View Full Version : Who'd Be a Great MARTIAN MANHUNTER???

Who would be your ideal Martian Manhunter?

http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/9544/martianmanhunterfinaljpg0sp.jpg

The perameters for the casting would be that the actor would embody the character as a martian via complex prosthetics and would also portray his most constantly assumed human form, John Jones. So the actor doesn't have to be a giant or the most well built guy, but he probably should be fairly tall with at least an athletic build. The actor would also have to ne a very strong dramatic and comedic performer. He would be required to portray very subtle emotions and convey a lot through his physical movements and eyes. His voice should also sound mature.

Who, under those conditions, would you guys cast as the Martian Manhunter?

Chiwetel Ejiofor (Serenity, Love Actually, Amistad, upcoming The Inside Man)

http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/8134/theoperative035dk.jpg

He's a solid actor who has done some very respectable work in his career. He's the kind of actor who would serve the story as well as instill J'onn with a real personality and not make him some monotone anyhero.

Again, don't take this as anything but a thought. He doesn't have to be of any particular ethnicity. Just has to be a good actor.

Here's a few more casting ideas for J'onn (one or two of them are a little outside the box, but I think they'd work fine):

Dennis Haysbert (24, Jarhead, Far From Heaven, The Unit)

http://img477.imageshack.us/img477/9704/heaven2ia.jpg

Victor Garber (Alias, Titanic, Legally Blonde)

http://img381.imageshack.us/img381/6355/s3cast162ob.jpg

Vincent D'Onofrio (MIB, The Cell, Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys, Full Metal Jacket)

http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/2448/donofrio6yi.jpg

Going with these guys would mean making J'onn a more mature character (I personally think he could be either young or old). D'onofrio is probably the most 'outside of the box' choice, but I think he'd be amazing. Most people are used to his really rough and loud work, but if you check out The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys or Thumbsucker, you see a really calm and tender side of him that makes me believe he could really work as J'onn. Haysbert and Garber both kick major ass and would own the role if they were to portray it.

Ronny Shade

No way man. Fillion IS The Question!

Fillion has always been my top choice for the role of Question is ever a film was brought up, he could play both sides of Vic Sage and Question well IMO. I'm just saying he'd be great to play the human side of J'onn J'onzz, John Jones. I could easily see him play the private eye detective when not exploring his alien side of the Martian, and seeing what this world has to offer him. Both are roles I think he should consider doing if the films are ever green lighted from comic to big screen.

I think Martian Manhunter could be any race. The point is him being green. The detective part wasn't as much as a main focus as the green alien form was. He could be black, latino, or asian and it wouldnt really matter.

He did a fine job on JL/JLU, but if they were to make a full out Martian Manhunter movie, I'm not sure that they'd cast their voice from the cartoon. Kevin Conroy didn't do Batman and Tim Daly isn't doing Superman. He's a fine actor, but having been associated with the character in its animated form kind of cancels him out.

I'm not at all adverse to the idea of John Jones (J'onn J'onzz ..sp?) being black. I honestly think that Chris Judge would be a great choice. I've seen him (as we all have) on SG1 and could really appreciate his otherworldly take on MM.

BTW, MM has always been my favourite member of the JLA. I've been waiting for someone to put together a good, ongoing book featuring him. There were a few false starts. I guess none of the writers at DC have a strong enough handle on him.

Purcell has always been my choice, next to Fillion though he's better suited for Hal Jordan or perhaps The Question. I chose him even before his role in Prison Break, he just had the right presence and look that could channel both the duality of J'onn J'onnz along with John Jones. Kevin Conroy didn't do Batman and Tim Daly isn't doing Superman. He's a fine actor, but having been associated with the character in its animated form kind of cancels him out.

Why should it cancell him out? Conroy would have made a good Batman back in the late 80s/early 90s. Only reason he wouldn't be chosen now is because he's a bit too old to play Batman as he's presented in the new franchise. And really, Tim Daly wouldn't be a bad Superman. But, he didn;t audition for the part. Lumbly is a very good screen actor, and would be perfect for the role.
