people should have been thrown back. Its a bad mistake and the first movie was riddled with them, i just hope this movie doesnt have the same mistakes riddled throughout as it would ruin the movie for me and i want this to be a good movie.

Just got back a little while ago. Cool little horror shop in Burbank. Got there early so ate over at champs and then walked back over. There was a decent size line in there but Doug took his time with each person. Zander was there and I finally got to meet him and talk to him for a bit. Then I got to Doug and (yes I brought my real camera) however I can't find the freaking cord to hook it up to my computer and the stupid memory card isn't readable by my scanner so I can't share it with you just yet. Let me tell you though I got a bad ass pic of Doug with me and my buddy again, and Zander took it for us. To my surprise right next to Doug signing autographs was the lady from Kingpin. You know the landlord lady who was also in Something About Mary. She was there signing for Snakes on a Plane and I got a funny pic of her too. If you remember Kingpin you'll know exactly what she's doing in the pic...to give you a hint it invoves two of her fingers. Her name is Lin Shaye. Nice lady and got her to sign a copy of Snakes on a Plane and a pic from Kingpin. Anyways Doug was as nice as ever, I got my first "Dougie Hug" LOL and the rest will have to wait till I can post the pic. It's probably one of the funniest pics of him that'll be on the net. Really fun guy. He also signed a Pan's poster for me which he wrote..."Thanks for all your Support. Doug Jones (Pan, Pale Man). I'm sure I'll see him again in May at the ComicCon. The coolest thing about Doug is that he's genuine and makes you feel like he'd sit down and talk with you for hours about his work if he could.
Oh one more thing and I'm not gonna say anything more than this:
He had a very very cool jacket with him. ;) I'll leave it at that.
That's it. Pic to come. Later.
Edit: Shadowcat I totally forgot again until I left. I'll leave a message for Doug on myspace now. I'm sorry. I could have gotten lots of sigs too I'm sure if I asked.
In the meantime here's a pic of the place I was at. This pic was not taken by me:

Hey, what have Hellmistress and I been saying about Doug? He's one of the sweetest human beings on the planet.:D Glad to hear you had a good time and got to spend some time with Doug, AD.
What Comic Convention happens in May? BTW, keep in mind that Hellboy 2 is supposed to start filming in May/June.
As for my pic, just have your wife write the question across your forehead next time and then Dougie can read it for himself. ;):D

Doug certainly is the kindest, gentlest and most decent human being you could ever hope to meet, and also one of the hardest working fellows in the biz. A gentleman and a scholar. :D
Doug reckons it will probably be June before filming on HBII begins, but his time may be taken up before then on another project. I guess we'll have to wait and see. ;)

I agree completely Morgoth, but C'mon, we've both been round long enough to know that, sadly, folk on these boards will always find something to latch onto and complain about in these movies. It's just the way it is.
I wish it weren't so, but it is...........
MOST people complain (though some do just to troll, but they are a minority IMO) people they dont want a mistake ridden movie like the first one, they want to see mistakes corrected or at least an attempt. The first movie was riddled with silly mistakes, and the part in the teaser were SS and Johnny fly in between the people and cars on the street and the cars get tipped over yet nothing happens to the people is a bad mistake IMO. I hope this doesnt turn out like the first movie.

Nope. Not AVATAR. Doug might or might not have a project before HB2 - he has a few things on the horizon and it all depends on his shooting schedule with HB2 etc. It might get a bit tight for timing, as he hasn't even signed yet to play Abe again, although I'm pretty sure all will be well on that front. But he'll have fittings and stuff to undergo with Spectral Motion, and it can be very time consuming.

