i know marvel legends is all the rage and what not, but i realy dont care for that line. im more into the sculpture then an action figure having 40+ articulation points which i think is unnecessary. but to each his/her own. anywho this thread is for fans of dc direct toys, etc.

im thinking about getting some of the action figures of teen titans

heres a few pics.

I'm more of a fan of the DC Direct statues. I'm waiting for the Rude/Matthews Batman: Black and White, some of the Women of DC mini-busts and the Superman Forever designed by Alex Ross.

I have Deathstroke and had the Superboy. Both are very cool. I just decided I really didn't need Superboy after all so I traded him a month or so ago.

Honestly DCD usually does a great job with the sculpts but, as always, it'd be nice for a lil more added articulation. Just a few cut joints would be great. But overall I'm into DCD because they have Batman and his allies/rogues. If he were Marvel I'd probably only have 5 DCDs instead of 30+.

They haven't specified and I can't even get an estimate from my local store. I'm hoping there's at least 2,000 (preferably 2,500). Any less and I usually have to look to independent dealers (who sometimes sell above value :()

I only have a very limited interest in DC Direct. Too much money for too little action figure if you ask me.

Hopefully, Mattel's DC Superheroes line will obsolete DC Direct in both price and fun.

They do, but I must fully complain about Ross Flash. He was the only Ross Justice figure I needed (since I'm planning on getting everyone of them and make a "Justice League" shelf and a "Legion of Doom" shelf) and I just got him this Saturday (for $10 at Spencers ). Anyway, I really dislike the ose of his feet. It just doesn't make sense for his feet to be tilted in order to pose him running.

Now, we all know Flash runs, its his friggin' claim to fame. We all know that. But it just doesn't match up with the others. Supes, Bats, Aquaman and Black Canary are all standing regular, and make a group pose pretty nicely. Wonder Woman, Plastic Man and Hal Jordan in the 3rdwave are all standing regularly, as are Hawkman, Capt. Marvel and Zatanna in the 4th wave. All I'm saying is it would've been better if he was in a standing pose like the others. The running pose LOOKS fine, I'm not saying its stupid or lookswrong BUT all the others that have released or are going to be released are standing in statuesque poses and he's not. BUT, I'll be doing a lil modification so I can be happy.

Other than that I'm happy.

Ya the price is an issue for some, I can understand...but I usually only buy the ones of really great quality.

Mattel's DC Superheroes line wont do sh^t. The figures are awful and they cant even get licenses to produce figs outside Batman/Supes.

I love DCD for one reason: They are (or can be) the BEST looking action figures out there. I buy most of my figures for the "look" factor, and DCD can make a figure with standard articulation and pull it off.

I dunno, man... I've seen non-promo photos of Superman and he looks INCREDIBLE. In my opinion he looks better than any DCD rendition of him I've seen yet, and that's a pretty good sign.

The first series was nothing more than something to introduce the line with while using old figures redeco'd for a new release.

DCD lost some of my loyalty with the whole 7 inch scale thing. But they keep me coming with the obscure characters and stroty specific lines.

Now if they just due a KNightfall 2 with Broken Batman, Harvey Bullock, Zsasz, Azreal as Azreal and Lady Shiva and a Rogues Gallery 2 wave with Clayface, Zsasz, Firefly, Maxie Zues and The Ventiloquist then I would be really happy.

I just really want a Zsasz, Firefly and Bullock.

Okay so Superman/Batman wave 3 (or 4?) IS Public Enemies 2. That's ight 5 more McGuiness style figs. Hawkman (Who looks great) President Luthor, Steel 4 (A chick) Earth 2 Superman and Nightwing.

Now I didn't read it but I don't know if all these characters were in there. But DCD just wants to get more figs out there in this style......I like his style so I may actually jump back and get the others. I dunno yet.

Oh and All Star Batman Series 1. So more Jim Lee DCD goodness.

Batman
Robin
Joker
Batgirl
Black Canary

So the Jim Lee Robin may be cool, but the costume is different and he is younger so it may not fit in.......Black Canary looks a bit different too, but she'll be my core Black Canary as the IC one suckes. Batman, pretty standard. I don't even know what All Star Joker looks like. And Batgirl is yet to bee seen in the series, but there is a frank miller drawing of her. Kinda lame.

thanks for the credit, but i actually found the pics on the dc direct forums. i can't take a picture for crap either.

in the public enemies storyline, hawkman used that glove on his hand to try and take down superman. it's actually the only time i've seen him use it, but it's supposed to bring the pain (something like the equivalent of hitting somebody with the earth).

I want an old one too. DCD has a Booster Gold Sculpted they just don't have a spot for him in any line yet.

They should hit thier own 2 packs out.

GL Hal and Green Arrow.

Booster Gold and the old Blue Beetle fig

A New Barbara Gordon and Huntress

Hush Gordon and a New Harbey Bullock

Superman and Superboy (Connor)

Something like that...A Mix of old figs we missed, and old figs with new touches.....And all new figs. Something like that would rule. Plus we could all ge tthe BB fig.

