it's probably comparable to the spiderman suit. Weren't a few of those stolen during production of the first film... and i think they mentioned a price... does anybody remember?

ohmshalone

I wonder if its as expensive as batmans movie-price suit... $300,000

Well if you ignore the collectible value. I would say it probably cost in the low hundred thousands. The Begins costume cost that much more because sculpting
was involved. I think less work certainly goes into developing something that is bascially a spandex suit. However the materials used would jack the price up.

Mentok

Well from a deverlopment point of view I am sure it was expensive. They spent alot of tme playing with new fabrics and they even created a few to try with the suit.

Thats an expensive process to go through.

nosebleed.
03-29-2006, 08:03 PM
The codpiece alone must have cost a cool hundred grand from all the material used to produce such a massive piece of "equipment".

Too bad it doesn't look it. It's a decent suit at best.

Didnt someone, maybe Singer, say that ripping a suit was like driving a Ferrari off a bridge?

anyone remember that

imagine what that suit would cost in 'fake-life.' Lois was a fool to return that cape in S4.

I don't get it. Or maybe it's just so simple and I'm thinking something else.

Yellow Cyclone

ferrari's are usually 150,000+ easily...so you rip the suit, you obviously can't sew it, cuz the seams will show up on the scre---oh wait

I don't get it. Or maybe it's just so simple and I'm thinking something else.

Basically, he's saying that each suits cost north of $150 K like cyclone pointed out, so when you rip one, you can't really mend it, so it's like completely losing 150 grand.

$85,000 a piece, they dont have the screen printing and web and spider add on's like the Spider-man suit. Im just happy he's not all sculpted muscle, he'll actually be able to move.

^^ Ok, thanks. Yeah, that's what I thought it meant but I didn't know these suits were that damn expensive. Holy jeez. Not exactly something you'd wear to cut the grass in or change your oil.

Seeing how it was mapped to Brandon's body by computer, I'd say it was pretty expensive.

And what the hell's "rummer?" :p

Remember there was an article that said they had about 80 suits? At least I think I'm remembering right. 80 suits and 100 capes, or something.

Anyway, I think that's way more than they used in Batman or even Spider-Man. And I think the sheer number produced would keep the cost down - I think some of the lower estimates here sound closer to reality.

But they're definitely in the tens of thousands.

Also, I think it's man-hours that is the biggest cost factor for these things... sure, the materials are pretty pricey, but it's the fact that you have to pay many people for many days work to make each one that costs the most.

Hi everyone, its my first post so please don't shoot. j/k!

I am almost done with my Superman Returns suit replica made with the exact materials as used in the movie. Oh, and i'm not saying that to make it seem better than everyone else's cause there are some great suits out there. The Base of the SR body suit is actually a full body Speedo-fastskin I. This full body suit cost between $200 to $400 depending on where you buy it. They only come in three colors last time i checked. Navy, Black, and grey. This suits do have the pattern on them as seen in the film and high res photos. The production company clearly took the bue navy version and did a complete dye job on it for it all to match with their design. The grey version was used as well from what i've seen from photos of the crash on the internet. Now the S shield was made out of various materials from what i gather. Anywhere from latex rubber to plain light weight latex. Although in the movie they obviously sticked to one. in my case i had to custom make one and it was not easy. Remember that fine S print on the logo. Now imagine doing that by hand. it took me three freakin weeks to finish one. ( i made three ). It looks great all together. I'll post pics of it as soon as i finish it. Last item i'm working on are the boots. I am making them but they are not easy. untill next post take care!

Trivia- Did you know that the Boots Superman wears in Superman Returns have the S shield behind the heel of the boot and on the bottom of the boot.

Literally, if Supes were to step on an oil stain or on crap (c'mon it happens, don't lie - it happened to you too) he would literally leave his mark.

You know after all that ramblin i forgot to get to the point. total cost of super suit using same materials from production. estimated $1500.

Thats including the boots. Since so far i have spent $900 on what i have and i do expect to spend up to $600 on the boots that i am having customzed and replicated for me.

Peace out!

Good Lord. I'm sorta surprised, but at the same time, not really--people do this all the time with Star Wars costumes as well, shoulda figured someone would do it with Superman :)

I AM surprised you don't have a website up yet detailing the steps you're taking.

I just wanna see the S you designed.

well i thnk its about a million, considering all the sculpted \s? on the shield itself, plus the pattern design and fabrics which cost a fortune, including the imported wool for the cape.

Nice info... but that doesn't include the under muscle-suit - that's what most of the money would have gone into. Material and man-hours for that would be significant.

Only 90% done so far, i need to finish the color matching on the boots and finish the muscle padding on the mannequin, which is why it looks goofy and gangly in some parts. Here's a pic so far. Its a crappy photo and the only one i have so bare with me untill i get better close up pics of the final product. -SuperU Out!

Also i should note that the actual cape is not seen here. At the time of the photo supes had his cape tied up in a knot for easy moving from one room to another (heavy mannequin). So my friend edited the photo for me and used an image of a SR cape to make it look complete. But the actual cape can be seen attached on its shoulders.

Yeah, when you save your pic as a jpeg, make sure the quality setting's on about 85% (or, if they do the scale the other way, 15% compression_), rather than 100% (or least compression).