DJ: We can tap dance all around it, if you need to.
C: Sometimes it’s more fun to get the answer that is not an answer. But, we can talk about the FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER trailer, because the trailer is out there now. It’s a great trailer, it’s a unique approach to trailer making, especially for an action film. What do you think about it, first of all?
DJ: Oh, I love the trailer. I put myself in an audience member’s position, and I thought, That gave me the exact tease that I need to want to know more about the Silver Surfer character, where does he come from, what are his powers, and, Wow! he was so agile and strong. He took Johnny Storm down like it was no problem, like he was an insect. So, like, Wow! I need to see more of that.
C: Was that the first time you’d seen the finished Surfer like that?
DJ: I saw a film test of it back before the movie was ever made. We go back to a lot of preproduction work, and so I did see about a five-second snippet with the combination of practical, digital effects, and my work involved. It was a close-up of the Surfer. I was just blown away when I saw that, and then to see him on film in the trailer was, like, Woo-hoo!, you know, goose-bumpy for me.
C: I know you did your research on the history of the Surfer, and the character has an almost religious cult-like following and has for decades. Why do think that is, first of all, and, second, Did you feel any sort of extra pressure to really nail this guy?
DJ: Without a doubt, yes. Again, just like what happened for me in HELLBOY, I wasn’t familiar with the comic book. I had to go back and look at Abe Sapien and see why people love him so much. With this one, it was, like, okay, Silver Surfer, I’m not up on my comic book history, I’m sorry, I feel terrible about this. The fans should hate me for that, but when I went to a comic book store right here in Burbank, Calif., and I talked to the kid behind the counter, and I said, Silver Surfer, please tell me what you got, he was, like, Omigosh. Seeing his excitement said to me, That’s probably what people think, and I’ve got to remember that. He gave the Essentials book that was the first 18 volumes of the “Silver Surfer” stand-alone comic. He also gave me The Fantastic Four Essentials, where the Surfer was introduced. I think it was lines 48, 49, 50, something like that. So, I went back and saw how he was introduced and then seeing his origins and all. My god, I fell in love with this character so fast. Not only is he stunningly beautiful. I love his inner turmoil. He’s gotten his power, and he’s on his mission as a herald for Galactus, reluctantly. It was all done to save his own people and his own planet.
C: Yeah, it’s a tragic backstory for sure.
DJ: A tragic backstory, right. And, he carries that with him every day with his silent, strong, stoic angst. Love that. And, by the way, these are all things that I am not. So, I had to really buckle down and throttle back, as much as I like to express, and just let the eyes talk, and let a stance, and lower the voice and speak slower and more directly, and trust and feel that that was enough, that he was getting his point across. He didn’t need to do more because he is all that powerful. So, that was interesting for me as a character to delve into. But also, the beloved-ness of him and how much the fans love him put so much pressure on me, but in a good way. In a good way that, hopefully, my main concern is what the fans think, especially when I’m in this kind of a genre film. I know that the fans…
C: They’re going to make or break the movie.
DJ: Right.
C:…and putting this kind of icon in this film. The character has surpassed his place of his origin. In a lot of ways over the years, his image is bigger than The Fantastic Four image. I’m sure there have been a lot more T-shirts with him on it than the Fantastic Four.
DJ: Yeah, right. But, at the end of the day, I need to know that the fans are happy with what I’ve done more so than the studio. I love working for my employers, so don’t get me wrong, and I respect their opinions and all that, but we’re making this for the people who buy the tickets. The people who are buying tickets for this movie are going to be made up of a lot of people who know the comic book character, love the comic book character, and want to see him remain pure on film. So, that meant a lot to me, that I do my part to see that that happens, whatever small part that was in the whole process.
What resonates with me in this character is that he is so very Christ-like with his sacrificial beginnings. Throughout the comic books, I love how he speaks with such truth, and seeking truth and justice and purity and righteousness. And, he’s a champion for the underdog, and the human beings he has contact with throughout his stories are so inspired by him as a role model. Again, that put responsibility on me as well, because I’m thinking, once this film comes out, and if people equate even a little bit of Doug Jones with the character, that puts a certain responsibility on me when I’m out in public even, which I hope I can live up to. Again, whatever small part I played in this process, I hope I can live up to it.
C: As far as you know, it’s your voice we’re going to be hearing as the Surfer?
DJ: I would say, So far so good. Because he’s otherworldly, so many things are in process and so many decisions are being made as they happen. We don’t know…and again, the pressure of this character has made a committee-effect happen from the top on down, with lots of opinions being thrown in along the way and a very collaborative effort, I would say. So, that would include the voice, and the voice I was giving them on set, everyone responded very favorably to. My co-stars loved it, Tim story, the director, loved what I was doing, so…but, the question remains, is that too human? So, to synthesize him a tad, whether it’s a voice with a treatment, whether it’s a complete synthesized, generated voice—none of that’s really been answered that I’ve heard yet.
C: That’s one of the many things that you can’t tell from the trailer either.
DJ: I do what I can do when I’m doing the part. After that, what happens in post-production, both visually and audibly, is out of my hands, and really is none of my business.
C: All of the things you’ve said about the Surfer’s backstory—can you say, is that dealt with in the film?
DJ: No, you’re not going to see much. I think he’s introduced in the film much like he’s introduced in the comic book.
C: Okay, just flying in and…
DJ: He comes to earth on his usual, standard, everyday mission for Galactus, seeking out planets that are consumable and destroyable that have the right energy that Galactus can feed on.
C: So, does Galactus play a role in the film? Is he seen in the film?
DJ: Well, that’s where you’re going to get a very nebulous quote from me. All I can say is that you can’t really introduce the Silver Surfer on film without Galactus as some sort of presence.
C: We all know that the Surfer is not a villain. He may have been fighting the Fantastic Four initially, but he’s not a villain.
DJ: No, he’s not on an evil mission to control the universe himself, no, no. Even Galactus, I think, is just hungry, you know. We all need to eat, right?
C: Very true. Okay, you were talking about how the Surfer's backstory is dealt with. He comes in as the harbinger of Galactus. Is his backstory dealt with?
DJ: "Touched on" is the phrasing I would use, but not exposed or shown. There's no need for it in this one. Hopefully, if we get the chance to do a stand-alone film, we can delve more into that.
C: Is that something that has been discussed as a possibility?
DJ: It hasn't been discussed with me as far as, here's a script, here's what we want to do with the character. And this is just me and my opinion, but it would be great to see happen, wouldn't it?
C: Even before the Fantastic Four movies came out, the idea of a Silver Surfer movie has certainly come up over the years. I like that they're introducing the character in a Fantastic Four movie, since that keeps it more faithful with the source material. I should have asked you this when we were talking about the trailer, but the one concern that was voiced about it was that we see the Surfer's eyes. Have you heard this?
DJ: Oh my gosh, the eyes have been talked about constantly. And the opinion is going back and forth, because of course in the comic book they were all white. I don't know, but being that I'm not a comic book purist, I kind of like seeing pupils and irises because I get more of a window to perform that way. That's my personal feeling, but everyone's going to differ on this one. And what you see in the trailer and what the finished product might be could be slightly different.
C: If that's all people are talking about, you're in pretty good shape.
DJ: Exactly. If it comes down to an iris, we're doing pretty good.
C: Okay, we'll get you off the hot seat as far as the Silver Surfer goes. I noticed that you had done some music videos in the past…
DJ: I love music videos, love them.
C: I noticed that you'd done work with Madonna, Marilyn Manson. Who else?
DJ: My favorite one is Red Hot Chili Peppers. It was a song called "Soul To Squeeze" [a song introduced on the CONEHEADS Soundtrack].
C: Oh sure. The circus-themed one.
DJ: Right. The traveling carnies from the 1930s, black and white. I was the sideshow contortionist. There were a lot of jugglers, clowns, and freaks. And I show up about five times in the video, and one of those time in an interior shot of a trailer and I'm reading a book with a swinging light bulb above me, but with my legs behind my head.
C: What Madonna video were you in?
DJ: It was from her Bedtime Stories album, and the song was called "Bedtime Story." And in that one, here I think "Yay, I'm in a Madonna video, what great exposure." There are two shots of a couple, long lanky people in black smoking jacket/bathrobe-looking things on a stone bench in a fish pond with our feet in the water. But our heads have been removed, replaced with hand mirrors with Madonna's face on them. So that was my big Madonna moment.
C: What about Manson?
DJ: There were a lot of characters in that one. I think it took place in the near future. The idea of the storyline, the dramatic moments of the video are about what people have become because of television. We've evolved with really huge eyes. So the top half of everyone's head had really big eyes. It was kind of freaky looking. There are a couple shots of me being one of the big-eyed people.