FEAR THE BAT
04-13-2006, 01:07 AM
That would rule. I could see Booster Gold being released in the Infinite Crisis line, maybe wave 2 or 3.

Hell, if they made the Kord Beetle in the ReActivated line with a slight paint job difference that'd be sweet, but that 2 pack idea is very cool. I'd get 3 of those atleast

Roughneck
04-13-2006, 01:10 AM
Yeah....ReActivated. That line has potential....But they better be a little chaeaper.

I hope they make a line for 52. Then we could get a New Costumed Booster. A New Steel, A 6 inch Black Adam, Renee Montoya. I haven't even read it yet but I al pumped for this book. And I'm gonna want figs.

vog
04-13-2006, 01:11 AM

He's definitely up there.....I've yet to see him go for under $90 on eBay. Of course, I don't really check for it that often considering I refuse to pay that much for him. Ted Kord is similar but not quite that high. DC Direct has gotta know that collectors are paying big bucks for these things and that they should do well if re-released.

When ToyBiz released those "Best of ML" cases, it didn't affect value on any of those figures, did it? At least, as far as I can tell, all of the figures that were in those cases are still selling for as much now as they were before they were re-released.

I woder how many waves they are gonna go with this. By the time Wave 5 hits we may only be at issue 7 or 8.

But who is left for the other waves.....Thy pretty much got the Core JLAsers

vog
04-13-2006, 11:43 PM
I'm glad we're getting the monkey, but a surgery table would be cool as well. I guess DC Direct wouldn't be willing to include it because it would have to be so large to accomodate a 7" figure? They usually seem to be pretty skimpy on the accessories side.

Anyways, since we're going to be getting a McGuinness style Nightwing and President Luthor, here's a couple of pictures of what they'll likely look like.

Nightwing
http://www.graphiccollectibles.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=1_305_690&products_id=6284&osCsid=d7d9701afe2516b36ad9a37a3e11b86e

Since we're already getting a Luthor in Justice wave 5, I would have preferred to be getting a McGuinness style Armored Luthor, but I suppose they figure we'll already be getting a COIE armor Luthor and a Mattel version as well. Here's what we couldv'e had though (I personally prefer this one over both of the versions we'll be getting this year).

vog
04-14-2006, 12:28 AM
An unused version I guess. If it were a mail-away exclusive, I'd bet it would skyrocket in price. Can you imagine a headsculpt of Luthor looking that crazy? It'd be so awesome.

Here's the link where you can check out the others they're evidently not using:
http://www.graphiccollectibles.com/catalog/default.php?cPath=1_305_690&osCsid=d7d9701afe2516b36ad9a37a3e11b86e

I do think that they mislabeled the Batgirl and Sugergirl ones though. They look exactly like the Superwoman and Batwoman characters from the "With a Vengance" storyarc currently going on in Superman/Batman (which McGuinness is also drawing). Maybe they're planning on doing a set of figures from that storyarc somewhere down the road? I guess it depends on how well wave 2 of Public Enemies sells. I'm all for more McGuinness figs.

Depends on where you buy 'em. I got my first MiniMates from Wal-Mart for $4per two-pack.

I love the MiniMates simply because I like the style they're made in, I like the character selection, and I like the easy customization options.

Here's hoping the official Deathstroke looks better than my custom for their sake, because I'll be smug and say that my custom rocks.

FEAR THE BAT

Yeah. I don't like that DC Direct is handling these things, because it means that they'll be WAY overpriced.

Which is a shame, as I really like Minimates. I have a few of the DC characters released under the C3 construction set, and would love to add these ones to the list, but I'd rather not pay typical DCD prices for them.

I think this is probably the way forward for DC. Mattel are now making far better generic, articulated DC characters than DCD (DCSH Superman blows MA Superman away), so it remains for DCD to keep producing interesting lines based on old stories, current events in the DCU, and obscure characters.

Take a DCD Batman in your hand and Try to picture Spider-man done in this style. Try to picture Wolverine done in this style.

That's all opinion-based, really. I think Toy Biz has done better than DC Direct as far as translating their superheroes into good action figures. DCD's just too darn limited by it's pricing and its decision to make all their figures as of late artist-specific.

FEAR THE BAT
05-08-2006, 11:30 PM
I do feel that the artist specific lines make it kinda hard for figures to mesh with each other. Especially when the scale is outta whack (likewith the Knightfall Catwoman being too tall to fit with other lines such as the Hush figures). And some artist-specific lines hit it right while others fall flat (Michael Turner figs for instance).

But all in all I still like most of what DCD puts out, but mostly because of the characters and not so much the figure.

Roughneck

It retails for $40, but varies depending on the retailer (some of them get you on the back end with S/H or just charge higher prices straight up). I tend to look to verifiable comic shops and known websites, but I suppose eBay is an option too. It's been out for over a year, so pickings may be slim. Here are a couple of links I ran across.
