I'm looking forward to more then just the art personally...I think this series will be great to add to a pull list.
Moon Knight issue #1 comes out in 3 days, art by David Finch and written by Charlie Huston. So this thread is dedicated to the new highly anticipated on-going, who's going to pick it up?
Um, it comes out in 7 days not 3. Comics come out on Wed/Thur, not Saturdays.

April 5th is the date? Wonder why I couldn't find that anywhere, thanks. And I know books come out on those days obviously, for instance, I'm going to go pick up Iron Man #6 and Thing #5 which are both on sale today.

I'm there! regardless of Finch's art.
My comic store had a preview issue today when I went in. I read through the first half or so while they were ringing up my comics. It seems to be pretty interesting. Right from the start they get into the reasons why Moon Knight is the way he is.
I'm not a big fan of the art (I don't like the photo-real style) but the writing looks to be pretty good so I'll probably pick this up.

Theres nothing photo real about David Finch's art. Where you get that idea from?
I'm really looking forward to Charlie Huston's future work at Marvel most of all. From interviews, his website and such,he seems like a very enthusiastic guy who's just stoked to be writing comics. Can't wait for his take on the Ultimates.

Very true. Also, while I am in no way against, but rather support, Marvel taking cues and ideas from the Distinguished Competiton (Young Avengers from the concept of Teen Titans), I think it should be done only in contexts that make sense. The Young Avengers forming after the disbanding of the Avengers makes sense, and was extremely well done. No old charecters were torn from their roots to make it happen, and it was a good story of its own right. Changing the idea of Moon Knight to that of the spectre doesn't fit the charecter, and only makes Marvel look stupid. That said, I do wish Marvel would get its magical charecters together and define them better. It's like Joe Q has said, in Marvel, magic is too undefined to work for most good stories. It comes off as a deus ex machina too often.

The older issues have him in this color design but changed when writers and artists mistook old publishing coloring techniques as a white suit. Moonknight has always been described as being Silver and Jet. Jet being another word for black as in Jet Black.

From his creators mouth.....
"He started out as a villain in "Werewolf by Night." Right there that dictates several things. If he’s going to be going up against a werewolf he’s gotta be a night character because if they’re going to fight it has to be at night. Right there, night character. Batman’s also a night character, but he was the furthest thing from my mind. What else do you connect to a werewolf? The moon. That spelled out the colors of the costume. Jet and silver. Do not step over the line. While this is your personal opinion (which people are allowed to have and express)....I do not want this to escalate any further. I advise you to make no further comments about Jews...because that could lead to religion bashing and racial flaming.

I do not want this line of talk to continue.
Not liking someone because of the religion they follow is just one of the many prejudices that inflict the world today.
Have respect for others ideas, opinions, and faith....even if you do not follow them. Show others the respect that you ask of them towards you.
This board should be one of unity not division.

Sorry I didnt read all of this it seem to get kinda ugly and I am sure someone has already said this but Yea MK is Silver and Jet Moench himself has claimed it many times and Comic Geek Speak Podcast has had him and the new writer whos name escapes me now both on in seprate interviews to explain whats up. He is NOW offically white colored the rational behind this now is he WANTS the badguys to easily see him coming and piss themselves when he does. This Moon Knight doesnt hide. They went with white on this because the new writer just assumed he was always meant to be white clad and when he learned he was mistaken he had already writen a portin of Moon Knights whole personality around this idea of him not being afraid to announce his comings to the enemy.

Just read #1.It's not really wordy as it uses lots of images to get the point across especially in the second half.Finch really nails the storytelling in this one and the tone of the book has already been carved in stone. The Bottom is the perfect title for this arc.

Well, people have compared the two off and on. Saying how they both work during the night, both where capes, or how Moon Knight is Marvel's very own Batman. For instance, in issue #1 where Moon Knight is calling for his moon plane we see a man with a mustache piloting it. I heard people actually saying how the man is Moon Knight's Alfred, now that I found irrelevant. But to answer your question, I'd say no. The two of them are different in many ways, even if they're both dark themed.

Yeah, it was Coipel. Personally, I think Finch is a fine artist. Sure, alot of his faces look similar, but that's a difficult thing to not do. It's not a problem to the point to where you can't tell who you're looking at. Personally, I love his dark gritty art, and I think that while it was an ok fit for dissassembled, given the tone of the story, he shouldn't neccesarily be a regular on a book that should be about large all out superheroic slugfests. Not that that is what the Avengers are really about lately...

04-07-2006, 11:03 PM
My take on the first issue of his new title:
MOON KNIGHT #1: Huston and Finch attempt to relaunch Moon Knight for what seems to be a 3rd or 4th attempt from Marvel since his creation. Now, while I don't mention it much, I actually have liked Moon Knight before this series was launched; he wasn't my favorite Marvel hero but I did like him moreso than many others, and my comic collection is scattered with more issues of his series than, say, Avengers or other Marvel comics. I liked the design and the grim-urban hero appeal. I never saw him as a "Batman Ripoff" but more along the lines of The Phantom or The Shadow, as in a pulp-hero. Unfortunately, the connection to Batman has become a self-fulfilling prophecy at Marvel that led to abysmal dire in the 90's with armor, and MK hasn't recovered since...until now. Huston seems convinced that he understands Moon Knight's roots and wants to return him there, and this first issue is off to a good start. Moon Knight has been reduced to guest appearences since the 90's and often has the poorest luck of being manhandled by the lamest of enemies; The Fly once crippled him in MOON KNIGHT (vol. 1) #35, and Zaran the Weapons Master (as in, that guy Squirrel Girl's squirrels sent packing in GLA #4) once nearly killed Moon Knight towards the end of the MARVEL KNIGHTS series in 2001. However, MTU #7 brought Moon Knight back into circulation, although more people noticed his appearences in AVENGERS DISASSEMBLED. Now he's finally back in his own series (thanks likely to WIZARD long pining for him) and apparently he's hit rock bottom, fondly recalling his life of yesteryear and appreciating it more that he no longer has it; apparently he became crippled in some attack and both Frenchie and Marlene have been driven away by his abusive reaction to his injuries (Frenchie is even missing his legs; I didn't know that!). Finch of course suffers from "same face syndrome" like many artists (Quietly, Bagley, etc), but his dark art fits the tone of the story. The story has twangs from that 80's #35 as well as a little DARK KNIGHT RETURNS, but all of this is fitting for Moon Knight; after all, DD is stuck in his own affairs, so now is his time to relcaim his title. I also enjoyed the return of MK's spiked knuckles that he wore during those WEREWOLF BY NIGHT issues, as well as acknowledging that, yes, he was an Avenger and has allied with almost every Marvel hero at some point. Now he's hit rock bottom and he'll have to claw his way out, and it looks like it will be a good ride. I hope we see who exactly crippled MK in the first place, but I have faith that we well. A very good start for Marvel's most demanded B-Lister. Let's hope the sales match up.