Who's that actor behind the mask?
Glen Schaefer, CanWest News Service
Published: Friday, January 19, 2007
VANCOUVER - Whoever said acting in Hollywood can give you a big head probably wasn't thinking of Doug Jones.
The Minnesota-born actor went to Los Angeles 20 years ago with a background in theatre and mime, and the idea of making it as a sitcom star. But his career course was set when he won the role of the half-moon-headed piano player Mack Tonight in a series of commercials for McDonald's restaurants.
"Boy, was I surprised when the creature effects, makeup world snatched me up," Jones said in Vancouver, where he wrapped filming on Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer last month.
The lanky actor plays the Silver Surfer in that movie, due out this summer.
Pan's Labyrinth, another movie with his character's name in the title, opens today. He plays a horned half-man, half-goat in the dark fantasy about a little girl in fascist Spain.
It all started with 27 of those commercials made over three years.
"Moving well in a big, cumbersome head became my thing," Jones says. "A lot of people came and went, doing the sculpting and designing and running of new heads. They'd remember me when they went on to the next job."
Jones brings a balletic grace to the menacing character who sets a little girl on a magical quest in Pan's Labyrinth.
He admits to some pre-filming jitters when director-writer Guillermo del Toro told him how much dialogue he would have in Spanish. The director assured him he could just count to 10, and a Spanish actor would dub the words.
"I couldn't just watch that dubbed, with the lips not matching. I spent a lot of brain time memorizing that dialogue word for word."
That's Jones's heavily made-up lower face in the movie. The top half of his head was prosthetics, with mechanical eyes and ears.
"It's like being a nursing-home patient when you're put into a costume like this, all of your senses are dulled down."
Jones had a lot to talk about with actor Michael Chiklis, stuck in a huge latex suit as The Thing in both Fantastic Four movies.
"We've been commiserating together," says Jones. "Michael didn't know the first time what he was signing on for. But watching him in the first movie, I thought he was brilliant, he really emoted through that thick, rocky-looking makeup."
In Rise of the Silver Surfer, Jones is a reluctant villain, surfing the universe as a slave to a nastier creature called Galactus, looking for planets to destroy.
"I love the Silver Surfer -- everything that he stands for, he's so valiant and stoic and heroic."
His Silver Surfer look comes from a combination of makeup and computer-generated visuals.
"He looks like a naked man dipped in silver, like the Oscar," says Jones.
"I'm interacting with the Fantastic Four quite a bit -- mostly with Jessica Alba, as Sue Storm. We have a three-page scene that's actually sweet and touching, when she's trying to get through to him."Jones is about to revisit his biggest makeup challenge so far, reprising his role as Abe Sapien in Hellboy 2, which starts filming in April in Budapest with director del Toro, who also directed Hellboy in 2004.
"It's even more (makeup) than Pan -- it took three makeup artists seven hours to make me into Abe Sapien, so by the time you're done with makeup, you've put in a full day. You're tired, you don't want to film, but you have to."
He starts his days as early as 3 a.m.
"You do have to become not only an actor, but an athlete, to physically push through a little bit of pain and discomfort, and find your performance on the other side of that."

