View Full Version : If Batman were to die...

...which villain would you want to have the (dis)honor? Which villain deserves to do in the Bat? I came to this idea while watching the B:TAS episode: "Almost Got 'Im."
Personally, I think the only villain that has the right to vanquish our hero is the Joker, Ra's Al Ghul, it would be insulting if anyone else (Penguin, Riddler, etc...) managed to finish him off.
Thoughts?

IF?
I dunno......maybe Ra's? But really......none of them can pull it off.

It should be some unknown guy, that came out of nowhere and dressed like a wrestler. Nah, that would never work.

It would have to be The Joker. Considering the long history they have it would be the most meaningful.

I like how Alan Moore sumed it up that either Batman will kill the Joker or the Joker will kill Batman

Well, if you wanted it to be a really tragic ending, it would have to some random thug that got in a lucky shot. Kinda what started Batman also ends Batman.

That I like.
Still, if it came down to one last stand, it'd be the Joker, and I prefer to think they would both go down in one fell swoop.

I dunno......I just don't think the Joker would ever kill the Batman. He likes the cat and mouse game, I think he's pretty much like Batman...incapable of killing his arch nemesis.
The Question

Personally, I think it would be nice and ironic if Batman, who lived a life of danger and semi reckless heroism, lived into his 80s and died of a heart atack or something like that. Although, if The Joker ever did kill Batman, they could do a scene like this:
The Joker is standing over Batman's dead body, with a gun in his hand. He looks down at the gun. The metal feels cold and heavy, and leaves a slightly sickening taste in his mouth. Slowly, he raises the gun to his right temple.
"I killed Batman. What the hell could I do for an encore?"
He pulls the trigger, and falls over. He's dead before he hits the ground.

Well, if Batman were set to die in continuity. It'd be written by Frank Miller and it wouldn't be any villains that kill him. It'd be Superman. Superman will kill Batman, but first Batman has to kick the **** out of Superman with intense prep time.

Robin would, be forced to kill him and this would lead to a future nightwing vs Robin

I would choose the Joker and I liked Questions scene suggestion. If Joker ever managed to kill Batman he wouldn't have any reason left to live.
I also liked the suggestion of a unknown thug getting in a lucky shot and then managing to disappear and not get caught for it.

Nightwing. Or Joker. Maybe a random thug would be good, but probably not.
Personally, I'de like to see if be Nightwing.

I dont think Batman should be killed until he has a suitable heir, perferrably a biological son. Perhaps after Son of the Demon comes into continuity, Bruce's son could come to live with him. Then when his son is in his teens, Bruce is killed by the Joker, and his son takes up the mantle after him. Of course, i'd rather this not happen for quite some time.

I kinda like the idea of Batman dying by the hands of some random thug.
Imagine Batman surviving half-dead another one of Ra's or Joker's killing attempts. And then when he thinks it's all over and he can call it a day some random thug comes along and finishes the job.

I think Nightwing has established himself as the perfect heir of Batman. Bruce has also adopted him so he's also his son. But as much as I would like to see Dick take over the mantle permanently, I don't think they should kill off Batman.

You should read DKSA, then hunt down Frank Miller and ask him...that is before kicking the crap out of him for dropping a load on years of comradery between Bruce and Dick

But that still would not be enought for Dick to want to KILL him. Bruce was like a father to him.

I'm sure he died somewhere in Elseworlds. There's certainly been enough Elseworlds stories for that to have happened. An excessive amount, created by writers too lazy to do their homework. Same cause for graphic novels and miniseries that could just as easily have happened in continuity.
Anyway, it has to be Joker. **** your tragic endings, if anyone kills Batman it has to be the Joker, and if anyone kills Superman it has to be Lex Luthor. And I guess if anyone kills Wonder Woman it has to be Dr. Psycho? Wasn't he one of her earliest enemies, or was that the other guy?
Dr Psycho was one of her earliest but if anyone kills her it should be Ares although Cheetah is her most "famous" villain
droogiedroogie2
03-29-2006, 11:11 AM
Isn't Ares turning good or something though?
Anyway, I always liked Dr. Psycho better than Cheetah. An ancient Wonder Woman trade collecting her earliest adventures may have been my first superhero experience actually. My mom was a big feminist and bought it years ago for my sister in the early 80s. I picked it up when I was 4 or 5 or some tender age like that and read it. I didn't understand most of the cultural commentary, since it referenced the 1940s. I just remember Dr. Psycho using some kind of gel substance to shift his shape or something, and he at one point turned into Mussolini. Something about him just always worked really well as a villain for me. Then I lost track of Wondy only to read the arc where she publishes the book and everybody hates on her and the Dr. shows up and I had this feeling that he was that guy with the shape-changing stuff, since he shifts his shape. Turns out I was right. Yay. Dr. Psycho rules.
Cheetah's lame.

