It's official... adding the gag with that little rat from "Ice Age" just to hype the new movie.
The show has achieved instant lameness.

Family Guy jumped the shark the moment it came back into production. For the most part, season 4 has sucked. It took The Simpsons at least 10 years to do that. What a shame considering how brilliant season 3 was.

I hardly think this is cause to say Family Guy has jumped the shark - they take all sorts of jabs at movies and TV shows. As a matter of fact, that's what they've been doing from the very beginning.
By this logic, Family Guy jumped the shark on its first episode.

I agree completely. The show has been of pretty poor quality since it came back.

Gotta agree with that as well. It reminds me of The Simpsons when I watch it now. Before it was more fresh and original than the episodes of The Simpsons that were airing.

Yeah, ever since they came back, all they've been doing is stretching out jokes from previous episodes that people liked. Sure, they threw in a good gag here and there, but that doesn't change the fact that they've jumped it.

Agreed. I didn't start disliking it until that episode when Lois married Brian. That was just too stupid.

I'm convinced the Ice Age gag was put in to help hype the movie. There was a commercial for it minutes later. That was no "jab," that was marketing. :down

It did feel like a bit of gratuitous product placement to me. I got to be honest.
Just odd though that Fox would want to promote a kids movie like Ice Age 2 during a show like Family Guy.

People are pretty quick to say a show has "jumped the shark" these days, sometimes a couple of bad episodes is enough... Thing is, if FG hadnīt been out of production for so long and didnīt have this "miraculous comeback story", people would probably be less critical. The whole thing raised expectations too much. I never thought the show was so frikking brilliant to begin with. It never got close to what Simpsons was at its prime, IMO.

Thank you, I thought I was alone on this one. Everything that made the first three seasons of Family Guy so good has been completely absent from the new episodes. The great thing about Family Guy was that its humor was unexpected and original. Now it's become incredibly predictable, unoriginal and vulgar for the sake of being vulgar.

Apparently it wasn't new. It was the one with Lois's brother and the fat guys. It was new to me, and I was pleasantly surprised.

Yeah IMO out of FG's whole run, only two episdoes have been lame.

I'm in agreement with most of the posters. I think that FG has really been lacking since it returned. I also didn't like the Stewie Griffin Movie.
It was very hit or miss, just like the series has become. It's like the 'humor' is so over the top now, and overdone.

Family Guy has always been all over the place. They are always sticking in gags that go on way too long and half the time aren't funny. Like the early one where Peter keeps hurting his shin. Ugh bad! That and the grade 3 level "plots". Family guy is more like a sketch show than a sitcom.

A semi-recent episode, The Father, the Son, and the Holy Fonz, was absolutely hilarious! Family Guy at its best. So while there have been some stinkers, it looks like Family Guy is getting back on track!

Aside from Fawlty Towers, every show has great episodes and some episodes that are weak.
The only reason I listed Fawlty Towers as an exception is that they had only 12 episodes: 6 originally broadcast in 1975. The other 6 were broadcast in 1979.

I still like Family Guy. I agree theat the Stewie Griffon movie was seriously lacking. When they first swore though I had to laugh because it was so out of left field. I'll keep watching FG, they just have to stop the singing.

The best part of the FG movie is a blink-or-you-miss-it gag where Stewie jumps out a window, but a stuntman dressed as Stewie makes the fall into a trash bin.