I'm really looking forward to the scene between the Silver Surfer and Sue. I hope they don't cut it. Some good emotion and acting can really help a movie. Doug seems to think it was good enough to mention it specifically in that interview.
Oh, the folks who say the people don't move but the cars do in that scene... YOU ARE WRONG. I saw them film this scene, and for every car that pops up, the people near it got hauled back with cables. If you step the HD version of the trailer frame by frame, you can see this. (Not the cables, the pedestrians getting blown back)

I never doubted that....the portion they took for the teaser simply doesn't have the full scene.......I'm sure your integrity will be reinstated once we've seen the movie....lol:cwink:

Ugh. :down I'm not happy with that. At all.
And it's not simply because it deviates from the source material. I really want to see the actress (Kerry Washington) get used more. IMO she was totally wasted in the first film. Besides, I think the metaphoric irony of a blind woman helping an alien "see" the truth is so much more poignant than what they're going with.
Susan has enough to deal with in this film. Like....her man and family.

You are so right about this, Caliph. I am not pleased at all to see this key scene switched to Jessica's character. What is the point of Kerry being in the movie if not for the part Alicia played in swaying the Surfer into seeing that there was great potential in the human race? I certainly hope it is not limited to Kerry just being Ben's date at the wedding.
What is curious is that Doug mentions no scenes with Julian, unless of course he was told not to divulge anything.

