I included a bunch of other villians (including a bunch of Superman villians) and an other section so I'm not really sure what the problem is. Its not my fault Bats and Supes have the most high profile villains. This is supposed to be who history will see as the greatest. If you think it is someone not on the list vote for "other'.

C'mon now!
another stupid Batman character is wining just because the superherohype are infested with bratfans who are voting more than once for their favorite and only known character that they grew up watching on batman tas .
I’ve always thought that lex Luthor would be more than fit to be the Batman no. 1 enemy instead of a clown
Then again perhaps that Lex is way more too cunning and superior for the bat after all!

No one voted twice. Its a public poll so you can check the people out if you want. And only a total of five people voted so far, so I really wouldn't concern yourself with whos "winning" yet.

The Joker is one of the only comic book villains to reach icon status, usually it's only the most famous of comic book superheroes that achieve that...like Superman, Batman.
This is partly due to the fact that the Joker was built upon an existing icon (the Joker card in a deck of playing cards), however, the character has taken that symbol and made it all his own not only bringing to mind the clever court jester, but also the clown as his modern replacement to create a strangely fun and likeable villain... so that most people cannot help but think of this

Anybody ever read the Autobiography of Lex Luthor. After reading that, Luthor scared me a bit more than the Joker. His cruelty, his genius, and his god complex fascinated me.
Reading the Autobiography of Lex Luthor & the Killing Joke back to back makes the Joker seem a far less evil but more sympathetic figure imo.
Joker hands down on the list, I dont know if anti-monitor should be part of it though? maybe? he did destroy all but a handful of the universes or since he was just created for that miniseries he doesnt really qualify?

Lex is there greatest villian because hes a world threat not just a bat villian. Jokers great but not in the way Lex works. Lex is the villian people want to be. He may not have powers but he has the intelligence of genius and the desires of a world conquerer. Hes great because hes rational and plots against you. He gets others to fight for him so hes always in control

When I see questions like "Who will be remembered as DC's greatest villain of all time?" I somehow always boil it down to what the general population of non-comic reading people would think. In most instances I think this population can be personified by a single person: your mom.
I think Mom would more likely answer The Joker over Lex Luthor. Mom might not even recall Lex's name. I think part of the reason why is because Luthor lacks anything visually distinctive. He's bald; but not always. Moms would likely be more familiar with Hackman's Luthor. He's got that green armor, but again, that's not consistant either.
Now, The Joker's had his share of looks, costumes, and interpretations - but he's always what he is: Joker. He's a brand name.

Exactly. Couldn't have said it better myself. Hell, look at the Crisis. Whether you like the way its going or not, Luthor is a central figure. Now, granted, most of what we've seen has been Alex posing as Luthor, but the fact is that Luthor is so feared and respected among the villain community that when he came calling, they answered (except for the Secret Six and a few others). The Joker, on the other hand, was one guy that no one wanted to work with... partially because he's crazy but also because I don't think anyone really has any confidence in him.

Yeah he is the A-1 nutso...why would they have confidence in a guy who would shoot them without thinking twice. His only major goal is chaos but that could actually be used as an argument for The Joker.

As far as who will be remembered as the greatest villain, what matters is impact on the readers. I'd say Lex has had the bigger impact within the DC universe, but Joker's achieved more memorable moments of villainy from a comic reader's perspective. Killing a Robin and maiming a Bat-girl, for starters.

I like both villains equally. Lex is cool and calculated while the Joker is wild.
Their both crazy and clever at the same time.
But it all comes down to the visual. Who are you going to remember? The psychotic clown or the psychotic bald man?
Many people have a fear of clowns. A fear of bald heads? Not so many.
Luthor should definitly get a respectable second place though, followed by Darkseid.
I would also like to motion for Brainiac, Zoom, and Deathstroke to be included on the list.

Joker will be remembered as a mass murderer, fine and well.
But Lex Luthor?
He often goes up against the (argueably) most powerful and renowned DC hero...
He often LEADS the other villains...
He has often completely DESTROYED the lives of people from his past (and present), over little more than a bruised ego...

I voted for Luthor. The Joker is great and all, but you have to bow down to a man who can look a god in the eye and not flinch. Lex Luthor dares to take on the most powerful being on the planet for no other reason than he offends his sense of decor, and also that he has the biggest ego on the planet. One of my favorite things about OYL was the comment on how Luthor always said he could cure cancer and save humanity if only Superman wasn't around (as shown in Millar's brilliant Red Son mini) , but I like how Luthor has pretty much spent the past year and right now devising ways to take over, still teaming up with people like Toyman and Metallo even though Supes has been gone for the whole Lost Year.

Hey what about Superboy Prime? :D
Seriously though, now that I think about it, the Anti-Monitor deserves to be on this list. True, he only really appeared in one story, but it was arguably the most influential comic book crossover event ever written, and that deserves some consideration. Add that to the fact the he was PURE evil, through and through... like an amalgamation of the most corrupt parts of Darth Vader, Sauron and Dr. Doom, and he didn't only try to destroy the universe, he tried to destroy ALL universes other than his own, I'd say that makes him a grade A badass.

Not quite always given the OYL story. But yeah, I always loved how he was untouchable because going after him would inevitably turn the public against Superman. He didn't need security or anything from Supes because public opinion worked better than any bodyguard ever could.

Hmm...Darkseid has quite a few votes now.
I love how quickly people forget how brilliant Joker is. This man is not stupid. Yes, Luthor may be smarter, but he has nowhere near the personality that Joker does. Luthor operates nice and clean like, while the Joker is all out brash and unapologetic - and is still more feared and regarded than Luthor. While Lex is a brilliant character, and bold as hell, Joker, in my opinion, has been much bolder. Plus Jokers colorful psychopath is much more interesting than Lex's laid back style. I mean come on, Joker is just so much more creative. And, as far as the general public is concerned, the Batman movie didn't help out Lex's case any. Let's be honest, who was more appealing, Richard Donner's Luthor, or Tim Burton's Joker. And I don't really see that changing in the future. Joker is the most influential villain in DC's history. If you don't believe me, wait until the new Batman sequel comes out. JOKER is going to sell that movie. That movie is going to shatter records when people see a commercial featuring an even creepier Joker (hopefully) than B89's.
Also, though I know I'm probably in the minority, I think that Ra's is the second greatest DC villain ever. He has the wisdom of hundred's of years, is one of the greatest swordsman to ever exist. He Nearly wiped out the Justice League - with Batman's inventions no less. He (a human) went toe to toe w/ Wonder Woman and held his own. He has a much more vast operation than Lex or Bruce Wayne. He is Batman's intellectual equal. I mean sometimes, he's even in the position that you start to root for him. Though he is so evil, he is also so respectable. The same can be said about Lex or Darkseid, but I think it applies to Ra's a little bit more. He has also (wheter he wants to admit it or not) acted as a father figure at times to Bruce. There is obviously a deep respect between the two, which makes the relationship all the more interesting. Much moreso, I think, than that of say Superman and Lex/Darkseid hate/hate relationships.
Just my thoughts.

Half of the villans listed are Batman villans.:( How about Mongul or Krona or my favorite Mordru! Mordru terrifed the entire Legion.

And how about Mr. Mind who despite being only a worm managed to be one of the most dangerous opponents the original Captain Marvel ever had. Or Validus the only villan no hero ever defeated.
Read Death in the Family and you will find out.