i really don't know how this would happen it is very perplexing because the lucky thug with a gun has agreeable symetry but the joker is his arch villian and i think the joker would have to die afterwards or kill himself after he killed batman.
i also have this picture in my head of superman doing it...or being there don't ask why it just seems like bruce would be hurt badly, real badly, no hope. and he would pay his respects to clark about how he has nothing but respect for him and supes would have to kill him..to put him out of his misery...

How would I want Batman to die?
Either, as Bruce Wayne walking down an alley with his new wife Selina Kyle...with their 8 year old son with them and they get blasted by some random mugger. The kid follows in his father's footsteps and along the way discovers the secrets of his father's life and legacy as the greatest crime fighter to ever live. And old Dick Grayson helps mentor him, and he learns of different perspectives of his father and the secret life he had from people like Jim Gordon, Barbara Gordon etc. And even the older villains.
Second option, is for him to die in the suit via the Joker and it be exactly as described as "The Question". What would the Joker have to live for if he killed Batman? And to be funny, he would say exactly what Question had him saying.

Question wrote the perfect end for Batman and the Joker. If not Joker, I think Ras al Ghul, Talia, or Two Face should be the next people to take Batman out. Also like Harlekein's dialogue. That sounds very Jokerish.
I like Bane, but I don't think he has earned his due. Even though Riddler, Penguin, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, Clayface, and Catwoman have paid their dues, I don't see them getting the advantage on Batman. But the al Ghuls, the Joker, and maybe Two Face...yeah, I can see them taking him out.
If that would ever happen, I would like Dick Grayson to pick up the Mantle of the Bat. Perhaps he and Tim Drake could compete over it.

Ok...What if...
with the current continuity, Batman is growing more and more obsessed with his "work", so, what if he eventually goes insane? He is then stripped of all his gear and locked in at Arkham, where all his enemies gather and kill him in a riot?
Otherwise I think that Joker should, but Ra's is the only one who really can do it...He'll outlive them all anyway...

Batman should die by a random household accident as Bruce Wayne. Like he trips on something, falls and hits his head and dies. Something out of like a Final Destination movie, where it's just a random accident. Wouldn't that be ironic? The great Batman, defeated by a malfunctioning blender! Or, poor Batman. He could solve the greatest crimes in history, but couldn't remember not to put a fork in the toaster...

Nah, Scarface should just make Batman watch Batman & Robin 200 times in one day.
Seriously, the title question is COMPLETELY wrong. It says "If Batman were to die". As it is a known fact that Batman will never die. Now Bruce Wayne could possibly die, but not Batman. Chances of them actually killing off Bruce Wayne are slim but still possible. It's just not possible for Batman to die because if Bruce Wayne died, someone else would just take his place like in Batman Beyond. It's alot like V for Vendetta. "Under this mask is more then just flesh, under this mask is an idea, and ideas are bulletproof" This same exact quote goes for Batman. So what the original poster should have put was "If Bruce Wayne were to die".
Oh and sorry if someone has already said this, I didn't read all of the replies.
Well, if you wanted it to be a really tragic ending, it would have to some random thug that got in a lucky shot. Kinda what started Batman also ends Batman.

It's a fanfilm. Dead End is a masterpiece compared to "Death of Batman". Go to the Misc Batman section and look at the "Death of Batman" thread. It's the worst piece of crap I've ever watched before in my life. Batman is tortured by some random thug and Batman commits suicide by an overdose of drugs.

I watched the first five minutes of that and turned it off. I just bought a DVD that has a ton of Bat fan films on it.
I have Dead End, trailers for World's Finest Superman/Batman and Grayson, Batman Beyond: Year One live action, Death of Batman, and making of Dead End.
I got that for 10 bucks so I thought I made out on that deal.
But I actually want to watch the rest of Death of Batman now. Heh. From the sounds of it it actually gets more sucky. I figured it couldn't have gotten any worse than watching some random thug zap Batman in the nuts with a taser.