I feel the same way. Missed opportunity for some great dialogue and scenes. Hearing this bit of news, I guess it'll be Reed that goes into a jealous fit over Sue, instead of Ben over Alicia. This smacks of "Halle and Hugh Syndrome"; I must get my stars as much screen time as possible, regardless of the story.
Kelly
01-23-2007, 08:42 AM
I don't think Reed will be jealous at all......Payne has already said that its not a love triangle......I think the tension will be in the area of Science and the fact that Reed will see the SS as a threat.....and Sue will see him as a lost soul.....
I'm actually glad that someone is finally writing Sue as the one that sees the good in the SS beyond what the others see.....thats one of the things that makes her different from the other 4, and one major part of her personality that was not touched upon AT ALL in the first movie......
I say rock on with the twist....

I am not surprised by this change. In fact, nothing I have heard has really shocked me yet. I don't like the change cause Alicia was practically not even in the first movie. She needs a bigger part. I wasn't fond of Sue's character in the first movie. I felt she was bland, so this change will help give her some character, but Alicia plays a big part in Ben's life. She needs more to do.

In keeping with my blog theme about good people doing good things or things that just make us happy, this weeks surfman goes to Mr. Doug Jones who is portraying none other than that "skyrider of the space waves", THE SILVER SURFER. I can hardley wait till The Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer is released this summer. Doug had to endure anywhere from five to seven hours in the makeup chair to prepare for his role to represent Zenn-La's prodical son and saviour. If Doug does as good a job portraying Norrin Radd, as he did Pan, than we long time Silver Surfer fans will be stoked with joy. I have been a fan of the surfer since I was a lad, owning a coveted mint copy of Vol.1,No.1 August 1968 The Orgin of the Silver Surfer, which I sold back in the 80s to pay my last months rent before graduating from university. I still own a fair copy of that issue, but I often wonder what my mint copy would go for today. I am not too sad though because the surfer saved the day when I was broke. All hail the Sentinel of the Spaceways, and fabulous actor Doug Jones as well.

there has been a lot of discussion on the big G and Doom...but none really on the Surfer beyond how great he looks in the teaser and tv spot...
I would like to hear everyones ideas as to how they will handle the Surfers story line..will we get a faithful adaption of the Coming of Galactus story line where the Surfer is trapped on Earth for defying his master or will we get a cop out (since rumors are flying of a no show for Galactus) with the Surfer leaving Earth to find a more suitable planet for his master...by doing this sparing the Earth...and sparing Fox from having to show us Galactus...
I am really excited to see this movie and hope it turns out like I am hoping..the Galactus trilogy was the first comics I ever read so I have high expectations...

Cool AD! Thanks for the link.
Doug is talented guy, and good interview.
I can totally understand why Fox would rather have Alba doing the promoting for the movie, but I don't understand why they don't want him promoting the Silver Surfer and helping to promote the movie. He has a "unique" look, but he's not ugly and is well-spoken.
I say they use his voice in the movie and let him promote FF2. Maybe not to the amount of Alba (most of us would rather look at Alba) but put him out there!
Oh yeah, it annoys me that there is really no award this guy can win. You know that "best costume" award would have never happened if he wasn't the guy in the costume!

20th Century Fox has launched an official wikipedia for the film, offering fans who are new to the film or the comic books a chance to find out more about the mysterious threat who faces off against the Fantastic Four in this summer's blockbuster sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. If you're an expert on the comic lore, or have something to share with fans who are newer to the universe, check out the wiki now (http://whoisthesilversurfer.com/us/) to contribute what you know!
The wiki also includes a complete list of release dates worldwide to keep you up-to-date on when the movie will land in a theater near you, and information on the characters and the cast who play them, the films in the franchise and the backstory of the Fantastic Four from the original comic books.
Source: http://www.f4movies.com/news/0501.shtml
The official press release will be coming out later this week, the site is on a "soft launch" currently meaning that Fox aren't actually actively advertising it. This gives us fans a chance to make sure that the info is as accurate as possible for anyone who is going to be visiting.

That is strange... I will see if I can find out why he isn't listed on there. It's going to be a tough credit to place if they cast someone else for the voice, because the person that voices tends to get the recognition.
btw, is he any closer to finding out whether or not he will be voicing the character?

Still awaiting official news on that. As for credit ... that is all sorted out at contractual level, long ago, and Doug Jones plays the Silver Surfer, irrelevant of who voices him - Doug got full recognition as Abe Sapien in Hellboy. He is, after all, the actor who portrays the character. Still, I'd better not say any more, had I?

