Why Naruto?

Can someone explain to me why Naruto is so great? I started watching the beggining of the series and I didn't really care too much. Everyone raves about it but I just don't see the epic greatness. I see that it has a different storyline than what we're used to, but I just can't get into it. Anyone care to tell me why they think it's so great?

I don't know if I can tell you why it's so great, maybe it's the characters. Yeah, it's the characters and the character development. But I will say that the show gets old after awhile. I started enjoying it less and less because story arcs take forever to end and the format starts to become repetative I think. Granted, I watched a ton of it before I began to think this.

I agree on it's slowness. I think it takes longer for Naruto stories to develop than Dragonball Z (excluding the Goku vs Freiza eps.....5 minutes took 10 eps lol)

Its a fun and entertaining show. The characters are cool and entertaining.

Naruto is the ultimate under-dog, I love him.

Plus the show has some pretty brutal and dramatic moments to it every now and again. Along with the comedy.

It should be noted that I've yet to see a GOOD or at least NOT BAD English dub... And I can tell you that you are better watching the Anime in Japanese...

Concerning the thread...

Naruto is great because it has a great story.. it moves slow because Naruto wroks better in Manga.... The Manga is short and is done Weekly and you don't have many pages, but it's still great like any other comic..

Also the characters... I've grown fond with a lot of the secondary characters, which in my opinion are better than Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura.. Rock Lee, Gaara and even freaking Chouji are awesome..


If you liked Dragonball(original, non-z type) you will like Naruto in all its greatness...

If you liked better Dragonball Z you are better with Bleach... OMG it's so awesome!

but I think you have to concider that

b) Most of Mexican tv in prime time is actually american, so you need GOOD dubbing for the audience (specially in cartoons, because we don't have Mexican cartoons) and we have dubbed since, well, since we have T.V.

c) Mexico Dubs for all america... Most of the Movies with Will Smith, Bruce Willis and other big stars are dubbed in Mexico, and each big star has their own Dubbing counterpart... Actually, everything Will Smith has done since "Fresh Prince" with the exception of Bad Boys has been done by the same Dubbing actor... that's how hard core we are:)

If you're talking about the Orochimaru/Sarutobi fight, what's to like about that one? For 5 freakin epiodes, I had to watch a hand try to grab a soul and a sword twitch in a man's chest. I waited so damn long to see Sasuke fight Gaara and the attack on the village shot that all to hell. I still love the show but some of the stuff they did with the end of that arc were poorly executed.

Naruto vs Neji is more the type of fight I'm interested in. NOT fights like Chouji vs Dosu.

There are some DBZ influences in Naruto, and Kishimoto is a huge DBZ fan. But they pretty distinct.

I don't think dragon ball z and naruto are alike, but during the pacing of the fights. I think that Naruto is a better show because of the characters in it like kakashi, sasuke, and shakamaru. The reality of it all jsut makes it more interesting to me.:)

Naruto would be interesting if the cut down on the flashbacks by at least 75%. Granted most animes have constant flashbacks but I find Naruto would benefit better without the long flashbacks, both in the manga and anime.

For example the Bridge Village in the Mist has too many flashbacks: The guy with the huge sword and the other kid keep having their own flashback; then when Sasuske is taken down Naruto gets angry and has his own flashback about his relationship with Sasuske(when Sasuske got shot through with all those medical needles he takes a long time to fall down and there are a crapload of flashbacks). There are many more flashbacks in this arc but let me move on.

The flashbacks in this story are long, unbelievably tedious, and overdone. It tries my patience. Just fight already! No need to have a flashback about the time you said you stabbed your hand and said you weren't going to give up your dream to be the next Hokage. Just fight and talk later. Quit with the flashbacks. That's my main grievance with this show; without the flashbacks, which can take at least a third of the episode time, this show would grab me a lot more.

Naruto would be interesting if the cut down on the flashbacks by at least 75%. Granted most animes have constant flashbacks but I find Naruto would benefit better without the long flashbacks, both in the manga and anime.

For example the Bridge Village in the Mist has too many flashbacks: The guy with the huge sword and the other kid keep having their own flashback; then when Sasuske is taken down Naruto gets angry and has his own flashback about his relationship with Sasuske(when Sasuske got shot through with all those medical needles he takes a long time to fall down and there are a crapload of flashbacks). There are many more flashbacks in this arc but let me move on.

The flashbacks in this story are long, unbelievably tedious, and overdone. It tries my patience. Just fight already! No need to have a flashback about the time you said you stabbed your hand and said you weren't going to give up your dream to be the next Hokage. Just fight and talk later. Quit with the flashbacks. That's my main grievance with this show; without the flashbacks, which can take at least a third of the episode time, this show would grab me a lot more.
Without the Flashbacks there would be no Third season of Naruto.

They started to make the Anime too soon for the Manga and the Manga format is 16 pages long.

It's just they need to spread out the story for the Manga.

i always wandered that to. i guess the obnoxious charatcters are the ones that will pull people in to the show. & make an intense situation more leighthearted. like michalango from the ninja turtles, or flash form the juctice league ect.

Kiba for leading(HE'S ****ING ICHIGO!), then Rock Lee, Neji, Shikamaru, Chouji and Shino. Perhaps Naruto.

The Sakura/Ino fight is one of the worst in terms of flashbacks. Figures you'd judge the show by that. Hang in there, Gaara vs Sasuke and Naruto vs Neji should entertain you soon enough.

True, they are necessary. I personally feel they are too much and too long. In the village of the mist arc when Sasuske was hit by those needles in that mirror fortress, I changed the channel because I lost patience with the excessive flashbacks. Sasuske took so long to fall. I also lost patience with the flashbacks during Sakura's fight with the sound ninjas and when she was fighting Ino, both in the anime and manga. But yes, I definitely agree they are necessary and add to the emotional intensity of the show. But I guess the flashbacks annoy me too much because I'm too westernized in my outlook of cartoons.

I only ask because from admittingly little I've seen, it looks like just about every other stereotypical school/travelling anime, with the annoying loudasses you want to beat over the head with a frying pan until the figurative egg whites boil over and the stereotypical emo-kid wet dream.

The length of the series scares the crap out of me. Too many filler arcs. I remember RK was pretty lengthy and there were quite a few breather arcs but I don't thing it ever reached the 100 mark unless you count the movie and the OVAs. ...Hmm...I'd say watch the Hidden Sound story arc, around the Chuunin Exam part. Orochi's introduction to the series is where the real meat of the story is since other than Itachi, Orochi is the main bad guy. But I'm not really a fan, so I think you should let more experienced Naruto fans like oakzap recommend where you should start. Just avoid the fillers I guess