He may not be on this part of wikipedia......
But he's on the movie portion....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fantastic_Four_2#Cast
maybe its because this site really is for the history of the Silver Surfer through the comics, not necessarily a site specifically for the movie as the other wikipedia site has all the essentials for the movie...
The fact that they are looking for fans from the comics to really have an influence on this particular site tells me its more about the SS of the comics, than the SS of the movie.

Doug is on the Wikipedia site because I put him on there (he was omitted on there as well), and the Wiki site is an unofficial site anyway. Well, that ain't no surprise. Still, everyone knows that isn't the truth, so what the hell. They can live in their little bubble if they like - the fans know the truth, and that is all that matters.

But it's fans who are going to have to explain to these brainless twits that just because it's posted on a site doesn't make it true over and over and over again. I can hear it now, "But I read on xyz site that he did motion capture..."

Cool but i hope the real official site gets some attention soon as well. It's been in teaser mode for too long now.
And, as per usual, the Silver Surfer and the actor who portrays him is conspicuous by his absence on the cast list on this site. Odd, don't you think, considering the site is all about the Silver Surfer.

The only way this could get more attention in a theater is if there were two people having sex next to it.

Peeks perform for MTV, alliesBy Gail Schiller
April 27, 2007
NEW YORK -- As part of its content partnership with Sony Pictures, MTV promoted and premiered the trailer for the "Spider-Man 3" video game from Activision and saw ratings jump 29%. It did the same on MTV.com with the trailer for Lionsgate's "Hostel 2," which was streamed nearly 379,000 times, outperforming a similar but nonpromoted trailer on the site by a whopping 939%.
While MTV has engaged in content partnerships with Hollywood's film studios since its inception 25 years ago, it has recently been shifting the type of content it offers. According to the network, the results speak for themselves and benefit both the studios and MTV.
"Years ago the majority of our movie promotions were longform programming, half-hour shows," said John Shea, executive vp integrated marketing and brand partnerships at MTVN Music and LOGO Group. "While that still continues to be an element of our movie promotions, a lot more now is ... getting in a little earlier and giving the audience a peak behind the curtain, which is what the MTV audience has told us is most interesting to them."
Shea said that when they're built around the right movie for the MTV audience, movie trailers and sneak peaks hold onto or build the MTV audience, with viewers considering these "less traditional forms of commercial messaging just as good as traditional entertainment and content."
For Fox's "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer," MTV will use a different strategy to promote that film. On "Pimp My Ride," tuner experts will transform a viewer's car into a Silver Surfer-themed vehicle complete with a built-in plasma screen and an Xbox 360.
Among other films MTV has recently promoted on-air and online with shortform content are "Dreamgirls," "Blades of Glory," "Night at the Museum" and "The Devil Wears Prada." Shea said the "Spider-Man 3" promotion marked the first time MTV has promoted both a video game and movie. The network does about 30 film partnerships a year with all of the studios, which are already buying significant media on the network, but no money changes hands for the movie content.
"If the studios generate more boxoffice revenue and we generate more viewer interest, then the partnership was a success," Shea said.
MTV's "Spider-Man 3" promotion also involves a sweepstakes that offers four prize winners the chance to come to New York to attend the movie premiere on Monday and a week of "Spider-Man 3" events planned by Sony Pictures around the city. The winners will not only meet Tobey Maguire and the rest of the cast but will compete against them live when they become among the first to play Activision's "Spider-Man 3" game on MTV's TRL.
To help promote the sweepstakes, the movie and game as well as its roadblock premiere of the video game trailer on MTV, MTV2, MTVU and MTV.com, the network ran a series of 45-second promos over a three-week period. When the trailer aired during "Bam's Unholy Union" on MTV, the ratings not only jumped 29% but continued to increase for the remaining 11 minutes of the show, the network said.
For "Hostel 2," MTV.com will feature exclusive content including photos, video clips, trailers, Q&As with cast members and video games. To promote the trailer premiere on MTV.com, MTV and MTV2 not only ran promos on-air and online but on eight MTV Networks-owned Web sites reaching a total of 40 million people, including ComedyCentral.com, SpikeTV.com, Gametrailers.com and iFilm.com. The exclusive content will also be promoted on the same sites.
